What this club is really about

The works side began among shipbuilders before a school and youth tradition helped shape the Academy of Football. Supporters came to value inventive football and players with personality. At the Boleyn, close streets and the Chicken Run gave the crowd's humour a particular setting. Cups and the Boys of '86 sit alongside defeats, relegations and escapes, with vivid characters remembered even when the teams fell short.

Why that identity still matters

Bubbles and the crossed hammers moved in 2016, with Moore, Bonds and Brooking appearing in the new stadium's memorials and stand names. Green Street retained its garden and older statue. In 2026, Championship football, Millwall's return after fourteen years, governance concerns and a crest consultation keep those questions about the club close to the present.
