The final whistle doesn’t have to be the end of it.
A room beside the ground can be handy at five o’clock and less useful at nine. We look at the journey, the neighbourhood and the evening, as well as the bed.
For the best football-trip balance, base yourself by Brighton Station or just downhill into North Laine. Falmer is about 10 minutes by train from Brighton, and for 2026/27 Premier League home matches the club includes bus and train travel within its travel zone for match-ticket holders during the stated pre/post-match window. A station hotel therefore removes much of the usual stadium-transfer friction without leaving you stranded on the edge of the city after the match.
Our best all-round base for an Amex away day. Leonardo Hotel Brighton is beside Brighton Station for direct Falmer trains, while North Laine’s pubs and food are downhill on foot. It prioritises matchday convenience over seafront atmosphere; recent room reviews are mixed.
Beside Brighton railway station, with only a short walk between the hotel entrance and station concourse.
Direct trains from Brighton to Falmer generally take around 6–10 minutes; Falmer station is by the stadium.
The match journey
For the Amex, use the neighbouring Brighton station for a direct train to Falmer (generally around 6–10 minutes on board), then follow stadium signs. The previously saved 3.2-mile straight-line estimate was not independently recalculated; do not treat it as walking distance.
The trade-off
The station-side New England Quarter is a practical base rather than a seafront stay; the beach and central Lanes are further away on foot.

A shorter stadium journeyPut getting back first
The Downs Hotel
Woodingdean
The Downs Hotel is a practical choice if you want to stay outside central Brighton, have the car nearby and eat or drink in the pub downstairs. It has rooms in Woodingdean, on-site parking and a bus stop served by route 22 towards the city centre. For the football, the club confirms a wide, step-free shared path from the Bexhill Road end of Woodingdean towards Falmer.
A working pub with guest rooms in Woodingdean, closer to the Falmer area than Brighton seafront accommodation.
On-site parking is confirmed by the hotel and Booking.com; guests should confirm arrangements if leaving a vehicle during the match.
The match journey
Booking.com’s indexed listing places the hotel about 2 miles from the Amex, a location estimate rather than a measured walking route. Brighton & Hove Albion describes a wide, flat, step-free shared path between the Bexhill Road car park in Woodingdean and a point opposite Falmer Farm Shop near the stadium.
The trade-off
Not the nearest room to the stadium: Ruby Pub & Hotel advertises a shorter walk, although its indexed Booking.com score is lower.

For the pubs & eveningMake a night of it
Leonardo Royal Hotel Brighton Waterfront
The Lanes / seafront
The best of the three if the post-match evening is part of the trip rather than an afterthought. The hotel sits on the seafront with The Lanes immediately behind it, so restaurants, pubs and bars are available without another taxi or bus. It also has a stronger leisure-hotel feel than the station pick.
Direct seafront position with The Lanes immediately behind the hotel.
Strong recent reputation: Booking.com 8.5/10 from more than 10,000 reviews in the sampled results and strong 2026 Tripadvisor feedback.
The match journey
Approximate straight-line distance. The practical football route is the roughly 15-minute walk to Brighton Station followed by the train to Falmer.
The trade-off
Roughly a 15-minute walk uphill to Brighton Station before the train to Falmer.

YOUR GROUND / YOUR STAY
Where’s the football? We’ll help with the overnight bit.
Choose the club whose ground you’re visiting. Compare the published hotel choices, then select the match to take its date into the booking partner.
Every club has a route into its guide. Published hotel depth varies; we’ll say when a shortlist is still being developed.
THREE WAYS TO MAKE A NIGHT OF IT
What matters after the match?
The same hotel won’t suit every trip. Decide what you want from the overnight stay, then weigh the compromises.
01 / THE WALK BACK
Keep the ground within reach.
A straightforward walk back can be welcome after an evening kick-off. Check the actual route, and what’s nearby once the crowds have gone.
02 / THE EVENING
Stay where the night has options.
If you want a meal and a couple of pubs after the match, a proper centre can be worth the extra journey to the turnstiles.
03 / THE RAIL ARRIVAL
Make the luggage leg easy.
A station-side base can save carrying bags across town. The useful question is how the hotel, station and ground work together.
THE SHORTLIST HAS TO EARN ITS PLACE
More gets considered than makes the page.
There’s usually a tempting option: the cheapest room, the hotel nearest the stadium, the one with the smartest photographs. None tells the whole story.
Our research considers a wider field. Some places fall away because of awkward connections, an isolated location, price or recurring concerns in reviews. The published choices come with reasons to stay and compromises worth knowing.

A COMMERCIAL LINK STILL NEEDS AN EDITORIAL REASON
The useful bit comes before the booking button.
Hotel links can earn us commission. That is how this part of the website is supported, and we explain it openly. The recommendation still needs to make sense for a football trip: where you’ll be, how you’ll get around and what you give up by choosing it.
