What this club is really about
Burton Albion makes most sense at the scale of Burton itself. The Brewers name is not decorative: football in the town grew alongside an industrial brewing culture whose Bass Charity Vase connected beer money, civic giving and the game decades before Albion existed. The modern club was voted into being at the Town Hall in 1950, played at a ground whose site was bought by its supporters' club, spent most of its life outside the Football League and then climbed from non-league to the Championship without moving far from its old patch. The result is a club whose biggest story is not one trophy or one famous player, but the mismatch between its modest physical scale and where it has managed to play.
