fanzone

Vale Park Away Fan Zone

Good for away supporters wanting food or a drink after entering the ground · visitors avoiding uncertain town-centre pub rules

The away fan zone is the most dependable matchday food-and-drink option once visiting supporters enter the Bycars Stand. Recent visiting-club guidance says it sells alcohol, snacks and hot food, while current 2026 away guidance still identifies the away-end facilities as a visiting option. Supporter reports describe it as small but functional.

Expect away-supporter facility · compact · practical

Before you go This is inside the visiting section after the turnstiles, not a general pre-ground pub stop. Recent visiting guidance says the exact offer can change from match to match.

in-ground football catering

Vale Park Bycars away-end kiosks and fan zone

Good for visiting supporters already inside · traditional football food

The most straightforward food fallback if you are already in the Bycars away end. The club publishes a proper pie choice, including vegetarian and vegan options; recent visiting guidance confirms food counters on both sides of the stand.

Expect football concourse · quick bite

takeaway

Hamil Oatcakes & Snacks

Good for supporters wanting a local Staffordshire food stop before an afternoon match · breakfast or early lunch when opening hours fit

Hamil Oatcakes is a useful local-food lead on Hamil Road rather than a football pub. Visit Stoke lists it as a traditional Staffordshire oatcake shop close to Port Vale, and a current business directory lists Saturday daytime opening. A recent business-sale listing means the exact ownership and hours are worth checking before publication.

Expect Staffordshire oatcakes · quick daytime food · near-ground local option

Before you go The current directory listing gives Saturday hours of 07:00-13:30, so it is an early food stop rather than a late pre-kick-off option for a standard afternoon fixture. No football-specific colours or supporter-admission policy has been found.

Staffordshire oatcake takeaway

Hamil Oatcakes & Snacks

Good for local Staffordshire food · early kick-off breakfast

A strong local alternative to stadium pies without a detour into the wider city. It is close to Vale Park and makes sense for an early matchday breakfast or snack; the current operator and hours need a direct check.

Expect local speciality · grab and go

Before you go Yell lists Saturday 07:00–13:30, but the venue has no directly confirmed live timetable. A former business-sale advert adds uncertainty; check before travelling specifically for it.

Location and route
On Hamil Road near Vale Park, a particularly useful local-food stop before entering the ground.
Food & drink
Traditional Staffordshire oatcakes with savoury fillings; the exact current filled-oatcake menu is not published by the venue.
How it works
Small local takeaway counter; daytime service

157 Hamil Road, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 1AP

independent bakery

JSS Bakeries

Good for pre-match pies · independent bakery

A good pre-match choice for supporters who prefer a proper bakery pie or baguette rather than leaving lunch until the stadium. The bakery itself publishes its address, goods and Saturday trading window, so it is a more dependable lead than an unnamed food truck.

Expect traditional bakery · takeaway

Before you go Service speed at matchday rush is not established.

Location and route
On Waterloo Road through central Burslem; an option for those eating before continuing towards Vale Park.
Food & drink
Freshly baked savoury pies, baguettes, morning goods, sweet pies, scones, cream cakes and vanilla slices.
How it works
Bakery shop with counter-service takeaway

106–108 Waterloo Road, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 3HB

Potteries bakery

Wrights the Bakery — Burslem

Good for bakery pie before kick-off · rail-arrival town-centre stop

An easy town-centre choice for a pie to eat before walking up to the ground, without committing to a sit-down meal. The Burslem branch is listed independently of delivery-platform availability, but confirm shop hours and stock on the day.

Expect quick bakery · town centre

Before you go Local business data lists Saturday trading; Uber Eats marked this branch unavailable for delivery from 7 October, which does not establish that the physical shop shut.

Location and route
Burslem Market Place on the town-centre approach to Hamil Road; convenient when arriving through Burslem from Longport.
Food & drink
Wrights pies, sausage rolls, other savouries and cakes; stock and menu can vary by branch.
How it works
High-street bakery counter and takeaway

11 Market Place, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 3AA

Staffordshire oatcake bakery

High Lane Oatcakes

Good for filled Staffordshire oatcakes · Tunstall arrivals

The strongest independently confirmed local oatcake option for supporters travelling through Tunstall. It has an operator website and a visible menu for filled oatcakes, but it is a separate stop rather than a quick counter immediately beside Vale Park.

Expect local speciality · takeaway breakfast

Before you go Operator advertises 06:00–15:00 daily; ordering platform shows about 07:00–14:30.

Location and route
On High Lane north of central Burslem, useful if arriving via Tunstall or already travelling down High Lane; not on the direct Longport town-centre approach.
Food & drink
Fresh oatcakes stuffed with cheese and bacon, cheese and sausage, or mixed breakfast fillings such as egg, beans and mushrooms; also plain oatcakes.
How it works
Hot filled-oatcake counter, takeaway and shop

597–599 High Lane, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 7EP

fish and chips takeaway

Captain Kooks

Good for fish and chips · families collecting food

A sensible option for a proper chip-shop meal instead of stadium food if Sandbach Road fits your route. Ordering ahead may help, but there is no evidence that matchday queues or walk-in collection will always be quick.

Expect chip shop · takeaway

Before you go Saturday morning/daytime opening is listed by business directories, but the venue website does not publish confirmed Saturday times. Check before travelling for the early kick-off.

Location and route
On Sandbach Road in the Cobridge/Burslem area; a detour for supporters arriving through that side of Stoke, not at the Bycars gates.
Food & drink
Freshly cooked battered fish and chips plus traditional chip-shop sides and sauces.
How it works
Fish-and-chip shop with online collection ordering; seating availability should be checked

Sandbach Road, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 2DR

fried chicken and burgers

Benny’s Chicken Co.

Good for post-match casual meal · groups

A useful casual option for groups wanting burgers or chicken rather than pies and oatcakes. Its own menu offers clearly described meal combinations; as a takeaway-style kitchen it is practical, although no matchday wait-time guarantee is available.

Expect casual · fast food

Before you go Published daily hours begin at noon.

Location and route
On Waterloo Road in Burslem; better as a later lunch or post-match stop than a long pre-match meal before an early kick-off.
Food & drink
Fried chicken, burgers, spicy wings, wraps, fries and a mini-fillet children’s meal on the venue’s 2025 menu.
How it works
Fast-food takeaway/counter with meal bundles

120–122 Waterloo Road, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 3HB

café and dessert kitchen

Sweet & Savoury Patisserie

Good for mixed food preferences · desserts after match

A more flexible choice for a family or group with mixed appetites: substantial savoury food as well as desserts. Menus are evidenced on ordering platforms, but the venue website could not be opened, so facilities and service pace remain unconfirmed.

Expect café · desserts · casual

Before you go Ordering platforms list Saturday service from 10:00.

Location and route
Central Burslem on Waterloo Road; more suited to a café stop or post-match food than eating by the away turnstiles.
Food & drink
Chicken tikka panini, masala chips, lasagne, street-food plates, waffles, cheesecakes and milkshakes are shown on current ordering menus.
How it works
Casual sit-in/takeaway food and desserts; platform pickup/delivery

110 Waterloo Road, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 3HB

Indian restaurant and takeaway

Vale Curry House

Good for evening meal after match · overnight visitors

Worth considering for a proper sit-down meal after the football, particularly if you are staying locally. The kitchen stresses food cooked fresh rather than fast service, so it is not a sensible pre-match plan for a lunchtime kick-off.

Expect evening meal · sit-down curry

Before you go Book or check availability if your group wants an evening table.

Location and route
St John’s Square in Burslem centre, a choice for evening dining after an early match or for an overnight stay in the Potteries.
Food & drink
Onion bhaji, mixed starter, chicken tikka, kebabs and a wider range of curries and tandoori dishes.
How it works
Made-to-order Indian food, dine-in or takeaway; evening service

16–18 St John’s Square, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 3AJ

These options need their own location and admission checks. Read the venue detail before adding a stop to your matchday plans.

Pub food

Green Star

Good for away supporters wanting an alternative to central Burslem · supporters wanting live sport before kick-off

The Green Star is a verified-open Craft Union pub in Smallthorne. A Port Vale away-day guide checked in September 2026 directs visiting supporters here as one of the current alternatives to Burslem-centre pubs, and local CAMRA information lists meal service.

Expect community pub · live sport · current away-guide option

Before you go The away-supporter recommendation comes from a current independent football guide rather than a venue or club admission statement. Fixture restrictions and away-colours policy therefore remain unverified.

fanzone

Holdcroft Motor Group Fanzone

Good for home supporters with children · supporters wanting hot food and entertainment before kick-off

This is Port Vale’s main home-side pre-match hub. For 2026/27 it carries the Holdcroft Motor Group name, and current club material places the Family Stand beside the fanzone and describes music, food and entertainment from pre-match into the game. Recent visiting guidance treats the fanzone as predominantly a home-supporter area rather than a dependable away option.

Expect family oriented · music and entertainment · home-supporter hub

Before you go Older club and visiting pages may still call this the University of Staffordshire or Staffordshire University Fan Zone. Away access should be treated as fixture-dependent and checked against match-specific guidance.

home-side matchday street food

Holdcroft Motors Fan Zone — home-side food vans

Good for home supporters · families

A more varied food stop than the usual concourse counter for home supporters, particularly families using the Hamil Road side. Food stalls change between matches, so treat any previously reviewed dish as an example, not a permanent stall.

Expect family hub · live entertainment · food vans

Before you go Main fanzone is predominantly home-side; visiting-supporter entry is not assured.

Location and route
Car Park C beside the Hamil Road home family stand; distinct from the Bycars visiting concourse.
Food & drink
Rotating hot-food vans, including vegetarian options, and an ice-cream van; a recent fan account reported Staffordshire oatcakes, coffee, burritos and burgers at one fixture.
How it works
Rotating outdoor hot-food vans, ice cream and soft drinks, alongside entertainment

WHERE TO STAY

Where should you stay?

Choose a base for the football and the rest of your visit.

Where to stay

Burslem is the easiest area if walking to the match is your priority, but the ground is not beside Stoke-on-Trent's main railway station. For an overnight trip, Hanley gives a more practical combination of city-centre hotels, food and bus/taxi links towards Burslem. Hilton Garden Inn is on Potteries Way near the Cultural Quarter, while DoubleTree is on Festival Way by Etruria; both require an onward journey to Vale Park. Staying near Stoke-on-Trent station suits a late-arriving rail traveller or a very early return train, but it still leaves the matchday transfer. Check your post-match bus and rail connection before choosing an overnight base; avoid assuming a direct service runs late after an evening fixture.

Directions to Vale Park ↗

Choose Hanley if the trip includes dinner, drinks or a night out and you want a full-service hotel with stronger current quality evidence. Choose Burslem only when being able to walk to Vale Park is the overriding priority and you are comfortable with a simpler, still-settling hotel offer. The Stoke town/railway-station area can work for rail arrivals and better-value apartment-style accommodation, but it leaves you farther from Vale Park and usually needing a taxi or bus.

Near the ground

Vale Park sits on Hamil Road in Burslem, in a residential/working-town setting rather than a dense hotel district. Burslem town centre is close enough to form part of the matchday on foot, and the George Hotel is about a 9-minute/0.5-mile walk from Vale Park. The important caveat for travelling fans is pub access: fixture-specific away guidance can designate central Burslem pubs as home-only.

For the evening

Hanley city centre, especially Piccadilly and the Cultural Quarter, is the most useful post-match base for a visitor who wants a choice of pubs, bars and food. Visit Stoke currently lists venues such as the Unicorn Inn and Peter's Tavern on Piccadilly, while the Hilton Garden Inn is within half a mile of the Cultural Quarter.

For the train

Longport is the nearest practical rail station for Vale Park: Port Vale's own guidance gives a 25-minute walk to the ground. Most inter-city visitors will arrive at Stoke-on-Trent station, from where the club advises taking a bus to Burslem. The Hilton Garden Inn is about a mile from Stoke station, while Potbank is roughly a 5-10 minute walk from it depending on route.

Hanley location puts a meaningful selection of food, pubs and bars within the evening area rather than leaving supporters dependent on the stadium neighbourhood.

Current public transport evidence supports Hanley-to-Burslem travel; First Bus service 103 is one current example taking roughly 11-16 minutes from Hanley Bus Station to Burslem Wedgwood Place in the sampled Saturday timetable.

Free parking is listed on the current Booking.com property page.

Recent Booking.com guest evidence says the hotel has recently reopened and that breakfast and some facilities are not currently available.

The property had a material closure in June 2024. Old poor reviews belong to the pre-closure operation and should not be blended uncritically with the reopened hotel, but the history warrants caution.

Burslem can be excellent for real ale, but a current 2026 visiting-club away guide says all central Burslem pubs are home-fans-only for that fixture; away supporters need fixture-specific checks rather than assuming local pubs are available.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into Vale Park

Away supporters now use the Bycars Stand, not the old Hamil Road away end. Check the gate on your ticket and head for the visiting side, following signage and stewards rather than an old ground guide. The club directs visiting cars and coaches to Dimensions Leisure Centre, ST6 4ET. Its older visiting guide calls the signed walk five minutes; the fuller first-time guide allows ten, which is the more useful planning margin. From Longport, walk uphill along Station Street and Newcastle Street into Burslem, then follow the signed approach to Bycars rather than assuming Hamil Road's home entrance is yours. Allow extra time at busy fixtures.

02 · Before the match

Green Star

The Green Star is a verified-open Craft Union pub in Smallthorne. A Port Vale away-day guide checked in September 2026 directs visiting supporters here as one of the current alternatives to Burslem-centre pubs, and local CAMRA information lists meal service. The away-supporter recommendation comes from a current independent football guide rather than a venue or club admission statement. Fixture restrictions and away-colours policy therefore remain unverified.
