BEFORE YOU SET OFF
Put your trip together
01 · Arrive
Your route into The Hawthorns
Head for the Smethwick End, not the home turnstiles, when you reach The Hawthorns. Visiting supporters are normally housed on the East Stand side of that end. From the nearby railway and tram stops, follow the signed pedestrian route around the ground and check the entrance printed on your ticket. The club gives the away entrance the what3words address ///bride.wiping.dame. If you arrive by official away coach, stewards direct you from Middlemore Road up to the away end; the access ramp can be steep, so arrange assistance before travelling if needed.
02 · Before the match
West Bromwich Albion Fan Zone
0-minute walk to the ground. Recent official daytime match packs advertise food and drink; the exact trader and menu mix changes by fixture. Night fixtures were repeatedly run without the Fan Zone in 2025/26. Check the current match pack; hours, entertainment and food offers can change.
03 · Stay or head home?
Choose your base before your hotel
Stay in central Birmingham if you want a straightforward rail arrival and more choice after the match. Around New Street and the Jewellery Quarter you can reach Grand Central or a central Metro stop for a direct trip to The Hawthorns.

Good for no-detour pre-match stop · families
When it runs, this is the easiest no-detour option beside the stadium: recent official daytime match packs admitted both clubs with a valid ticket, with food, drink and family activities before kick-off.

How it works
outdoor ticketed matchday fan zone
Greggs car park, Birmingham Road / Halfords Lane corner, The Hawthorns, West Bromwich, B71 4LF
Good for late arrivals · supporters avoiding pub restrictions
For late arrivals, the Smethwick End has current confirmed hot-food and drink provision, with card-only payment. 2026/27 reporting and a current Footy Scran mirror both point to chicken tikka and fries at £8.50.
Expect inside ground · convenient · late arrival
Before you go Outside food is prohibited. Exact availability can rotate or sell out, so treat the tikka-and-fries price as current-season evidence rather than a permanent tariff.
Food & drink
Current official away guidance confirms pies, pasties, burgers, pizza, hot dogs, chips and drinks. 2026/27 reporting adds chicken tikka and fries as an all-stands item.

Smethwick End exterior Greek street-food concession
0 min walk
Good for food immediately before entering the away end · supporters short on time
Current 2026/27 matchday reporting puts a Greek street-food unit immediately outside the away section, making it the most relevant pre-turnstile food lead for Smethwick End visitors.
Expect street food · away end · quick service

Greek street food is the current-season offer reported for the exterior away-end unit; a fixed operator and itemised menu were not independently verified.

Where to stay
Stay in central Birmingham if you want a straightforward rail arrival and more choice after the match. Around New Street and the Jewellery Quarter you can reach Grand Central or a central Metro stop for a direct trip to The Hawthorns. It is usually a better all-round base than searching for a hotel immediately beside the stadium. If you are driving and mainly want a short stadium journey, Mercure Birmingham West is an option near the M5 Junction 1 side of West Bromwich. That puts you closer to the ground but farther from central Birmingham's evening choices. Check its own parking terms rather than assuming a hotel car park is available to non-guests on matchday.
Default to central Birmingham unless you specifically want to minimise matchday travel. The Jewellery Quarter/Colmore side of the centre is the best balance for The Hawthorns and the main stations; Brindleyplace/Broad Street is stronger if post-match food and drinks are a priority. Choose the Mercure by the ground when walking to the match and lower typical rates outweigh nightlife.
For the evening
Broad Street and Brindleyplace are the clearest supporter-friendly evening base, with dense bars, restaurants and canalside venues. The Metro runs through Brindleyplace and on towards The Hawthorns, which makes the area much more practical for football than its city-centre distance suggests.
For the train
Long-distance arrivals usually come through Birmingham New Street. The club also points visitors towards Snow Hill for local rail/Metro, while the current Metro network runs through central stops including Grand Central, St Chads, St Paul's and Brindleyplace before reaching The Hawthorns.
