WHERE TO STAY
Where should Burnley fans stay?
Start with our all-round pick, choose a ground-first base, or stay where the pubs and evening are.
Match night · 2 guests · 1 room

Novotel London Greenwich
Greenwich station / Greenwich High Road
The best all-round choice for a Charlton overnight trip. It is beside Greenwich station, so the match leg is simple, while central Greenwich's pubs and food are still walkable. It is not the closest hotel and recent room-condition feedback is mixed, but the combination of reliable transport, proper hotel facilities, Booking.com coverage and generally sensible pricing makes it the strongest compromise.
- Greenwich station is effectively next door, keeping the direct rail leg to Charlton straightforward.
- Better post-match pub and food choice than staying in the immediate Valley area.
Approximate full walking distance/time; walking the whole way is not the reason to stay here. The practical match route is Greenwich station to Charlton by direct train, then the short walk to The Valley.
Not walk-to-the-ground convenient; the rail leg is part of the recommendation.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.

The Angerstein Hotel
Westcombe Park / east Greenwich
The ground-first choice. The Angerstein is a small pub hotel on Woolwich Road and is materially closer to The Valley than the central Greenwich hotels, making a walk to the match realistic. It also has a football-friendly pub atmosphere and is usually cheaper. The trade-off is a more basic stay, less choice after the pub itself, stairs-only upper floors and room inventory that includes shared-bathroom options.
- The closest practical researched hotel for supporters who want to walk to The Valley.
- Usually the cheapest of the three primary recommendations in the sampled dates.
Approximate practical walking figure. The route is relatively short but includes busy-road/railway infrastructure, so it feels less pleasant than the mileage alone suggests. Still the strongest primary option for walking to The Valley.
A pub hotel rather than a full-service chain; expect a simpler room product.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.

The Mitre by Innkeeper's Collection
Maritime Greenwich / Greenwich town centre
The strongest choice when the night after the match matters as much as the match itself. The Mitre puts you in the middle of Greenwich's pub, restaurant and market area and gives you a good pub downstairs. Its recent review profile is stronger than the Novotel's, but it costs more, is farther from the ground and has a less doorstep-simple rail connection than the Novotel.
- Best doorstep access of the primary choices to Greenwich's pub and food cluster.
- The pub downstairs means the evening can continue without another journey.
Approximate full walking distance/time. The sensible match route is to walk to Greenwich station, take the short direct train to Charlton and then walk to The Valley.
Normally dearer than the other primary picks in the sampled dates.

Travel & parking

Parking
Driving & road restrictions
Set your sat-nav to your chosen booked space rather than The Valley's SE7 8BL postcode. The A206 Woolwich Road is a useful approach, but Floyd Road, Harvey Gardens and Valley Grove can close shortly before kick-off. Arriving near the ground without parking arranged can leave you circling permit bays as the roads shut.
Check your vehicle's ULEZ status before entering London: a non-compliant car normally incurs a £12.50 daily charge. If you travel through the Blackwall or Silvertown tunnels, check their separate charging rules as well. London roadworks and event-day diversions vary, so review the final route before setting off.
- Ground sat-nav postcode
- SE7 8BL; use booked parking address instead
- Temporary matchday road closures
- Floyd Road, Harvey Gardens and Valley Grove; approximate start 45 minutes before kick-off with fixture variation
- London ULEZ
- London-wide, 24/7 except Christmas Day; £12.50 daily for non-compliant eligible cars
- Blackwall and Silvertown tunnel charging
- Separate road-user charges apply 06:00–22:00 except Christmas Day; check chosen route
- Congestion Charge zone
- Not the same as London-wide ULEZ; only relevant if the route enters the central charging zone
Parking & park-and-ride
Book an authorised parking space for a Saturday afternoon at The Valley if you need a predictable arrival. Most nearby streets fall within Greenwich parking zones operating 9am–6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Many shared-use bays allow only two hours, and the ground's access roads close before kick-off.
The simplest paid choice is a pre-booked driveway or car park through Charlton's JustPark matchday partner. An authorised longer-stay booking at Asda Charlton, Bugsby's Way, is another option. Register the correct number plate and book enough time for the match, the walks and any delays.
Free parking is possible farther away, but there is no named bay I can certify as unrestricted throughout a match. Charlton Supporters' Trust points to Canberra Road, Charlton Park Lane, Hornfair Road and Marlborough Lane south of Charlton Park. It also suggests the river ends of Eastmoor Street and Westmoor Street. Check the actual signs and yellow lines before leaving your vehicle.
For a fallback that avoids residential streets, arrange a private space before travelling. Parking in Greenwich followed by a train to Charlton also works, provided the car park allows a long enough stay. Thames Barrier visitor parking closes at 5pm and is unsuitable for most afternoon fixtures.
Aim to be parked 60–90 minutes before kick-off and allow roughly four to five hours overall. Sunday and later evening kick-offs fall outside the normal controlled-zone hours, but most bank-holiday Mondays do not. Yellow lines still apply. Do not use ordinary Asda customer parking or IKEA's five-hour customer allowance as permission to leave a car for football.
- Parking verdict
- Booking advisable for Saturday daytime; free roadside parking possible farther out but no current signed full-stay bay conclusively certified
- Free option — south of Charlton Park
- Canberra Road, Charlton Park Lane, Hornfair Road and Marlborough Lane suggested as outside CPZ by supporters trust in 2024; no 2026 bay-by-bay legal confirmation
- Matchday availability — south of Charlton Park
- Supporter recommendation repeated in September 2025 but no guaranteed spaces, counts or arrival time
- Walk — south of Charlton Park
- Longer approach than Charlton station; no verified exact legal-bay-to-Jimmy-Seed walking time
- Arrive by — south of Charlton Park
- Aim to reach any eligible bay well before kick-off; no exact space-availability cutoff verified
- Free option — riverside streets
- River ends of Westmoor Street and Eastmoor Street, and Holgate Street, reported free in 2024; verify current bay signs and yellows
- Matchday availability — riverside streets
- Older visiting guides describe free parking but pressure and yellow-line exceptions; current supply unconfirmed
- Walk — riverside streets
- Independent guide estimates 10–15 minutes to ground, not precisely to away entrance; subject to chosen legal bay
- Legal restrictions — Charlton CPZ C
- Monday–Saturday 09:00–18:30; many marked bays are permit/shared-use or limited to two hours; separate yellow lines may apply
- Legal restrictions — Charlton Station CPZ CS
- Monday–Saturday 09:00–18:30; two-hour shared-use restrictions and double yellow lines within designated lengths
- Sunday and evening difference
- Normal CPZ controls do not operate on Sunday or after 18:30, but other parking restrictions can continue
- Bank holiday restrictions
- Council names 25 December, 26 December and 1 January as days parking permits are not needed; other bank holidays are not generally exempt when they fall on a controlled weekday
- Paid fallback — Charlton JustPark
- Pre-booked private driveway or off-street space, fixture-specific availability and price; current club-approved matchday partnership
- Paid fallback — Asda Charlton
- Separately authorised 24/7 JustPark product on Bugsby Way SE7 7ST; plate registration required and reservation parking conditions apply
- Paid fallback — Park Row Greenwich
- Public car park at 25 Park Row SE10 9NL listed 24 hours, with published day tariff subject to change; take train from Greenwich to Charlton
- Excluded fallback — Thames Barrier
- Visitor car parks open 09:00–17:00; cannot cover the full stay for a normal 15:00 football kick-off
- Booking recommendation
- Book an authorised four-to-five-hour space in advance; confirms right to use that product subject to booking conditions, not empty roads
- Supermarket permission/time limit
- Asda ordinary customer parking: football permission and exact customer limit not established; 24/7 JustPark space is a separate permitted product
- Retail parking — IKEA Greenwich
- Free store-customer parking maximum five hours; not established as permission for stadium users, so do not use casually
- Total dwell time
- Allow around four to five hours for parking, outward walk, arrival, 90-minute game plus interval/stoppage, return and dispersal; extra for cup extra time
- After the match
- Expect queues around Charlton station and constricted stadium streets; wait for steward directions and allow a buffer

Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Charlton railway station for The Valley. It is roughly seven minutes' walk from the ground, with trains from London Bridge and other central London terminals. The station has lifts and step-free access to both platforms, although you should check engineering work and the return service for your fixture.
If you are arriving on the Elizabeth line, use Woolwich and continue by bus or a connecting train. North Greenwich on the Jubilee line is another useful approach, with onward buses to Charlton. Westcombe Park is a possible rail alternative, but its step-free route between platforms involves an outside detour; Woolwich Dockyard has no step-free London-bound platform.
- Recommended station
- Charlton, approximately seven minutes on foot from The Valley
- Charlton services
- Trains include London Bridge, Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Dartford and Gillingham corridors; check chosen service
- Charlton step-free status
- National Rail category B2, step-free access to both platforms with lifts
- Elizabeth line alternative
- Woolwich then onward bus or rail to Charlton; do not confuse with Woolwich Dockyard
- Jubilee line alternative
- North Greenwich then local bus to Charlton
- Westcombe Park accessibility
- Category B2; step-free access to both platforms but no direct step-free interchange, external road route required
- Woolwich Dockyard accessibility
- Category B3; no step-free access to London-bound Platform 1
Station to ground & away entrance
Head for the Jimmy Seed Stand, the usual visiting-supporter end of The Valley. From Charlton station, cross Charlton Church Lane and follow Floyd Road towards the ground, then use the signs and stewards to reach the Valley Grove side of the away stand. Do not assume the home ticket-office entrance is the correct approach for your ticket.
The club opens turnstiles around 90 minutes before kick-off. Allow extra time to get through if you arrive close to the pre-match road closures, which affect Valley Grove, Floyd Road and Harvey Gardens. Away accessible drop-off is normally arranged at Entrance 4 on Valley Grove, subject to matchday stewarding.
- Away stand
- Jimmy Seed Stand, at the southern/Valley Grove end of The Valley
- Away pedestrian approach
- From Charlton station via Charlton Church Lane and Floyd Road, towards the Jimmy Seed and Valley Grove side; follow matchday wayfinding
- Away accessible entrance and drop-off
- Entrance 4, Valley Grove; steward-directed and subject to road closures
- Ground postcode
- SE7 8BL
- Turnstile opening
- Around 90 minutes before kick-off
- Prematch closures
- Floyd Road, Harvey Gardens and Valley Grove were listed for the August 2026 fixture; confirm timing for your match

Coaches
Away coaches
Travel on your visiting club's official coach if you want the simplest organised arrival. Older visiting-supporter accounts describe coaches close to the Jimmy Seed Stand, but other historical directions place coach parking on Bugsby's Way or Anchor and Hope Lane. These are not a confirmed 2026/27 instruction, so use the drop-off and collection details supplied by your organiser.
If you are arranging a private coach, contact the visiting club and Charlton in advance for an approved location. Do not treat Valley Grove as a freely accessible coach stop during matchday closures. Make sure everybody knows where to meet after full-time, as police and stewards can direct away supporters along a different route at busy fixtures.
- Historic visiting-coach arrangement
- 2021 Doncaster guide reports supporter coaches parked immediately outside the away end; not confirmed for 2026/27
- Alternative historical coach parking directions
- Older Rams Fans directions name Bugsbys Way / Anchor and Hope Lane; not confirmed as current allocation
- Recommended coach instruction
- Follow visiting club coach ticket and stewards for approved drop-off, parking and collection; avoid making an unsanctioned roadside stop
- Away end for coach passengers
- Jimmy Seed Stand reached via the Valley Grove side
- Post-match supporter-flow changes
- Potential police/steward route changes at higher-risk fixtures; January 2026 away-flow difficulties reported
Buses
Buses & local travel
For a bus from North Greenwich, use one of the routes serving the Woolwich Road and Charlton Station stops. Charlton's 2026/27 guide lists the SL11, 486, 161, 177, 180 and 380 near The Valley, with some providing the North Greenwich connection. Get off around Charlton station or the appropriate nearby stop and follow the short walk to the away end.
From Woolwich, local bus connections are available, but check the direction and stop before boarding. The club does not advertise a dedicated away-supporter shuttle for ordinary league fixtures. Road closures before kick-off can change traffic flow, so allow time for the return bus and check TfL on the day.
- Bus routes near ground
- SL11, 486, 161, 177, 180 and 380, per 2026/27 club guide
- North Greenwich interchange
- Jubilee line to North Greenwich then a suitable bus towards Charlton
- Woolwich interchange
- Elizabeth line to Woolwich then local bus connection
- Charlton Station / Woolwich Road stop
- Bus links serve the Woolwich Road corridor near the railway station
Accessibility
Accessible journeys
Arrange accessible tickets and parking through your visiting club and Charlton before travel. The club accepts parking requests at disability.parking@cafc.co.uk, while Level Playing Field reports two complimentary visiting spaces coordinated through the away disability liaison officer. Parking and wheelchair places are limited, so a Blue Badge alone does not secure admission.
Charlton station has lifts and step-free access to both platforms. The usual accessible drop-off for the Jimmy Seed Stand is Entrance 4 on Valley Grove, but the road closes near kick-off. Confirm the permitted arrival time and route with the club; some visiting wheelchair users have reported poor views when spectators stand in front.
- Accessible parking contact
- disability.parking@cafc.co.uk; arrange before travelling
- Away accessible parking allocation
- Two complimentary spaces reported by Level Playing Field, coordinated via away DLO; confirm available for fixture
- Jimmy Seed accessible drop-off
- Valley Grove Entrance 4, steward controlled; older LPF guidance advises advance arrival before closures
- Charlton station step-free
- Category B2, lifts and step-free access to both platforms
- Club disability liaison email
- dlo@cafc.co.uk for temporary mobility restrictions; tickets@cafc.co.uk for ticketing
- Accessible headsets
- Matchday commentary headsets available first come, first served, arrange with DLO
- Away wheelchair view limitation
- Some disabled visiting fans report obstructed near-goal sightlines when supporters stand
After the match
After the match
For the fastest public-transport return, follow the signed route from the Jimmy Seed Stand back to Charlton station and leave enough time for a busy platform. Do not assume a short walk means you can safely catch a train immediately after the whistle. Check engineering work and any police-controlled supporter route before the match.
If you drive, expect restricted streets and slow movement near Floyd Road and Valley Grove while crowds disperse. A booked space farther from the stadium may be easier to reach than one beside the away gate. Some higher-profile fixtures have involved additional police crowd management, so follow stewards rather than taking unfamiliar cut-throughs.
- Closest rail return
- Charlton station, about seven minutes to ground before post-match crowd delays
- Matchday road access
- Local streets shut shortly before kick-off and later reopen; road conditions after full time vary
- Away crowd management
- January 2026 Chelsea cup-tie away-supporter release raised concerns over route direction and prolonged holds; not universal fixture practice
- Parking exit conditions
- Residential and arterial-road congestion can delay getting away; no guaranteed faster specific parking site
Where to stay
Stay in Greenwich if you want a proper away weekend with a choice of pubs, restaurants and hotels. Greenwich railway station gives you an easy onward journey to Charlton, leaving the immediate stadium neighbourhood for the match rather than for your whole evening. Allow time to get back through any post-match crowds.
For the shortest football journey, Charlton or the nearby Woolwich Road side can work if you find suitable accommodation. The trade-off is a much smaller choice of hotels and places to go afterwards. If you are arriving through London Bridge, a central-London base can also suit, provided your return train times work.
- Suggested overnight base
- Greenwich around Greenwich station and the town centre for food, hotels and rail access
- Near-ground alternative
- Charlton area for the shortest stadium approach but fewer leisure options
- Rail-oriented alternative
- London Bridge and onward direct train to Charlton

Charlton is easiest if you avoid treating Charlton station as a pub destination. The station is only about three minutes from The Valley and visiting supporters are in the Jimmy Seed Stand, but several old away-day favourites nearby have closed or become home-oriented. For rail groups coming through central London, London Bridge and Borough Market remain the sensible meeting point before the short onward train. Closer to the ground, the Angerstein Hotel is the best-supported modern away pub, with the River Ale House a smaller, genuinely mixed alternative; North Greenwich and The Pilot work well for Jubilee-line arrivals and overnight stays. Food is better planned separately: Valley Cafe and Charlton Kebab House suit quick arrivals by Charlton station, Inihaw and Kesar offer proper meals, while Greenwich gives you Goddards pie and mash and the market before travelling on. The Jimmy Seed concourse has hot food, but high-risk fixtures can bring special policing, pub restrictions and station routing.

Food & quick bites
Where to grab a bite, have a proper meal or try the local matchday favourite.
Charlton Kebab House
A no-nonsense station-side feed for supporters who want something hot without sacrificing much pre-match time. The current menu is broad enough for individuals or a sharing order.
Inihaw Charlton
The most distinctive sit-down food option in Charlton Village. It suits supporters who have deliberately set aside time for a Filipino meal, with a menu more interesting than standard pre-match pub food.
Goddards at Greenwich
If you want a proper London food experience rather than anonymous stadium fare, go for pie and mash here. It is particularly useful for supporters based in Greenwich overnight or meeting friends before travelling on.
Jimmy Seed Stand Concourse
The simplest fallback for supporters heading straight to their seats. You can buy hot food in the away concourse without leaving the ground, but it is not a substitute for a more varied meal in Charlton or Greenwich.
Greenwich Market food stalls
Best when a travelling group wants different foods and nobody wants to sit through a long restaurant order. Choose a stall that is operating on the day, eat in Greenwich, then continue by rail to Charlton.
Addis Taste at Greenwich Market
A useful named stall for supporters who want something distinctive from Greenwich Market. It is worth seeking out for Ethiopian and Eritrean flavours, although its published trading days do not cover every day of the week.
Cutty Sark Street Food Market
A good outdoor choice for supporters making a full day of Greenwich, especially a family or group wanting to pick separate dishes. Do not confuse the seasonal Cutty Sark stalls with the permanent main market.
Greenwich Grind
Choose Grind for a more relaxed breakfast with a proper table, or use the earlier grab-and-go counter if you want a quick coffee before heading to Charlton station.
The Valley Cafe
A sensible first stop for supporters arriving by train who would rather have breakfast than a pie inside the ground. It is close enough to Charlton station to keep the final walk straightforward.
Charlton Kebab House
Choose this for a substantial hot takeaway without heading up to Charlton Village or back into Greenwich. The broad kebab-and-chips menu also works for a mixed group, provided everyone allows preparation time.
The Reggae Shack
A worthwhile choice when you want a proper Caribbean meal just off the stadium approach rather than another burger. Main-and-sides combinations are useful for hungry supporters and takeaway should suit a less leisurely visit.
Frilly’s Tea Room at Charlton House
A characterful café for a relaxed morning, particularly with family members who are not rushing straight from a train. Charlton House makes it a more memorable stop than a conventional high-street café.
Alhaji Suya Greenwich
For something different before or after football, seek out the Nigerian suya and rice dishes rather than standard fast food. There is an important address discrepancy between the business’s own pages, so verify the serving counter first.
