Plan a stay at Watford ↗For the away end, head for the Vicarage Road Stand on Vicarage Road. Visiting supporters have traditionally entered through turnstiles 15–20, but follow the number on your match ticket and the stewards' signs in case arrangements change. From Watford Junction, walk down Clarendon Road into the High Street, then follow Market Street towards Vicarage Road. From Watford High Street station, walk north along the High Street and use Market Street to reach the stadium. Allow extra time for the final approach and ticket checks. The section of Vicarage Road beside the stadium closes to vehicles around matches. It remains a pedestrian approach, but do not plan a taxi collection immediately outside the away turnstiles.
Watford FC – Vicarage Road ground guide ↗If you have parked at Church or Gade, walk back into the town centre rather than arranging a pick-up beside the away turnstiles. Watford says the closed stretch of Vicarage Road is reopened only when crowd safety allows and visiting coaches have left. The exact time changes by fixture. For rail, leave enough time to walk back to Watford High Street or Watford Junction and get through the station. Do not assume you will be on a train immediately after the final whistle; check the last connection, particularly after an evening match. If you have a pre-booked school space, follow the operator's exit directions. A short walk to the car does not mean an immediate departure into flowing traffic.
Matchday Guide: Burnley (9 October 2026) ↗Stay in central Watford if you need a hotel for a match at Vicarage Road. Market Street and the southern High Street put you within a manageable walk of the away turnstiles, with pubs and food in the town centre rather than in the stadium's residential streets.

Compare the stay areas →Watford High Street is the closest useful railway station to Vicarage Road, around a 12-minute walk from the ground. It is served by London Overground's Lioness line, including connections from Watford Junction and London Euston. The station has stairs but no step-free access to its platforms.
Watford Junction is the better starting point for most long-distance trains. Allow around 25 minutes to walk through the town centre, or check a bus towards Watford General Hospital. Junction has lifts and step-free access to all platforms.
The Metropolitan line terminates at Watford Underground station, approximately a 20-minute walk away. It can suit some London journeys, although it is not the closest rail stop to the away end.

From Watford Junction, the 321 bus towards Watford Hospital is a useful alternative to walking. Arriva publishes journeys from the station to the hospital, which is beside Vicarage Road. Alight at the hospital stop shown for your service and follow the pedestrian signs to the away end.
Other local buses serve Watford General Hospital, including routes 320 and W1, but their boarding points and matchday departures should be checked before travelling. The hospital is a transport landmark, not a recommended matchday car park.
For the return, check the last suitable bus and railway connection in advance. The road closure, full-time crowds and regular traffic can make a short bus transfer less predictable than the timetable suggests.
Watford Junction is the safest rail starting point if you need step-free platform access. National Rail lists lifts to every platform, while Watford High Street has no step-free access. Arrange Passenger Assist where needed and check your onward journey before leaving the station.
At Vicarage Road, visiting supporters use the away stand's designated accessible entrances. Watford FC Enables identifies access beside turnstiles 15–18 for raised wheelchair positions and beside 23–24 for lower positions. Ask the club to confirm the exact entrance for your ticket, accessible viewing and toilet arrangements.
Accessible parking must be arranged with the club; do not assume general stadium parking is available. Watford also lists a Laurance Haines School shuttle scheme, but access for visiting supporters and spaces for an individual fixture need direct confirmation from disabled.supporters@watfordfc.com.

Stay in central Watford if you need a hotel for a match at Vicarage Road. Market Street and the southern High Street put you within a manageable walk of the away turnstiles, with pubs and food in the town centre rather than in the stadium's residential streets. The Clarendon Road and Watford Junction area suits supporters arriving on longer-distance trains. You will have a longer walk to the match, but a simpler departure by rail and access to the same town-centre facilities. There is no need to stay immediately beside the ground unless you have a particular mobility or schedule requirement. Compare rates for the actual fixture date, especially when other London-area events raise demand.
Away Fan Facilities and Getting to Vicarage Road ↗For the best balance, stay in central Watford. Market Street gives the shortest practical hotel-to-ground walk, while Clarendon Road gives a stronger all-round mix of hotel quality, town-centre food and drink, and easy access to Watford Junction. A supporter arriving by rail can walk from the Junction through the centre to the match and return to the same area afterwards without needing a taxi.
The High Street, The Parade and the wider town centre are the main post-match food-and-drink area, with pubs, bars, restaurants and Watford Market concentrated there; St Albans Road adds further options to the north. Staying centrally makes more sense for an evening out than staying farther out near the M1/A41 hotel belt.
Watford Junction is the main rail arrival point and is about a 20-minute walk from Vicarage Road. Clarendon Road hotels are especially convenient for the station, while Watford High Street is closer to the ground at roughly a 10-minute walk.
About a 13-14 minute walk to Vicarage Road, so it remains a genuine walk-to-the-match hotel rather than a rail-area compromise.
Bear in mind: Not the absolute shortest hotel walk to the ground; Travelodge Watford Central is closer.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-02Close to the High Street, Watford Market, Palace Theatre and the town-centre food-and-drink cluster, making it the strongest base if the evening matters as well as the match.
Watford Junction is roughly an 8-minute walk by independent mapping, while the hotel itself describes the station and the High Street as walkable.

Four-star positioning, 24-hour reception, bar and restaurant make it a more complete overnight option than the budget properties closer to the stadium.
Rates are volatile. The three audited non-match midweeks ranged from about £98 to £177, so it can jump sharply on busy local/London-demand dates.
Parking is not a large private hotel car park; the hotel points guests to discounted parking at nearby Sutton car park.
Recent Tripadvisor reviews include isolated complaints about lift/room noise and mattress comfort, so light sleepers should avoid a room beside the lifts where possible.
Roughly 0.4-0.5 miles and about an 8-minute walk from Vicarage Road.
Bear in mind: A much more basic stay than the Leonardo; this is a budget choice first.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-02Market Street location keeps the hotel in the town-centre food-and-drink zone rather than in a quiet edge-of-town business park.
The hotel states that it has been extensively refurbished and modernised.
Tripadvisor currently shows about 4.1/5 with particularly strong location, cleanliness and value sub-scores.
