Peterborough United

A goals-first city club built on Fletton clay and supporter graft: an old London Road home, a nickname older than the club, and a habit of swinging between promotion, peril and reinvention.

Identity & place

What this club is really about

The Posh nickname came from Fletton football, whose industrial side was also called the Brickies or Claydobbers. Modern supporters describe working-class, hardworking values beneath that grand-sounding name. They helped pay for London Road's development, while the club has found opportunities in recruiting hungry players from lower-league and non-league football, improving them and selling them on. Goals, attacking play and strong personalities remain familiar parts of Posh.

Why that identity still matters

Fans wanted the city keys, Upon This Rock wording and historical references retained in the new crest. A 2026 consultation also kept the London Road End as the home end, protecting generations of memories. Criticism of recent teams has often focused on whether their football looks sufficiently attacking to feel like Posh.
