Identity & place

What this club is really about

Leeds United began after Leeds City's expulsion in 1919. Revie's great side won admiration and hostility, the 1975 European Cup final left an enduring grievance, and financial collapse later brought administration, League One football and the sale of Elland Road. Beckford, Bielsa and subsequent promotions gave younger supporters their own reference points. With one major professional club serving a city of Leeds' size, its football memories have a broad civic reach. Marching On Together, white shirts, Bremner's statue, stand names and supporter murals carry that history into matchdays.

The 2018 crest revolt, red sponsor-branding arguments, Trust efforts to protect Elland Road and 2026 debates over ticketing and redevelopment show supporters' continuing involvement. The West Stand rebuild is intended to help create a 53,000-seat ground, with fans attentive to the intensity and familiar historical features they value.
