What this club is really about
Millwall's story makes most sense as a story of place and defiance rather than trophies. The club kept the name of an Isle of Dogs district after crossing the Thames, built a fearsome attachment to The Den, and turned hostility from rivals, authorities and the press into part of its own language. That self-image has sometimes hardened into siege mentality, but it also sits beside organised supporter activism, strong community work and a willingness to fight to keep the club in its inner-London home.
