BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into Toughsheet Community Stadium

Head for the South Stand if you are following the visiting allocation. From Horwich Parkway, take Arena Approach towards Burnden Way and follow the signs and stewards towards the away turnstiles on the south side of the stadium. Check your ticket for the precise block and access gate, particularly when the visiting allocation is larger than usual. Drivers using Car Park A will already be on the right side of the ground for the away end. The Beehive on Chorley New Road is a traditional visiting-supporter meeting point, but allow time to walk back for security checks rather than arriving at the turnstiles just before kick-off.

02 · Before the match

Bee Hive

12-minute walk to the ground. Daily three-meat carvery, fish and chips and hearty pies; useful if a group wants a proper meal as well as the established away-fan pint. It can become very busy and no current published away-colours rule was found. For a large following, arrive early rather than relying on a last pint.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay around Bolton town centre if you want pubs, food and an evening out before or after the football. Holiday Inn Bolton Centre is one established central option.

Bee Hive

12 min walk

Good for rail arrivals wanting an away pub · groups

The default away pub near the Toughsheet. West Ham supporters were being directed there in September 2026, and it has the space, food and early opening to work for groups rather than just drinkers.

Expect established away pub · busy matchday pub · family pub

The Crown

Good for overnight supporters · Horwich pub crawl

A good starting point if you stay or drink in Horwich rather than Middlebrook. An Oxford away-day report used it successfully before Bolton and praised the beer choice and good-value food.

Expect traditional pub · real ale · Horwich town-centre base

Before you go Do not treat it as a last-minute ground pub. Allow transport or a long walk back towards Middlebrook; away-colours policy is unpublished.

Food & drink
A full pub menu is served from late morning into the evening; a visiting Oxford supporter specifically praised the value of the food, though that 2024 report did not identify a dish.

Blackedge Brewery Bar

Good for beer enthusiasts · pizza

The most distinctive Horwich beer stop: seven hand-pulled cask ales, craft keg and fresh pizza above the brewery. Oxford supporters used it on their 2024 Bolton trip and rated the beer highly.

Expect brewery tap · craft beer · relaxed

Before you go Opening is the catch: closed Monday and Tuesday, and not open until 4pm Wednesday/Thursday and 3pm Friday. Check kick-off time before building a plan around it.

Bolton pasties and bakery food

Carrs Pasties - Middlebrook

9 min walk

Good for quick bite · local speciality

The obvious local quick bite. Carrs is a Bolton institution, the Middlebrook shop is beside the stadium area, and current prices make a fresh meat-and-potato or steak pasty far better value than building lunch around a generic retail-park chain.

Expect quick local food · Bolton speciality · takeaway

Before you go The shop closes at 6pm Monday–Saturday and 5pm Sunday; for evening kick-offs buy before the game rather than expecting a post-match stop.

Food & drink
Meat and potato pasty £2.60, steak £2.90, chicken curry £2.80, vegetable £2.55 and Lancashire potato hash £3.00 on the current shop listing.

Thai

Nam Ploy Bolton

9 min walk

Good for proper meal near the ground · groups

The best nearby option when a pasty is not enough. Nam Ploy sits on Middlebrook, opens from noon daily and gives groups a proper Thai meal without detouring into Horwich or Bolton town centre.

Expect proper sit-down meal · Middlebrook · groups

Before you go No current football-specific away-colours or door policy was found. Book for busy fixtures if the meal matters; do not treat the restaurant bar as a guaranteed away pub.

Curley's Dining Rooms

Good for fish and chips · homemade pie

A useful non-retail-park food option for supporters with time: proper fish and chips, homemade plate pies and hot barms rather than matchday fast food. It makes most sense if driving or staying around Horwich.

Expect casual dining · traditional British food · early-arrival stop

Before you go It is about 1.5 miles from the stadium and food orders end by late afternoon, so it is not suitable for a rushed evening arrival.

Food & drink
Fresh haddock or jumbo cod with chips and mushy peas, homemade mince-and-onion or cheese-and-onion plate pie, and hot beef-and-onion barms.

Toughsheet Community Stadium - South Stand away concourse

0 min walk

Good for supporters already inside · hot food

The away-end food is better documented than at many grounds: pasties, pies, burgers, hot dogs and hot drinks, with beer, cider and wine listed in the latest indexed away guide. Carrs remains the local item to look for.

Expect away end · cashless · football concourse

Before you go The stadium is cashless. Current-season prices were not published in the September 2026 match pack, so older photographed meal-deal prices have not been carried forward.

Food & drink
The latest indexed away guide lists pasties, pies, flame-grilled cheeseburgers and hot dogs plus Bean2Cup tea and coffee. The September 2026 match pack confirms Carrs pasty booths, vegan pasties and alcohol-free beer throughout the stadium.

WHERE TO STAY

Where should you stay?

Choose a base for the football and the rest of your visit.

Where to stay

Stay around Bolton town centre if you want pubs, food and an evening out before or after the football. Holiday Inn Bolton Centre is one established central option. From there, take a train towards Horwich Parkway for the stadium rather than walking, and check the return service for night fixtures. Stay at Middlebrook if getting to the game with minimum fuss matters more than nightlife. The Bolton Stadium Hotel is attached to the ground, with the station about ten minutes away on foot. The retail and leisure park offers convenient places to eat, but has a different feel from Bolton town centre. You do not need a hotel for an ordinary afternoon away fixture unless your journey makes it worthwhile.

Holiday Inn Bolton Centre ↗

For the best all-round overnight football trip, Bolton town centre makes more sense if you want proper pubs, food and drinks after the match: stay centrally and use the direct train from Bolton to Horwich Parkway. If getting in and out of the ground with minimum fuss matters more than the evening, stay at the stadium/Middlebrook instead.

For the evening

Bolton town centre is the stronger base for the evening. Visit Bolton's current guide highlights town-centre venues including Hogarths, Northern Monkey Bar, The Definitely Maybe Bar and Ye Olde Man & Scythe, which gives the centre a much broader pub/bar choice than the stadium retail park.

For the train

Bolton and Horwich Parkway are directly linked by train, with an indicative journey time of about 6 minutes. The stadium hotel is around a 10-minute walk from Horwich Parkway. For town-centre stays, check the post-match timetable rather than assuming a late service will always suit.
