FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW SUNDERLAND TO LEEDS UNITED

This fixture is still months away, on 23 May. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Sunderland are involved in a fight to stay up by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Sunderland are 20th in the Premier League after 7 league games, with 4 points. Set that against the summer expectation: a side likely to face a difficult survival fight.

Sunderland come into the current picture with one draw and four defeats across their last five league games, worth one points from a possible fifteen. Leeds United's last five recorded league games brought one win, three draws and one defeat: six points from a possible fifteen. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

Leeds United are 7th in the Premier League after 7 league games, with 10 points. Before the season, they were seen as a side with survival to secure. Their position is more encouraging than that starting outlook.

The destination is Elland Road in Leeds. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For a one-night football trip, south-central Leeds around Sweet Street/Granary Wharf is the most balanced base: it is noticeably closer to Elland Road than the northern and eastern parts of the centre, while Leeds station and the main food-and-drink areas remain reachable on foot. Staying right by the ground only makes more sense when stadium proximity, parking or a quick post-match return outweighs nightlife. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

An away day is a chance to follow Sunderland somewhere different and make a proper day of the football. Check ticket access and the confirmed kick-off before booking; leave enough time either side of the game to enjoy the visit as well as support the team.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Clayton Hotel Leeds

Clayton Hotel Leeds

Sweet Street / south side of Leeds city centre

This is the hotel MatchdayHotels can most comfortably put its name next to for the broadest range of Leeds football trips. It is south of the core centre, so it gives up a little immediacy to Call Lane and Greek Street, but that is exactly what makes it a useful compromise: Booking.com places it about 1.3 miles from Elland Road, while the station and central bars remain walkable.

  • About 1.3 miles from Elland Road on Booking.com's landmark listing, materially closer than most central Leeds hotels.
  • South-of-centre position works well for supporters who want to walk toward the ground but still return to central Leeds afterwards.
The match journey

Booking.com lists the hotel 1.3 miles from Elland Road. The walking time is an editorial estimate rather than a live routed journey; supporter reviews specifically describe the ground as a workable brisk walk. Immediately after a match, walking can be more predictable than waiting near the stadium for road traffic to clear.

The trade-off

It is not in the middle of Leeds' main nightlife streets; expect a walk into the Boar Lane/Call Lane core.

Our view

This is the hotel MatchdayHotels can most comfortably put its name next to for the broadest range of Leeds football trips. It is south of the core centre, so it gives up a little immediacy to Call Lane and Greek Street, but that is exactly what makes it a useful compromise: Booking.com places it about 1.3 miles from Elland Road, while the station and central bars remain walkable. Current review evidence is strong for cleanliness, room comfort, staff and value, and there is enough football-specific feedback to show that supporters genuinely use the walk-to-ground strategy.

Why it suits this trip

  • About 1.3 miles from Elland Road on Booking.com's landmark listing, materially closer than most central Leeds hotels.
  • South-of-centre position works well for supporters who want to walk toward the ground but still return to central Leeds afterwards.
  • Booking.com review score was 8.8 with more than 6,000 reviews when checked, with particularly strong cleanliness and comfort sub-scores.
  • Recent Tripadvisor feedback repeatedly mentions clean, spacious rooms and friendly staff, and football-specific feedback describes walking to Elland Road as a workable option.
  • Verified as bookable through Booking.com during the sampled dates.

Getting to the ground

Booking.com lists the hotel 1.3 miles from Elland Road. The walking time is an editorial estimate rather than a live routed journey; supporter reviews specifically describe the ground as a workable brisk walk. Immediately after a match, walking can be more predictable than waiting near the stadium for road traffic to clear.

Pubs and the evening

Not on the main nightlife streets, but close enough to walk into the central bar and restaurant area. This is a compromise location rather than a nightlife-first hotel.

Arriving by train

Walkable from Leeds station; the hotel and recent reviews describe the station/city centre as accessible on foot. It is not as immediate to the platforms as the Marriott, DoubleTree or Queens.

The trade-offs

  • It is not in the middle of Leeds' main nightlife streets; expect a walk into the Boar Lane/Call Lane core.
  • The Elland Road walk is practical for many supporters but still around 25-30 minutes rather than genuinely stadium-adjacent.
  • Recent reviews mention occasional event/bar noise, parking charges and isolated maintenance/service issues.
  • Rates varied substantially across the sampled dates, so value depends on the weekend.

Research price context

Across the representative Booking.com snapshots, roughly £140 midweek and £160 at weekends for two adults/one room, with a wide sampled spread of about £99-£177 midweek and £128-£181 at weekends.

Premier Inn Leeds City (Elland Road)

Premier Inn Leeds City (Elland Road)

Gelderd Road / City West One Office Park

For supporters who want to be as close to Elland Road as reasonably possible, this is the obvious conventional hotel. KAYAK places Elland Road about 0.4 miles away and Premier Inn itself markets the hotel around the stadium. That convenience comes with a real trade-off: the Gelderd Road office-park setting is poor for a spontaneous post-match night out, and recent reviews are not uniformly clean.

  • Approximately 0.4 miles from Elland Road according to KAYAK, making it substantially closer than the main city-centre hotel stock.
  • Recent Tripadvisor reviews specifically praise the location for Leeds United matches.
The match journey

KAYAK lists Elland Road 0.4 miles away. The 10-minute figure is an approximate supporter walking estimate and can vary with stadium entry point, crowd routing and temporary matchday restrictions.

The trade-off

Weakest of the three primary choices for nightlife, restaurants and a city-centre evening.

WHY STAY HERE?

Premier Inn Leeds City (Elland Road)

Gelderd Road / City West One Office Park

Our view

For supporters who want to be as close to Elland Road as reasonably possible, this is the obvious conventional hotel. KAYAK places Elland Road about 0.4 miles away and Premier Inn itself markets the hotel around the stadium. That convenience comes with a real trade-off: the Gelderd Road office-park setting is poor for a spontaneous post-match night out, and recent reviews are not uniformly clean. The overall current reputation is still solid, including repeated football-specific praise, but the minority of cleanliness and maintenance complaints is meaningful enough that this should be labelled the proximity choice, not the all-round recommendation.

Why it suits this trip

  • Approximately 0.4 miles from Elland Road according to KAYAK, making it substantially closer than the main city-centre hotel stock.
  • Recent Tripadvisor reviews specifically praise the location for Leeds United matches.
  • Official on-site parking is available for hotel guests at a charge, useful for supporters arriving by car.
  • The hotel has a restaurant/bar, which matters because the surrounding office-park area has limited evening choice compared with central Leeds.
  • Current Tripadvisor aggregate remained strong at about 4.3/5 when checked.

Getting to the ground

KAYAK lists Elland Road 0.4 miles away. The 10-minute figure is an approximate supporter walking estimate and can vary with stadium entry point, crowd routing and temporary matchday restrictions.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel is around two miles from the centre in an office-park/major-road setting. It has its own restaurant/bar, but this is not a nightlife base.

Arriving by train

The station is in the city centre rather than by the hotel. For rail arrivals, a taxi/bus connection is more realistic with luggage than treating this as a station hotel.

The trade-offs

  • Weakest of the three primary choices for nightlife, restaurants and a city-centre evening.
  • Booking.com coverage could not be verified; it did not appear in the Booking.com Elland Road searches used for this research.
  • Recent review evidence includes isolated but serious cleanliness complaints, including one June 2026 report concerning dirty facilities/room condition.
  • Other recent reviews mention dated/shabby room elements, parking frustration and occasional service/food issues.
  • Being close to the stadium does not remove matchday traffic and crowd-management constraints.

Research price context

Recent comparison data suggest a value-hotel baseline rather than city-centre four-star pricing. KAYAK reported an £88 average weeknight and £94 average weekend night over its recent comparison window, while short-term observed rates ranged much more widely.

Leeds Marriott Hotel

Leeds Marriott Hotel

Boar Lane / Trinity Quarter

The Marriott is the strongest nightlife-first choice from the researched set. It is on Boar Lane, beside Trinity and a short walk from Lower Briggate/Call Lane, while Leeds station is also close. Booking.com scores it 8.8 with an exceptional location score, and recent Tripadvisor reviews are broadly positive about staff, cleanliness and the central setting.

  • Immediate access to central Leeds food, bars and late-evening options, with Call Lane close by.
  • Very convenient for Leeds railway station and rail-based supporters.
The match journey

Approximate straight-line distance from hotel coordinates to Elland Road is about 1.7 miles; the walking time is an editorial estimate and the routed path is longer. For many supporters the city-centre R2 matchday shuttle or regular bus will be preferable.

The trade-off

Further from Elland Road than Clayton or the Gelderd Road Premier Inn.

WHY STAY HERE?

Leeds Marriott Hotel

Boar Lane / Trinity Quarter

Our view

The Marriott is the strongest nightlife-first choice from the researched set. It is on Boar Lane, beside Trinity and a short walk from Lower Briggate/Call Lane, while Leeds station is also close. Booking.com scores it 8.8 with an exceptional location score, and recent Tripadvisor reviews are broadly positive about staff, cleanliness and the central setting. The downside is exactly what the location suggests: it is further from Elland Road, and recurring feedback mentions street/bar noise. This is the hotel for supporters who want the match followed by Leeds city centre, not the fastest possible return from the ground.

Why it suits this trip

  • Immediate access to central Leeds food, bars and late-evening options, with Call Lane close by.
  • Very convenient for Leeds railway station and rail-based supporters.
  • Booking.com score was 8.8 with almost 5,000 reviews and a 9.6 location score when checked.
  • Recent Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly praise central location, cleanliness and staff.
  • Verified as bookable through Booking.com on sampled dates.

Getting to the ground

Approximate straight-line distance from hotel coordinates to Elland Road is about 1.7 miles; the walking time is an editorial estimate and the routed path is longer. For many supporters the city-centre R2 matchday shuttle or regular bus will be preferable.

Pubs and the evening

This is the nightlife-first advantage: Call Lane is identified by Visit Leeds as one of the city's liveliest nightlife spots, and the Marriott sits in the same central southern core.

Arriving by train

Very close to Leeds station, making it one of the easiest options for rail arrivals and departures.

The trade-offs

  • Further from Elland Road than Clayton or the Gelderd Road Premier Inn.
  • A post-match walk is long enough that many supporters will prefer the R2 shuttle, regular bus or taxi once traffic allows.
  • Recurring review feedback mentions street/bar noise, including late-night disturbance.
  • Weekend pricing is typically higher than the sampled midweek baseline.

Research price context

Sampled Booking.com prices averaged about £140 midweek and £166 at weekends for two adults/one room, with midweeks ranging from £103 to £169 and the three sampled Saturdays from £161 to £169.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Elland Road

The ground

Sunderland at Leeds United

Elland Road combines famous stand names, Bremner's statue, supporter murals and memorial plaques with active West Stand reconstruction over the older structure. Some visitors notice its rougher edges, although views of the experience differ.

Recorded capacity
37,890

Views from the away section

Most seats provide good sightlines, though experience varies in older corners/rows.

Supporter observation

Current Hull supporter guidance describes the Leeds away view as decent from the upper section but emphasises the steepness.

Why the ground matters

Elland Road predates United and carries the Peacock origin story. It was sold during financial collapse, later recovered and now holds many of the club's statues, names and memories. Supporters' concern about the atmosphere during redevelopment reflects their attachment to this particular home.

Norman Hunter South Stand

Renamed in 2020 for the Revie-era defender; the south end has long been associated with vocal support.

Don Revie Stand

The manager's name is permanently attached to the ground he transformed into the base of the club's greatest era.

John Charles West Stand

The West Stand is currently the focus of the 2026/27 redevelopment and also contains the present away-supporter area at its southern end.

East Stand heritage

The East Stand concourse contains the 1972 plaques; the rebuilt 1972 mural is now on the East Stand security office.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Sunderland at Leeds United

Frequently one of the louder away-day environments, especially for high-demand fixtures.

From the supporters

Supporter observation

Recent visiting supporters still describe Elland Road as a proper old ground that can generate a strong, confrontational atmosphere when both ends are engaged, despite mixed views on the facilities.

Marching On Together immediately before kick-off

In the current Premier League presentation it is played in full after the league anthem; this order was chosen after supporter consultation.

Flags in the stands

Official matchday guidance describes supporter flags, including large/static displays, as part of the Elland Road pre-match scene.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Elland Road

Food & drink

Sunderland at Leeds United

Leeds is an away day to organise from the station, not Elland Road. Leeds United’s current guidance is blunt: there is no designated away pub and no pub near the stadium accepts visiting supporters. Rail arrivals should meet around Leeds station; the north-concourse Wetherspoons is specifically recommended by Fulham Supporters’ Trust, then use the R2 from Sovereign Street or allow roughly 35–45 minutes to walk through Holbeck.

Food and drink around the ground

For an overnight stay, the station/City Square and south-of-station/Sovereign Street areas keep you close to food, drink and the matchday bus rather than isolated by the ground. Away fans use the south side of the John Charles West Stand, with Entrances 1/2 and, allocation permitting, Howard’s. The official away fan zone is the dependable last drink. City-centre pubs can still require colours to be covered or refuse entry.

Food is stronger: Graveleys and Elland Road Cafe sit opposite the ground, while the away concourse has pies, burgers and loaded-fries options. Check the fixture page: fan-zone and turnstile times do change.

Wetherspoons - Leeds City Station

Accessibility

Sunderland at Leeds United

Arrange any accessible parking and visiting wheelchair tickets before travelling. Leeds United has accessible bays in its Grey, Green and Purple car parks, with widened bays in Purple Zone 1. These accessible spaces are free, but must be booked through the club’s advance process; a Blue Badge on its own does not secure matchday entry. The 17 former Lowfields Road accessible bays are suspended during 2026/27 fixtures and have moved to Purple Zone 1.

Accessible journeys

Check which parking area and walking route suit your actual away seat, and contact Leeds United’s accessibility team or your visiting club before buying travel. Visiting wheelchair supporters use the ramped Exit W1 gate by the West Stand away turnstiles. Leeds station itself has step-free access to its platforms, but the accessible route from the station to Elland Road and the suitability of any shuttle should be confirmed individually.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Elland Road

Before the match

Sunderland at Leeds United

Use Leeds railway station as your main arrival point. Elland Road has no operating rail or tram stop beside the ground, and Leeds United puts the walk from the city-centre station at about 35–40 minutes. The R2 matchday shuttle from Sovereign Street is usually the simpler final leg, particularly if you are arriving with a group or luggage.

Wetherspoons - Leeds City Station

The safest simple rendezvous for rail arrivals. A current away-supporter guide names it directly, and you can move from here to Sovereign Street for the R2 or start the walk south.

Current guidance says city-centre pubs may still insist on covered colours or refuse away supporters; do not treat station location as guaranteed admission on every fixture.

The Midnight Bell

A more credible Holbeck option than the Leeds-heavy pubs beside the ground. One away supporter reported no trouble getting in, while the venue remains a current food-and-beer pub rather than a football-only stop.

The Bay Horse, East Ardsley

A useful driving stop rather than an Elland Road pub. A current Leeds supporter specifically says away fans use it, colours are not a problem and lunch-time football is shown.

Where it is
Bradford Road, East Ardsley, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF3 2HQ

The Old White Hart

Planning your arrival

Be at the stadium perimeter before the busiest turnstile period.

Rail, Underground & tram

For a walk, leave the station on its south side and head towards Holbeck and Elland Road, allowing extra time for crossings and matchday crowds. Check your return train against the time needed to leave the ground and reach the station; a close connection immediately after full-time is risky. Do not use the former Cottingley railway station as a planned matchday arrival.

The closure has been legally ratified, and the White Rose replacement project has faced delays; neither is a dependable shortcut to the ground.

Recommended railway station

Walk — Leeds station to stadium
Leeds United states approximately 35–40 minutes; allow additional time for visiting turnstiles.
Station onward transport

Cottingley station warning
Cottingley station closure was ratified by ORR; do not treat its historic map listing as a usable matchday rail stop.
White Rose station warning
White Rose Rail Station construction and opening have been delayed; do not plan an Elland Road journey on an assumed rail service.
Last-train rule
Leave time for the post-match crowd, journey from Elland Road and any shuttle queue.

Station to ground & away entrance

Head to the main West Stand gates on Elland Road, not the entrances used by home supporters elsewhere around the stadium. Visiting fans occupy the southern part of the John Charles West Stand. The standard away turnstiles are Entrances 1 and 2; Howards Entrance is also used for some lower-tier allocations. Follow the entrance printed on your ticket.

If you arrive by the R2 bus, follow stewarded directions towards the south-west corner and the West Stand away entrance. For coach passengers, stewards control the pedestrian route from the designated coach area; do not cut through redevelopment fencing or restricted vehicle routes. The visiting ticket office is beside Entrances 1 and 2 and normally opens 90 minutes before kick-off.

Buses & local travel

Use the R2 shuttle from Sovereign Street, outside Caffè Nero near Leeds station, for the most direct public-transport route to Elland Road. It runs on most home matchdays and normally starts two-and-a-half hours before kick-off, with buses back towards the city after the match. Check the boarding location for your fixture: special city events have occasionally moved the stop. First Bus also operates the R3 matchday service from Thornbury Barracks and Pudsey.

The R4 serves Morley after the match only. The published First Bus matchday fare information lists separate special-service tickets, and ordinary MCards and West Yorkshire DayRovers are not accepted. Ordinary bus routes 51, 52, 55 and 55C serve the Elland Road corridor, with other routes serving Beeston nearby. Stops immediately outside the ground are suspended around kick-off and full-time, so check where your return service is stopping.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Elland Road

Parking

Sunderland at Leeds United

Book your parking before setting off for Elland Road. Leeds United now operates the stadium-area council car parks on matchdays and does not accept payment on arrival. A standard space costs £13 including the booking fee, but high-demand games can sell out. The Fullerton car park is unavailable during the West Stand rebuild. For better value, try the official White Rose Office Park parking at Millshaw Park, LS11 0DL.

Parking & park-and-ride

It costs £9.50 per match and must also be reserved in advance. This is a separate, authorised football car park with number-plate recognition, not the free customer parking at White Rose Shopping Centre. Allow time to reach the visiting West Stand entrance from the off-site location. We could not confirm an unrestricted residential street that is dependable for a complete matchday visit.

Older supporter reports mention Beeston Hill, Cross Flats Grove and Holbeck, but they do not establish today's legal bay-by-bay restrictions or likelihood of getting a space. Lowfields Road has event-day closures and suspended bays. Do not risk missing kick-off by circling residential streets. If the stadium and White Rose spaces have sold out, book the football Park & Ride at Stourton or, where operating, Temple Green.

A shuttle takes you to Elland Road and returns after full-time. Alternatively, park in a legitimate city-centre car park and take the R2 bus. Avoid shopping-centre or supermarket spaces unless the operator expressly authorises a football visit. Allow around four hours or more for the outing, including arrival, walks, the match and post-match delays.

Official stadium bookings guarantee space within the booked car park, not a numbered bay; follow the colour-coded route and save the pass in your phone wallet. Weekend and evening arrangements differ, so check opening times and your fixture’s park-and-ride service.

Parking verdict
Booking advisable; official stadium car parks are advance-booking only for 2026/27.

Driving & road restrictions

Use Elland Road, Leeds LS11 0ES, only as the stadium destination. If you have booked a car park, follow the colour and approach route on your digital parking pass rather than trying to drive to a stand entrance. Leeds United directs traffic to different Grey, Green and Purple car parks from M621 junctions 1 or 2, depending on the booking. West Stand construction has changed access throughout 2026/27.

The club says Lowfields Road closes around an hour before kick-off, while Elland Road itself closes 15 minutes before the final whistle and stays closed for at least an hour afterwards. The Lowfields Road restrictions are backed by the council’s 2026/27 events order. Do not stop on motorway slip roads, junctions or pedestrian crossings to set passengers down.

Comfort & weather

Sunderland at Leeds United

The forecast loads when you open this topic. Comfort and shelter guidance is below.

Some concourses are narrow and dated; post-match crowding around exits can be significant.

Shelter and exposure

Supporter observation

Recent Sunderland visitors repeatedly describe the Elland Road away concourse and access/exit as cramped and difficult when busy, with crowd pressure around peak pre-match and half-time periods.

Worth knowing

Sunderland at Leeds United

Statues, stand names, plaques and murals give an away visit plenty of Leeds history alongside the football. West Stand construction is also visible, and the practical experience can change as redevelopment proceeds.

Matchday features

Dominant East Stand. Very strong atmosphere. Narrow/dense older concourses. Old Peacock historical link

A detail worth noticing

The clearest indication that Leeds' greatest era is represented by people rather than only trophy lists.

Easy to miss compared with the exterior monuments; they turn an East Stand concourse into a small supporter-funded memory wall.

Its 2026 relocation is a small but revealing example of redevelopment having to negotiate with supporter heritage.

The 2026/27 build method means the old and future Elland Road are physically visible at once.

A ground-side marker for a player whose significance goes beyond Leeds: first black footballer to play in an FA Cup final at Wembley.

The annual remembrance and East Stand plaque show how supporter loss is incorporated into club memory.

Small pieces of club imagery spill into the surrounding streets, using history and slogans rather than formal stadium branding alone.

Old Peacock / Old Peacock Ground

Connects the pub opposite, the pre-Leeds sporting ground and the historic Peacock identity.

Elland Road as Asset of Community Value

The Trust's successful listing makes the ground's community importance a formal planning/community matter as well as supporter rhetoric.

Loss and recovery of ownership

The 2004 sale and 2024 return to direct club control explain why ownership of bricks and land carries unusual emotional weight.

1923 road and tram stop

Supporter demand was large enough to influence local infrastructure built to make Elland Road easier to reach.

1956 West Stand fire

The fire destroyed major stadium facilities and club records, leaving a genuine archival break in the ground's history.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Coaches

Away coaches

Travel with your visiting club’s official coach organiser if you want to be brought close to the away entrance. Leeds United provides a designated away-coach park, but redevelopment has reduced its capacity to 24 coaches. The organiser must reserve a coach space before matchday; unbooked coaches will not be admitted.

Ask your organiser to confirm the approach, exact parking location and departure instructions for your fixture. Stewards direct visiting supporters from the coach area to the controlled West Stand entrance. Coach passengers should return to the same organiser-designated collection point rather than assuming they can cross a restricted road after full-time.

Expect the police or stewards to hold coaches until pedestrians have cleared. The club warns that the West Stand car-park route and surrounding roads can be temporarily closed after the match.

Buses

Recommended matchday shuttle
R2, Sovereign Street outside Caffè Nero, Leeds city centre.
R2 starting window
Approximately 150 minutes before kick-off on most matchdays.
R2 return
Runs to Sovereign Street after the match; allow for queues.
R3
Thornbury Barracks / Pudsey Bus Station to Elland Road; starts about 90 minutes before match.
R4
Elland Road to Morley Town Hall after the match only.
Last published First Bus adult matchday fare
£5 return and £3 single, advertised for 2025/26; confirm the 2026/27 price.
Ticket acceptance
MCards, MetroCards and West Yorkshire DayRovers are not valid on R2/R3/R4.
Ordinary services near Elland Road
51, 52, 55 and 55C, subject to matchday stop suspensions.
Nearby alternative buses
24, 65, 75 on Beeston Road; 9A on Ring Road Beeston.
Temporary stop change example
For 30 August 2026 the R2 used Meadow Lane due to Leeds Festival; normal Sovereign Street service was due to resume afterwards.
Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Arrange any accessible parking and visiting wheelchair tickets before travelling. Leeds United has accessible bays in its Grey, Green and Purple car parks, with widened bays in Purple Zone 1. These accessible spaces are free, but must be booked through the club’s advance process; a Blue Badge on its own does not secure matchday entry.

The 17 former Lowfields Road accessible bays are suspended during 2026/27 fixtures and have moved to Purple Zone 1.

Accessible parking availability
Free accessible bays in Grey, Green and Purple car parks; wider Purple Zone 1 bays.
Booking requirement
Must pre-book accessible car parking for each fixture; club disabled-supporter registration and eligibility checks apply.
Lowfields Road disabled bays
17 bays suspended on football matchdays and relocated to Purple Car Park Zone 1.
Accessible booking guarantee
Once a pre-booking is confirmed, a car-park space is guaranteed but a specific bay is not allocated.
Accessible away entrance
Exit W1 gate, ramp adjacent to Entrances 1 and 2 / Howards Bar.
Accessible facilities
Wheelchair viewing positions, accessible toilets, Changing Places and sensory/quiet spaces; confirm availability by stand.
Rail accessibility
Leeds railway station has step-free category A access and lifts.
Stadium accessibility contact
Contact accessibility@leedsunited.com before travelling for individual arrangements.
Standard space if accessible allocation exhausted
Club says a standard £13 space may be booked if available; check route suitability.
After the match

After the match

After the match, allow extra time before trying to drive away from Elland Road. The club closes Elland Road to traffic shortly before full-time and for at least an hour afterwards. Lowfields Road also remains closed until pedestrians have dispersed, and the West Stand away-coach area can be held while coaches are loaded and released.

If you used the Stourton or Temple Green football Park & Ride, follow signs behind the North Stand for the ST1 or TG1 return coach. These run on a fill-and-go basis, with the final advertised departure 25 minutes after full-time, so head straight there rather than stopping for a drink.

For the city centre, return on the R2 shuttle or walk towards Leeds station, allowing a margin for queues. Drivers using White Rose Office Park may avoid the closest stadium traffic, but should still budget for busy local roads and a full walk back to the car.

Elland Road traffic hold
Road normally closes 15 minutes before final whistle until at least one hour afterwards.
Lowfields Road post-match hold
No normal vehicle movements until crowd clears; club advises 30–60-minute delay.
Away coach exit
Stewards may keep the West Stand coach area closed while away coaches load and depart.
Park & Ride return pick-up
ST1 (Stourton) and TG1 (Temple Green) behind North Stand.
Park & Ride last return bus
Club lists last bus 25 minutes after full-time, with fill-and-go departures before then.
R2 return
After-match shuttle goes back to Sovereign Street; allow for queueing.
Better for quicker departure
White Rose Office Park or pre-booked external parking avoids immediate stadium car parks, but no guaranteed journey time.
Evening rail margin
Allow for walking or shuttle queues before booking a last train; extra time and penalties are possible for cup games.

Where to stay

Stay around Leeds station, Granary Wharf or the south-western edge of the city centre if you want an easy football weekend. Leeds station is where most rail arrivals meet, and Sovereign Street nearby has the R2 matchday shuttle to Elland Road. You will also have a much better choice of food and pubs than immediately around the stadium.

For a quieter football-first compromise, look towards Holbeck or Sweet Street, provided your hotel has a sensible pedestrian route back. If your priority is the evening after the game, Boar Lane, Lower Briggate and Call Lane are more convenient, although the journey to the ground is longer.

Staying by Elland Road can make sense for drivers who value stadium proximity above nightlife, but check the hotel’s own parking permissions and matchday access. If you have an early train or a late kick-off, a room within walking distance of Leeds station is the simpler choice.

Recommended stay area
Leeds station / Granary Wharf / south-central Leeds for train and shuttle access.
Near station hotel example
DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds City Centre, Granary Wharf, by Leeds station south entrance.
Matchday transport from centre
R2 shuttle normally departs Sovereign Street near station.
Food and nightlife base
Call Lane and the city-centre bar/restaurant area.
Stadium-area trade-off
Elland Road south-west of city centre, away from main city-centre hotel and nightlife cluster.
Drive-and-stay caution
Ask hotel about specific event-day parking rights and restrictions; normal customer spaces are not automatically matchday parking.

Matchday services and parking arrangements can change. Confirm current details before travelling.

AWAY-DAY OVERVIEW

Before you head to the ground

Leeds is an away day to organise from the station, not Elland Road. Leeds United’s current guidance is blunt: there is no designated away pub and no pub near the stadium accepts visiting supporters.

Read full overview Hide full overview

Leeds is an away day to organise from the station, not Elland Road. Leeds United’s current guidance is blunt: there is no designated away pub and no pub near the stadium accepts visiting supporters. Rail arrivals should meet around Leeds station; the north-concourse Wetherspoons is specifically recommended by Fulham Supporters’ Trust, then use the R2 from Sovereign Street or allow roughly 35–45 minutes to walk through Holbeck.

PUB / BAR

Wetherspoons - Leeds City Station

Leeds City station, North Concourse, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 4DY
35 min walkAway access: check
BEST FORtrain arrivals · meeting point · quick pint · quick food
MATCHDAY INTELThe safest simple rendezvous for rail arrivals. A current away-supporter guide names it directly, and you can move from here to Sovereign Street for the R2 or start the walk south.
WORTH KNOWINGCurrent guidance says city-centre pubs may still insist on covered colours or refuse away supporters; do not treat station location as guaranteed admission on every fixture.
PUB / BAR

Elland Road Away Fan Zone

West Stand car park, Elland Road, Leeds, LS11 0ES
1 min walkAway access: checkAway colours OK
BEST FORlast pint · away atmosphere · food near turnstiles
MATCHDAY INTELThe most dependable pre-match drink at Elland Road because it is explicitly for visiting supporters and sits beside their turnstiles. It also removes the uncertainty attached to local pubs.
WORTH KNOWINGGeneric guidance says two hours before kick-off, but Leeds changes opening times for individual fixtures. Check the specific matchday page before travelling.
PUB / BAR

Howard’s Bar

West Stand / South West corner, Elland Road, Leeds, LS11 0ES
0 min walkAway access: checkAway colours OK
BEST FORlower-tier away tickets · pre-match drink · stadium food
MATCHDAY INTELUseful if your allocation actually uses Howard’s: lower-tier away supporters can enter through it and drink before the match, with a broader food list than the away upper concourse.
WORTH KNOWINGDo not send every away fan here. Current Leeds guidance says Howard’s is used depending on allocation; upper-tier Entrance 1/2 ticket holders should use their instructed route.
PUB / BAR

The Midnight Bell

101 Water Lane, Leeds, LS11 5QN
20 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendly
BEST FORproper meal · beer · walking approach
MATCHDAY INTELA more credible Holbeck option than the Leeds-heavy pubs beside the ground. One away supporter reported no trouble getting in, while the venue remains a current food-and-beer pub rather than a football-only stop.
WORTH KNOWINGAway admission is supporter-reported, not a published venue policy. With Leeds’ official near-ground warning in mind, keep colours discreet and have a city-centre fallback.
PUB / BAR

The Bay Horse, East Ardsley

Bradford Road, East Ardsley, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF3 2HQ
Away access: checkFamily friendly
BEST FORdrivers from M1 · lunch · early televised game · colours
MATCHDAY INTELA useful driving stop rather than an Elland Road pub. A current Leeds supporter specifically says away fans use it, colours are not a problem and lunch-time football is shown.
WORTH KNOWINGYou still have to drive into Leeds and park afterwards, so build in traffic time; this does not solve the final approach to Elland Road.
PUB / BAR

The Old White Hart

45 Town Street, Beeston, Leeds, LS11 8BZ
Away access: check
BEST FORexperienced away fans · Beeston approach
MATCHDAY INTELA live but deliberately low-confidence local option. A Wolves visitor used it successfully in 2026 with colours covered, while other supporters reported seeing occasional away colours without trouble.
WORTH KNOWINGLeeds United’s official guidance says no pubs near Elland Road accept away fans. Treat this as fixture-dependent supporter intelligence, not a guaranteed away pub.

FOOD

Graveleys Fish & Chips - Elland Road

Where it isDirectly opposite Elland Road, beside the strongly home-supporter pub area; exceptionally convenient for food but not an away-designated venue.2 min walk to the groundView on map ↗
fish and chipswalk-in chippy / takeaway
What to eatGo for haddock in light batter with chunky chips; fishcakes and fish bites are also specifically listed. Local reporting warns it gets very busy on Leeds matchdays.

The obvious traditional food stop opposite the ground: proper fish and chips rather than generic stadium fare, with a long matchday history and a location that could hardly be closer.

2 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendly
BEST FORfish and chips · quick pre-match food · traditional matchday food
WORTH KNOWINGPublished Saturday hours conflict between current directories. It also sits in a Leeds-heavy area, so check opening for your fixture and be sensible with colours.
FOOD

Elland Road Cafe & Sandwich Bar

259 Elland Road, Beeston, Leeds, LS11 8TU
Where it isOpposite Elland Road beside Graveleys; useful for an early breakfast or hot sandwich but very much in the home-supporter matchday environment.2 min walk to the groundView on map ↗
breakfast and cafe foodsmall independent cafevalue
What to eatFull English breakfasts, breakfast cobs/hot sandwiches and jacket potatoes are the recurring strengths in current local listings and reviews.

A proper old-school cafe almost opposite the ground, strongest for breakfast and hot sandwiches. Current reviews repeatedly mention matchgoing customers, value and friendly service rather than a polished football offer.

2 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendly
BEST FORearly arrivals · breakfast · hot sandwich · value
WORTH KNOWINGPublished hours are restrictive, especially Saturdays and Sundays. There is no published away-colours policy, so check opening and expect a Leeds-heavy room.
FOOD

What to eatAway upper: hotdogs, cheeseburgers and Pieminister pies. Away lower/Howard’s: loaded fries, chicken burgers and chips, hotdogs, cheeseburgers and Pieminister pies, including vegetarian/vegan pies.

Useful fallback if you skip food outside. The lower away area has the broader published choice, while the upper tier is simpler. It is football food rather than a destination meal.

0 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendlyAway colours OK

made-to-order sandwichesquick-service sandwich shop
What to eatShokupan milk-loaf sandwiches including roast chicken salad, BLT, roast chickpea salad and tomato, mozzarella and pesto; breakfast sandwiches are available in the morning.

A useful rail-arrival food stop when you do not want a sit-down meal. The appeal is speed and quality: proper made-to-order sandwiches a short walk from the station.

35 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendly
BEST FORgrab-and-go · early train · sandwich · daytime kick-off
WORTH KNOWINGIt is daytime-led and explicitly warns it may close early if the bread sells out. Do not rely on it for evening kick-offs or a late pre-match feed.

charcuterie, cheese and small platescraft beer bar with food
What to eatCharcuterie and cheese boards, small plates and toasties; current local food coverage highlights it as a relaxed station-side lunch with craft beer.

A better choice than generic station food if you want to sit down before moving on: strong beer, charcuterie, cheese and small plates immediately beside the rail hub.

35 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendly
BEST FORproper lunch · sharing food · beer · small groups
WORTH KNOWINGNo away-supporter or colours policy was found. Weekend tables can be busy, and the venue recommends booking even though it keeps some walk-in space.
FOOD

What to eatIndian street-food small plates such as vada pav, okra fries and paneer tikka, with communal seating and a two-dish lunch offer until 16:00.

One of the better station-side meals if you have time: distinctive vegetarian Indian street food, beer and communal tables, close enough to the rail hub to keep the onward matchday plan simple.

35 min walkAway access: check
BEST FORproper meal · vegetarian food · groups · train arrivals
WORTH KNOWINGNo football-specific door or colours policy was found. It is a public city-centre restaurant, so groups in obvious away colours should still use judgement on tighter fixtures.

breakfast, brunch and coffeeindependent cafe
What to eatBreakfast and brunch dishes, pastries and speciality coffee; the kitchen closes in the afternoon even though the cafe now stays open later for drinks.

The strongest early-arrival option in the station cluster. It is built for breakfast, brunch and good coffee rather than football drinking, which makes it useful before a lunchtime or afternoon kick-off.

35 min walkAway access: check
BEST FORearly trains · breakfast · brunch · coffee
WORTH KNOWINGThe kitchen closes at 15:00 on weekdays and 16:00 at weekends. For evening games it is an arrival stop, not a late pre-match meal.
