FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW QUEENS PARK RANGERS TO DERBY COUNTY

This fixture is still months away, on 16 February. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Queens Park Rangers are involved in the promotion picture by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Queens Park Rangers are 9th in the Championship after 11 league games, with 17 points. Set that against the summer expectation: a side with survival to secure.

Queens Park Rangers come into the current picture with one win, three draws and one defeat across their last five league games, worth six points from a possible fifteen. Derby County's last five recorded league games brought two draws and three defeats: two points from a possible fifteen. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

Derby County are 23rd in the Championship after 11 league games, with 6 points.

The destination is Pride Park Stadium in Derby. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For most overnight supporters, base yourself in the city centre between Morledge and the Cathedral Quarter. You can still reach Pride Park on foot via Derby station, while having far more pubs, bars and food within walking distance after the match. Choose Pride Park itself when getting out of the ground and into bed quickly matters more than the night out. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

An away day is a chance to follow Queens Park Rangers somewhere different and make a proper day of the football. Check ticket access and the confirmed kick-off before booking; leave enough time either side of the game to enjoy the visit as well as support the team.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Holiday Inn Derby - Riverlights by IHG

Derby city centre / Morledge

Our best all-round Derby football stay. It keeps you in the city centre for food and a post-match drink, remains straightforward for the station, and leaves Pride Park within a realistic walk rather than forcing you to spend the evening on the retail/business-park side of town.

  • Balances matchday access with a much stronger evening location than the hotels immediately around Pride Park.
  • Derby Bus Station is next door and Derby Train Station is about a 10–12 minute walk according to IHG.
The match journey

Practical for most mobile supporters: hotel-to-station is around 10–12 minutes and Derby County states station-to-stadium is 10–15 minutes. Matchday road restrictions make walking particularly attractive.

The trade-off

Not the closest hotel to the ground; expect a roughly 25–30 minute supporter walk via the station/Pride Park route or a short taxi when traffic restrictions allow.

WHY STAY HERE?

Holiday Inn Derby - Riverlights by IHG

Derby city centre / Morledge

Our view

Our best all-round Derby football stay. It keeps you in the city centre for food and a post-match drink, remains straightforward for the station, and leaves Pride Park within a realistic walk rather than forcing you to spend the evening on the retail/business-park side of town. The current Booking.com quality scores are strong and the hotel has had a visible refresh, but light sleepers should ask for a quieter room away from the bus-station side.

Why it suits this trip

  • Balances matchday access with a much stronger evening location than the hotels immediately around Pride Park.
  • Derby Bus Station is next door and Derby Train Station is about a 10–12 minute walk according to IHG.
  • Booking.com coverage is verified and current guest scores are strong for location, cleanliness, comfort and staff.
  • On-site restaurant/bar gives a useful fallback without isolating you from the wider city-centre food and drink offer.
  • Recent review evidence repeatedly supports spacious/comfortable rooms and the refreshed public areas.

Getting to the ground

Practical for most mobile supporters: hotel-to-station is around 10–12 minutes and Derby County states station-to-stadium is 10–15 minutes. Matchday road restrictions make walking particularly attractive.

Pubs and the evening

Morledge is on the eastern side of the centre rather than in the middle of Sadler Gate nightlife, but bars, restaurants and the Cathedral Quarter are walkable and the hotel itself has a bar/restaurant.

Arriving by train

IHG states Derby Train Station is around a 10–12 minute walk or a short taxi ride.

The trade-offs

  • Not the closest hotel to the ground; expect a roughly 25–30 minute supporter walk via the station/Pride Park route or a short taxi when traffic restrictions allow.
  • The bus-station/city-centre position can mean late external noise; recent reviews specifically mention noise on the bus-station side.
  • Sampled midweek prices were markedly higher than ordinary weekend prices, so a weekday fixture can make this poor value.
  • Parking is off-site, albeit discounted, rather than directly attached to the hotel.

Research price context

In this controlled snapshot, about £160–£255 midweek (average ~£205) versus roughly £80–£115 on sampled ordinary Friday/Saturday nights (average ~£95). Derby's business-week pattern can invert the usual weekend premium.

Holiday Inn Express Derby - Pride Park by IHG

Pride Park / Derby station side

Our closest fully-audited practical choice. It is on the Pride Park side of Derby station, has verified Booking.com inventory, consistently solid guest scores, free breakfast and straightforward on-site parking.

  • Tripadvisor's current stadium-distance comparison places it about 0.4 miles from Pride Park Stadium.
  • Free breakfast is useful for an early departure and avoids needing to source food before travelling home.
The match journey

Tripadvisor's current stadium-distance list gives 0.4 miles; IHG's own attraction field gives 0.9 miles. In practical terms this remains a short, flat Pride Park walk, but the exact route should be map-checked before exposing a precise public walking distance.

The trade-off

Pride Park is convenient for football but has less character and far fewer late-night choices than the city centre/Cathedral Quarter.

Holiday Inn Express Derby - Pride Park by IHG

Pride Park / Derby station side

Our view

Our closest fully-audited practical choice. It is on the Pride Park side of Derby station, has verified Booking.com inventory, consistently solid guest scores, free breakfast and straightforward on-site parking. Travelodge Derby Pride Park is physically closer to the turnstiles, but its six-date rate baseline and normal Booking.com bookability could not be verified to the same standard in this run, so it is kept as a proximity alternative rather than promoted over a fully-audited recommendation.

Why it suits this trip

  • Tripadvisor's current stadium-distance comparison places it about 0.4 miles from Pride Park Stadium.
  • Booking.com describes Derby Rail Station as roughly a five-minute walk away.
  • Free breakfast is useful for an early departure and avoids needing to source food before travelling home.
  • On-site parking is currently £7 per 24 hours for registered hotel guests according to IHG.
  • Verified Booking.com coverage and strong current scores reduce recommendation risk.

Getting to the ground

Tripadvisor's current stadium-distance list gives 0.4 miles; IHG's own attraction field gives 0.9 miles. In practical terms this remains a short, flat Pride Park walk, but the exact route should be map-checked before exposing a precise public walking distance.

Pubs and the evening

Useful for the stadium and station, not Derby's main night out. For proper pub/bar choice, walk or taxi back toward the city centre/Cathedral Quarter.

Arriving by train

Booking.com currently describes Derby Rail Station as about a five-minute walk from the hotel.

The trade-offs

  • Pride Park is convenient for football but has less character and far fewer late-night choices than the city centre/Cathedral Quarter.
  • IHG's own attraction-distance field currently says 0.9 miles to Pride Park while Tripadvisor's stadium comparison says 0.4 miles; the discrepancy is likely methodology/route related and should be map-checked in the final front-end.
  • Parking is chargeable and recent reviews show some confusion about guest versus public parking rates.
  • The sampled midweek rates were much higher than weekend rates, making it less obviously 'budget' for weekday fixtures.
  • The evening food offer is functional rather than a reason to stay in Pride Park.

Research price context

The sample averaged about £190 midweek (£175–£210) but only about £80 on the sampled Friday/Saturday nights (£69–£100). Breakfast is included, which improves the football-trip value on the cheaper dates.

Leonardo Hotel Derby

Cathedral Quarter / King Street

Best fit when the evening matters as much as the football. It sits on King Street at the Cathedral Quarter edge, where Derby's strongest concentration of pubs, bars and restaurants is on foot, and its own bar runs later on Saturdays than many business hotels. It is usually excellent value in the sampled weekend market.

  • Direct Cathedral Quarter position for pubs, bars, restaurants and late-evening choice.
  • Hotel has its own restaurant, bar and gym; current official hours show the bar to 12:30am on Saturdays.
The match journey

A longer city-centre walk than Riverlights. Suitable for supporters happy with around half an hour on foot; otherwise use a taxi after matchday traffic restrictions ease.

The trade-off

Furthest of the three primary choices from Pride Park; walking back after the match is realistic but longer.

WHY STAY HERE?

Leonardo Hotel Derby

Cathedral Quarter / King Street

Our view

Best fit when the evening matters as much as the football. It sits on King Street at the Cathedral Quarter edge, where Derby's strongest concentration of pubs, bars and restaurants is on foot, and its own bar runs later on Saturdays than many business hotels. It is usually excellent value in the sampled weekend market. The caveat is quality consistency: the broad scores are good, but there are enough recent severe cleanliness/service complaints that we would not make it the unconditional overall winner.

Why it suits this trip

  • Direct Cathedral Quarter position for pubs, bars, restaurants and late-evening choice.
  • Booking.com coverage is verified with strong location, comfort and value scores.
  • Hotel has its own restaurant, bar and gym; current official hours show the bar to 12:30am on Saturdays.
  • Sampled weekend rates were frequently the cheapest of the three primary hotels.
  • Works especially well for supporters who want to stay out after the match rather than return to Pride Park.

Getting to the ground

A longer city-centre walk than Riverlights. Suitable for supporters happy with around half an hour on foot; otherwise use a taxi after matchday traffic restrictions ease.

Pubs and the evening

This is the strongest of the primary hotels for being able to walk straight into Derby's main pub/bar/restaurant cluster around the Cathedral Quarter, Sadler Gate, Iron Gate and nearby streets.

Arriving by train

The station is not as close as at the Pride Park hotels. Allow roughly 20 minutes on foot or use a short taxi; the bus station is closer.

The trade-offs

  • Furthest of the three primary choices from Pride Park; walking back after the match is realistic but longer.
  • Recent Tripadvisor evidence contains some severe cleanliness/dated-room complaints and inconsistent reception-service reports, even though the much larger Booking.com dataset remains positive overall.
  • Public parking is off-site at Chapel Street rather than on-site.
  • A £100 refundable damage deposit is currently stated on Booking.com and should be surfaced before booking.

Research price context

About £110–£150 midweek (average ~£135) and roughly £55–£100 on sampled Friday/Saturday nights (average ~£80). The sample again shows Derby's business-week pricing rather than a normal weekend premium.

The ground

Queens Park Rangers at Derby County

Pride Park's South Stand gives the late-1990s bowl its main atmosphere end. Heritage monuments and the East Stand Walk of Fame reward a look beyond the pitch, while away supporters sit close to vocal home fans. The tighter, muddier Baseball Ground remains vivid in supporters' recollections.

Views from the away section

Excellent away view is a recurring finding.

Why the ground matters

Pride Park carries memories of the Baseball Ground through the Bloomer anthem and bust, memorials, old bricks and the Walk of Fame. Supporters still use familiar old names in conversation. These details connect the modern stadium with the home Derby left behind.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Queens Park Rangers at Derby County

The enclosed design can produce good noise; the PA is often described as notably loud.

From the supporters

Supporter observation

Visiting-fan accounts show Pride Park can become genuinely loud when a large away allocation is present, with both the away end and Derby support contributing rather than the modern-bowl layout suppressing noise.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Pride Park Stadium

Food & drink

Queens Park Rangers at Derby County

Derby is an easy rail away day but a surprisingly awkward one for pubs. Derby station is only 10–15 minutes from Pride Park, yet several of the obvious railway pubs are home-only on matchdays. The Alexandra is the strongest station-side lead for visitors, while Harvester Pride Park is the clearest near-ground option and Navigation Inn remains useful for drivers using the away parking on London Road.

Food and drink around the ground

Covering colours is sensible unless a venue has confirmed the fixture: current supporter reports describe strict doors, and the Brunswick now explicitly admits home fans only. Food is much easier. Seven gives a proper meal on Pride Park, Navigation Pizza is handy for the away-car-park approach, Birds Bakery supplies a Derby-made pork pie or sausage cob in town, and the reopened Derby Market Hall works for groups arriving early.

Inside the south-east away section, current Derby County kiosks sell pies, burgers, chips, hot dogs and alcohol; Pride Park is cashless and stock varies by stand. For overnight stays, the station/Pride Park strip is most practical; Cathedral Quarter suits supporters prioritising city-centre pubs.

Bustler at Pride Park / Fans’ Park

Derby County has brought Bustler into the Fans’ Park for 2026/27, giving the stadium area a much stronger pre-match food-and-drink offer than older away-day guides suggest. Recent club guides describe independent food vendors, bars and live entertainment, with family activity around the wider fan-zone offer. It is one of the clearest current choices for supporters who want to stay at Pride Park rather than drink around the station.

Opening times and entry arrangements vary by fixture. Recent home-match guides require a valid match or season ticket, but do not establish a general away-supporter admission policy, so away access should be checked for the specific fixture.

Pride Park Stadium away concourse kiosks

For visiting supporters who want certainty, the away concourse is the safest documented food-and-drink fallback. Derby County’s current away hub confirms that visiting fans can buy food and drinks before kick-off and at half-time. It will not replace a pub or street-food stop for atmosphere, but it removes the risk of finding a nearby pub operating a home-only or fixture-specific door policy.

The Merlin

The Merlin is one of the closest full pubs to Pride Park and its official Hungry Horse page is openly football-oriented, with food, live sport and family facilities. That does not make it a dependable away pub: a January 2026 visitor reported being refused specifically because he supported the away side, and Greene King’s management response acknowledged the decision.

For home supporters it remains a practical near-ground choice; for visitors it needs a fixture-day check.

Do not assume admission as an away supporter. A January 2026 visitor reported being refused because they were an away supporter, with venue management acknowledging the decision in its reply; this proves a recent restriction at that fixture but not a blanket current policy.

Brunswick Inn

The Brunswick is one of Derby’s standout railway pubs and remains a strong pre-match choice for home supporters arriving by train. Its official site and a February 2026 CAMRA survey confirm it is open and serves food, while CAMRA now states clearly that it is home fans only on matchdays. That current rule overrides older away-day guides that still describe it as away-friendly.

The Waterfall

The Waterfall is extremely convenient for Derby station and still appears to be trading, with current CAMRA presentation, a 2025 food-hygiene inspection and future 2026 event listings. The matchday problem is access: historic supporter reports describe strict football checks and away-fan difficulties, while no fresh 2026 football policy was found. It should therefore not be promoted as a dependable away pub without a manual check.

Derby Conference Centre - Wyvern Bar / restaurant

The Derby Conference Centre matters to the away-day picture because Derby County currently directs away supporters to parking there. The venue itself is open and has a bar and restaurant, but its own website warns that these facilities may close when private functions are taking place. Older visiting-supporter guides say the Centre welcomed away fans into its bar, but there is not enough fresh evidence to promise that as a current matchday arrangement.

Accessibility

Queens Park Rangers at Derby County

Contact the access team before travelling if you need Blue Badge parking or step-free entry. Derby County has an away supporters’ parking area opposite the coach park in the south-east corner, approximately 100 yards from the visiting entrance. Spaces cost £10, are limited and must be arranged ahead of the fixture through the club or your own ticket office. Use Gates S or T for step-free access to the away section rather than a standard turnstile.

Accessible journeys

The club also operates a free buggy shuttle from the away coach park and parts of the stadium perimeter. It may pause during heavy pedestrian traffic, so arrange support in advance rather than rely on an immediate pickup. Derby station is normally step-free, but National Rail currently flags a Pride Park entrance lift outage. Confirm the lift and accessible route on your travel day; the stadium route itself has level footpaths and crossings.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Pride Park Stadium

Before the match

Queens Park Rangers at Derby County

Use Derby railway station for Pride Park. Follow the Pride Park exit onto Roundhouse Road, then head along Pride Park Way, Derwent Parade and Royal Way towards the ground. Derby County gives 15–20 minutes for the stadium walk; allow a little longer to reach the visiting turnstiles in the south-east corner. Derby has connections with London, Birmingham, Sheffield, Nottingham and other regional cities.

Harvester Pride Park

The clearest near-ground choice for visitors who want food as well as a pint. Current visiting guidance says it welcomes away fans, while the restaurant itself is open all day and built for families.

Navigation Inn

Still relevant for drivers because it sits opposite the away-parking area and has long been the standard visiting-fan pub. The weakness is freshness: away access is established, but not formally republished for 2026.

  • drivers using away parking
  • supporters approaching from the A6

Current trading evidence is slightly muddled by the pizza operation at the same address. Check the pub format and away door policy before relying on it.

Rail, Underground & tram

If your train arrives tight to kick-off, walking from the station is generally simpler than waiting for a separate shuttle. Check the return train before travelling, especially for evening games. Passengers who need a step-free route should check the station lift status before setting off. National Rail currently reports a lift issue affecting the Pride Park entrance, although Derby station is normally classified as step-free to its platforms.

Ask station staff about the accessible exit if required.

Head for the south-east corner of Pride Park Stadium. Visiting fans normally use turnstiles 43–48, and the away ticket office is at the same end. Follow the stadium perimeter signs and check the entrance printed on your ticket rather than joining the home-supporter queues. From Derby station, use Roundhouse Road and Pride Park Way before following Derwent Parade and Royal Way towards the stadium.

The club advises around 15–20 minutes to the ground, so give yourself extra time to reach the correct corner and pass through security. Away ticket collection opens about 90 minutes before kick-off. If you need step-free entry, the club directs visiting supporters to Gates S or T in the south-east corner. Arrange any assistance beforehand so stewards know what you need.

Buses & local travel

Walking is the simplest connection from Derby station, but there are buses if you are coming from the city centre or cannot manage the full journey. Arriva 1A and 1C serve the Pride Park area on matchdays, with diversions using stops on Pride Parkway. Check your direction and return stop with the operator before boarding. For city-centre arrivals, Derby County lists a matchday shuttle from Morledge, outside Shopmobility at DE1 2AW.

It normally runs every 20 minutes from about 80 minutes before kick-off, with one return trip around 20–30 minutes after full-time. The club lists £3 per adult single from 2026/27, but timings can shift under police control. The club also lists a Brewery Tap shuttle, but check whether it operates for your particular fixture. The regular Pride Park Park & Ride is intended for city-centre travel, not a guaranteed post-match shuttle.

Parking

Queens Park Rangers at Derby County

For an uncomplicated away day, book or pre-register authorised parking rather than search residential streets near Pride Park. The best budget choice is Derbion’s £4 matchday offer if you are happy with a longer city-centre walk. For less walking, Derby County recommends pre-booking the Derby Conference Centre on London Road. At Derbion, register your car and match online to receive a QR code, then pay £4 at the machine on departure.

Parking & park-and-ride

Use the Centre car park (DE1 2JF) or Basement; Bradshaw Way is excluded. Your code expires at 11.59pm on the chosen day and does not reserve a particular bay. Derby Conference Centre, DE24 8UX, is about 10–15 minutes from the away entrance. Book through Derby County’s linked parking operator, subject to availability. The club does not operate the car park, and the cost needs checking for your fixture.

For a free alternative, Derby’s park service lists Alvaston Park’s public car park off Meadow Lane, DE24 8QQ. Park paths reach the River Derwent and continue towards Pride Park. Check on-site signs and any football-use restrictions: matchday permission, gate hours and spaces remain unconfirmed. No unrestricted street bay near the away entrance could be confirmed. Fans mention Downing Road, but the council lists paid bays there Monday to Saturday.

City Point requires permits every day, and retail car parks must not be used without permission. Arrive 60–90 minutes before kick-off and allow four hours or longer for the visit. Stadium Car Parks A and B cost £10 through MiPermit, without an assigned bay, and exits may be held after full-time. For evening matches, check gates: the lower Park & Ride closes at 7pm and Derby Arena parking at 9.30pm.

Worth knowing

Queens Park Rangers at Derby County

The away corner puts visitors close to the noise of the South Stand. Before kick-off, the East Stand heritage displays, Bloomer tributes and memorials offer a route into Derby's history around a modern stadium.

Matchday features

Elevated accessible viewing platform. High-standard facilities. Clough/Taylor and Steve Bloomer heritage/statues

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

You are beside Derby's atmosphere end

Away fans in the South-East Corner are close to the South Stand, so the home noise is physically nearby.

Heritage is visible before entry

Supporter interpretation

The Walk of Fame and memorials reward a circuit of the stadium rather than a straight walk from turnstile to seat.

The old ground is still in the conversation

Supporter interpretation

Supporters' language and memorials repeatedly pull the Baseball Ground into a Pride Park matchday.

A familiar pre-match song

Steve Bloomer's Watchin' is a Derby-specific anthem with a documented origin and connection to the club's record goalscorer.

Walk the East Stand exterior

The Walk of Fame is easy to miss if a visitor heads straight to the turnstile; as of September 2026 it includes both title-era icons and modern favourites.

Look for Bloomer

Supporter interpretation

The Bloomer memorial and song explain why a player born in the 1870s still has a matchday presence.

Reg Harrison's Baseball Ground bricks

The plinth beneath Harrison's bust literally carries material from the old home into the new one.

Notice the away/South Stand relationship

The away corner is adjacent to Derby's principal standing/atmosphere area, which shapes how the ground sounds in bigger matches.

Baseball Ground memory

Supporter interpretation

The move in 1997 did not sever the old-ground story; artefacts, bricks, supporter recollections and memorials keep it present.

First-night mishap

Pride Park's first competitive match being abandoned for floodlight failure has become part of the stadium's origin story.

Heritage as a live project

The Walk of Fame and supporter exhibitions continue to add names and objects rather than treating heritage as finished.

Coaches

Away coaches

If you are arriving on an official supporters’ coach, the designated away coach park is opposite the stadium’s south-east corner. From there it is normally a two- or three-minute walk to the visiting section and turnstiles 43–48. Follow the stewarded route rather than walking around to the main reception.

Ask your own club or coach organiser to confirm the arrival instructions and the exact departure point for your fixture. Derby County confirms a buggy service around the away coach area for supporters who need extra help, but it can pause when pedestrian movements make the route unsafe.

After full-time, return to the coach park as directed by stewards and allow for the local traffic exclusion zone before the coach can leave.

Buses

Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Contact the access team before travelling if you need Blue Badge parking or step-free entry. Derby County has an away supporters’ parking area opposite the coach park in the south-east corner, approximately 100 yards from the visiting entrance. Spaces cost £10, are limited and must be arranged ahead of the fixture through the club or your own ticket office.

Use Gates S or T for step-free access to the away section rather than a standard turnstile.

After the match

After the match

If you are catching a train, walk back towards Derby station by the Pride Park Way and Roundhouse Road route. Give yourself a sensible margin rather than planning to catch a service minutes after the final whistle. The walk back can slow as crowds leave the south-east corner.

Drivers should expect traffic controls on Royal Way and Derwent Parade for up to an hour after the game. Derby County says vehicles in Car Park A may be temporarily held while pedestrians clear. An outer car park, including Derby Conference Centre or the city-centre Derbion offer, avoids being immediately beside the stadium gates, though it does not guarantee an uncongested exit.

If using the Morledge shuttle, remember the club advertises only one post-match return, normally 20–30 minutes after full-time and dependent on police approval. Confirm its pick-up with staff before kick-off.

Where to stay

For most visiting supporters staying overnight, Derby city centre is the best base. The Cathedral Quarter and nearby Morledge area give you a wider choice of food and pubs after the game, while Derby station provides the straightforward walking route out to Pride Park.

If the match is the main purpose of the trip and a short post-match journey matters more than nightlife, look at the hotels around Derby station and Pride Park. You can walk between the station, away entrance and accommodation without arranging a late taxi through stadium traffic.

For a night out, the streets around Sadler Gate and the Cathedral Quarter offer more choice than the business parks surrounding the ground. An evening fixture may finish too late for an easy onward rail connection, so check the last train before deciding whether to stay.

Read full overview Hide full overview

Derby is an easy rail away day but a surprisingly awkward one for pubs. Derby station is only 10–15 minutes from Pride Park, yet several of the obvious railway pubs are home-only on matchdays. The Alexandra is the strongest station-side lead for visitors, while Harvester Pride Park is the clearest near-ground option and Navigation Inn remains useful for drivers using the away parking on London Road.

PUB / BAR

Harvester Pride Park

Roundhouse Road, Off Pride Park, Derby DE24 8JE
10 min walkUsually away-friendlyFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORfamilies · away supporters wanting food near the ground · groups
MATCHDAY INTELThe clearest near-ground choice for visitors who want food as well as a pint. Current visiting guidance says it welcomes away fans, while the restaurant itself is open all day and built for families.
WORTH KNOWINGAdmission has varied historically and no current colours policy is published. For a derby or large following, check the specific fixture rather than treating access as unconditional.
PUB / BAR

The Merlin

1 Orient Way, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8BY
Away access: checkFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORDerby supporters wanting a pub beside Pride Park · families wanting food, TV sport and an outdoor play area · home fans who want minimum walking before kick-off
MATCHDAY INTELThe Merlin is one of the closest full pubs to Pride Park and its official Hungry Horse page is openly football-oriented, with food, live sport and family facilities. That does not make it a dependable away pub: a January 2026 visitor reported being refused specifically because he supported the away side, and Greene King’s management response acknowledged the decision. For home supporters it remains a practical near-ground choice; for visitors it needs a fixture-day check.
WORTH KNOWINGDo not assume admission as an away supporter. A January 2026 visitor reported being refused because they were an away supporter, with venue management acknowledging the decision in its reply; this proves a recent restriction at that fixture but not a blanket current policy.
PUB / BAR

Derby Conference Centre - Wyvern Bar

London Road, Derby DE24 8UX
15 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORsupporters parking at the Conference Centre · drivers
MATCHDAY INTELUseful because it is where Derby currently sends visiting drivers to park, not because the bar is guaranteed. Older visiting guides record away-fan use, but current private functions can close the bar and restaurant.
WORTH KNOWINGCall ahead. The venue explicitly warns that its bar and restaurant may close for private functions, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings.
PUB / BAR

The Waterfall

Railway Terrace, Derby, DE1 2RU
Away access: checkFood available
BEST FORstation-area convenience if matchday admission is confirmed · supporters wanting food and sports TV near the railway station
MATCHDAY INTELThe Waterfall is extremely convenient for Derby station and still appears to be trading, with current CAMRA presentation, a 2025 food-hygiene inspection and future 2026 event listings. The matchday problem is access: historic supporter reports describe strict football checks and away-fan difficulties, while no fresh 2026 football policy was found. It should therefore not be promoted as a dependable away pub without a manual check.
WORTH KNOWINGStatus and matchday access need an editor check. Current web signals support continued trading, but the available football-admission evidence is old and restrictive.
PUB / BAR

The Exeter Arms

Exeter Place, Derby DE1 2EU
18 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORearly arrivals · proper pub meal · real ale · overnight supporters
MATCHDAY INTELA city-centre choice worth the extra walk when food matters. It has long appeared in visiting-fan recommendations and remains one of Derby’s strongest pubs for local ale and a proper meal.
WORTH KNOWINGRecent operation and food are well verified, but current away admission is not. It gets very busy when Derby are home, so book food and keep colours discreet.
PUB / BAR

Alexandra Hotel

203 Siddals Road, Derby DE1 2QE
15 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendlyLimited food
BEST FORtrain arrivals · real-ale drinkers · small away groups
MATCHDAY INTELThe best station-side pub lead now that the Brunswick is home-only.
WORTH KNOWINGCurrent venue sources confirm football-day popularity, not a formal away-door rule. It is fairly compact, and colours remain unverified for the fixture.
PUB / BAR

Navigation Inn

805 London Road, Derby DE24 8UU
12 min walkAway access: checkFood available
BEST FORdrivers using away parking · supporters approaching from the A6
MATCHDAY INTELStill relevant for drivers because it sits opposite the away-parking area and has long been the standard visiting-fan pub. The weakness is freshness: away access is established, but not formally republished for 2026.
WORTH KNOWINGCurrent trading evidence is slightly muddled by the pizza operation at the same address. Check the pub format and away door policy before relying on it.
PUB / BAR

Brunswick Inn

1 Railway Terrace, Derby, DE1 2RU
Not for away fansFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORDerby supporters arriving by train · real-ale drinkers · home fans who want a traditional pub before walking to Pride Park
MATCHDAY INTELThe Brunswick is one of Derby’s standout railway pubs and remains a strong pre-match choice for home supporters arriving by train. Its official site and a February 2026 CAMRA survey confirm it is open and serves food, while CAMRA now states clearly that it is home fans only on matchdays. That current rule overrides older away-day guides that still describe it as away-friendly.
WORTH KNOWINGCAMRA's March 2026 entry explicitly says 'Home fans only on match days'. That is stronger and newer than older visiting-fan guides that suggested early, discreet away use. No separate current colours policy is stated.

FANZONE

Bustler at Pride Park / Fans’ Park

Where it isPride Park Stadium, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8XLView on map ↗

Derby County has brought Bustler into the Fans’ Park for 2026/27, giving the stadium area a much stronger pre-match food-and-drink offer than older away-day guides suggest. Recent club guides describe independent food vendors, bars and live entertainment, with family activity around the wider fan-zone offer. It is one of the clearest current choices for supporters who want to stay at Pride Park rather than drink around the station.

Away access: checkFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORhome supporters wanting a lively pre-match hub · families who want food and entertainment close to the stadium · supporters who want independent food traders rather than only concourse kiosks
WORTH KNOWINGOpening times and entry arrangements vary by fixture. Recent home-match guides require a valid match or season ticket, but do not establish a general away-supporter admission policy, so away access should be checked for the specific fixture.
