Use Barnsley railway station and the adjoining Barnsley Interchange for Oakwell. Northern services connect Barnsley with Sheffield, Leeds and Huddersfield, and the club gives around 15 minutes for the walk.
Plan a stay at Barnsley ↗Head for the Barry Murphy North Stand, where visiting supporters enter Oakwell. From Queens Road and the Metrodome side, follow the signed route down towards the North Stand rather than walking around to the home entrances on Grove Street. Barnsley has previously used visiting turnstiles 44 and 49, but the openings and allocations can change between fixtures. Follow the entrance printed on your ticket and the directions from stewards. If you are collecting a ticket or need step-free entry, arrange the correct collection or accessible gate with the club beforehand.
Matchday Supporter Information | Cambridge United (H) ↗If you are driving and want a more predictable getaway, choose a council car park such as Market Gate rather than Queens Ground beside the stadium. The walk back takes longer, but it avoids the away-car-park vehicle hold while coaches and pedestrians clear. If you park at Queens Ground, expect to wait at least 15 minutes after the final whistle before cars can move, and longer if stewards need to clear coaches. For the train, follow the return route via Queens Road towards Barnsley Interchange and leave a sensible connection buffer; don't plan a tight departure straight after full-time.
Barnsley Away Guide (2025/26 Season) ↗Stay in Barnsley town centre if you are coming by train or want food and drinks after the match. The interchange, pubs and restaurants are all close together, and Oakwell is within walking distance.

Northern services connect Barnsley with Sheffield, Leeds and Huddersfield, and the club gives around 15 minutes for the walk. Allow a little extra to reach the visiting turnstiles at the North Stand.
From the interchange, turn left away from the town centre, pass beneath the dual-carriageway bridge and cross carefully. Turn left up the slip road, then right onto Queens Road towards the Metrodome. For your return, check your train before leaving the ground and allow time for the climb back towards the interchange.

Barnsley Interchange combines the town's buses and trains, so it is the simplest place to arrive if you are travelling locally. From there, walking to Oakwell normally makes more sense than waiting for another bus, especially when the streets around the stadium are busy.
Local and regional buses use the interchange, with departure stands and live running information provided by Travel South Yorkshire. If you cannot manage the walk, a taxi can be picked up on Kendray Street outside the interchange. Agree where to be collected after full-time because stadium access may be restricted.
Travelling with your club's supporters' coach is straightforward if the operator has arranged entry to Queens Ground on Queens Road, postcode S71 1AN. This is the designated visiting-supporter parking area beside the Metrodome and close to the North Stand.
Recent visiting-club instructions give a £20 coach-parking charge and warn that vehicle access closes 30 minutes before kick-off. The coach organiser should confirm the arrival gate and collection instructions for your fixture. After the game, return to the same designated coach area, but expect departure to be controlled by stadium stewards.
Contact Barnsley's ticket office before travelling if you need accessible parking or a step-free way into the visiting North Stand. Level Playing Field identifies 12 away Blue Badge parking spaces at Queens Ground, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Its published charge was £5, but the club should confirm the price and arrangements for your fixture.
The North Stand has 18 elevated wheelchair positions and accessible toilets are provided around Oakwell. For audio-described commentary, ask about collecting or arranging the free earpiece in advance. The car park and approach can be steep, particularly in wet weather, so do not assume the ordinary away turnstiles are your accessible route.

Stay in Barnsley town centre if you are coming by train or want food and drinks after the match. The interchange, pubs and restaurants are all close together, and Oakwell is within walking distance. This makes an overnight stay easy without needing to hire a car. Look around Market Hill, Church Street and the station side of the centre for the most convenient base. Hotels farther west near Dodworth and the M1 may suit drivers better, but you would need another journey to the ground. For evening matches, check the last train before choosing whether to stay overnight.
Barnsley town centre ↗For a supporter arriving by train or wanting a drink after the match, base yourself in or immediately beside Barnsley town centre. Gateway Plaza, Market Hill, Church Street and the Victorian Arcade are the useful reference points. Hotels around Dodworth and the M1 can be cheaper or better for parking, but they turn the football trip into a taxi or bus job.
The useful evening cluster is the town centre rather than Oakwell itself: Market Hill, Church Street, Peel Street, Shambles Street, Wellington Street and the Victorian Arcade contain the strongest concentration of pubs, bars and places to eat.
Barnsley Interchange combines the rail and bus stations and is within walking distance of both the town centre and Oakwell. A central hotel therefore works much better for a rail-based football trip than the motorway-side properties.

Gateway Plaza is already on the edge of the town-centre evening area, with Market Hill, Church Street and the Victorian Arcade nearby.
Recent review evidence is broadly strong for cleanliness, sleep quality, staff and location.
It avoids the main weakness of Barnsley's motorway-side hotels: needing a taxi or long walk both for the ground and for the town-centre evening.
A recent September 2026 review reported grubby common areas, low staffing, lift odour and parking confusion. That is not the dominant review pattern, but it is a current warning worth monitoring.
Some reviews describe the property as a little dated in places.
Booking.com availability was not verified in the sampled searches, so this recommendation may require direct booking rather than the site's main affiliate route.
Room pricing is dynamic and there was not enough date-specific GBP evidence to calculate a defensible separate midweek and weekend baseline for this property.
