BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into Rodney Parade

Head for Gate 6 on Corporation Road, not Rodney Parade’s main entrance on Grafton Road. Away supporters usually sit in the covered Bisley Stand, with the uncovered end used when needed. Check your ticket for the stand allocated to your fixture. From the city-centre car parks, cross the Millennium footbridge over the River Usk towards Rodney Road, then follow the matchday approach around to Corporation Road. If arriving by car from the M4, the club’s eastern approach follows the B4237 and turns into Corporation Road; the away entrance is on the left after the former ATS garage location. Allow time to locate the smaller entrance.

02 · Before the match

The John Wallace Linton

12-minute walk to the ground. Full Wetherspoon food menu; useful for breakfast or a sit-down pub meal before the walk to the ground. Away admission is repeatedly reported, but no current venue-level policy on visiting colours was found; high-profile fixtures can still change door policy.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay in Newport city centre, near the railway station, Friars Walk or the river, if you are making a weekend of the match. You can walk to Rodney Parade across the River Usk and return to the same area for trains, food and an evening out, without needing a taxi to the ground.

Monster pasty — Rodney Parade

Pub food

The John Wallace Linton

12 min walk

Good for train arrivals · groups

One of the most repeatedly recommended Newport pubs for visiting supporters and the easiest serious drinking option for rail arrivals. Its position by the station makes it a sensible meeting point before the short walk across town.

Expect busy city-centre pub · sports screens · train-arrival base

Before you go Away admission is repeatedly reported, but no current venue-level policy on visiting colours was found; high-profile fixtures can still change door policy.

Units 10-12, The Cambrian Centre, Cambrian Road, Newport, NP20 4AD

Pub food

The Godfrey Morgan

10 min walk

Good for supporters already on the ground side of the river · groups

The strongest near-ground pub recommendation. Visiting-club guides repeatedly send away supporters here, and it is far enough from the turnstiles to offer more space and food choice than the immediate stadium streets.

Expect large pub · near-ground option · sports-screen pub

Before you go Current guides warn that Newport pub colour and child policies vary by venue; no Godfrey Morgan-specific away-colours rule was published.

Food & drink
Full Wetherspoon food menu, making it one of the easiest places near the ground to combine a pint with a proper pre-match meal.
How it works
Wetherspoon pub; table ordering available

158 Chepstow Road, Newport, NP19 8EG

Pub food

Ye Olde Murenger House

10 min walk

Good for rail arrivals · traditional pub

A more characterful city-centre choice than a chain pub. Recent away guides continue to list the Murenger, and supporter discussion places it roughly ten minutes from the ground, though a spicy fixture may change how comfortable colours feel.

Expect historic pub · real ale · city centre

Before you go A 2024 supporter thread specifically cautioned that a 'spicy' fixture could change the feel; no current published colours policy was found.

Food & drink
Traditional pub food is reported by current listings; the stronger reason to choose it is the historic pub setting and real-ale reputation rather than a specialist matchday menu.
How it works
traditional city-centre pub

52-53 High Street, Newport, NP20 1GA

Pub food

Le Pub

12 min walk

Good for independent beer · small groups

A useful independent alternative to the big pub chains. Exeter's away guide explicitly lists Le Pub, and its current venue site confirms it remains active on High Street with long weekend opening.

Expect independent · live music · community owned

Before you go It is a live-music venue as well as a pub, so event days can alter the atmosphere and capacity; no football-colours policy is published.

Food & drink
Food is available, but this is primarily a bar/music venue; choose it for an independent pre-match drink rather than a guaranteed quick football-food service.
How it works
community-owned bar and live-music venue

14 High Street, Newport, NP20 1FW

Pub food

Windsor Castle

12 min walk

Good for train arrivals · pub meal

A practical city-centre pub that appears in very recent Grimsby guidance for Newport. It is less football-specific than the Godfrey Morgan but useful for supporters who want to eat before walking over to Rodney Parade.

Expect traditional pub · city centre · food available

Before you go Away-fan recommendation is current, but there is no published venue-specific rule on colours or fixture-by-fixture admission.

Food & drink
Current CAMRA information describes a dining area and extensive menu; useful when the group wants a sit-down pub meal rather than stadium food.
How it works
traditional pub with dining area

19 Upper Dock Street, Newport, NP20 1DH

Pub food

Riverside Sports Bar & Kitchen

Good for televised sport · food close to the ground

A credible near-ground lead rather than a proven away pub. CAMRA specifically describes it as a good pre-match venue for Rodney Parade and it has food and sports TV, but no current away-fan or colours policy was found.

Expect sports bar · near ground · river-side approach

Before you go Use only after checking fixture-day admission if travelling in colours; the evidence proves it is a pre-match venue, not that every away following is admitted.

Food & drink
CAMRA lists both lunchtime and evening meals; useful for supporters who want food and televised sport close to the ground.
How it works
sports bar and kitchen

Clarence Place, Newport, NP19 7AB

football-ground hot food

Rodney Parade away-end concessions

0 min walk

Good for supporters going straight through the turnstiles · last-minute food

The safe fallback when you do not want to gamble on queues elsewhere. Newport currently confirms an away-end bar and burger van, while recent visiting-club information adds hot dogs and pies to the reported matchday offer.

Expect football ground · quick bite · cashless

Before you go All purchases inside Rodney Parade are currently card only. Item availability and prices can change by fixture; older Monster-pasty prices are not current evidence.

Food & drink
Current club guidance confirms a burger van in the away area; recent visiting-club guidance also reports burgers, hot dogs and pies. Older menus mentioning Monster pasties and historic prices should not be treated as current.
How it works

Rodney Parade, Rodney Road, Newport, NP19 0UU

independent street-food hall

Newport Market Food Court

Good for groups with different tastes · proper pre-match meal

The strongest all-round food stop for an away day. It sits naturally on the station-to-ground route and lets a group split across burgers, pizza, Greek, hot chicken and seafood without committing to a single restaurant.

Expect independent food hall · city centre · mixed cuisines

Before you go Food-court trading is Wednesday to Sunday; Monday and Tuesday fixtures need a different plan because the main food court is closed.

Food & drink
Current traders include Burger Boyz, The Pizza Boyz, Meat and Greek, Fowl & Fury, Bangkok Kitchen and Rock & Scallop, with table ordering and takeaway available.
How it works
multi-vendor food court; walk-in seating and takeaway

High Street, Newport, NP20 1FX

Sri Lankan street food

Ceylon M8

Good for something more interesting than stadium food · proper hot meal

The standout specific food recommendation from the supporter pass. A recent Rodney Parade review explicitly says to eat at Newport Market and singles out Ceylon M8's koththu before the match.

Expect street food · market · fast casual

Before you go Open Wednesday to Sunday under current Market hours; availability still depends on the Market trading day and can be busy around lunchtime.

Food & drink
Signature koththu: chopped flatbread stir-fried with egg, vegetables and a choice of meat, seafood, cheese or vegetable fillings. Also fried rice, nasi goreng, devilled chicken and hot-butter squid.
How it works

burgers and loaded fries

Burger Boyz

Good for big appetite · quick hot meal

A straightforward matchday choice inside Newport Market when you want something filling before the walk over the river. The menu is burger-led, with loaded fries and recognisable flagship choices rather than generic food-hall filler.

Expect street food · substantial · market

Before you go Current opening is Wednesday to Sunday; the food court is not a solution for Monday or Tuesday fixtures.

Food & drink
The Chuck Norris and Angry Chuck are flagship burgers; loaded fries, sides and dips are also made for a quick, substantial pre-match meal.

Food Court F9, Newport Market, High Street, Newport, NP20 1FX

Nashville hot chicken

Fowl & Fury

Good for fried chicken · quick meal

Useful when the group wants fast, substantial food without sitting through a restaurant service. The heat scale runs from no-heat Country to Fury, so it works for cautious eaters as well as spice hunters.

Expect street food · spicy · market

Before you go Food-court opening is Wednesday to Sunday and lunchtime queues can build; allow time rather than relying on a last-minute order.

Food & drink
Nashville hot chicken with a six-level spice scale; The Sando is the best-known sandwich, with plant-based versions of the mains also offered.
How it works

Food Court F8, Newport Market, High Street, Newport, NP20 1FX

Greek Cypriot street food

Meat and Greek

Good for souvlaki · quick proper meal

A practical alternative to burgers and stadium concessions. Meat and Greek gives Newport Market a proper souvlaki option, easy to fit into the station-to-ground walk without sending supporters off-route.

Expect street food · Greek · market

Before you go Use only when the Market food court is trading; Monday and Tuesday fixtures need another food plan.

Food & drink
Greek Cypriot souvlaki built from the founders' family recipe; a useful hand-held or quick seated meal before the match.

Food Court F4, Newport Market, High Street, Newport, NP20 1FX

Welsh cakes

The Rogue Welsh Cake Company

Good for Welsh speciality · sweet snack

The best genuinely local snack in the shortlist. Rather than defaulting to a chain bakery, visiting supporters can pick up hot Welsh cakes made on a bakestone, including modern flavours and a Bara Brith version.

Expect local speciality · quick snack · market

Before you go Current Saturday hours finish at 17:00; it works best pre-match or immediately after a 3pm game rather than later in the evening.

Food & drink
Welsh cakes cooked on a traditional bakestone, including chocolate and salted-caramel versions plus a Bara Brith Welsh cake.
How it works
market stall; hot takeaway snack

WHERE TO STAY

Where should you stay?

Choose a base for the football and the rest of your visit.

Where to stay

Stay in Newport city centre, near the railway station, Friars Walk or the river, if you are making a weekend of the match. You can walk to Rodney Parade across the River Usk and return to the same area for trains, food and an evening out, without needing a taxi to the ground. There is little football-travel advantage in booking beside the eastern stadium approaches around Corporation Road. Choose the station side if an early train home matters. For a one-day afternoon visit, Newport is compact enough that you may not need a hotel at all; compare live prices and travel times before booking.
