Holiday Inn Bolton Centre by IHG
Bolton town centre
The best all-round football-trip base if you want the match and a proper evening in Bolton rather than just the easiest possible walk to the turnstile. IHG describes it as newly refurbished and the latest September 2026 Tripadvisor reviews are notably positive about staff, cleanliness and comfort. You give up stadium-doorstep convenience, but gain the town centre and can use the direct rail link to Horwich Parkway.
- Central Bolton puts pubs, bars, food and the town-centre evening within easy reach.
- Bolton station has direct trains to Horwich Parkway, with the rail journey itself around 6 minutes.
Approximate town-centre-to-stadium distance. Use Bolton station to Horwich Parkway (about 6 minutes direct by train) or a taxi; do not present this as a practical walk.
It is not walkable to the stadium in a sensible matchday sense; plan on rail, taxi or car.

The Bolton Stadium Hotel, a member of Radisson Individuals
Toughsheet Community Stadium / Middlebrook, Horwich
The no-argument choice for stadium proximity: the hotel is part of the Toughsheet Community Stadium itself and some rooms look onto the pitch. It is excellent for removing matchday transport stress and Horwich Parkway is close, but the current quality evidence is mixed enough that it does not take the overall recommendation.
- Physically integrated into the stadium: no other hotel beats it for the walk to the turnstiles.
- Horwich Parkway is around a 10-minute walk according to Radisson, useful for rail arrivals/departures.
The hotel is attached to and integrated with the Toughsheet Community Stadium. Walking time varies by the stand/turnstile used but is effectively on-site.
The stadium/Middlebrook setting is much weaker than Bolton town centre for an evening of pubs and bars.

Parking
Driving & road restrictions
Use BL6 6JW for the stadium, then follow the signed route to the away-supporters' Car Park A rather than a generic retail-park entrance. From the M61, leave at Junction 6 for the A6027 De Havilland Way. The stadium and its access roads are beside the motorway, so avoid taking a town-centre route towards Bolton itself.
Allow extra time for queues around Junction 6, De Havilland Way and Burnden Way before and after a busy match. Bolton Council's Horwich events notice concerns particular town-centre events, not a blanket football-day road closure. Check current roadworks and match-specific steward instructions before travelling; do not assume those listed event closures affect your fixture.

- Toughsheet Community Stadium, Burnden Way, Bolton, BL6 6JW
- Motorway approach
- M61 Junction 6 and A6027 De Havilland Way
- Away car park direction
- Car Park A is reached from the south-side stadium access, with steward/sign directions
- Horwich events order
- The council 2026 special-event notice identifies unrelated Christmas and summer town-centre event roads, not a general stadium football closure
Parking & park-and-ride
You do not normally need to pre-book parking for Bolton, but arrive in good time if you want the official away car park. Car Park A is on the south side of the Toughsheet Community Stadium and operates first come, first served. Visiting-club guidance from September 2026 quotes £10 per car, paid cashlessly. Bolton's own website still quotes £8, so check the tariff boards before paying.
If you want a space arranged in advance, book an authorised private driveway through an operator such as JustPark. Listings on Ainsworth Avenue, Harrier Close and Academy Way specifically advertise stadium use. Check the actual fixture price, walking route and access instructions; advertised starting prices are not reliable matchday quotes.
Free roadside parking is reported around Ainsworth Avenue and roads off Lostock Lane, but we could not confirm unrestricted individual bays for a whole matchday visit. Treat those as local reports, not guaranteed legal spaces. There is no recommended free on-street bay in this guide.
Middlebrook Retail & Leisure Park advertises free, unrestricted parking at weekends, but it has not expressly authorised football-only parking. Tesco Horwich Extra limits parking to 90 minutes on matchdays. Horwich Parkway station parking is free for rail passengers, not a general stadium car park. Do not use any of these as a football workaround without the operator's permission.
Allow at least four hours for arriving, walking, the match and returning to your car; allow longer for a cup tie with extra time. Aim to reach your parking space around 75–90 minutes before kick-off for a busy fixture. If Car Park A is full, use a pre-booked private space or an authorised staffed matchday car park rather than circling residential streets.
Official car parks and the M61 approach can be slow to clear after full-time. Parking farther from the stadium may be worth a longer walk when a quick motorway exit matters, but check which side of the traffic you will join.
- Parking verdict
- Official parking is sensible; booking Car Park A is not required but entry is first come, first served. No specific free on-street bay could be legally verified.
- Legal restrictions — Ainsworth Avenue
- Current section-by-section legal permission for a four-to-five-hour matchday stay has not been established. Do not recommend individual public road bays.
- Legal restrictions — Lostock Lane
- The specific sections or sides with unrestricted parking were not established; industrial-estate car parks are separate private land.
- Matchday availability — Ainsworth Avenue
- Lincoln City visiting-supporter guide dated 29 August 2026 reports free spaces around Ainsworth Avenue; this is anecdotal availability, not permission.
- Matchday availability — Lostock Lane
- Recent visiting-supporter guide mentions parking on side roads off Lostock Lane. Competition and legal conditions are not confirmed.
- Walk — Car Park A
- Car Park A is at the south end of the ground, directly convenient for the visiting South Stand.
- Arrive by — Car Park A
- For a busy fixture, plan to park about 75–90 minutes before kick-off as a prudent recommendation, not an operator-set arrival deadline.
- Paid fallback — Car Park A
- £10 per car quoted by West Ham for 8 September 2026, first come first served and cashless; verify posted tariff for actual fixture.
- Paid fallback — official old tariff
- £8 is still stated on Bolton Wanderers official parking webpage; older information conflicts with the more recent £10 away guidance.
- Paid fallback — Ainsworth Avenue driveway
- JustPark advertises private driveways on Ainsworth Avenue explicitly for football matchday parking; price depends on date and length of stay.
- Paid fallback — Harrier Close driveway
- JustPark lists bookable privately hosted spaces on Harrier Close; check individual space terms, current booking price and access.
- Paid fallback — Academy Way driveway
- JustPark lists private spaces on Academy Way; booking instructions and walking route are listing-specific.
- Paid fallback — Lostock Lane industrial sites
- Secondary guide lists matchday car parks around Lostock Lane, but current operator, availability and price were not checked.
- Booking recommendation
- An official car-park payment account registers and pays by ANPR; it does not reserve an allocated bay. A confirmed private driveway booking provides the specified parking product.
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Tesco Horwich Extra
- 90-minute free parking limit on football matchdays, according to AccessAble; not suitable for match attendance.
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Middlebrook Retail Park
- Operator says free parking for 3,000 vehicles, a six-hour maximum Monday–Friday 07:00–18:00, and no time restriction at weekends/other hours; express football-only permission not established.
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Horwich Parkway station
- TfGM says free parking is for people with valid rail tickets; do not use merely to attend football. Parking may be affected by crowd control.
- Total dwell time
- Allow at least four hours for a normal matchday visit, longer if arriving early or if cup extra time and penalties are possible; this is a practical planning allowance based on football duration and access.
- After the match
- Expect possible congestion leaving official stadium parking, especially when away supporters and motorway traffic move together; private spaces farther away may avoid some traffic but are route-dependent.

Matchday advice: You do not normally need to pre-book parking for Bolton, but arrive in good time if you want the official away car park. Car Park A is on the south side of the Toughsheet Community Stadium and operates first come, first served.
Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Horwich Parkway for Bolton Wanderers, not Bolton town-centre station. It is beside the stadium at Middlebrook, with rail services via Bolton, Manchester and Preston. Follow Arena Approach, cross Burnden Way and continue towards the South Stand if you are in the visiting allocation. Allow around ten minutes from the station rather than assuming the stadium is directly on the platform.
Bolton station is useful for meeting friends or staying in town, but you will still need a connecting train to Horwich Parkway. Check the return service for your fixture, particularly for evening kick-offs or cup matches that might go to extra time. Crowd movements can slow the walk back after full-time.
- Recommended rail station
- Horwich Parkway, immediately beside the stadium site
- Rail approach
- Leave Horwich Parkway along Arena Approach, cross Burnden Way and follow signs to the South Stand for visitors
- Walk from Horwich Parkway
- Allow around 10 minutes to stadium approaches; final walk to a particular turnstile varies
- Bolton station alternative
- Use Bolton for the town centre, changing to a Horwich Parkway service to reach the stadium
- Return train warning
- Allow for station crowds and check the actual last service, especially for evening fixtures
Station to ground & away entrance
Head for the South Stand if you are following the visiting allocation. From Horwich Parkway, take Arena Approach towards Burnden Way and follow the signs and stewards towards the away turnstiles on the south side of the stadium. Check your ticket for the precise block and access gate, particularly when the visiting allocation is larger than usual.
Drivers using Car Park A will already be on the right side of the ground for the away end. The Beehive on Chorley New Road is a traditional visiting-supporter meeting point, but allow time to walk back for security checks rather than arriving at the turnstiles just before kick-off.
- Visiting-supporter section
- South Stand; the exact seating allocation and entrance are ticket-specific
- Away-side car park
- Car Park A at the south end of the stadium
- Away pub meeting option

- Ticket checks
- Follow the visiting club ticket details and matchday stewards for the correct turnstile

Coaches
Away coaches
Travelling by an organised away coach is straightforward once the operator has confirmed where it is being admitted. Earlier official and visiting-club guides direct away coaches to the southern Car Park A, approached from De Havilland Way. Follow your own coach organiser's instructions rather than assuming a home-supporter coach departure area is also the visiting-coach bay.
Check your coach's set-down and collection instructions before you leave it. Parking and vehicle-release arrangements can change with the visiting allocation and police traffic management. The precise 2026/27 away-coach collection position and current coach parking charge were not independently confirmed.
- Historic away-coach parking
- South-side Car Park A is identified for away coaches in visiting guidance; recheck with organiser
- Coach access
- Use M61 Junction 6, De Havilland Way, then signed stadium access
- Travel organiser check
- Confirm coach drop-off, departure point and any holding arrangements with visiting club or coach operator
Buses
Buses & local travel
The train to Horwich Parkway is usually the simplest public-transport choice for visiting supporters, because the station is immediately beside the stadium. You can travel via Bolton or Manchester and finish the journey on foot rather than relying on a bus from Bolton town centre.
Bolton Wanderers also runs dedicated matchday buses serving surrounding communities. The club's published bus page still links to its 2025/26 timetable, so check the service operating for your particular 2026/27 fixture before making plans. Do not assume the older fares, collection stops or cup-match operation still apply. Check the return pick-up point before leaving the bus.
- Most practical connection
- Train to Horwich Parkway from Bolton or Manchester, then walk
- Dedicated matchday buses
- The club has operated dedicated matchday services from surrounding communities for home league fixtures
- Historic matchday return fare
- £7 return in the club 2025/26 announcement; not confirmed for 2026/27
- Cup fixtures
- 2025/26 club advice said cup-game buses were not automatic; confirm each cup fixture
Accessibility
Accessible journeys
Arrange accessible seating through your own club's ticket office, which receives Bolton's away wheelchair and carer allocation. For away Blue Badge parking, head for Car Park A and show your badge to the steward. Spaces are first come, first served, so contact the home club ahead of a busy fixture if your journey depends on close parking.
Horwich Parkway is recorded as step-free to both platforms, although assisted boarding should still be arranged where needed. Bolton offers audio commentary equipment for visually impaired supporters by advance request. Check the precise arrival gate, accessible route and seating position with the club before travelling rather than relying only on a standard away-end walking route.
- Away accessible parking
- Blue Badge spaces in Car Park A for visiting supporters; present badge to matchday steward
- Accessible parking reservation
- Club guidance describes Car Park A spaces as first come first served, not guaranteed by advance registration
- Accessible tickets
- Away wheelchair and carer tickets are allocated via visiting club ticket office
- Horwich Parkway step-free access
- TfGM lists category A step-free access to all platforms
- Audio commentary
- Visually impaired supporters can request a commentary receiver in advance via Bolton Wanderers
- Accessible arrival arrangements
- Confirm precise away entrance, seating level and any assistance directly with Bolton and the visiting club
After the match
After the match
If you have parked in Car Park A, expect a possible wait before joining De Havilland Way and the M61. The away end is close to the south-side car park, but that short walk does not guarantee a quick drive away. Recent visiting-supporter experience reports queues as traffic leaves the stadium site.
Rail travellers should walk back to Horwich Parkway along the signed route and allow additional time for a busy platform. If your return depends on a tight connection, check the service before kick-off and leave a sensible buffer. Private driveways towards your intended outbound route may reduce time in the stadium car-park queue, but no particular exit time can be guaranteed.
- Stadium car park exit
- Official parking may be congested after full-time; no guaranteed vehicle release time
- Station exit
- Horwich Parkway can be busy after games; allow extra walking and boarding time
- Private parking trade-off
- Some 2026 private-parking reviews report easy walks but poor southbound escapes, depending on the side of the stadium
- Public transport after evening matches
- Recheck the actual last train for the fixture; there is no universally applicable safe last departure time
Where to stay
Stay around Bolton town centre if you want pubs, food and an evening out before or after the football. Holiday Inn Bolton Centre is one established central option. From there, take a train towards Horwich Parkway for the stadium rather than walking, and check the return service for night fixtures.
Stay at Middlebrook if getting to the game with minimum fuss matters more than nightlife. The Bolton Stadium Hotel is attached to the ground, with the station about ten minutes away on foot. The retail and leisure park offers convenient places to eat, but has a different feel from Bolton town centre. You do not need a hotel for an ordinary afternoon away fixture unless your journey makes it worthwhile.
- Best base for an evening
- Bolton town centre for pubs, restaurants and rail connections
- Hotel near stadium
- Bolton Stadium Hotel is physically attached to the stadium
- Stadium hotel rail connection
- Hotel operator quotes around a 10-minute walk from Horwich Parkway
- City-centre hotel example

Bolton is an unusually simple rail away day if you use the right station: Horwich Parkway is beside the Toughsheet Community Stadium, not in Bolton town centre. For a straightforward pre-match meet, head from the station towards the Beehive, the established away pub about 10–15 minutes from the South Stand, then leave time to walk back. Supporters staying over have better drinking in Horwich itself, where The Crown, Blackedge Brewery Bar and B33R@33 form a credible pub run, but they are not last-minute ground pubs. The stadium and Middlebrook hotels are excellent for convenience; Bolton town centre is better only if you deliberately want a town-centre evening and then take the train to Horwich Parkway. Food is strongest around Middlebrook: Carrs Pasties is the local quick bite and Nam Ploy the proper sit-down option. Away supporters sit in the South Stand, whose concourse has hot food and alcohol. Do not assume the outdoor fan zone or stadium-hotel matchday bar is available: current evidence makes both home-focused, with the fan zone only occasionally admitting away supporters.

Food & quick bites
Where to grab a bite, have a proper meal or try the local matchday favourite.
Carrs Pasties - Middlebrook
The obvious local quick bite. Carrs is a Bolton institution, the Middlebrook shop is beside the stadium area, and current prices make a fresh meat-and-potato or steak pasty far better value than building lunch around a generic retail-park chain.
Toughsheet Community Stadium - South Stand away concourse
The away-end food is better documented than at many grounds: pasties, pies, burgers, hot dogs and hot drinks, with beer, cider and wine listed in the latest indexed away guide. Carrs remains the local item to look for.
Nam Ploy Bolton
The best nearby option when a pasty is not enough. Nam Ploy sits on Middlebrook, opens from noon daily and gives groups a proper Thai meal without detouring into Horwich or Bolton town centre.
Curley's Dining Rooms
A useful non-retail-park food option for supporters with time: proper fish and chips, homemade plate pies and hot barms rather than matchday fast food. It makes most sense if driving or staying around Horwich.
