Derby County

A club whose identity is built from Derby's industrial streets, the ghost of the Baseball Ground, two championship sides, Clough-and-Taylor argument, and a modern conviction that supporters have to help guard the club as well as follow it.

What this club is really about

Derby grew from the county cricket club into a football club beside a foundry and railway workforce, then became champions of England twice. The Baseball Ground supplied mud, crowded stands and nights such as the win over Real Madrid. Clough and Taylor brought a title and a bitter split. Later supporters faced fresh arguments over who should run and protect Derby during the 1984 crisis, ownership protests in the 2000s and administration in 2021-22.

Why that identity still matters

Statues, busts, the Walk of Fame, the Bloomer anthem and supporter heritage projects carry older Derby into Pride Park. After administration, the Supporters' Board gained defined powers over heritage matters. Remembering the club's past and protecting its future now come together in the way it is run.
