BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into The Nigel Eady County Ground

Head for the away turnstiles at the Stratton Bank end of the John Trollope Arkells Stand, rather than the club’s main ticket office. The official ground plan puts the away ticket sales point beside these entrances, so check which block and stand appear on your ticket. From the station, follow Corporation Street and Manchester Road to County Road and use the signed stadium approach. A large visiting allocation may also use the Stratton Bank, so do not assume every away ticket leads to the same entrance. Ask a steward before joining the wrong queue.

02 · Reach the away end

After the match

If you arrive by train, use the same County Road, Manchester Road and Corporation Street route back to Swindon station. Leave enough time for the crowd to clear the turnstiles and for any queues at the station. National Rail is the place to check your actual final connection. If driving, decide which side of town you need to leave from before picking your car park. Stadium parking may put you into traffic at the Magic Roundabout, and old visiting-fan reports mention delays releasing cars. A council or booked car park slightly farther away can make the walk longer but reduce the need to search for a space on arrival. If using Spring Gardens, remember the Saturday evening closing time and Sunday closure. Confirm the location of your away coach before kick-off rather than assuming it will wait where it dropped you.

Buses & local travel

Walking from Swindon station is normally simpler than waiting for a bus. The ground is close to the town centre, and the club directs visitors to County Road via Manchester Road. If walking is unsuitable, ask for a taxi at the station or check the town bus options before setting off.

Swindon’s Bus Company runs service 17 between the town centre and Park South, with stops around County Road Corner. Board at Fleming Way and check the correct direction and return service on the operator’s timetable. The club also lists stops on Queens Drive, but older route numbers should not be treated as current without checking.

Accessible journeys

Arrange accessible parking directly with Swindon Town before you travel. The club’s disability policy identifies just two bays for visiting disabled supporters, with no extra spaces beyond existing allocations. There is a set-down point at the main County Road entrance, but confirm how to reach the away section from there.

The away wheelchair places are in a covered area at the front of the Arkells Stand, with accessible toilets nearby. The club also offers support through its disability liaison officer. Swindon railway station has lifts and step-free access to all platforms, though that does not by itself guarantee a step-free route from the station to the away stand.

WHERE TO STAY

Would an overnight stay help?

Check your return services, then compare a station, stadium or town-centre stay.

Where to stay

Stay around Fleming Way, Princes Street or the station if you want a straightforward football overnight trip. From here you can walk to the County Ground and back without relying on a late bus or finding matchday parking. Leonardo Hotel Swindon and Travelodge Swindon Central both have central locations within an easy walk of the railway station. Old Town is a better choice if your evening in Swindon matters more than being near the station. It sits farther south, so expect a longer walk or taxi journey to the ground. If you are driving, do not assume hotel guest parking is available without registering: Leonardo requires registration and has a separate parking charge.

Travelodge Swindon Central ↗

For the best all-round football trip, stay around Fleming Way, Princes Street or the wider town centre: the ground, railway station and central food/drink are all walkable. Choose Old Town instead if the post-match evening is a bigger priority than being beside the station; it is the stronger food-and-drink district but sits uphill to the south.

For the evening

Old Town is the clearest evening base. Current local guidance identifies Wood Street, Devizes Road, Victoria Road and High Street as the main independent restaurant, pub and bar streets. It is around a 15-minute uphill walk from the modern town centre, so the trade-off is atmosphere versus station convenience.

For the train

Swindon railway station is west of the ground and directly useful for the central hotels. Leonardo is a short walk from the station; Travelodge states about eight minutes. Old Town accommodation is less rail-convenient and involves the hill.

Booking.com coverage was directly verified, with an 8.6/10 score from 5,441 reviews in the live search results.

Recent Tripadvisor evidence is strong on room cleanliness, comfort and central location.

On-site parking is limited and chargeable, with overflow/public parking nearby.

Some recent reviews describe breakfast crowding at busy times and occasional room/car-park noise.

The market can spike unexpectedly: a £159.30 Tuesday was found and excluded from the normal baseline as an outlier.

Pub-with-rooms format suits a football overnight without needing to travel elsewhere for a drink.

Booking.com coverage was directly verified; live search result showed 8.0/10 from 1,493 reviews.

Recent accommodation reviews praise value, cleanliness, comfortable beds and the Old Town location.

Still walkable to The County Ground for supporters happy with a roughly 15-20 minute walk.

Street/pub-night noise is a genuine issue for some rooms; a rear room is the sensible request for light sleepers.

The pub/restaurant review picture is more mixed than the accommodation review picture, particularly for food consistency.

Limited parking rather than the simpler central rail-first proposition.
