BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into St. Mary's Stadium

Head for the away turnstiles at the south-west Chapel/Kingsland corner, not the old Northam away end. Southampton’s visiting guide identifies turnstile E and the away ticket office here, with the managed approach and departure via Melbourne Street. Follow the signs and stewards rather than trying to cut around the stadium’s restricted perimeter. From Southampton Central, walk east through the city centre towards St Mary Street and Chapel Road, then follow the signed Melbourne Street route. The stadium address is Britannia Road, SO14 5FP, but typing that into a sat-nav does not take you to the correct away pedestrian entrance.

Overdraft is a current Bedford Place option with a clear food identity around tacos and craft beer. A Southampton supporter responding to a family matchday food question in August 2026 said lots of fans use it and specifically praised the beers, tacos and nachos. Useful as supporter intelligence rather than a verified away pub. Away supporters should not treat this as guaranteed admission without checking the fixture.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay in central Southampton around Southampton Central or the main shopping streets if you want the simplest all-round football trip. You can walk to the stadium and have the option of the SS1 shuttle, without needing a car once you arrive.

Pub food

The Dell

Good for Southampton supporters wanting a sit-down pre-match meal · home supporters wanting drinks on the stadium footprint

The Dell is Southampton FC's stadium pub and remains active in 2026. The club promotes matchday menus, bookable tables, walk-in drinking where space allows, outside bars and post-match use. It is a strong home-supporter food-and-drink option, but current men's home-match guidance does not clearly state whether away-ticket holders can use it before entering the away end.

Expect club-run stadium pub · pre-match dining · Saints focused

Before you go Booking is encouraged for food and a deposit can apply. Treat away access as unresolved: an independent away-pub guide labels The Dell home-fans-only, while club material does not provide a blanket visiting-supporter rule.

fanzone

Northam Fan Zone

Good for Southampton supporters who want atmosphere at the ground · families who prefer club-run entertainment

The Northam Fan Zone is an established club-run supporter space at St Mary's, used for home-match build-up and Saints away-game screenings. Current club material confirms food and drink and explicitly promotes family use; Southampton supporters also describe it as a lively pre-match option with a big screen and live music. Its positioning and branding are strongly Saints-focused, and away-ticket-holder access at men's home fixtures was not clearly verified.

Expect home-supporter hub · live music and big screen · busy stadium atmosphere

Before you go Opening times, entertainment and whether entry is ticketed vary by event. Do not assume visiting supporters can use it on a Southampton home match without fixture-specific confirmation.

Pub food

Queen Mary

Good for supporters using the Ocean Village side of the city · families wanting a pub with food

The physical pub historically recommended to away fans as the Admiral Sir Lucius Curtis still exists, but that name is obsolete. Wetherspoon disposed of it in 2023; after trading as King Canute it became Queen Mary in June 2026. CAMRA currently lists it open, family-friendly and serving meals. The previous away-fan welcome cannot safely be carried over to the current operator without fresh matchday confirmation.

Expect Ocean Village-side pub · historic building · former away-guide venue under an old name

Before you go Treat this as a re-verification target, not a confirmed away pub. Historic guides that still call it Admiral Sir Lucius Curtis are out of date.

pie and mash

Piecaramba!

Good for early rail arrivals · a filling pre-match meal

A proper food-first stop in Bedford Place. Piecaramba specialises in pie and mash, with meat and plant-based choices, and recent supporters have used it before football. It suits an early arrival better than a last-minute dash to St Mary’s.

Expect city centre · independent food · sit down meal

Before you go It is a restaurant rather than an away pub and publishes no football or colours policy. Check opening times for evening and Sunday fixtures.

Chapel/Kingsland away concourse

0 min walk

Good for late arrivals · supporters avoiding pub uncertainty

The away concourse is the safe fallback once you reach St Mary’s. Pukka is Southampton’s pie supplier, while the stadium’s current catering setup includes the usual hot-food range; payment is cashless.

Expect inside ground · cashless · away end

Before you go The club has not published a separate stable 2026/27 away-concourse menu or prices. Do not assume headline home-concourse pizza or fried-chicken kiosks are accessible to visitors.

WHERE TO STAY

Where should you stay?

Choose a base for the football and the rest of your visit.

Where to stay

Stay in central Southampton around Southampton Central or the main shopping streets if you want the simplest all-round football trip. You can walk to the stadium and have the option of the SS1 shuttle, without needing a car once you arrive. This also makes a late arrival or an early onward train easier to organise. Ocean Village is an alternative if you prefer the marina area and are happy with a walk to the away end. Staying close to St Mary’s is not essential for a daytime fixture; consider a hotel mainly when an evening kick-off leaves too little time for your last train home.

Men's Visiting Supporters Guide 2024/25 ↗

For the best all-round stay, base yourself between the central parks/Charlotte Place and the Old Town/Oxford Street side of the centre. Charlotte Place gives the shortest good-quality walk to St Mary's and is also convenient for Bedford Place; Oxford Street is better if the evening is as important as the match. WestQuay and the waterfront work well for rail, shopping and broader hotel choice but add a little to the walk.

For the evening

Oxford Street is the strongest compact food-and-drink base for a match weekend, with independent restaurants, pubs and bars; The White Star Tavern is directly on it. Bedford Place/Carlton Place is another established late-night cluster, particularly useful from the northern side of the centre. Ocean Village is more polished and waterfront-led than football-pub-led.

For the train

Southampton Central is on the western side of the centre. The club operates matchday shuttle services from the station, while walking to St Mary's is also practical. Leonardo Hotel Southampton gives the best balance of station access and a short stadium walk among the primary choices; Oxford Street/Queen's Terrace properties are farther from the station and easier with a taxi or shuttle if travelling with luggage.
