The final whistle doesn’t have to be the end of it.
A room beside the ground can be handy at five o’clock and less useful at nine. We look at the journey, the neighbourhood and the evening, as well as the bed.
For most supporters, the Earl's Court/West Brompton side of the ground is the best compromise. It is roughly a 15-20 minute walk depending on the hotel, has strong Underground/Overground links and gives visiting supporters access to the pub area Chelsea itself points them towards. Stay at Stamford Bridge only when being on the stadium site matters more than price and current refurbishment risk. Chelsea/King's Road is stronger for a more upmarket evening but normally costs more.
The strongest all-round choice for a typical Stamford Bridge overnight: close enough to walk, beside useful West Brompton transport, in the Earl's Court orbit for food and pubs, and backed by stronger current review evidence than the stadium hotel. Recent refurbishment has materially improved the rooms.
Approximately a 15-20 minute practical walk to Stamford Bridge via the West Brompton side.
West Brompton station is only a few minutes away, giving District line and Mildmay/Overground options.
The match journey
Straightforward football-trip location on the West Brompton side. Chelsea describes West Brompton as approximately a 15-minute walk from Stamford Bridge; the hotel is a few minutes from the station.
The trade-off
Rates are highly date-sensitive; the sample ranged from £114 to £220 midweek and £134 to £228 on sampled weekend nights.

Stamford Bridge Hotel London
Stamford Bridge / Fulham Broadway
The undisputed closest practical stay because it is inside the Stamford Bridge complex. That convenience is real, especially after an evening kick-off, but this is not the current overall recommendation: repeated 2026 reviews describe major refurbishment disruption, dated or poorly maintained rooms in parts of the property, construction noise and matchday access friction.
Located within the Chelsea FC stadium complex; there is effectively no post-match journey back to the hotel.
Fulham Broadway is around five minutes away for onward transport.
The match journey
Inside the Stamford Bridge grounds. The closest realistic hotel choice by a wide margin.
The trade-off
The property was undergoing a significant refurbishment programme during 2026.

NOX Chelsea
Earl's Court / West Brompton
The best fit when the evening matters as much as the match. It puts you in the Earl's Court/West Brompton area Chelsea explicitly identifies for visiting-supporter pubs, stays walkable to Stamford Bridge and was comfortably the cheapest primary hotel in the sampled dates.
Around five minutes' walk from both Earl's Court and West Brompton stations.
Earl's Court is specifically identified by Chelsea as the nearest pub area welcoming visiting supporters.
The match journey
Booking.com describes Chelsea Football Club as a 20-minute walk away. The route also leaves you well placed for West Brompton and Earl's Court after the match.
The trade-off
It does not offer the full bar/restaurant/service package of the ibis or Stamford Bridge Hotel.

YOUR GROUND / YOUR STAY
Where’s the football? We’ll help with the overnight bit.
Choose the club whose ground you’re visiting. Compare the published hotel choices, then select the match to take its date into the booking partner.
Every club has a route into its guide. Published hotel depth varies; we’ll say when a shortlist is still being developed.
THREE WAYS TO MAKE A NIGHT OF IT
What matters after the match?
The same hotel won’t suit every trip. Decide what you want from the overnight stay, then weigh the compromises.
01 / THE WALK BACK
Keep the ground within reach.
A straightforward walk back can be welcome after an evening kick-off. Check the actual route, and what’s nearby once the crowds have gone.
02 / THE EVENING
Stay where the night has options.
If you want a meal and a couple of pubs after the match, a proper centre can be worth the extra journey to the turnstiles.
03 / THE RAIL ARRIVAL
Make the luggage leg easy.
A station-side base can save carrying bags across town. The useful question is how the hotel, station and ground work together.
THE SHORTLIST HAS TO EARN ITS PLACE
More gets considered than makes the page.
There’s usually a tempting option: the cheapest room, the hotel nearest the stadium, the one with the smartest photographs. None tells the whole story.
Our research considers a wider field. Some places fall away because of awkward connections, an isolated location, price or recurring concerns in reviews. The published choices come with reasons to stay and compromises worth knowing.
Location, reputation, price context and practical travel.

A COMMERCIAL LINK STILL NEEDS AN EDITORIAL REASON
The useful bit comes before the booking button.
Hotel links can earn us commission. That is how this part of the website is supported, and we explain it openly. The recommendation still needs to make sense for a football trip: where you’ll be, how you’ll get around and what you give up by choosing it.
