The final whistle doesn’t have to be the end of it.
A room beside the ground can be handy at five o’clock and less useful at nine. We look at the journey, the neighbourhood and the evening, as well as the bed.
Choose Horfield if walking to the turnstiles matters more than the evening. Choose the northern city-centre/Cabot Circus side for the best balance of hotel quality, price and a relatively direct run north to the stadium. Choose the Old City/Harbourside if the post-match evening is the priority: it has the strongest concentration of pubs, bars and restaurants, but you should plan on public transport or a taxi rather than walking back from the ground.
Newfoundland Street / Cabot Circus, northern edge of Bristol city centre
The best balance for a Bristol Rovers overnight trip. Moxy is far enough into town to give you a proper choice of food, pubs and a city evening, but it sits on the northern side of the centre rather than down on the Harbourside, which makes the trip to and from Horfield less awkward.
Northern city-centre position gives a better stadium/evening compromise than the Harbourside.
Cabot Circus, Stokes Croft and central Bristol food/drink options are accessible without basing yourself in Horfield.
The match journey
Approximately 1.8 miles straight-line from the Memorial Stadium using verified property/stadium coordinates; this is not a routed walking distance. Use the frequent northbound bus network or a taxi for matchday rather than treating it as a stadium walk.
The trade-off
Not realistically a walk-to-the-turnstiles choice for most supporters; bus or taxi is the sensible matchday plan.

A shorter stadium journeyPut getting back first
The Wellington
Horfield / Gloucester Road
The clear choice if the main requirement is to stay genuinely close to the Memorial Stadium. Booking.com describes it as a five-minute walk from the ground, and its current accommodation scores are solid. It is a small pub-with-rooms rather than a full city hotel, which is part of the appeal on a football trip: you can check in, have a drink and walk to the match. The compromise is the evening.
On-site pub and restaurant make it practical for a one-night football stay.
Only ten ensuite rooms, giving it a smaller local feel than the city-centre chains.
The match journey
Booking.com explicitly describes the property as a five-minute walk from the Memorial Stadium. The coordinate-to-coordinate straight-line distance is about 0.2 miles.
The trade-off
Small room inventory means availability can tighten quickly around busy dates.

For the pubs & eveningMake a night of it
The Bristol Hotel
Harbourside / Old City
The strongest choice when the match is only part of the overnight trip. The hotel sits on the Harbourside beside the Old City, with King Street, Welsh Back, waterfront bars and a large restaurant choice close by. Its location scores are excellent and current review evidence is generally strong.
Immediate access to Harbourside, Old City, King Street and Welsh Back food/drink.
Large, established full-service hotel with 24-hour reception and on-site bar/restaurant.
The match journey
Approximately 2.6 miles straight-line from the Memorial Stadium using verified coordinates; routed distance will be longer. It is a city-evening choice, not a stadium-area hotel. Use public transport or taxi.
The trade-off
Much farther from the Memorial Stadium than The Wellington or Moxy; use bus/taxi rather than planning to walk.

YOUR GROUND / YOUR STAY
Where’s the football? We’ll help with the overnight bit.
Choose the club whose ground you’re visiting. Compare the published hotel choices, then select the match to take its date into the booking partner.
Every club has a route into its guide. Published hotel depth varies; we’ll say when a shortlist is still being developed.
THREE WAYS TO MAKE A NIGHT OF IT
What matters after the match?
The same hotel won’t suit every trip. Decide what you want from the overnight stay, then weigh the compromises.
01 / THE WALK BACK
Keep the ground within reach.
A straightforward walk back can be welcome after an evening kick-off. Check the actual route, and what’s nearby once the crowds have gone.
02 / THE EVENING
Stay where the night has options.
If you want a meal and a couple of pubs after the match, a proper centre can be worth the extra journey to the turnstiles.
03 / THE RAIL ARRIVAL
Make the luggage leg easy.
A station-side base can save carrying bags across town. The useful question is how the hotel, station and ground work together.
THE SHORTLIST HAS TO EARN ITS PLACE
More gets considered than makes the page.
There’s usually a tempting option: the cheapest room, the hotel nearest the stadium, the one with the smartest photographs. None tells the whole story.
Our research considers a wider field. Some places fall away because of awkward connections, an isolated location, price or recurring concerns in reviews. The published choices come with reasons to stay and compromises worth knowing.
Location, reputation, price context and practical travel.

A COMMERCIAL LINK STILL NEEDS AN EDITORIAL REASON
The useful bit comes before the booking button.
Hotel links can earn us commission. That is how this part of the website is supported, and we explain it openly. The recommendation still needs to make sense for a football trip: where you’ll be, how you’ll get around and what you give up by choosing it.
