Use Southampton Central for St Mary’s. The club puts the ground roughly a mile away, around 20 minutes on foot, although reaching the visiting entrance in the Chapel/Kingsland corner can take longer.
Plan a stay at Southampton ↗Head for the away turnstiles at the south-west Chapel/Kingsland corner, not the old Northam away end. Southampton’s visiting guide identifies turnstile E and the away ticket office here, with the managed approach and departure via Melbourne Street. Follow the signs and stewards rather than trying to cut around the stadium’s restricted perimeter. From Southampton Central, walk east through the city centre towards St Mary Street and Chapel Road, then follow the signed Melbourne Street route. The stadium address is Britannia Road, SO14 5FP, but typing that into a sat-nav does not take you to the correct away pedestrian entrance.
Men's Visiting Supporters Guide 2024/25 ↗If you come by train, allow time to leave the Chapel/Kingsland away end via Melbourne Street before heading back to Southampton Central. Mayflower’s SS1 picks up on Britannia Road, and its football page publishes return departures for each fixture. Do not plan around an assumed last shuttle or a tight train connection. For drivers, the PR2 return to Adanac runs for two hours after the match on advertised weekend home dates. Stadium-area road closures generally remain until the crowd clears, while local accounts describe queues leaving Ocean Village. A city-centre car park or Adanac may give a more predictable plan than trying to collect passengers beside the stadium.
Men's Visiting Supporters Guide 2024/25 ↗Stay in central Southampton around Southampton Central or the main shopping streets if you want the simplest all-round football trip. You can walk to the stadium and have the option of the SS1 shuttle, without needing a car once you arrive.

The club puts the ground roughly a mile away, around 20 minutes on foot, although reaching the visiting entrance in the Chapel/Kingsland corner can take longer. If you prefer not to walk, leave on the platform 4 side for the matchday SS1 shuttle from Western Esplanade.
Woolston is geographically close but across the River Itchen, so it is not a better default for most visiting fans. Choose your actual train route first, and check the last service after an evening match. Southampton Central’s platform 4 lift interchange is currently affected by refurbishment; request assistance if you cannot use stairs.

From Southampton Central, take Mayflower’s SS1 shuttle at stop SF on Western Esplanade, outside the platform 4 exit. It runs to Britannia Road on Southampton home matchdays, with an adult return advertised at £3.50. From Town Quay and the Red Jet terminal, use SS2 instead and check the match-specific return stop.
If you are driving for a weekend fixture, Bluestar’s PR2 from Adanac Park (SO16 0AZ) is often the simpler choice. It serves Kingsland Market on football matchdays and costs £3 return per car for up to five people, without advance booking. Ordinary Bluestar routes 3 and 18 serve the Northam corridor, while the 7 serves City College; check diversions before travelling.
Away coaches and minibuses should arrange the dedicated free space on Melbourne Street before travelling. Southampton FC asks visiting coach organisers to contact PC Lee Grist at lee.grist@hampshire.police.uk rather than simply driving into the stadium streets.
Melbourne Street brings you to the controlled visiting-supporter approach for turnstile E. Confirm your vehicle’s arrival instructions and the collection time with the organiser, as the surrounding roads have event-day closures and the exact stewarded pick-up arrangement may change by fixture.
If you need accessible away parking, contact your own club before matchday. Southampton allocates four on-site accessible spaces to visiting supporters, arranged through the visiting club rather than general sale. The stadium parking surface is flat and tarmacked, but road closures mean booked vehicles must arrive early.
For drop-off, Southampton directs drivers to the main reception area near the Ted Bates statue via Chapel Road and Granville Street; this is not a place to leave the car. Fourteen marked Blue Badge bays on Rochester Street are first come, first served. The away ticket office has step-free access, while Southampton Central’s platform 4 lift interchange currently has an accessibility warning. Contact accessibility@saintsfc.co.uk or 02380 711 980 for individual arrangements.

Stay in central Southampton around Southampton Central or the main shopping streets if you want the simplest all-round football trip. You can walk to the stadium and have the option of the SS1 shuttle, without needing a car once you arrive. This also makes a late arrival or an early onward train easier to organise. Ocean Village is an alternative if you prefer the marina area and are happy with a walk to the away end. Staying close to St Mary’s is not essential for a daytime fixture; consider a hotel mainly when an evening kick-off leaves too little time for your last train home.
Men's Visiting Supporters Guide 2024/25 ↗For the best all-round stay, base yourself between the central parks/Charlotte Place and the Old Town/Oxford Street side of the centre. Charlotte Place gives the shortest good-quality walk to St Mary's and is also convenient for Bedford Place; Oxford Street is better if the evening is as important as the match. WestQuay and the waterfront work well for rail, shopping and broader hotel choice but add a little to the walk.
Oxford Street is the strongest compact food-and-drink base for a match weekend, with independent restaurants, pubs and bars; The White Star Tavern is directly on it. Bedford Place/Carlton Place is another established late-night cluster, particularly useful from the northern side of the centre. Ocean Village is more polished and waterfront-led than football-pub-led.
Southampton Central is on the western side of the centre. The club operates matchday shuttle services from the station, while walking to St Mary's is also practical. Leonardo Hotel Southampton gives the best balance of station access and a short stadium walk among the primary choices; Oxford Street/Queen's Terrace properties are farther from the station and easier with a taxi or shuttle if travelling with luggage.
About a 15–20 minute walk to St Mary's, so there is no reliance on post-match taxis or buses.
Bear in mind: Usually costs more than Leonardo Hotel Southampton in the sampled dates.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-01Immediately beside Oxford Street and the Old Town, giving a strong choice of pubs, restaurants and bars before and after the match.

Current guest evidence is strong: Booking.com scored it 8.7/10 from about 1,265 reviews at research time, while Tripadvisor showed 4.7/5 from about 1,167 reviews.
Kitchenette-equipped rooms and a later standard checkout make it unusually practical for a short football weekend.
Southampton Central is on the other side of the city centre; with luggage, a taxi or shuttle is easier than walking.
Recent feedback includes isolated complaints about the pre-authorisation/deposit process and the small car park; do not sell it as a parking-led choice.
Roughly a 13-minute walk to St Mary's, with no need for post-match transport.
Bear in mind: The experience is more functional chain hotel than characterful football weekend.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-01Convenient for Southampton Central as well as the stadium, making it a strong rail-arrival compromise.
Booking.com coverage is verified and the sample produced consistently competitive prices.
Large hotel inventory is useful on busy football weekends compared with small boutique properties.
Current Booking.com score was 8.2/10 from about 7,925 reviews at research time.
Recent Tripadvisor reviews are mixed: many praise cleanliness, breakfast and staff, but there are also complaints about air-conditioning, housekeeping and occasional service failures.
Oxford Street nightlife is not directly outside the hotel; Bedford Place is the nearer evening cluster.
Directly on Oxford Street among pubs, bars and restaurants.
Bear in mind: Oxford Street can be noisy late into the night; this is the wrong pick for someone prioritising an early, silent night.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-01The property itself is a pub, restaurant and hotel, so there is a natural pre/post-match option without leaving the building.
About a 17-minute walk to St Mary's.
Booking.com coverage is verified with an exceptional 9.3/10 score from about 1,220 reviews at research time.
Recent Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly praise staff, rooms, food, cleanliness and location.
Historic building with no lift; mobility and heavy luggage need more thought.
Small inventory means football/event weekends can sell out earlier than the large chains.
The six-date sample showed the strongest weekend premium of the primary choices.
