Parking
Driving & road restrictions
For ordinary supporters, set your sat-nav for Kingsway multi-storey car park in Newport city centre rather than the stadium. Its approach avoids searching the residential roads around Rodney Parade, and you can reach the ground on foot across the River Usk.
If you are going to a pre-arranged stadium space or the away coach facility, the club directs drivers from the north and east off the M4 at junction 24 towards the B4237 and Corporation Road. From the west, its published route uses junction 26 towards the city. Do not assume you can drive onto Grafton Road on a busy matchday: temporary closures have been used for major fixtures, and any new restrictions must be checked closer to kick-off.
- Stadium postcode
- NP19 0UU for Rodney Parade; away turnstile NP19 0BG on Corporation Road
- From north/east
- M4 J24 and B4237 to Corporation Road in club travel guide
- From west
- M4 J26, A4051 towards city then B4591/Chepstow Road as in club guide
- Ground vehicle access
- No general stadium matchday parking; pre-arranged spaces only
- Historical special-event closure
- Grafton Road and Rodney Road were closed under fixture-specific controls for Manchester United FA Cup game in January 2024; not verified for normal matches
Parking & park-and-ride
You do not normally need to book parking for Rodney Parade, provided you use a public city-centre car park and arrive in good time. Free street parking is possible in principle, but there is no named nearby stretch we can safely recommend for a whole match. Residential permits, waiting limits and restrictions around Corporation Road make searching close to kick-off a poor plan.
**Kingsway multi-storey** is the simplest first choice. It is open from 6am until midnight, uses number-plate recognition and is recommended by Newport County. Walk across the Millennium footbridge over the River Usk, then continue to the away entrance at Gate 6 on Corporation Road. Allow extra time beyond the short walk to the stadium’s main side.
**Friars Walk** is a straightforward alternative if Kingsway is full. Its operator publishes £5.10 for three to four hours or £6.70 for four to ten hours, with a 2.1-metre height restriction. **Maindee car park**, on Chepstow Road, is another council-listed public option on the ground’s side of the river, but check its current tariff before relying on a quoted price.
For free parking, the council identifies bays at Hollybush Avenue in Malpas, but they are too far from Rodney Parade to recommend as a simple walk. Reports of parking around Rugby Road do not establish which bays are legally unrestricted. Signed two-hour bays on parts of Hereford Street and Exeter Street are not suitable for a full afternoon match.
Aim to park around 60–90 minutes before kick-off and allow at least four hours for your total visit, including both walks, football and queues. Weekend and evening restrictions differ, so read signs wherever you park. Do not leave your car in ASDA, Tesco or other customer parking for football without express permission.
- Parking verdict
- Book a public space only if you want additional certainty; normal first choice is Kingsway or Friars Walk pay-and-display. No legally verified, nearby full-match free street recommendation.
- Free option — Hollybush Avenue, Malpas
- Council identifies 20 free off-street bays at Hollybush Avenue (Unionist Club), but this is not a practical walking option for most visiting supporters
- Free option — Rugby Road
- Unverified: individual November 2024 fan says they have parked in residential roads around Rugby Road; permission, street section and current controls not established
- Legal restrictions — Corporation Road
- Newport 2026 enacted notice creates no-waiting-at-any-time controls on lengths of Corporation Road, EV-only bays and loading restrictions on some sections; no free street section established
- Legal restrictions — Hereford Street
- East side between Chepstow Road and Exeter Street: Mon-Sat 8am–8pm, HE permit holder or maximum 2 hours with no return within 2 hours under April 2026 variation
- Legal restrictions — Exeter Street
- South side near Hereford Street: Mon-Sat 8am–8pm, DA resident permit or maximum 2 hours, no return within 2 hours under April 2026 variation
- Legal restrictions — wider neighbourhood
- Resident permit schemes exist and are enforced; no comprehensive bay-by-bay map was accessible for an approved free parking claim
- Matchday availability — side streets
- Newport County says side streets are used but local restrictions apply; no recent verified occupancy or arrival-time data supports a parking guarantee
- Matchday availability — Kingsway and Friars Walk
- November 2024 fan reports recommend both, including one saying Kingsway worked without issues; anecdotal only, not proof of spaces for a particular fixture
- Walk — city centre car parks
- Cross Millennium footbridge to stadium side of River Usk, then continue around to Gate 6 on Corporation Road; exact measured walk from each car park to Gate 6 unverified
- Walk — Maindee car park
- Public council car park at Chepstow Road NP19 8XA on same side of River Usk as stadium; exact walk to Gate 6 unmeasured
- Arrive by — Kingsway/Friars Walk
- Practical editorial allowance: aim to park 60–90 minutes before kick-off and allow walking and ticket-entry time; not a guaranteed space forecast
- Paid fallback — Kingsway
- Kingsway Centre multi-storey, open daily 06:00–00:00, ANPR pay-at-terminal; current live tariff should be checked before use
- Paid fallback — Friars Walk
- Operator: 350 covered spaces; £5.10 for >3–4 hours and £6.70 for >4–10 hours; daytime/evening published tariff applies Mon-Sun 06:00–00:00; 2.1m height limit
- Paid fallback — Maindee
- Chepstow Road NP19 8XA listed by council as public off-street car park. Unsigned 2026 variation document proposes up to 5 hours £2.80 and 5–12 hours £3.50; no confirmed operative price
- Paid fallback — Riverfront / Emlyn Street
- Both are listed council car parks with postcodes NP20 1HG and NP20 1ES respectively; live tariff/closure time needs checking
- Booking recommendation
- Advance booking not generally required at council public car parks; reserved/accessible stadium spaces must be arranged beforehand
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Asda Pillgwenlly
- ASDA Lower Dock Street NP20 2BH has a store car park, but no inspected source authorises match parking or establishes a four-hour stay. Do not recommend.
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Tesco Chepstow Road
- Tesco Esso Express NP19 9EZ states supermarket parking time limits depend on the site and signs; no verified match permission or site-specific full-visit maximum stay
- Total dwell time
- Allow at least four hours for ordinary match: roughly 60 minutes early arrival, 105–115 minutes match/half-time/stoppages, two walks and time to exit. Cup extra time or longer pre-match plans need more.
- After the match
- Cross River Usk to return to Kingsway or Friars Walk; departures may coincide with pedestrian flows. No quantified exit delay or guaranteed quick route.
- Park-and-ride
- No verified match-specific park-and-ride service found; ordinary city-centre car parks and walking are supported alternative

Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Newport (South Wales) railway station for Rodney Parade. Trains serve the city from Cardiff, Bristol, London and the Midlands, and the ground is around 10–15 minutes away on foot. Allow longer to reach the away entrance on Corporation Road, rather than stopping at the stadium’s main gate.
Leave through the Queensway entrance, turn left and follow Queensway towards the roundabout. Use the pedestrian subway towards Clarence Place, cross the River Usk and continue round to Gate 6. Newport station has lifts and step-free routes to its platforms, but check lift availability if you need assistance.
- Primary railway station
- Newport (South Wales), station code NWP; Queensway, NP20 4AX
- Station to stadium walk
- Around 10–15 minutes to stadium vicinity; extra time required for Corporation Road Gate 6
- Rail services
- Connections documented from London Paddington, Bristol Temple Meads and Birmingham New Street; confirm actual travel date and connections
- Step-free station classification
- National Rail step-free Category B1 and lifts; check operational lift status before travelling
Station to ground & away entrance
Head for Gate 6 on Corporation Road, not Rodney Parade’s main entrance on Grafton Road. Away supporters usually sit in the covered Bisley Stand, with the uncovered end used when needed. Check your ticket for the stand allocated to your fixture.
From the city-centre car parks, cross the Millennium footbridge over the River Usk towards Rodney Road, then follow the matchday approach around to Corporation Road. If arriving by car from the M4, the club’s eastern approach follows the B4237 and turns into Corporation Road; the away entrance is on the left after the former ATS garage location. Allow time to locate the smaller entrance.

Coaches
Away coaches
If your supporters’ club runs a coach, ask the organiser to confirm parking at Newport Transport’s depot on Corporation Road before travelling. The stadium operator advertises a coach and minibus parking facility at 160 Corporation Road, NP19 0WF, close to the away entrance. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served booking basis.
Drivers or organisers can contact Newport Transport on 01633 670563 or sales@newporttransport.co.uk. The published facility prices are not a guarantee of availability for your fixture. Confirm the actual drop-off, parking, return meeting point and departure arrangements with your coach organiser; a general public coach pick-up point has not been verified.

Buses
Buses & local travel
Walking from Newport station or Friars Walk is usually simpler than waiting for a bus, but local services can shorten the journey. Newport Bus routes 42 and 43 serve Clarence Place near Rodney Parade, with boarding in the city centre at Friars Walk.
For evening and Sunday journeys, check the 9A and 9C instead. Use Newport Bus’s journey planner for the actual fixture date and return service, because weekday and weekend patterns differ. Any free match-ticket bus promotion is occasional, not something to assume for every Newport County game.
- Walk versus bus
- Newport city centre bus station is approximately a ten-minute stadium walk in club guidance
- Saturday/daytime buses
- Newport Bus 42/43 serve Clarence Place near Rodney Parade; check timetable and stop
- Evening and Sunday buses
- 9A/9C are designated evening/Sunday routes; verify service on fixture date
- Accessible buses
- Club states Newport Buses are accessible; confirm bus-stop and vehicle suitability for particular journey
- Free bus travel
- Occasional partner match-ticket offers only, not blanket free travel
Accessibility
Accessible journeys
Arrange accessible parking through your own club before travelling. Newport County allocates five visiting-supporter spaces at Maindee Primary School car park; these are not a public drive-up option. For other access arrangements or a one-off request, contact the club’s supporter liaison team ahead of the match.
Newport railway station has step-free routes and lifts, but check for any lift faults on the day. The club recommends allowing about 30 minutes for its tested accessible pedestrian route to the away end, rather than relying on the shorter general stadium walk. Accessible toilets are in the Bisley Stand, and visiting wheelchair positions are provided separately from ordinary away seating.
- Accessible away parking
- Five spaces at Maindee Primary School for visiting supporters; contact visiting club to arrange
- General accessible parking applications
- Limited ground/school spaces; contact office@newport-county.co.uk for one-off requests at least 48 hours before kick-off
- Accessible away walking route
- Club-tested accessible route roughly one mile/30 minutes to away end; different from ordinary pedestrian shortcut
- Rail station access
- Newport B1 step-free category, platforms accessible; lifts present. Actual lift operation should be checked on date
- Accessible toilets
- Bisley Stand RADAR-key accessible toilets; ask steward if a key is needed
- Away wheelchair spaces
- Four designated wheelchair-dependent away positions in South Stand according to the club’s accessibility details; verify current fixture placement
- Wheelchair viewing caution
- Club reports restricted corner sightline affecting some pitch-level terrace positions; confirm individual seat view
- Assistance contact
- office@newport-county.co.uk or the visiting club ticket/accessibility office
After the match
After the match
If you parked at Kingsway or Friars Walk, return across the Millennium footbridge and pay attention to the pedestrian route back towards the car parks. You can leave the stadium area without having to recover a car from a narrow residential road, but traffic and pedestrian delays still depend on the crowd.
For rail travel, head back towards Newport station through Clarence Place and the Queensway approach. Leave a sensible margin before a booked train, especially after an evening game. Major matches have previously involved closures on Rodney Road and Grafton Road, but those historic arrangements should not be treated as permanent football restrictions.
- Best car return
- Kingsway/Friars Walk: return across Millennium River Usk footbridge to city centre; avoids retrieving car beside stadium
- Rail return
- Newport station via Clarence Place pedestrian routes and Queensway; check train times and last service
- Road closure caveat
- Grafton Road and Rodney Road had temporary closures for January 2024 Manchester United tie; not evidenced as recurring for all fixtures
- Evening car park closure
- Kingsway operates to midnight; allow for return and exit; Friars operator published tariff to midnight, later opening not independently verified
Where to stay
Stay in Newport city centre, near the railway station, Friars Walk or the river, if you are making a weekend of the match. You can walk to Rodney Parade across the River Usk and return to the same area for trains, food and an evening out, without needing a taxi to the ground.
There is little football-travel advantage in booking beside the eastern stadium approaches around Corporation Road. Choose the station side if an early train home matters. For a one-day afternoon visit, Newport is compact enough that you may not need a hotel at all; compare live prices and travel times before booking.
- Recommended stay area
- Newport city centre: railway station/Friars Walk/river side provides walkable station and ground access
- Stadium-side trade-off
- Rodney Parade is across the river; staying by Corporation Road is unnecessary for most football visitors
- Rail-oriented stay
- Newport station/Queensway side for morning departure; match accessible on foot

Rodney Parade is unusually convenient for an away day: Newport station, the High Street and the city-centre food-and-drink cluster are roughly a 10–15 minute walk from the ground, with the route crossing the River Usk before visiting supporters enter via Gate 6 on Corporation Road. Train arrivals are best meeting around Cambrian Road, High Street or Newport Market, where there is far more choice than immediately outside the away turnstiles. The John Wallace Linton, Godfrey Morgan, Ye Olde Murenger, Le Pub and Windsor Castle all have recurring away-fan evidence, while the Excelsior remains a long-standing near-ground lead whose current opening arrangements still need checking. Newport Market is the strongest food stop: it sits naturally on the station-to-ground route and now has several independent traders, with Ceylon M8's koththu a particularly useful supporter-backed recommendation. Inside Rodney Parade the away section has its own bar and burger-van/concourse food. For an overnight stay, the station/Bridge Street/Upper Dock Street city-centre area is the practical base because both rail and the stadium remain walkable.

Food & quick bites
Where to grab a bite, have a proper meal or try the local matchday favourite.
Rodney Parade away-end concessions
The safe fallback when you do not want to gamble on queues elsewhere. Newport currently confirms an away-end bar and burger van, while recent visiting-club information adds hot dogs and pies to the reported matchday offer.
Newport Market Food Court
The strongest all-round food stop for an away day. It sits naturally on the station-to-ground route and lets a group split across burgers, pizza, Greek, hot chicken and seafood without committing to a single restaurant.
Ceylon M8
The standout specific food recommendation from the supporter pass. A recent Rodney Parade review explicitly says to eat at Newport Market and singles out Ceylon M8's koththu before the match.
Burger Boyz
A straightforward matchday choice inside Newport Market when you want something filling before the walk over the river. The menu is burger-led, with loaded fries and recognisable flagship choices rather than generic food-hall filler.
Fowl & Fury
Useful when the group wants fast, substantial food without sitting through a restaurant service. The heat scale runs from no-heat Country to Fury, so it works for cautious eaters as well as spice hunters.
Meat and Greek
A practical alternative to burgers and stadium concessions. Meat and Greek gives Newport Market a proper souvlaki option, easy to fit into the station-to-ground walk without sending supporters off-route.
The Rogue Welsh Cake Company
The best genuinely local snack in the shortlist. Rather than defaulting to a chain bakery, visiting supporters can pick up hot Welsh cakes made on a bakestone, including modern flavours and a Bara Brith version.
