Leonardo Hotel Swindon
Town centre / Fleming Way
The best balance for a Swindon Town overnight: close enough to walk to The County Ground, properly convenient for the station, stronger current review evidence than the nearest budget alternatives, and often priced like a good three-star despite being a full-service four-star.
- Tripadvisor's current County Ground proximity page lists it at about 0.4 miles from the stadium.
- Short walk to Swindon station and the town centre, so no taxi is normally needed for a rail-based trip.
Current Tripadvisor proximity data lists about 0.4 miles. Route-based platforms vary around 9-12 minutes / roughly 0.5-0.6 miles depending on entrance and route. Travelodge is similarly close, but Leonardo is the more practical MatchdayHotels pick because of the stronger room/reputation package and verified Booking.com coverage.
Old Town is the better district for an evening of independent pubs, bars and restaurants; getting there means an uphill walk or short taxi/bus.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.
The Goddard Arms
Old Town
Pick The Goddard Arms when the evening matters as much as the football. You are sleeping in Old Town itself, with Wood Street, High Street, Devizes Road and Victoria Road's pubs, bars and restaurants around you, and the property is a pub in its own right. The cost is a longer walk to both the ground and station, plus the very real possibility of late-night street/pub noise.
- Directly in Old Town, the part of Swindon most consistently identified for independent food, drink and nightlife.
- Pub-with-rooms format suits a football overnight without needing to travel elsewhere for a drink.
Hotels.com cross-check puts The County Ground at about 1.4 km / 17 minutes on foot. This is practical, but not as easy as the central choices.
Less convenient for the railway station than the central hotels and involves Old Town's hill.

Parking
Driving & road restrictions
For sat-nav, use County Ground, County Road, Swindon SN1 2ED, then follow the directions to your chosen car park rather than driving straight to the stadium entrance. From the M4, the club directs traffic off at junction 15 via Commonhead Roundabout, Marlborough Road and Queens Drive.
Coming from the Midlands, the club describes an approach via the M40, A43, A34 and A420 before Queens Drive. The Magic Roundabout sits beside the stadium, so allow extra time on busy matchdays and follow its lane markings. No specific closure for a future fixture has been independently confirmed.
If you are using Tesco’s booked parking or St Joseph’s College, navigate to Ocotal Way instead of the stadium gates. For council parking, navigate to the individual car park and keep the final walk in mind when choosing your arrival time.
- Stadium address
- The Nigel Eady County Ground, County Road, Swindon SN1 2ED.
- M4 approach
- Junction 15; Commonhead Roundabout; A4259 Marlborough Road; Queens Drive; County Road.
- Midlands approach
- M40 junction 9, A43, A34, A420, Queens Drive and County Road as published in club guide.
- Roundabout
- Magic Roundabout near stadium; obey signs and lane markings.
- Parking sat-nav — St Joseph’s
- St Joseph’s Catholic College, Ocotal Way, Swindon SN3 3LR.
- Parking sat-nav — Tesco
- Tesco Extra, Ocotal Way, Swindon SN1 2EH; reserve through dedicated operator rather than shopper parking.
Parking & park-and-ride
You can try to find free street parking, but there is no specific stretch near the County Ground that I can confidently recommend as unrestricted. If you want a straightforward matchday arrival, use an authorised paid car park rather than spending the final half-hour circling residential roads. Booking is worthwhile if you need to arrive close to kick-off.
St Joseph’s Catholic College on Ocotal Way welcomes home and away drivers. The club lists £5 parking on a first-come, first-served basis, so arrive early and have another option ready. The walk to the away end is longer than parking immediately at the stadium; check whether it suits anyone with limited mobility.
For a predictable booking, Tesco Extra on Ocotal Way has a separate YourParkingSpace product advertised for Swindon matches. It is about a six-minute walk from the ground and bookable for a chosen duration, with the normal shopper restrictions expressly excluded from paid reservations. Do not use ordinary customer parking for the game without separate permission.
Spring Gardens multi-storey car park is the useful council fallback: 662 spaces and £7.50 all day, with a shorter-stay tariff too. It closes at 8.30pm on Saturdays and does not open Sundays, so use another car park for Sunday games or late Saturday plans. Fleming Way is open around the clock, but its published short-stay tariff needs care for longer visits.
Allow at least four hours for parking, the walks, the match and getting back to your car. Old supporter reports name Shrivenham Road, but they cannot establish which bays are legal today. Check every sign, permit bay and yellow line; on the way home, expect traffic around County Road and the Magic Roundabout.
- Parking verdict
- Booking advised for certainty; legal free on-street parking may exist but no named section is currently verified as unrestricted.
- Free option — anecdotal lead
- Shrivenham Road mentioned in older fan report; not verified as unrestricted on either side or for full matchday stay.
- Legal restrictions — borough
- Swindon Council enforces yellow lines, time-limited and permit controls; TraffWeb shows orders but signage and updates may override.
- Matchday availability — free streets
- Old supporter accounts disagree and may predate changes; no current reliable vacancy forecast.
- Arrive by — St Joseph’s
- Arrive well before kick-off: first come, first served; exact sell-out time not known.
- Paid option — St Joseph’s
- Ocotal Way SN3 3LR; authorised for home and away supporters; £5 in club accessible-parking guide; first come first served.
- Paid option — Tesco booked
- Tesco Extra Ocotal Way SN1 2EH, football/event bookings via YourParkingSpace, described as six minutes on foot from County Ground; 24-hour access.
- Walk — Tesco
- 6
- Booking recommendation
- Book Tesco via YourParkingSpace if needing a reserved booking; verify match-date inventory and total cost before payment.
- Parking guarantee — Tesco
- Operator describes immediately confirmed reservations; exact bay allocation and live availability for a specific fixture not established.
- Supermarket permission/time limit
- Unbooked Tesco customer maximum stay and football-use permission not confirmed; paid YourParkingSpace bookings explicitly exempt from Tesco shopper restrictions.
- Paid fallback — Spring Gardens
- Council long-stay multi-storey, SN1 2BF; 662 spaces; £4 for 3–4h or £7.50 all day (tariffs from 21 June 2026).
- Opening hours — Spring Gardens
- Mon–Thu 06:30–22:30; Fri–Sat 06:30–20:30; closed Sunday.
- Paid fallback — Fleming Way
- Council short-stay multi-storey, Islington Street SN1 2HG; 654 spaces; 24-hour access; £4 up to four hours; longer daytime pricing not displayed on operator page.
- Parking — County Ground
- Club says spaces are limited and require an early enquiry; older sources give £10 but current ordinary spectator price and booking terms not reconfirmed.
- Parking — Cricket Ground
- Club’s accessible parking guide specifically says home supporters only; do not recommend for visiting fans.
- Parking — Drove Primary School
- Club lists Drove Primary School SN1 3AH as an option but away-fan eligibility, current price and opening not established.
- Total dwell time
- Plan at least four hours for parking, walking both ways, entry buffer, match and departure; more if arriving early or delayed.
- After the match
- Stadium and nearby junctions may be busy; old match reviews describe delays releasing stadium vehicles.
- Accessible parking
- Two away accessible bays stated in club disability policy; arrange in advance with club.

Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Swindon (Wilts) station for the County Ground. It is the town’s main railway station, and the football club quotes roughly 10–15 minutes on foot to the stadium. Allow a little longer to reach the correct away turnstiles when crowds are arriving.
Leave the front of the station for Station Road, continue by Corporation Street and turn onto Manchester Road. At County Road turn right and follow the stadium signs. Swindon station has lifts and step-free access to all platforms, but confirm assistance for your own train before travelling.
- Recommended station
- Swindon (Wilts), Station Road, Swindon SN1 1DQ
- Station to stadium walk
- Official sources give approximately 10–15 minutes; allow extra time for the away entrance.
- Rail step-free
- National Rail lists step-free category A and lifts to all platforms.
- Train service details
- Check live services and engineering notices on National Rail; no fixture-specific service was verified.
Station to ground & away entrance
Head for the away turnstiles at the Stratton Bank end of the John Trollope Arkells Stand, rather than the club’s main ticket office. The official ground plan puts the away ticket sales point beside these entrances, so check which block and stand appear on your ticket.
From the station, follow Corporation Street and Manchester Road to County Road and use the signed stadium approach. A large visiting allocation may also use the Stratton Bank, so do not assume every away ticket leads to the same entrance. Ask a steward before joining the wrong queue.
- Away stand
- John Trollope Arkells Stand, towards Stratton Bank; overflow may be in Stratton Bank.
- Away turnstiles
- Marked as number 3 on official visiting supporter stadium plan, beside away ticket sales number 1.
- Walking route
- Station Road – Corporation Street – Manchester Road – County Road.
- Away ticket collection
- Adjacent to visiting-supporter turnstiles on official stadium plan.
Rail

Buses
Buses & local travel
Walking from Swindon station is normally simpler than waiting for a bus. The ground is close to the town centre, and the club directs visitors to County Road via Manchester Road. If walking is unsuitable, ask for a taxi at the station or check the town bus options before setting off.
Swindon’s Bus Company runs service 17 between the town centre and Park South, with stops around County Road Corner. Board at Fleming Way and check the correct direction and return service on the operator’s timetable. The club also lists stops on Queens Drive, but older route numbers should not be treated as current without checking.
- Bus option
- Service 17 via Swindon town centre and Walcot West, using Fleming Way and County Road Corner.
- Bus boarding point
- Fleming Way town centre; check correct stop and direction.
- Nearest principal bus corridors
- Queens Drive and Fleming Way in club guide.
- Rail station taxi availability
- National Rail lists taxi transport links at Swindon station.
Accessibility
Accessible journeys
Arrange accessible parking directly with Swindon Town before you travel. The club’s disability policy identifies just two bays for visiting disabled supporters, with no extra spaces beyond existing allocations. There is a set-down point at the main County Road entrance, but confirm how to reach the away section from there.
The away wheelchair places are in a covered area at the front of the Arkells Stand, with accessible toilets nearby. The club also offers support through its disability liaison officer. Swindon railway station has lifts and step-free access to all platforms, though that does not by itself guarantee a step-free route from the station to the away stand.
- Away accessible parking bays
- 2
- Accessible stadium drop-off
- Main entrance from County Road; confirm with club before travelling.
- Away wheelchair viewing
- Covered section at front of Arkells Stand; five away wheelchair and companion positions on Level Playing Field page.
- Accessible toilets
- Two away accessible toilets in Arkells Stand as recorded by Level Playing Field.
- Club accessibility contact
- Caroline Lane, DLO: dlo@swindontownfc.co.uk.
- Station step-free
- Swindon station lists category A step-free access and lifts.
After the match
After the match
If you arrive by train, use the same County Road, Manchester Road and Corporation Street route back to Swindon station. Leave enough time for the crowd to clear the turnstiles and for any queues at the station. National Rail is the place to check your actual final connection.
If driving, decide which side of town you need to leave from before picking your car park. Stadium parking may put you into traffic at the Magic Roundabout, and old visiting-fan reports mention delays releasing cars. A council or booked car park slightly farther away can make the walk longer but reduce the need to search for a space on arrival.
If using Spring Gardens, remember the Saturday evening closing time and Sunday closure. Confirm the location of your away coach before kick-off rather than assuming it will wait where it dropped you.
- Rail return walk
- Retrace County Road – Manchester Road – Corporation Street – Station Road to Swindon station.
- Stadium car park exit
- Historical visiting-fan account reports delayed release until supporters clear; current managed exit timing unknown.
- Spring Gardens Saturday close
- 20:30; Sunday closed.
- Fleming Way opening
- 24 hours.
Where to stay
Stay around Fleming Way, Princes Street or the station if you want a straightforward football overnight trip. From here you can walk to the County Ground and back without relying on a late bus or finding matchday parking. Leonardo Hotel Swindon and Travelodge Swindon Central both have central locations within an easy walk of the railway station.
Old Town is a better choice if your evening in Swindon matters more than being near the station. It sits farther south, so expect a longer walk or taxi journey to the ground. If you are driving, do not assume hotel guest parking is available without registering: Leonardo requires registration and has a separate parking charge.
- Best rail/ground base
- Station / Fleming Way / Princes Street town-centre area.
- Hotel example — Travelodge
- Travelodge Swindon Central, Princes Way, Princes Street, SN1 2SF; hotel quotes 8-minute walk from station.
- Hotel example — Leonardo
- Leonardo Hotel Swindon, Fleming Way; hotel quotes less than 10 minutes from rail station.
- Leonardo guest parking
- Hotel lists registered on-site parking at £6 per 24h for residents, capacity limited, ANPR registration required.
- Old Town context
- An alternative for an evening stay but farther from station/ground, so allow a longer walk or taxi.

Swindon is straightforward by rail: meet near Swindon station if your group is arriving separately, then follow Station Road, Corporation Street and Manchester Road to County Road. The club puts the walk at about ten minutes, though allow longer for a pint and the Arkells away turnstiles. The Merlin, beside the Magic Roundabout, is the clearest conventional away pub; Swindon Cricket Club can work too when its clubhouse is open. Rail arrivals wanting proper beer and food can divert to the Glue Pot or Drink Valley. Do not assume the station-side Queens Tap admits away fans: a 2026 report says otherwise. At the ground, Bar 71 serves the away end when operating, separately from the home-only bar, and the Arkells kiosk takes cards. For food, Manchester Road has takeaway choices, while Magic Chippy's published 3pm Saturday opening makes it better after the match. Old Town's pubs and independent restaurants suit a longer visit or overnight stay rather than a rushed station-to-stadium dash. Colours, cricket fixtures and external food-trader attendance all need checking for your match.

Food & quick bites
Where to grab a bite, have a proper meal or try the local matchday favourite.
Magic Chippy
The obvious local chippy has proper fish and chips and a useful spot by the Magic Roundabout. For a standard 3pm kick-off, though, it is an after-match option.
Kitchen on the Corner
A proper independent café by the Railway Village for breakfast or an unhurried lunch. Eat in or take something away before heading towards County Road.
Chennai Dosa
For supporters with time before kick-off, Chennai Dosa offers South Indian cooking on Victoria Road. Its 10am Saturday opening works better than nearby evening-only restaurants.
Greek Olive
A proper Greek restaurant west of the station with grills, moussaka and sharing starters. Worth considering for dinner if staying over rather than rushing there before kick-off.
Arkells away concourse food kiosk
The reliable fallback for anyone going straight to the Arkells away end: hot food and drinks are advertised on the concourse, with no detour from the turnstiles.
Swindon Kebab House
A practical takeaway on the actual station-to-ground route, with grilled chicken, donner and pizza for supporters who would rather grab food than sit in a pub.
Kutting Chai
For a proper food stop in the centre, Kutting Chai serves Bombay-style street food rather than standard pub fare. It is a planned detour, not a grab-and-go stop beside the ground.
Food with Attitude (matchday trader lead)
A promising loaded-fries trader named in the latest stadium food guide. Its pulled pork and chilli toppings stand out, but it is not a confirmed fixture-by-fixture food stop.
