BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into Bramall Lane

Head for the Bramall Lane Stand, where visiting supporters are normally seated in the lower tier behind the goal. From Sheffield station, walk along Sheaf Street towards Shoreham Street, follow Shoreham Street uphill and cross St Mary's Road at the lights. Continue towards John Street and the Bramall Lane side of the stadium, following signs and stewards to the visiting turnstiles. Do not go straight to the home ticket office or assume every entrance on Cherry Street is for general admission. Your away ticket and the fixture's instructions take priority if the club changes the allocation. The separate accessible entrance is through the large red gate in the main Cherry Street car park, beside Legends of the Lane. Allow a little extra time for the street crossings and security checks. The stadium is compact, but temporary traffic exclusion zones can affect the normal approach.

02 · Reach the away end

After the match

If you drove, expect a slow first few minutes while crowds cross Shoreham Street, Bramall Lane and the roads around the stands. The club's accessibility guidance records a matchday traffic exclusion zone, so do not assume you can drive past the away end immediately after full-time. Parking outside that cordon is worth a slightly longer walk. From The Moor or Sheffield College, follow the pedestrian route back to your car and join your outbound road away from the stadium cordon. APCOA New Era Square is closer to the ground but can leave you nearer the dispersing crowd. None of these choices guarantees a queue-free exit. If you are catching a train, walk back to Sheffield station and leave a sensible connection margin rather than booking a tight departure. Meadowhall park-and-ride users should check their final train or tram and the car park's operating arrangements before the match.

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay around Sheffield station or the southern city centre if the match is part of an overnight trip. You can walk to Bramall Lane, return to the station easily and choose from pubs and restaurants without depending on a late tram.

Rail, Underground & tram

Use Sheffield railway station for the simplest rail trip to Bramall Lane. The ground is a walk from the main station, taking around 15 minutes for many supporters, with an uphill stretch. Leave enough time for the final approach to your Bramall Lane Stand turnstile rather than assuming the stadium entrance is beside the platforms.

If you are using the tram, Granville Road (Sheffield College) is the most useful nearby stop. Blue and Purple services call there, and Sheffield United puts the walk to the ground at about 10 minutes. Meadowhall is an alternative place to leave the car and take a train into Sheffield, not a station within walking distance of the stadium.

Sheffield station has lifts and step-free access to all platforms, but that does not mean the whole uphill journey to the away entrance is step-free or effortless. Check engineering works and your return train before setting off.

Buses & local travel

For most rail arrivals, walking is easier than arranging a bus. If you would rather shorten the walk, use a Blue or Purple tram to Granville Road (Sheffield College), then follow the signed route towards Bramall Lane. Check the destination and live tram information before boarding, especially after an evening match.

Sheffield Interchange is also a usable arrival point. The club puts it approximately 15 minutes from the ground on foot, while AccessAble identifies buses towards Shoreham Street, Bramall Lane and London Road. Bus numbers and stops can change, so use the journey planner for your fixture rather than relying on older printed service lists.

If driving from the M1, Meadowhall Park & Ride provides free parking and a rail or tram connection. The parking is first come, first served, and the public transport ticket is paid separately.

Away coaches

If you are travelling on an official away coach, use your organiser's drop-off instructions rather than navigating to a public car park. Sheffield United provides a designated area directly outside the visiting turnstiles, but the coach operator must arrange access with the home club in advance. This is particularly important because roads surrounding the stadium can be closed to other traffic.

For the journey home, confirm the exact collection location with the organiser before leaving the coach. The club's public guidance verifies the nearby arrival arrangement but does not establish a universal post-match pickup point or departure time. Stay with your group and follow steward or police instructions if the coach is held while the crowd disperses.

Accessible journeys

Arrange accessible tickets and parking through your own club before travelling. Sheffield United's 2026/27 accessibility guide allocates a limited number of free Blue Badge parking spaces in the main Cherry Street car park to visiting supporters. The accessible away entrance is the large red gate beside Legends of the Lane, and the stadium's ticket office can help if you need the precise route.

The Bramall Lane Lower away end has ten pitchside wheelchair positions with companions nearby. Supporters who need easier-access seats can ask for the specified lower-tier rows when booking. The club says wheelchair users cannot currently access the regular away concourse, but an at-seat refreshments service is provided.

Sheffield railway station has step-free access and lifts, although the route uphill to Bramall Lane needs separate consideration. Contact the home club on 0114 253 7200 and your own club's access team about vehicle arrival, seating and collection before matchday.

WHERE TO STAY

Would an overnight stay help?

Check your return services, then compare a station, stadium or town-centre stay.

Where to stay

Stay around Sheffield station or the southern city centre if the match is part of an overnight trip. You can walk to Bramall Lane, return to the station easily and choose from pubs and restaurants without depending on a late tram. The Eyre Street and Moor area is a useful compromise between football and the evening. If getting back to your room immediately after the final whistle matters more, DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City is directly on Bramall Lane. Its own website warns that hotel parking access is restricted on matchdays, so staying there does not mean you can drive up to the hotel freely around kick-off. For a bigger evening out, the wider city centre provides more choice than the streets around the visiting entrance. Check individual hotel prices against your fixture and do not assume hotel parking is available without a separate booking.

DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City: location, parking and transport ↗

For most supporters, the best balance is the south side of the city centre around Eyre Street/St Mary's Gate: the ground is comfortably walkable, Sheffield station is still close, and the main central food-and-drink areas remain within reach. Stay at Bramall Lane itself if minimum post-match walking matters most; stay around Leopold Square/West Street if the evening after the game is the priority.

For the evening

The strongest all-round post-match cluster is in the central-west core around Leopold Square, Division Street and West Street. Visit Sheffield describes Division Street as a long-established independent hub of pubs, bars, cafés and shops, while Leopold Square has bars and restaurants directly around the hotel courtyard.

For the train

Sheffield station is on the south-east side of the centre. Leonardo Hotel Sheffield is the strongest rail/stadium compromise among the primary choices: its official site says the station is less than a 10-minute walk away, while Bramall Lane is roughly half a mile in the other direction.
