BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into Coventry Building Society Arena

Follow signs for the South Stand visiting section, usually Blocks 6–9, rather than walking to the main north entrance. Your away ticket identifies the correct block and entry point. Coventry City's away guide says the South Stand turnstiles normally open 90 minutes before kick-off. From Coventry Arena station or the Arena Shopping Park bus stops, follow the signed pedestrian route into the stadium site and continue towards the South Stand. The shopping-park underpass brings you towards Car Park B; allow a further walk around the ground to reach the visiting turnstiles. After the match, segregation can change the way you leave. The host club instructs away supporters to go across Car Park B and turn left at the exit gate for the shopping park and railway station, rather than turning left immediately outside the away end.

02 · Before the match

The Flying Standard

The Flying Standard is a practical city-centre option rather than a near-ground pub. Wetherspoon confirms it is open from 8am and serves food, while current Coventry ground guidance marks it as welcoming away supporters. It still requires onward travel to the CBS Arena. Away-fan use is currently supported, but no current venue rule on away colours or high-risk fixture restrictions was found.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay in central Coventry if you want pubs, restaurants and an easier start to a longer-distance rail journey. The area around the city centre, Corporation Street and the railway station is a more useful all-round base than the retail park beside the ground.

Pub food

The Flying Standard

Good for supporters arriving early in Coventry city centre · groups wanting breakfast or a straightforward meal before travelling on

The Flying Standard is a practical city-centre option rather than a near-ground pub. Wetherspoon confirms it is open from 8am and serves food, while current Coventry ground guidance marks it as welcoming away supporters. A Cardiff City visiting guide has also previously directed away fans there, giving useful cross-supporter corroboration.

Expect busy city-centre Wetherspoon · practical meeting point · early-opening food-and-drink option

Before you go It still requires onward travel to the CBS Arena. Away-fan use is currently supported, but no current venue rule on away colours or high-risk fixture restrictions was found.

Pub food

Sky Blue Tavern

Good for Coventry City supporters wanting a city-centre matchday base · families wanting a sit-down meal with live sport

Sky Blue Tavern is a strongly Coventry City-focused city-centre sports bar, created with Dhillon’s Brewery and serving Indian grills, curries and pub classics. It is a useful home-supporter base and currently operates a home-matchday shuttle towards Dhillon’s. There is not enough current evidence to present it as an away-fan pub.

Expect Coventry City themed · home-supporter focused · sports bar

Before you go Away admission and away colours are deliberately left unknown. Visiting supporters should not treat the venue's general opening hours as proof that opposition colours will be accepted on a particular fixture.

Coventry Building Society Arena - South Stand concourse

Good for visiting supporters who want food and drink after entering the ground · late arrivals who do not want another pre-match stop

The South Stand is Coventry’s visiting-supporter section, so its concourse is the safest fallback for away fans who simply want food and drink after entry. The arena's current 2026/27 food page confirms an expanded food-and-drink offer for both home and away fans and that the venue is cashless.

Expect inside the away end · cashless · convenient

Before you go Exact South Stand menu lines and alcohol availability can vary, and the published arena page does not provide a specific away-colours rule. Children under 3 are not admitted to the stadium and under-14s must be accompanied, according to Brighton's August 2026 visiting-club ticket information.

fanzone

Coventry City pre-match Family Zone

Good for Coventry City families with younger supporters · a simple pre-match family stop outside the turnstiles

Coventry City's current 2026/27 home-ticket information confirms that the pre-match Family Zone continues outside the arena turnstiles. It includes a tuck shop and is clearly aimed at young supporters, making it useful home-matchday intelligence rather than a pub alternative.

Expect family focused · pre match · club run

Before you go The current page does not establish away-fan access, away-colour rules or fixture-by-fixture opening hours, so it should not be promoted to visiting supporters without a fresh club update for that match.

Pub food

The Flying Standard

Good for train arrivals · breakfast

The best-evidenced city-centre pub for rail arrivals. It opens early, serves food and has current ground-guide support for visiting fans before the onward trip to the arena.

Expect city centre · busy · practical

Before you go It is nowhere near the turnstiles: leave enough time for the shuttle, taxi or Coventry-to-Coventry Arena train. Away-colours policy remains unverified.

Food & drink
Breakfast and the full Wetherspoons menu make it a practical early-arrival meal stop rather than a destination food choice.

Pub food

Castle Grounds

Good for city-centre pint · groups

A sensible town-centre option when you want to drink before travelling to the arena. Visit Coventry explicitly points football visitors here for a pre-match pint.

Expect city centre · sports pub · large

Before you go No current venue rule on opposition colours was found. Treat it as a city-centre fallback, not a designated away pub.

Food & drink
Food is available, but this is primarily included as a city-centre pre-match pint rather than for a specific standout dish.

CBS Arena South Stand Concourse

0 min walk

Good for late arrivals · guaranteed away access

The dependable fallback after entry. Coventry's current arena information confirms an expanded 2026/27 food-and-drink offer for away fans, and the South Stand is the visiting section.

Expect concourse · cashless · away only

Before you go The stadium is cashless. Current public pages do not map every new 2026/27 dish to the South Stand, so do not promise specific speciality kiosks.

Food & drink
The away concourse provides hot food, snacks, beer and vegetarian/vegan options; the wider 2026/27 arena offer also includes new meals and snacks, but stand-by-stand lines vary.

independent food hall

Elle's Coventry

Good for train arrivals · mixed groups

The strongest station-side food option. Multiple independent kitchens under one roof let a group eat together without wasting time crossing the city before the arena train or shuttle.

Expect station side · food hall · group friendly

Before you go It is a public food hall rather than a football venue, so no away-colours policy was found. Allow onward travel time to the arena.

Food & drink
Current kitchens include Caribbean jerk chicken and plantain, Mexican food, Hallworth's comfort classics, Pan-Asian street food and South Asian flavours.

The Longford Fishbar

17 min walk

Good for fish and chips · quick food

The most useful ground-side food pairing with the official away pub. Eat here, drink at the Longford Engine, then make the same Bedworth Road walk towards the South Stand.

Expect takeaway · near away pub · quick

Before you go The current site lists Sunday closed. Away-colours policy is unknown, but it is a takeaway rather than a football pub.

Food & drink
Cod and chips, mini fish and chips, fish cakes and masala fish are on the current menu, alongside kebabs and breakfast batches.

Cogs Bar & Kitchen

Good for proper meal · overnight stay

A strong sit-down alternative to the station food hall. It suits overnight visitors or groups who want a proper meal before taking the local train or shuttle north.

Expect station side · hotel restaurant · sit down

Before you go No football-specific door or colours policy was found. For a busy matchday, book rather than assuming a walk-in table.

Food & drink
The current restaurant highlights its new smash burgers; wider menus include British comfort food, grills and Sunday lunch.

Korean barbecue

Jinseon Korean BBQ & Bar

Good for groups · proper meal

Worth choosing when the away day includes a proper city-centre meal. The charcoal barbecue format works particularly well for groups with time before travelling out to the arena.

Expect interactive · city centre · group friendly

Before you go This is not on the direct station-to-ground route. Current hours split between lunch and evening service, so check your kick-off time before booking.

Food & drink
Traditional charcoal Korean barbecue lets groups grill meat, seafood and vegetables at the table, making it more of a proper shared meal than a quick matchday feed.

Lebanese and Middle Eastern

Aqua Food & Mood

Good for proper meal · halal food

A useful city-centre choice when dietary needs matter. The Lebanese menu is broad, HMC certification is current, and groups have plenty of mezze and grill options.

Expect Lebanese · sit down · halal

Before you go Aqua is alcohol-free and opens at 17:00 on weekdays, so it suits evening kick-offs or post-match food better than an early Saturday lunch.

Food & drink
Hot and cold mezze, shish taouk, lamb grills, mixed grills and plentiful vegetarian/vegan options; the restaurant is alcohol-free with a 0.0% drinks bar.
How it works
sit-down restaurant

14A The Butts, Coventry, CV1 3GR

fish and chips, kebabs and takeaway

Arena Fish Bar

Good for drivers · north-side approach

A practical chippy for supporters approaching from north Coventry. Current football guidance identifies it as a matchgoer stop, but it is less convenient than Longford Fishbar for the official away-pub route.

Expect takeaway · north side · quick

Before you go Current opening listings disagree slightly on Tuesday and Saturday hours. Check the day before travelling; there is no football-specific colours policy.

Food & drink
Fish and chips, kebabs, burgers and pies are the current offer; recent customer feedback is stronger on kebabs and chips than on the fish itself.

WHERE TO STAY

Where should you stay?

Choose a base for the football and the rest of your visit.

Where to stay

Stay in central Coventry if you want pubs, restaurants and an easier start to a longer-distance rail journey. The area around the city centre, Corporation Street and the railway station is a more useful all-round base than the retail park beside the ground. Travel to the arena separately by the number 20 bus or a planned rail connection. For the shortest trip from bed to the turnstiles, choose the on-site DoubleTree by Hilton at Coventry Building Society Arena. You lose some city-centre choice, but you avoid a post-match journey back to your hotel. Check match-night room rates before deciding, as event pricing can vary. If travelling home late by train, staying near Coventry railway station is particularly practical. It keeps your hotel close to the main rail hub, while the arena remains easy to reach by a planned bus or hourly local train.

Plan your visit ↗

For most overnight supporters, base yourself in central Coventry and travel out to the arena. Hotel Indigo is especially useful because it sits beside Coventry railway station, while the Telegraph puts you directly in the city-centre drinking and dining area. Choose the on-site DoubleTree when getting back to the room within minutes of full-time matters more than nightlife or price resilience.

For the evening

The strongest evening choice is central Coventry around Corporation Street, the Belgrade/Broadgate side of the centre and the nearby Skydome. The Telegraph is in the middle of this area and has its own Generators rooftop bar; Hotel Indigo is quieter by the station but still walkable into the centre.

For the train

Coventry main station is the most useful rail base. Hotel Indigo is about two minutes away and IHG advertises a seven-minute train ride to Coventry Arena. Coventry Arena station is around a five-minute walk from the ground, but the arena says matchday trains are only hourly in each direction, so this is a timetable-led connection rather than a turn-up-and-go metro service.

Current Booking.com evidence was very strong at 9.1/10 from more than 1,100 reviews during this research pass.

Recent 2026 Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly praise cleanliness, quiet rooms, comfortable beds, helpful staff and station convenience.

It gives travelling supporters a city-centre evening without committing to the arena's more event-led surroundings.

Sampled Premier League home-match Saturdays were broadly in line with its ordinary weekend baseline rather than showing the extreme arena-hotel spike seen at the DoubleTree.

There is no on-site hotel car park; IHG directs guests to Coventry Station multi-storey nearby.

It is at the station end of the centre rather than directly in the Broadgate/Corporation Street nightlife cluster.

Midweek rates in the sample were consistently upper-mid-market for Coventry.

    More about this choice

There is no meaningful post-match transport problem if you are happy to stay in the arena area.

Coventry Arena station is around a five-minute walk away for onward travel.

Quiet non-event weekends in the sample were good value for a branded full-service hotel.

The arena/retail setting offers fewer independent pubs, restaurants and late-evening choices than central Coventry.

Recent review evidence is much more mixed than at Hotel Indigo or the Telegraph, with recurring complaints around parking, event noise, food/value and some dated or maintenance-related room issues.

Coventry Arena station is close but the arena states matchday trains are only hourly.

    More about this choice

The hotel has its own Generators rooftop bar, refreshed for 2026, and the surrounding streets contain a strong concentration of pubs, bars and restaurants.

Current reputation evidence is strong: Booking.com showed 8.9/10 from more than 4,000 reviews and Tripadvisor showed 4.5/5 with a 2026 Travellers' Choice award.

Recent reviews repeatedly praise room size, cleanliness, beds, staff and the central location.

Sampled Coventry home-match nights did not show the sharp matchday pricing seen at the on-site DoubleTree.

Coventry main station is about a 16-minute walk according to the hotel, so rail to Coventry Arena is less seamless than from Hotel Indigo.

    There is no on-site parking.

Food-and-beverage service receives occasional inconsistent comments despite the overall strong hotel reputation.
