Food and restaurants near Vicarage Road

The Oddfellows — Food is advertised for matchday events, but the current core venue site is much clearer on drinks than on a standing food menu. Choose it first for away access and proximity, not for a specific dish.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into Vicarage Road

For the away end, head for the Vicarage Road Stand on Vicarage Road. Visiting supporters have traditionally entered through turnstiles 15–20, but follow the number on your match ticket and the stewards' signs in case arrangements change. From Watford Junction, walk down Clarendon Road into the High Street, then follow Market Street towards Vicarage Road. From Watford High Street station, walk north along the High Street and use Market Street to reach the stadium. Allow extra time for the final approach and ticket checks. The section of Vicarage Road beside the stadium closes to vehicles around matches. It remains a pedestrian approach, but do not plan a taxi collection immediately outside the away turnstiles.

02 · Before the match

The Oddfellows

5-minute walk to the ground. Food is advertised for matchday events, but the current core venue site is much clearer on drinks than on a standing food menu. Choose it first for away access and proximity, not for a specific dish. Large followings can make it one-in-one-out. Away access is clear, but no current venue-published rule explicitly confirms football colours for every fixture.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay in central Watford if you need a hotel for a match at Vicarage Road. Market Street and the southern High Street put you within a manageable walk of the away turnstiles, with pubs and food in the town centre rather than in the stadium's residential streets.

Pub food

The Oddfellows

5 min walk

Good for closest verified away pub · large away following

The default Watford away pub and still the safest recommendation close to the ground. Visiting-club guidance continues to designate it for away supporters, and a West Ham away fanzone was staged here in August 2026.

Expect designated away pub · sports screens · busy matchday pub

Before you go Large followings can make it one-in-one-out. Away access is clear, but no current venue-published rule explicitly confirms football colours for every fixture.

Pub food

Mad Squirrel Watford

8 min walk

Good for beer enthusiasts · proper food with a pint

The strongest all-round alternative to Oddfellows: locally brewed beer, a proper kitchen and an explicit current welcome for supporters of every club. It is close enough to use as a final town-centre stop.

Expect craft beer · mixed home and away · food led

Before you go Saturday opening is noon, so it does not suit very early kick-offs. The venue welcomes away fans, but it does not publish a separate football-colours rule.

Food & drink
Stone-fired pizzas, 6oz smash burgers, wings and sharing plates. The venue also runs a £15 pizza-and-pint lunch offer.

Pub food

The Moon Under Water

12 min walk

Good for Watford Junction arrivals · large groups

The practical town-centre meeting pub for rail arrivals. Recent Watford supporter advice still describes it as mixed home-and-away on matchdays, and it has the capacity and early opening that smaller pubs lack.

Expect large pub · mixed home and away · early opening

Before you go It can become extremely busy. A Luton derby has previously produced disorder outside, so police advice and fixture-specific restrictions matter more here than on a routine league day.

Food & drink
Full Wetherspoon breakfast and pub-food menu from 8am; choose it for capacity, early opening and location rather than local food.

bakery, sandwiches and hot savouries

Wenzel's Watford FC Bakery

2 min walk

Good for last quick bite · families

The easiest food stop beside Vicarage Road: fresh sandwiches, sausage rolls and pizza slices from a bakery that explicitly trades on matchdays. It is ideal when there is no time for a sit-down meal.

Expect ground-side bakery · quick takeaway · matchday atmosphere

Before you go Saturday closing is 6pm and Sunday 5pm, so it works before most games but not as a late post-match option after an evening kick-off.

Food & drink
Fresh sandwiches and baguettes, sausage rolls, pizza slices, doughnuts, muffins and cakes.

Lebanese and Mediterranean

Tarboush

7 min walk

Good for proper pre-match meal · groups

The strongest proper-meal stop on the walk to the ground. Tarboush is close to Vicarage Road, handles groups well and gives supporters a serious Lebanese meal rather than another burger-and-chips fallback.

Expect proper meal · family run · groups

Before you go Booking is sensible for groups, especially on Saturday. It is a restaurant rather than a football venue, so there is no published colours policy.

Food & drink
Chicken tawouk, lamb shish, lamb kofte, chicken and lamb shawarma, mezze, falafel and a £24 sharing set menu for groups of six or more.

Lebanese street food

Lebanese Kitchen - Watford Market

17 min walk

Good for quick independent food · Saturday lunch

A good independent market lunch before the walk to the ground: fresh falafel, kofta and wraps rather than a chain meal. It works especially well for a normal Saturday 3pm kick-off.

Expect market street food · quick lunch · independent

Before you go Normal market hours end at 5pm and Sunday trading is not standard, so this is primarily a daytime fixture option.

Food & drink
Fresh falafel, chicken and lamb kofta, Lebanese rice, halloumi and Mediterranean chicken wraps.

multi-vendor global street food

Hello Watford Food Hall

15 min walk

Good for groups with different tastes · families

The easiest group-food answer in the town centre: one hall with independent traders covering gyros, dosa, ramen, dim sum, pho, Thai and more. It also stays open later than Watford Market.

Expect food hall · independent vendors · group friendly

Before you go The vendor mix can change, so treat the food-hall list as current rather than permanent. It is a food stop, not a football pub.

Food & drink
Current vendors include Dimsum Daily, Greekos Gyros, Watford Dosa, Ramen Hozan, Wicked Pho, Bombay Classic, Thai Street Kitchen and Nepali Momo.

Lebanese and Middle Eastern

Nana's Restaurant & Lounge

28 min walk

Good for overnight supporters · rail arrivals

A good station-area meal for supporters staying over or arriving early: proper Lebanese food, all-halal meat and a three-minute walk from Watford Junction. It is not the quickest route to the ground, but it earns the detour.

Expect proper meal · near Watford Junction · halal

Before you go Closed Sundays. Friday and Saturday evenings can be busy and include entertainment, so book if you need a fixed pre-train or post-match meal time.

Food & drink
Shish taouk, lamb skewers, kafta, chicken shawarma, mixed grill, Lebanese mousaka and vegetarian grills; all meat is halal and the restaurant is BYOB.

129 St Albans Road, Watford WD17 1RA

stadium pies, hot food and soft drinks

Vicarage Road - visiting-supporter concourse

0 min walk

Good for supporters already inside · hot drinks

The fallback once through the away turnstiles: hot food, soft drinks and tea or coffee are available, but the concourse is tight and there is no alcohol. Eat outside if queues matter to you.

Expect away end · cashless · tight concourse

Before you go Visiting-club guidance says no alcohol is sold in the Vicarage Road Stand at any match. A 2026 review also reports a very long wait for a pie.

Food & drink
Food, tea/coffee and soft drinks are confirmed. Watford's 2025/26 catering plan introduced Pukka steak-and-ale, chicken-balti and cheese-leek-and-potato pies stadium-wide, but those exact flavours are not guaranteed at every away kiosk.

WHERE TO STAY

Where should you stay?

Choose a base for the football and the rest of your visit.

Where to stay

Stay in central Watford if you need a hotel for a match at Vicarage Road. Market Street and the southern High Street put you within a manageable walk of the away turnstiles, with pubs and food in the town centre rather than in the stadium's residential streets. The Clarendon Road and Watford Junction area suits supporters arriving on longer-distance trains. You will have a longer walk to the match, but a simpler departure by rail and access to the same town-centre facilities. There is no need to stay immediately beside the ground unless you have a particular mobility or schedule requirement. Compare rates for the actual fixture date, especially when other London-area events raise demand.

Away Fan Facilities and Getting to Vicarage Road ↗

For the best balance, stay in central Watford. Market Street gives the shortest practical hotel-to-ground walk, while Clarendon Road gives a stronger all-round mix of hotel quality, town-centre food and drink, and easy access to Watford Junction. A supporter arriving by rail can walk from the Junction through the centre to the match and return to the same area afterwards without needing a taxi.

For the evening

The High Street, The Parade and the wider town centre are the main post-match food-and-drink area, with pubs, bars, restaurants and Watford Market concentrated there; St Albans Road adds further options to the north. Staying centrally makes more sense for an evening out than staying farther out near the M1/A41 hotel belt.

For the train

Watford Junction is the main rail arrival point and is about a 20-minute walk from Vicarage Road. Clarendon Road hotels are especially convenient for the station, while Watford High Street is closer to the ground at roughly a 10-minute walk.

About a 13-14 minute walk to Vicarage Road, so it remains a genuine walk-to-the-match hotel rather than a rail-area compromise.

Bear in mind: Not the absolute shortest hotel walk to the ground; Travelodge Watford Central is closer.

Close to the High Street, Watford Market, Palace Theatre and the town-centre food-and-drink cluster, making it the strongest base if the evening matters as well as the match.

Watford Junction is roughly an 8-minute walk by independent mapping, while the hotel itself describes the station and the High Street as walkable.

Booking.com currently shows a strong 8.7/10 guest score from more than 5,000 reviews, with particularly high cleanliness, comfort, location and staff scores.

Four-star positioning, 24-hour reception, bar and restaurant make it a more complete overnight option than the budget properties closer to the stadium.

Rates are volatile. The three audited non-match midweeks ranged from about £98 to £177, so it can jump sharply on busy local/London-demand dates.

Parking is not a large private hotel car park; the hotel points guests to discounted parking at nearby Sutton car park.

Recent Tripadvisor reviews include isolated complaints about lift/room noise and mattress comfort, so light sleepers should avoid a room beside the lifts where possible.

    More about this choice

Market Street location keeps the hotel in the town-centre food-and-drink zone rather than in a quiet edge-of-town business park.

The hotel states that it has been extensively refurbished and modernised.

Tripadvisor currently shows about 4.1/5 with particularly strong location, cleanliness and value sub-scores.

Direct Travelodge booking coverage is verified, which is relevant because MatchdayHotels already has a Travelodge affiliate relationship.

Booking.com coverage could not be verified in the sampled Watford searches, so the bookable route is primarily Travelodge direct.

Recent review aggregation flags possible street noise and warm rooms/lack of air conditioning as recurring downsides.

Parking is off-site at Church Street car park, although Travelodge currently advertises a discounted 24-hour tariff for guests.
