FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW SWANSEA CITY TO CARDIFF CITY

This fixture is still months away, on 13 March. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Swansea City are involved in the promotion picture by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Recent results give Swansea City twelve points from a possible fifteen, with four wins and one defeat in their last five league games. Over their last five recorded league games, Cardiff City have taken seven points from a possible fifteen: two wins, one draw and two defeats. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

Swansea City are 1st in the Championship after 11 league games, with 23 points. The pre-season outlook had them down as a side with survival to secure. Their position is more encouraging than that starting outlook.

Cardiff City are 19th in the Championship after 11 league games, with 11 points. They started the campaign regarded as a side likely to face a survival fight.

The destination is Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. Use the city centre if the trip includes a train journey, a proper evening out or an early departure the next morning. Choose Pontcanna/Riverside instead if reducing the stadium walk matters more than being directly in the St Mary Street nightlife core. There is an established rivalry here, which gives the away end an extra reason to turn out. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

For Swansea City supporters, the point of the trip is being there for the team. Once tickets and kick-off are confirmed, work out whether the journey home leaves time for a meal or a drink, or whether a night away makes the better day of it.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Clayton Hotel Cardiff

Clayton Hotel Cardiff

Cardiff city centre / St Mary Street

Our best all-round Cardiff City stay. Clayton is not the closest bed to the ground, but it solves more of the football-trip problem than the closer options: Cardiff Central is virtually on the doorstep, St Mary Street and Mill Lane cover the post-match food and drink, and it has the scale and facilities of a proper city-centre hotel.

  • Very strong rail arrival/departure location beside Cardiff Central.
  • Immediate access to St Mary Street, Mill Lane and the wider city-centre food/drink offer.
The match journey

Approximate hotel-to-stadium relationship, not a turn-by-turn route measurement. The club states Cardiff city centre/Cardiff Central is about 1.5 miles from the stadium and describes the walk southwest through Riverside. Expect urban road crossings; use the matchday shuttle or a short local rail/taxi option if the weather is poor.

The trade-off

It is a city-centre choice rather than a stadium-area choice; allow roughly half an hour on foot to the ground.

WHY STAY HERE?

Clayton Hotel Cardiff

Cardiff city centre / St Mary Street

Our view

Our best all-round Cardiff City stay. Clayton is not the closest bed to the ground, but it solves more of the football-trip problem than the closer options: Cardiff Central is virtually on the doorstep, St Mary Street and Mill Lane cover the post-match food and drink, and it has the scale and facilities of a proper city-centre hotel. For most rail travellers, that is a better overnight trade than shaving several minutes off the walk to Leckwith.

Why it suits this trip

  • Very strong rail arrival/departure location beside Cardiff Central.
  • Immediate access to St Mary Street, Mill Lane and the wider city-centre food/drink offer.
  • Large current review base with recurring praise for location, staff and comfortable rooms.
  • Booking.com coverage is verified and normally gives a usable mid-range option outside major-event spikes.
  • The official club's matchday shuttle also runs between the stadium and Wood Street in the city-centre area.

Getting to the ground

Approximate hotel-to-stadium relationship, not a turn-by-turn route measurement. The club states Cardiff city centre/Cardiff Central is about 1.5 miles from the stadium and describes the walk southwest through Riverside. Expect urban road crossings; use the matchday shuttle or a short local rail/taxi option if the weather is poor.

Pubs and the evening

One of the strongest positions for a supporter who wants drinks and food after the match without then travelling again. The hotel is on St Mary Street and very close to Mill Lane.

Arriving by train

The official Clayton site markets the hotel as being beside Cardiff Central; this is one of its main football-trip advantages.

The trade-offs

  • It is a city-centre choice rather than a stadium-area choice; allow roughly half an hour on foot to the ground.
  • No on-site hotel parking; public parking is nearby.
  • Recent reviews are not uniformly four-star: some mention tired rooms, HVAC/no in-room temperature control, lift/maintenance issues and occasional cleanliness shortcomings.
  • St Mary Street is lively; event weekends can be noisy and prices can jump sharply.

Research price context

Typically around £95–£180 on sampled midweek nights and roughly £75–£150 on quieter sampled Friday/Saturday nights. This sample did not show a stable weekend premium; season and city events had more effect than day-of-week alone.

Pontcanna Inn

Pontcanna Inn

Pontcanna / Cathedral Road

Our closest practical choice for supporters who still want a private en-suite, food and drink on site and an easy walk into central Cardiff. It sits around the same broad stadium-distance band as The Riverhouse, but its hotel-style en-suite rooms make it the more straightforward recommendation for a general audience. The compromise is obvious: the rooms are above a lively pub.

  • One of the closest credible overnight options we found that still feels like a conventional private en-suite stay.
  • Cathedral Road/Pontcanna is calmer than St Mary Street while still being walkable into the centre.
The match journey

Published hotel-listing distance is about 0.9 miles; practical walking route will be longer than straight-line/listing distance. Pontcanna is already west of the city-centre core, so the walk avoids returning into central Cardiff after the match.

The trade-off

This is a pub with only 10 rooms, so football/event dates can disappear from sale quickly.

Our closest practical choice for supporters who still want a private en-suite, food and drink on site and an easy walk into central Cardiff. It sits around the same broad stadium-distance band as The Riverhouse, but its hotel-style en-suite rooms make it the more straightforward recommendation for a general audience. Why it suits this trip

  • One of the closest credible overnight options we found that still feels like a conventional private en-suite stay.
  • Cathedral Road/Pontcanna is calmer than St Mary Street while still being walkable into the centre.
  • Food, beer and live sport are downstairs, useful before or after a fixture.
  • Recent room reviews are consistently strong on cleanliness, comfort and staff.
  • Booking.com coverage is verified.

Getting to the ground

Published hotel-listing distance is about 0.9 miles; practical walking route will be longer than straight-line/listing distance. Pontcanna is already west of the city-centre core, so the walk avoids returning into central Cardiff after the match.

Pubs and the evening

The pub itself provides a lively evening and Pontcanna has its own food/drink scene. For the densest late-night choice, St Mary Street remains stronger.

Arriving by train

Cardiff Central is walkable or a short taxi away, but this is not a station-door hotel.

The trade-offs

  • This is a pub with only 10 rooms, so football/event dates can disappear from sale quickly.
  • There is no on-site parking.
  • Some guests report bass/crowd noise from the pub on busy nights, although other rooms/reviews report little or no disturbance.
  • It is less convenient for Cardiff Central than the city-centre hotels.

Research price context

Typically around £95–£125 on sampled midweek nights and roughly £75–£165 on sampled Friday/Saturday nights. The sampled weekend average was about 16% higher, but the small 10-room inventory makes individual dates volatile.

Royal Hotel Cardiff by Belvilla

Cardiff city centre / St Mary Street

The nightlife choice because it is actually on St Mary Street rather than merely near the centre. You can come back from the match, eat and drink in the main central cluster, and walk straight to the hotel. It also tends to price below the smarter four-star city-centre properties on ordinary midweeks. We would not make it the overall recommendation because the current quality/access evidence is more mixed.

  • Immediate St Mary Street nightlife, restaurants and bars.
  • Very close to Cardiff Central for an away trip by train.
The match journey

Approximate listing-distance relationship; actual walking route is longer. The route follows the same general city-centre-to-Riverside/Leckwith direction described by the club. For an evening game, consider the club shuttle back to Wood Street and then walk a few minutes to the hotel.

The trade-off

St Mary Street can be noisy; room position and glazing matter.

Why it suits this trip

  • Immediate St Mary Street nightlife, restaurants and bars.
  • Very close to Cardiff Central for an away trip by train.
  • Historic Cardiff hotel with a large body of current guest evidence.
  • Often strong midweek value compared with the premium city-centre hotels.
  • Booking.com coverage is verified.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel is directly on Cardiff's late-night central strip; this is the strongest category-specific reason to choose it.

Arriving by train

Tripadvisor's current property description places Cardiff Central roughly 250 metres away; excellent for rail travellers.

The trade-offs

  • St Mary Street can be noisy; room position and glazing matter.
  • The internal stair/lift layout can be awkward, particularly with luggage or mobility requirements.
  • Recent reviews include some cleanliness/maintenance inconsistency and complaints about refund/overcharge follow-up.
  • Match/event nights can erase the normal value advantage very quickly.

Research price context

Typically around £80–£95 on sampled midweek nights and roughly £75–£140 on sampled Friday/Saturday nights. The sampled weekend average was about 30% higher; a separate home-match sample exceeded £200.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cardiff City Stadium

The ground

Swansea City at Cardiff City

Cardiff City Stadium is a modern bowl rather than the irregular old Ninian Park, but it is less anonymous when read through its named stands and heritage. The Canton Stand is the main noise/safe-standing area; the Ninian Stand is the largest side and carries photographic history displays; the stadium district contains the Fred Keenor statue and memorial garden.

Recorded capacity
33,260

Views from the away section

Generally very good with good legroom.

Supporter observation

Current visitor material describes Cardiff’s away corner as giving a surprisingly good view, with multiple access points making movement between seats and concourse relatively quick.

Why the ground matters

The most important thing about Cardiff's stadium history is continuity rather than simple replacement. Ninian Park supplied the club's most romantic and intimidating memories; Cardiff City Stadium supplied the capacity, sightlines and infrastructure needed for modern top-level football. Because the new ground sits close to the old site, supporters can move between those histories on foot and even locate the old centre spot.

Layout and character

Ninian Park's character survives through memory of the Bob Bank, Grange End, iconic floodlights, Captain Morgan roof advert and famous cup/European nights.

Canton Stand

Main organised home-atmosphere end; includes licensed safe-standing sections.

Ninian Stand

Largest side after the 2014 upper-tier expansion; its concourses include photographic timelines of club history.

Away quadrant

Current away placement is normally in the corner beside the Family/Grange side and Ninian Stand, subject to fixture-specific operations.

Bob Bank (Ninian Park, historical)

Popular Bank terrace known from its one-shilling admission price and later the long-lived Captain Morgan roof advert.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Swansea City at Cardiff City

The enclosed away section has good acoustics.

Do the Ayatollah

A chant/request linked to the overhead hand gesture. It works as a recognition signal between team and crowd as much as a conventional song.

Men of Harlech

Supporter interpretation

A Welsh song with a Cardiff terrace history, but supporter discussion indicates generational disagreement about how central it should be today.

The Ayatollah gesture

Hands held flat above the head and moved up and down; one of Cardiff's most distinctive supporter gestures, with a contested origin story around 1990.

Memorial applause and banners

Supporter interpretation

The 14th-minute applause and Canton Stand banner for Sol Bamba show how the crowd can turn player memory into repeatable matchday ritual.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cardiff City Stadium

Food & drink

Swansea City at Cardiff City

Cardiff is best treated as a city-centre away day with a useful second cluster in Canton. Cardiff Central is the long-distance rail base; from there the club gives 25 minutes on foot to Cardiff City Stadium, or take the local train to Ninian Park for the short final walk. The Great Western is the clearest current station-side meeting pub, while City Arms is a better cask-beer stop.

Food and drink around the ground

Closer in, The Lansdowne remains the traditional away pub and Gôl is the strongest near-ground option, with current parking material explicitly welcoming both home and away fans. Colours are less certain than admission: current home-fan discussion says visiting support is common but also suggests many away fans avoid wearing colours, so check higher-risk fixtures.

For food, use Canton Fish Bar or Calabrisella on the way west, or Cardiff Market for Welsh cakes and independent street food before leaving town. Visitors enter through Gate 12; the away concourse is cashless and has food and drink, but exact stock can vary.

The Great Western

The clearest current rail-arrival pub. Cardiff home supporters said in January 2026 that The Great Western had become the place for away fans and was the one city-centre pub they regularly saw packed with visitors.

Accessibility

Swansea City at Cardiff City

Arrange away wheelchair seating and accessible parking through your visiting club before travelling. Cardiff has a designated accessible allocation in the away compound, reached from Sloper Road, and accessible entry at Gate 12. The club describes flat tarmac around that car park. Do not assume a Blue Badge alone reserves a space: permits are allocated through the visiting club.

Accessible journeys

Ninian Park station has step-free approaches to both platforms, but one ramp is steep, so it may not suit every wheelchair or mobility-scooter user. Grangetown has stairs-only access. Cardiff Central is the better railway starting point for many accessible journeys, provided you arrange suitable onward transport.

Rail, Underground & tram

Walking from Cardiff Central takes about 25 minutes, following the route southwest of the Principality Stadium through Riverside towards Leckwith. That is a useful alternative if train connections are awkward, especially after an evening match. Grangetown is another local rail option, around ten minutes' walk from the stadium, but its platforms are reached by stairs. Ninian Park has ramps, including a steep approach to one platform, so arrange assistance if needed.

Station to ground & away entrance

Go straight to Gate 12 for the away end. It is on the Sloper Road side, beside the designated away coach and car compound, rather than at the main home-supporter entrance. If you have driven, follow the stadium signs from the Sector V car park towards that gate. From Ninian Park station, leave onto Leckwith Road and follow the stadium perimeter to the away entrance, not simply to the first turnstiles you see.

From Cardiff Central, head southwest through Riverside and towards Sloper Road. Keep your ticket ready, allow time for security searches and check the precise block or turnstile on your ticket.

Buses & local travel

Use the Cardiff Bus matchday shuttle if you are starting in the city centre. For the 2026/27 league season, it runs as route 95 from Wood Street stop JB, every 15 minutes from two hours before kick-off until 15 minutes before. Normal bus fares and the operator's usual passes apply. Return shuttles run until the crowds have cleared. Regular route 95 also serves the Leckwith Road Asda stop opposite the stadium.

Routes 92, 93 and 94 stop at Ninian Park School, about ten minutes away, while circular routes 1 and 2 serve Sloper Road. Check the direction of the circular route and the stop you need after full-time. There is no verified dedicated football park-and-ride service operating for every Cardiff home fixture. Use the published shuttle or a separate booked parking product instead of assuming a special service will run.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cardiff City Stadium

Parking

Swansea City at Cardiff City

Use the away car park at Cardiff City Stadium if you want the shortest walk, but arrive early and bring cash. Sector V is off Sloper Road, CF11 8AW, immediately beside the away entrance. Cardiff's latest available away guide prices it at £10 per car, with no advance booking and spaces issued first come, first served. You may have to wait before driving out after the match.

Parking & park-and-ride

There is no named residential street we can confidently recommend as free for a full match visit. Permit bays, waiting restrictions and matchday enforcement affect the neighbourhood. Even when a kerbside space appears empty, you must check its own signs. Reports of available street parking are not proof that it is permitted.

For a guaranteed booking rather than an on-the-day gamble, reserve an authorised driveway or off-street space through JustPark or YourParkingSpace. Advertised locations include Leckwith Close, Bartley Wilson Way and Sloper Road. Check the booking's exact address, arrival window and whether access is affected by the closures. Prices vary with the fixture. Pontcanna Fields council car park is a longer-stay alternative if you are happy with a longer onward journey.

It is open 24 hours and costs £6.50 for over four hours Monday to Saturday, or £2.50 for over four hours on Sundays. Short-stay council sites in Canton, including Gray Street, have a four-hour limit, so they are not a safe full-match fallback. Allow four to five hours for football, including both walks, pre-match arrival, the game and traffic delays. Do not use the retail park beside the stadium: Cardiff specifically warns that matchday vehicles are ticketed.

A separate authorised private booking is not the same as leaving a car in an ordinary shopper's bay.

Driving & road restrictions

Set your sat-nav to the visitors' compound at CF11 8AW, rather than just the stadium's main reception. From the M4, use junction 33 and the A4232 towards Cardiff and Barry, then the B4267 stadium exit. Follow Hadfield Road into Bessemer Road, turn left onto Sloper Road and follow signs into Clos Parc Morgannwg. The club warns that some sat-nav routes take drivers through the city centre and add unnecessary congestion.

Follow matchday electronic signs on your approach. Stadium parking can shut to arrivals about 30 minutes before kick-off. After full-time, the club describes managed closures around Sloper Road and Leckwith Road, sometimes lasting up to an hour. Check any temporary roadworks and the actual fixture instructions before setting off.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cardiff City Stadium

Worth knowing

Swansea City at Cardiff City

An away supporter now meets a modern, comparatively comfortable stadium rather than the cramped and often intimidating physical environment associated with old Ninian Park. The useful identity detail is the contrast: current good sightlines and concourses sit within a district still full of Ninian references, while the Canton Stand carries most of the home noise.

Matchday features

21 away wheelchair positions. Spacious concourse. Good acoustics

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

The stadium is modern but not geographically detached from the old club

Knowing that Ninian Park stood almost next door changes the feel of the visit; this is continuity of place rather than a relocation story.

The Canton Stand is where much of the home vocal energy is concentrated

Its safe-standing provision supports a more active home end than the bowl shape alone might suggest.

The Bluebird and blue are loaded symbols

They can look like ordinary branding to a neutral visitor, but the 2012-15 rebrand made both symbols part of a documented supporter campaign.

Heritage is visible around the ground

The Fred Keenor statue, memorial garden and Ninian references are more revealing than generic stadium architecture.

How close the old and new grounds are

This is not a club that left its neighbourhood for an out-of-town bowl; the physical continuity explains why Ninian Park remains so present in current matchday language.

The Fred Keenor statue

It tells you immediately which achievement the club has chosen to monumentalise.

The memorial garden

Easy to mistake for a peripheral landscaped area, but it is a supporter remembrance space with plots, memorial work and volunteer maintenance.

The Ninian Stand timelines

A visitor interested in identity should look at the concourse history rather than treating the stand only as seating.

Sol Bamba mural in nearby Grangetown

Not inside the stadium, but close enough to form part of the football neighbourhood and a strong recent example of community-made club memory.

Fred Keenor statue

A supporter-led monument to the 1927 captain outside the modern stadium.

Memorial garden

Opened in 2012 and maintained as a living place of remembrance for supporters.

Old Ninian Park centre spot

Marked within the housing development on Bartley Wilson Way, close enough for a visitor to understand exactly how short the move was.

Ninian Stand history displays

Photographic timelines in the concourse deliberately bring the club's past into the new ground.

Rail, Underground & tram

Use Cardiff Central for the easiest long-distance arrival, then take a local train to Ninian Park if it serves your match. Ninian Park is only about five minutes from the stadium, though you must still follow signs round to the away entrance at Gate 12. The club says there is normally no Sunday service to Ninian Park, so check the timetable before relying on it.

Away coaches

Official away coaches and minibuses use the visitors' compound in Car Park Sector V, reached from Sloper Road via Clos Parc Morgannwg. The club says coach and minibus parking there is free. The compound is immediately beside Gate 12, so you should not need a long walk after being dropped off.

Before leaving the coach, ask your organiser where to meet after full-time and whether police or stewards will hold the departure. Stadium traffic management can delay vehicles, and the final exit route depends on the matchday arrangements. Independent coach operators should confirm access with Cardiff City rather than using ordinary roadside stops.

Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Arrange away wheelchair seating and accessible parking through your visiting club before travelling. Cardiff has a designated accessible allocation in the away compound, reached from Sloper Road, and accessible entry at Gate 12. The club describes flat tarmac around that car park. Do not assume a Blue Badge alone reserves a space: permits are allocated through the visiting club.

Contact Cardiff City's Disability Access Officer, Billy Gregory, at billy.gregory@cardiffcityfc.co.uk with any questions about seating, the away parking allocation or your route from drop-off to the entrance.

After the match

After the match

Expect a delay if you have parked in Sector V beside the away end. Cardiff's stadium guide describes a car-park exit hold of up to 30 minutes after full-time and traffic closures around Sloper Road and Leckwith Road that can last longer. A booked space farther out may avoid part of that queue, but it will mean a longer walk and does not guarantee a quick getaway.

If you are going back to Cardiff Central, the route 95 matchday shuttle returns towards Wood Street until crowds have cleared. Ninian Park is closer if trains are running, but check the service before kick-off and leave enough time for the walk from Gate 12. For Sunday games, plan around the absence of a normal Ninian Park service.

Where to stay

Stay near Cardiff Central if you are arriving by train or want a proper evening in the city. It puts restaurants, pubs and St Mary Street within easy reach, with a roughly 25-minute walk or the matchday bus to the ground. For a late finish, you will also have a simpler route back to your hotel than relying on a local rail connection.

Pontcanna and Riverside are useful alternatives if you prefer a quieter neighbourhood and a shorter journey towards Leckwith. They have pubs and food without the busiest city-centre streets, although your exact walk to Gate 12 depends on where you stay.

There is little reason to choose accommodation immediately beside the stadium purely for matchday access. Check hotel rates against other events in Cardiff, particularly rugby and concerts, and arrange your return transport before booking.

Cardiff Central / St Mary Street side of the centre for trains, food, pubs and shuttle
Quieter alternative
Pontcanna/Riverside neighbourhood, nearer the stadium side than central nightlife
Useful local hotel example
Pontcanna Inn, Cathedral Road, small pub with rooms close to city centre
Stadium to city centre on foot
Club says roughly 1.5 miles or about 25 minutes from Cardiff Central area

Cardiff is best treated as a city-centre away day with a useful second cluster in Canton. Cardiff Central is the long-distance rail base; from there the club gives 25 minutes on foot to Cardiff City Stadium, or take the local train to Ninian Park for the short final walk. The Great Western is the clearest current station-side meeting pub, while City Arms is a better cask-beer stop.

PUB / BAR

The Lansdowne

71 Beda Road, Canton, Cardiff CF5 1LX
15 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORa pint closer to the ground · proper pub food · real ale · Canton stays
MATCHDAY INTELStill the traditional named away pub in Canton, with a much better food offer than most football pubs. Current away guidance keeps it on the shortlist, although Cardiff supporters say it can feel overwhelmingly home-fan on matchdays.
WORTH KNOWINGIt gets busy and colours are not formally covered by a current venue policy. For higher-risk games, ring ahead rather than relying on its long-standing reputation.
PUB / BAR

Gôl Centres Cardiff

Lawrenny Avenue, Cardiff CF11 8BR
5 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORa pint close to Gate 12 · drivers · families · cheap hot food
MATCHDAY INTELThe strongest near-ground choice. Current Cardiff City match-parking material explicitly welcomes home and away fans, and the clubhouse has a licensed bar, live sport and straightforward hot food five minutes from the stadium.
WORTH KNOWINGParking and bar arrangements are sold per fixture, so check the event listing. No current published rule confirms that away colours are always accepted inside the clubhouse.
PUB / BAR

The Great Western

64 St Mary Street, Cardiff CF10 1FA
28 min walkAway fans welcomeFood available
BEST FORCardiff Central arrivals · large groups meeting in town · early kick-offs
MATCHDAY INTELThe clearest current rail-arrival pub. Cardiff home supporters said in January 2026 that The Great Western had become the place for away fans and was the one city-centre pub they regularly saw packed with visitors.
WORTH KNOWINGAway-colours policy is not published. Current Cardiff supporters also note that many visiting fans in town do not wear colours, so do not assume every fixture is relaxed.
PUB / BAR

The Grange

134 Penarth Road, Cardiff CF11 6NJ
20 min walkAway access: checkFood available
BEST FORproper pub food · supporters walking from Central · mixed groups · Grangetown stays
MATCHDAY INTELA useful independent alternative on the south-west side of the centre. Visiting Lincoln supporters were pointed here in March 2026, while Cardiff fans separately report seeing away supporters in the pub.
WORTH KNOWINGOne 2026 report mentioned an early opening specifically for that fixture; do not treat special opening times as permanent. Away-colours policy is not published.
PUB / BAR

City Arms

Quay Street, Cardiff CF10 1EA
28 min walkAway access: check
BEST FORreal ale · city-centre meeting · supporters avoiding the immediate ground pubs
MATCHDAY INTELA better beer-led city-centre choice than a generic sports bar. Current away guidance lists it as home-and-away friendly, and Cardiff supporters said in January 2026 they would expect a small, sensible away group to be fine.
WORTH KNOWINGThat is supporter guidance rather than a published football door policy. Away colours remain unverified and the city centre can be heavily policed for higher-risk fixtures.

FOOD

Canton Fish Bar

212 Cowbridge Road East, Cardiff CF5 1GX
Where it isCowbridge Road East in Canton, on the western side of the city-centre approach and useful before continuing towards Leckwith. It is a food stop rather than an away pub.View on map ↗
fish and chipsindependent takeaway
What to eatMade-to-order fish and chips using MSC-certified Atlantic cod, Maris Piper chips and potato fritters; phone-ahead collection is available.

A proper independent chippy on the Canton route rather than stadium catering. Fish is cooked to order, with cod, Maris Piper chips and potato fritters, and the long Saturday opening makes it practical for most kick-off times.

Away fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORquick food · fish and chips · supporters walking through Canton · phone-ahead collection
WORTH KNOWINGClosed Sundays. The online menu is currently being updated, so do not rely on old prices; phone ahead if timing is tight.
FOOD

Calabrisella Canton

Where it isLower Canton/Pontcanna end of Cowbridge Road East. It suits supporters wanting a proper meal before continuing west towards the ground, especially those staying around Canton.View on map ↗
Calabrian Italianrestaurant and takeaway
What to eatHandmade pasta, real Italian pizza, quick takeaway panini, Italian-style breakfast and artisan gelato.

A useful proper-meal option on Cowbridge Road East: handmade pasta and pizza if there is time to sit down, or panini for something quicker. It is especially handy for supporters staying around Canton.

Away fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORproper meal · families · groups · pizza and pasta
WORTH KNOWINGThis is a restaurant, not a football venue; no matchday colours policy was found. Groups over six are allocated a two-hour table slot, so booking is sensible.
FOOD

Cardiff Bakestones

Cardiff Market, St Mary Street, Cardiff CF10 1AU
Where it isInside Cardiff Market, about seven minutes on foot from Cardiff Central. This is a train-arrival snack before the 25–30 minute walk west to the ground, not a near-stadium stop.30 min walk to the groundView on map ↗
Welsh cakesmarket bakery stall
What to eatWarm Welsh cakes hand-rolled and cooked on a traditional bakestone, including classic and flavoured versions; Visit Wales also notes vegan and diabetic-friendly daily variations.

For something unmistakably Welsh before the football, stop at Cardiff Market for a warm cake straight from the bakestone. It is quick, inexpensive in spirit and far more distinctive than filling up at a station chain.

30 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORWelsh speciality · train arrivals · quick food · families
WORTH KNOWINGCardiff Market closes at 5pm Monday–Saturday and is closed Sundays, so it does not work for Sunday fixtures or late evening arrivals.
FOOD

The Bearded Taco - Cardiff Market

Units 15–17, Cardiff Market, St Mary Street, Cardiff CF10 1AU
Where it isInside Cardiff Market, around seven minutes from Cardiff Central and suitable for an early lunch before walking or taking the local train towards the stadium.30 min walk to the groundView on map ↗
Mexican street foodmarket counter
What to eatAward-winning tacos, quesadillas and nachos; its tacos use hand-rolled gluten-free corn tortillas and fresh fusion fillings.

A more substantial Cardiff Market stop than a snack: tacos, quesadillas and nachos from an established local street-food trader. It lets a group eat quickly in town without committing to a sit-down meal.

30 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORquick substantial lunch · train arrivals · groups wanting different market choices
WORTH KNOWINGThe market stall shuts at 4pm and is closed Sundays; it is therefore mainly a Saturday lunchtime or daytime-fixture option.
FOOD

Cardiff City Stadium - away concourse

Cardiff City Stadium, Leckwith Road, Cardiff CF11 8AZ
Where it isInside the Away Quadrant reached through Gate 12. Current club material calls the stadium-wide offer extensive, but not every premium item is confirmed in the visiting concourse.0 min walk to the groundView on map ↗
stadium concessionscashless away-concourse kiosks
What to eatAway-concourse food and drink are confirmed. Current stadium-wide club material highlights Buffalo Chicken Burger and fish and chips, while current ground guidance reports pies, sausage rolls and hot dogs at most kiosks.

Once through Gate 12, the away concourse is the reliable fallback for food and drink. Cardiff’s stadium offer is broader than basic pies, but the club’s detailed menu is stadium-wide rather than a guarantee of every item in the away section.

0 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood availableAway colours OK
BEST FORsupporters already through Gate 12 · fallback food · beer and hot drinks
WORTH KNOWINGAll kiosks are cashless. Exact away-concourse products and prices were not published for 2026/27, so stadium-wide specials should not be promised to visitors.
FOOD

Matsudai Ramen

183–185 Clare Road, Cardiff CF11 6QS
Where it isGrangetown, useful for supporters staying south-west of the centre or eating before an evening in Cardiff. It is not a rush-to-kick-off option because service hours are limited.View on map ↗
ramen and Japanese small platessit-down restaurantramen roughly £16–£20; selected £10 ramen periods
What to eatTantanmen, yuzu shio ramen, karaage and vegan alternatives; current offers include £10 ramen during selected early-evening and Saturday lunch periods with a drink purchase.

Worth knowing for an overnight trip rather than a frantic pre-match dash. Matsudai is one of Cardiff’s stronger independent food destinations, with serious ramen and useful Saturday-lunch service in Grangetown.

BEST FORovernight supporters · ramen · Saturday lunch · post-match meal when opening fits
WORTH KNOWINGKitchen hours are limited: mainly Wednesday–Saturday evenings, plus Saturday lunch. Check the current slot before planning it around kick-off.
