Identity & place

What this club is really about

New Brompton bought the Priestfield site when the club began. Gillingham lost their League place in 1938, returned, nearly fell out again in 1993 and entered receivership in 1995. Five years later they reached the second tier. The Rainham End, the Brian Moore's Head fanzine and memories of Swindon ties give those years their own voices. The ground has changed around them, although the temporary away end has lasted more than twenty years.

Living identity

Why that identity still matters

The Galinson takeover brought hopes of a change after declining results and strained relations with the previous ownership. Supporters had already experienced rescue and recovery. Priestfield keeps reminders of those periods in view, with the Medway, Rainham and Gordon Road sides beside the uncovered Brian Moore Stand.
