FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW CAMBRIDGE UNITED TO PETERBOROUGH UNITED

Peterborough is a historic city, so there is a reason to make time for the place as well as Weston Homes Stadium. An earlier arrival or a night in town gives you more of the trip than the route straight to the turnstiles. For most supporters, base yourself in the compact city-centre belt between Wentworth Street, Westgate, Cathedral Square and Broadway. It keeps the station, pre/post-match food and drink, and the ground within walking range. The exception is anyone whose overriding priority is stepping out of the hotel almost straight into the stadium: The Queensgate Hotel is effectively beside the ground, but its current quality and parking-feedback profile is weaker than the better central choices. There is an established rivalry here, which gives the away end an extra reason to turn out.

Cambridge United are 4th in League One after 11 league games, with 20 points. They started the campaign regarded as a side likely to face a survival fight. Their position is more encouraging than that starting outlook. Cambridge United are in the play-off places, below the two automatic promotion spots. Keeping that place is the first job; moving higher would give supporters more to chase.

Peterborough United are 21st in League One after 11 league games, with 9 points. Peterborough United are in the bottom four, level on points with the side immediately above the relegation places. A result here would help the effort to climb out; it would not settle the season on its own.

Over their last five recorded league games, Cambridge United have taken nine points from a possible fifteen: two wins and three draws.

Build the day around supporting Cambridge United from the away end, with time to meet up before the match rather than arriving at the turnstiles in a rush. Confirm the tickets and kick-off first, then compare the return journey with an overnight stay.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Park Inn by Radisson Peterborough

Park Inn by Radisson Peterborough

City centre / Wentworth Street

The best all-round current choice for a Peterborough United overnight trip. • A practical roughly 10-13 minute walk to the ground, so supporters can do the match on foot.
  • Central enough for Cathedral Square, Bridge Street and the wider city-centre food-and-drink offer.
The match journey

Approximately 0.46 miles straight-line from hotel/stadium coordinates; the realistic pedestrian route is nearer 0.6 miles and typically around 10-13 minutes, using the central/Town Bridge approach.

WHY STAY HERE?

Park Inn by Radisson Peterborough

City centre / Wentworth Street

Our view

The best all-round current choice for a Peterborough United overnight trip. It gives up only a few minutes versus the closest stadium hotels, but in return you get a much stronger recent quality signal, a central position for food and drinks, useful station access, free hotel parking and verified Booking.com availability. The main caution is price volatility: some midweek dates are much dearer than non-match weekends.

Why it suits this trip

  • A practical roughly 10-13 minute walk to the ground, so supporters can do the match on foot.
  • Central enough for Cathedral Square, Bridge Street and the wider city-centre food-and-drink offer.
  • Strong current Booking.com guest scores for cleanliness, comfort, staff and location.
  • Free parking is useful for supporters driving in but wanting to leave the car at the hotel.
  • Verified as currently bookable through Booking.com.

Getting to the ground

Approximately 0.46 miles straight-line from hotel/stadium coordinates; the realistic pedestrian route is nearer 0.6 miles and typically around 10-13 minutes, using the central/Town Bridge approach.

Pubs and the evening

A good compromise rather than being directly on the late-night strip: the hotel is central and close to the restaurant quarter, with Broadway and Westgate reachable on foot.

Arriving by train

On the city-centre/station side of the river and practical on foot; allow roughly 10-12 minutes depending on route and luggage.

The trade-offs

  • Midweek prices were highly variable in the sampled dates and can be substantially higher than weekends.
  • Recent feedback includes isolated complaints around air-conditioning/refund handling and some parking-signage confusion.
  • It is not literally next to the stadium; Queensgate is much closer if distance overrides hotel quality.

Research price context

Sampled midweek rates ranged from about £85 to £207, averaging roughly £142. Non-home-match Friday/Saturday samples ranged from about £62 to £119, averaging roughly £87. In this sample weekends were cheaper, not dearer.

Closest to the groundPut the stadium journey first
The Queensgate Hotel

The Queensgate Hotel

Fletton Avenue / stadium edge

The distance winner by a large margin: Booking.com describes it as next to Peterborough Football Club and the hotel is about a tenth of a mile from the stadium coordinates. It can make sense for a supporter who wants the shortest possible post-match walk and a low room price.

  • Effectively beside Weston Homes Stadium; the walk is only a couple of minutes.
  • Generally the cheapest of the three primary hotels in the sampled dates.
The match journey

Approximately 0.11 miles straight-line from the stadium coordinates. Booking.com explicitly describes the hotel as next to Peterborough Football Club.

The trade-off

Current Booking.com score is materially below Park Inn and The Bull.

WHY STAY HERE?

The Queensgate Hotel

Fletton Avenue / stadium edge

Our view

The distance winner by a large margin: Booking.com describes it as next to Peterborough Football Club and the hotel is about a tenth of a mile from the stadium coordinates. It can make sense for a supporter who wants the shortest possible post-match walk and a low room price. It is deliberately not the overall recommendation because current quality scores are lower and 2026 review evidence contains repeated parking-control and maintenance complaints.

Why it suits this trip

  • Effectively beside Weston Homes Stadium; the walk is only a couple of minutes.
  • Generally the cheapest of the three primary hotels in the sampled dates.
  • Still walkable to the city centre rather than being stranded in an out-of-town stadium zone.
  • Verified as currently bookable through Booking.com.
  • Private parking is available, subject to the hotel's registration/control process.

Getting to the ground

Approximately 0.11 miles straight-line from the stadium coordinates. Booking.com explicitly describes the hotel as next to Peterborough Football Club.

Pubs and the evening

You can walk into the central food-and-drink area, but the hotel itself is on the stadium side of the river rather than in the main evening cluster. Allow roughly 10-15 minutes to reach the core central streets.

Arriving by train

Walkable but less convenient than the city-centre hotels; allow roughly 15-20 minutes with Town Bridge and central road crossings.

The trade-offs

  • Current Booking.com score is materially below Park Inn and The Bull.
  • Rooms and bathrooms are repeatedly described as basic or dated, with some maintenance and soundproofing complaints.
  • Several 2026 Tripadvisor reviews report £100 parking-charge problems where vehicle registration was not correctly captured; drivers should proactively confirm registration at reception.
  • Nightlife and station access are less convenient than the central hotels.

Research price context

Sampled midweek rates ranged from about £51 to £81, averaging roughly £61. Non-home-match weekend samples ranged from about £45 to £64, averaging roughly £54. The low price is the attraction, but quality is correspondingly more basic than the recommended hotel.

Westgate / city centre

The strongest pick if the football trip includes a proper city-centre evening. The Bull is on Westgate at the heart of Peterborough's central entertainment and shopping district, within an easy walk of Broadway, Cathedral Square and the station. It also has more character than the modern chains.

  • Best of the primary choices for being immediately in the city-centre food, pub and late-evening area.
  • Broadway, identified by local tourism material as Peterborough's nightlife area, is close by.
The match journey

Approximately 0.68 miles straight-line from hotel/stadium coordinates; allow around 0.8 miles and 15-18 minutes on the practical walking route.

The trade-off

The stadium walk is longer than Park Inn and much longer than Queensgate.

WHY STAY HERE?

The Bull Hotel; Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western

Westgate / city centre

Our view

The strongest pick if the football trip includes a proper city-centre evening. The Bull is on Westgate at the heart of Peterborough's central entertainment and shopping district, within an easy walk of Broadway, Cathedral Square and the station. It also has more character than the modern chains. The trade-off is a longer walk to the ground than Park Inn and a building where room finish can be uneven because some areas are older.

Why it suits this trip

  • Best of the primary choices for being immediately in the city-centre food, pub and late-evening area.
  • Broadway, identified by local tourism material as Peterborough's nightlife area, is close by.
  • Still comfortably walkable to Weston Homes Stadium for most supporters.
  • Current Booking.com location score is strong and overall guest feedback remains positive.
  • Free secure resident parking and an on-site bar/restaurant are useful for an overnight match trip.
  • Verified as currently bookable through Booking.com.

Getting to the ground

Approximately 0.68 miles straight-line from hotel/stadium coordinates; allow around 0.8 miles and 15-18 minutes on the practical walking route.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel's own site places it in the heart of Peterborough's entertainment district. Broadway's late-evening venues are close, while Cathedral Square and central restaurants are also within the same compact walking area.

Arriving by train

The hotel describes the station as only a few minutes away through/around Queensgate; recent guest feedback puts the walk nearer 15 minutes. Allow roughly 8-15 minutes depending on route, shopping-centre access and luggage.

The trade-offs

  • The stadium walk is longer than Park Inn and much longer than Queensgate.
  • Recent reviews include comments that some bedrooms/public areas feel dated.
  • The historic building has no lift; guests needing step-free room access should request a ground-floor room.
  • Car-park access is from Fitzwilliam Street and using the wrong approach can take drivers into a restricted-traffic area.
  • Functions can create occasional bar or late-evening noise.

Research price context

Very stable in the sample: roughly £117-£126 midweek, averaging about £125, and about £95-£105 on non-home-match weekends, averaging about £100. The sample showed a weekend discount rather than a premium.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Weston Homes Stadium

The ground

Cambridge United at Peterborough United

A compact, visibly pieced-together lower-league ground: old and new stands sit beside one another, the London Road End remains rail-seated home territory, and the older Main Stand preserves some of the quirks that newer bowls erase. Commercial naming has changed, but “London Road” remains the historical anchor.

Views from the away section

Some older main-stand seats have pillars and tighter legroom; other areas are clearer.

Why the ground matters

Football at London Road predates Peterborough United by decades. The club has occupied it since formation, supporters funded post-war development and consultation protected the traditional home end in 2026.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Cambridge United at Peterborough United

Compact footprint can create lively noise.

“Up The Posh”

A documented greeting from the club’s 1934 Midland League debut and still visible in supporter language.

Posh/Boro terrace language

Supporter interpretation

Recorded chant catalogues include titles such as “It’s Posh We Are”, “Boro Till I Die” and “We Love You Boro”. These are evidence of terrace vocabulary, not a claim that every chant is current at every match.

Mr Posh leads the team out / appears on matchdays

The top-hatted, monocled gentleman character has existed in multiple incarnations since at least the mid-1940s. Mick Jones has held the role since 1991 and is still listed by the club.

The London Road End as the home end

More than a seating choice: the 2026 consultation showed that its location carries routine and inherited memory for supporters.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Weston Homes Stadium

Food & drink

Cambridge United at Peterborough United

Peterborough is an easy rail away day if you leave time for the last stretch: meet near Peterborough station at Drapers on Cowgate, then head through the centre towards Town Bridge and London Road. Allow around 15–20 minutes to the Weston Homes Stadium, longer with a pub stop. Charters, the Dutch barge beside the bridge, is the established away gathering place; it gets busy, and occasional early openings are fixture-specific.

Food and drink around the ground

The Peacock across London Road is another documented mixed-fans choice. Woodston has better traditional ale pubs but takes you away from the main station route, and the Palmerston usually does not open until 2pm on Saturdays. For food, the Shed at Fletton Quays, East above Charters and the riverside pizza kitchen make strong alternatives to a rushed concourse pie; Fletton Fish & Chips requires an early lunch visit.

The stadium has separate away catering and usually a mixed fanzone, but allocations, admission and queues can vary. Staying overnight? Choose the station/Cowgate area for rail or Fletton Avenue for the ground.

Charters Bar

The dependable away-day pub is the Dutch barge under Town Bridge, with a big riverside garden and real ale. It is the closest well-supported meeting point for groups approaching from town.

It is a manageable town-centre walk, so you normally do not need a taxi. Leave the station towards Bourges Boulevard, use the pedestrian underpass by the large roundabout and continue past ASDA. Turn towards Town Bridge at the traffic lights, cross the river and follow the stadium signs.

Planning your arrival

Be at the stadium perimeter before the busiest turnstile period.

Station to ground & away entrance

For most league fixtures, visiting supporters enter the away allocation in the Kings Power Solutions Stand. Follow the away-supporter signs and the turnstile information printed on your ticket rather than heading to a home entrance. From Peterborough station or the city centre, cross Town Bridge and approach the ground from London Road.

From Pleasure Fair Meadow or Railworld, follow the marked pedestrian route towards the stadium, then continue round to your allocated entrance. Large away followings may also receive seats in the GH Display Stand. Peterborough has confirmed that this arrangement changes with demand, so your fixture ticket is the final guide to the correct turnstiles.

Buses & local travel

The walk from Peterborough station is usually easier than taking a bus, but buses are available if you prefer not to cover the distance on foot. Peterborough United lists routes 1, 3, 5, 5A, 6, 31 and 33 as services you can use to reach the ground. Queensgate Bus Station is close to the railway station and city centre.

Check the current operator journey planner for the correct boarding stop and direction, then use a London Road stop convenient for your allocated entrance. After the match, check where your return bus actually stops before leaving the ground. Do not assume every service on the club's general list runs at the same frequency late on a weekday evening.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Weston Homes Stadium

Parking

Cambridge United at Peterborough United

Use Pleasure Fair Meadow rather than searching for a free residential bay. It is a council-run matchday car park opposite the ground. You do not normally need to pre-book, but spaces are unreserved, so arrive in good time. For a weekday evening match, Pleasure Fair Meadow is free after 3pm under the council's scheme running to March 2028. For Saturday or Sunday football, budget £6.20 for up to 24 hours.

Parking & park-and-ride

The car park has 316 spaces, and visiting guides put the stadium about five minutes away. Allow longer to reach your actual away entrance. We could not confirm a named unrestricted street suitable for a full match. London Road, Glebe Road, Fairfield Road and Fletton Avenue have residents' bays, while parts of Oundle Road are also permit-controlled. A parking space that looks empty is not necessarily available to visiting supporters.

If the nearest car park fills, try the authorised Railworld matchday car park, which takes payment on arrival, or council-operated Railway Sidings on Bittern Way. Railway Sidings costs £6.20 for up to 13 hours at weekends. Railworld has not published a current football-parking price, so check the entrance information. Allow four to five hours for parking, the walk, the match and getting away.

Rivergate's ASDA surface car park has a four-hour maximum, and football-use permission was not confirmed. Its multi-storey advertises free weekend parking, but matchday permission and later access also need checking. For bigger fixtures, use your chosen paid backup rather than circling residential roads close to kick-off.

Parking verdict
Free council parking is realistic for weekday evening fixtures after 3pm; otherwise use authorised pay-on-day match parking. No named free on-street bay is verified.

Coaches

Away coaches

Visiting coaches should use the designated matchday coach parking at Pleasure Fair Meadow, opposite the stadium on Oundle Road. Peterborough City Council lists a £26 charge for football coaches on United home-match days.

The club also identifies the Railworld area as an option for coach operators. Arrange the exact arrival, unloading and collection position with your coach organiser before travelling, rather than assuming the vehicle can pull up at the away turnstiles.

From the Oundle Road parking area, supporters reach the stadium on foot using the pedestrian route. Stay with your organiser's instructions after full-time because the final collection point may depend on the fixture and local traffic management.

The club has a limited number of Blue Badge spaces for home and away supporters, priced at £10 and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the ticket office on 01733 865674.

The club also identifies accessible drop-off points and Blue Badge parking at Pleasure Fair Meadow, where the council's normal car-park tariff applies. Peterborough railway station has step-free access to all platforms, but you should confirm the route and facilities for your particular stand.

After the match

If you parked at Pleasure Fair Meadow, expect the surrounding London Road and Town Bridge approaches to be busy after full-time. Walk back using the pedestrian route you used on arrival and allow extra time before joining outbound traffic.

For a train, return over Town Bridge, pass the city-centre ASDA area and use the pedestrian underpass towards Peterborough station. Do not book a tight connection on the assumption that you can leave your seat, cross the bridge and board immediately.

If a coach is collecting you, follow the organiser's confirmed meeting point at Pleasure Fair Meadow or Railworld. Any temporary traffic arrangements or a changed away allocation can affect where the group meets.

Where to stay

Stay around Peterborough railway station, Rivergate or Cathedral Square if you want to make a night of the football. These areas keep the mainline station, city-centre pubs and restaurants within walking distance, while the ground is an easy walk across Town Bridge.

The Rivergate end of the centre is particularly handy if getting to the stadium matters most. A hotel closer to Queensgate or the railway station is a better fit for an early train the following morning.

There is little need to stay beside London Road unless you prioritise the shortest possible walk to the match. Compare live room prices on your exact fixture date rather than assuming a standard Saturday rate.

AWAY-DAY OVERVIEW

Before you head to the ground

Peterborough is an easy rail away day if you leave time for the last stretch: meet near Peterborough station at Drapers on Cowgate, then head through the centre towards Town Bridge and London Road.

Read full overview Hide full overview

Peterborough is an easy rail away day if you leave time for the last stretch: meet near Peterborough station at Drapers on Cowgate, then head through the centre towards Town Bridge and London Road. Allow around 15–20 minutes to the Weston Homes Stadium, longer with a pub stop. Charters, the Dutch barge beside the bridge, is the established away gathering place; it gets busy, and occasional early openings are fixture-specific.

🍺 Pre-matchCharters Bar🚉 From the stationBumble Inn
PUB / BAR

Bumble Inn

46 Westgate, Peterborough PE1 1RE
Away access: check
BEST FORale-lovers · small-groups · station-area
MATCHDAY INTELA compact independent micropub for supporters who value beer over televised football. Its Westgate position suits an early station-side drink, with Nepalese food available by arrangement from next door.
WORTH KNOWINGSmall capacity makes it poor for a large away following; there is no published football-colours admission policy.
PUB / BAR

The Ostrich Inn

17 North Street, Peterborough PE1 2RA
Away access: check
BEST FORsmall-groups · station-area · ale
MATCHDAY INTELAn independent ale stop close to the station, with local beers, a shaded back courtyard and regular live music. Worth considering for a quieter early meet before following the river route to the match.
WORTH KNOWINGNo verified away-colours policy and weekend music can alter the atmosphere. CAMRA lists noon Saturday and Sunday opening.
PUB / BAR

The Wonky Donkey

102C High Street, Fletton, Peterborough PE2 8DR
Away access: check
BEST FORFletton · ale-lovers · small-groups
MATCHDAY INTELA proper local micropub rather than a big matchday drinking barn. Its small rooms and locally brewed beers suit supporters already on the Fletton side who have plenty of time.
WORTH KNOWINGThere is no confirmed away-admission rule. Saturday opening is noon, but weekday opening is 3pm; pop-up food is not a dependable pre-match meal.
PUB / BAR

Charters Bar

Lower Deck, Town Bridge, Peterborough PE1 1FP
5 min walkAway access: check
BEST FORaway-followings · groups · real-ale
MATCHDAY INTELThe dependable away-day pub is the Dutch barge under Town Bridge, with a big riverside garden and real ale. It is the closest well-supported meeting point for groups approaching from town.
WORTH KNOWINGNormal opening is noon.
PUB / BAR

The Palmerston Arms

82 Oundle Road, Woodston, Peterborough PE2 9PA
15 min walkAway access: check
BEST FORale-lovers · Woodston-route
MATCHDAY INTELFor a proper real-ale pint rather than a boisterous sports bar, Batemans itself describes the Palmerston as away-fan friendly. It is a useful Woodston stop for supporters willing to walk in from Oundle Road.
WORTH KNOWINGPublished Saturday opening is 2pm, so it gives little drinking time before a 3pm kick-off. The food section does not confirm a cooked menu.
PUB / BAR

Peterborough United Posh Fanzone

Weston Homes Stadium, London Road, Peterborough PE2 8AL
Away access: check
BEST FORlate-arrivals · families · near-turnstiles
MATCHDAY INTELThe club’s heated, covered outdoor fanzone opens ahead of matches and is usually shared by home and away supporters. It is the simplest option once you have reached London Road.
WORTH KNOWINGThe club says mixed access applies for most, not all, fixtures. The separate away-supporter fanzone and exact food counters must not be confused with the home-side fan area.
PUB / BAR

The Draper’s Arms

29–31 Cowgate, Peterborough PE1 1LZ
Away access: check
BEST FORrail-arrivals · breakfast · groups
MATCHDAY INTELThe best choice for an early pint or breakfast before walking down to the river.
WORTH KNOWINGAway access can be controlled by capacity and age policies. A January 2026 visiting fan reported a dispute involving a 16-year-old sitting with drinkers.
PUB / BAR

Yard of Ale

72 Oundle Road, Woodston, Peterborough PE2 9PA
Away access: check
BEST FORfootball-on-TV · ale · Woodston-route
MATCHDAY INTELA livelier Woodston alternative with televised football, a garden, locally recognised beer and seasonal wood-fired pizza. CAMRA named it the Peterborough branch pub of 2026.
WORTH KNOWINGAway admission is described in older supporter guides, not a current operator policy. Pizza runs seasonally and should not be promised at every match.
PUB / BAR

The Peacock

26 London Road, Peterborough PE2 8AR
Away access: check
BEST FORground-side-pint · midweek-after-5pm
MATCHDAY INTELThe most straightforward pub by the ground if you are approaching from London Road. Colchester’s September 2026 away information says home and away supporters are accepted.
WORTH KNOWINGCAMRA shows Saturday opening at noon but midweek opening from 5pm and no Monday or Tuesday service. Food menu and colours policy need direct checks.
PUB / BAR

Coalheavers Arms

5 Park Street, Woodston, Peterborough PE2 9BH
Away access: check
BEST FORsmall-groups · Woodston · ale
MATCHDAY INTELA small traditional free house known for cask ale and a garden. Older visiting-supporter guides describe mixed home-and-away custom, while local CAMRA specifically notes food on matchdays.
WORTH KNOWINGCan be busy and food is not a fixed published menu. Opens noon Saturdays and Sundays, but normally 3pm Monday–Thursday.

What to eatPosh Dog, steak-and-ale pie, chicken Balti pie, vegan pie and sausage roll; official published items £5 each.

WORTH KNOWINGThe ground is cashless; not every kiosk has alcohol. A January 2026 visiting fan reported poor food and restricted early service, so check the opening of your own stand.
FOOD
