FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW STOKE CITY TO SWANSEA CITY

This fixture is still months away, on 6 March. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Stoke City are involved in the promotion picture by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Stoke City are 6th in the Championship after 11 league games, with 19 points. Their league position and recent results are the clearest guide to the task here.

Swansea City are 1st in the Championship after 11 league games, with 23 points. The pre-season outlook had them down as a side with survival to secure. Their position is more encouraging than that starting outlook.

Stoke City's last five recorded league games brought four wins and one defeat: twelve points from a possible fifteen. Recent results give Swansea City twelve points from a possible fifteen, with four wins and one defeat in their last five league games. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

The destination is Swansea.com Stadium in Swansea. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For a normal football weekend, base yourself in the city centre or on the city-centre side of the Maritime Quarter rather than trying to stay in Landore. Somerset Place/Wind Street works best if food and drinks matter; High Street by the railway station is the practical choice if arrival/departure and the shortest sensible stadium walk matter most. Drivers who value parking and leisure facilities can look east towards the waterfront, but they give up some evening convenience. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

Make the football the reason to go and give yourself enough time to enjoy it. Check the confirmed kick-off and ticket arrangements before committing to travel or a hotel, then choose the plan that lets you support Stoke City from the away end without rushing the whole day.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Our all-round pickBalance the match and the stay
Morgans Hotel

Morgans Hotel

Somerset Place / Maritime Quarter edge

Our overall recommendation and the best pick for supporters who want somewhere good to stay as well as somewhere sensible for the match. Morgans is between the city centre and marina, close to Wind Street without being a generic late-night budget stop, and its current review picture is materially stronger than the most convenient station-side alternative.

  • Strong current reputation for location, staff, cleanliness and comfort across major review platforms.
  • Excellent position for Wind Street, city-centre restaurants and post-match drinks.
The match journey

The official away-supporter guide describes Morgans as approximately two miles from Swansea.com Stadium. The walk is realistic for a fit supporter in decent weather, but a taxi/bus is the more comfortable post-match choice, especially at night.

The trade-off

At roughly two miles from the stadium it is not the closest practical hotel.

WHY STAY HERE?

Morgans Hotel

Somerset Place / Maritime Quarter edge

Our view

Our overall recommendation and the best pick for supporters who want somewhere good to stay as well as somewhere sensible for the match. Morgans is between the city centre and marina, close to Wind Street without being a generic late-night budget stop, and its current review picture is materially stronger than the most convenient station-side alternative. The downside is the ground: the club puts Morgans at roughly two miles from the stadium, so it is a longer walk than The Grand and many supporters will choose a bus or taxi.

Why it suits this trip

  • Strong current reputation for location, staff, cleanliness and comfort across major review platforms.
  • Excellent position for Wind Street, city-centre restaurants and post-match drinks.
  • Still walkable from Swansea railway station and straightforward for a short taxi to/from the stadium.
  • Verified current Booking.com coverage.
  • Independent/boutique character gives it more sense of place than the obvious chain alternatives.

Getting to the ground

The official away-supporter guide describes Morgans as approximately two miles from Swansea.com Stadium. The walk is realistic for a fit supporter in decent weather, but a taxi/bus is the more comfortable post-match choice, especially at night.

Pubs and the evening

Somerset Place sits immediately off the city-centre nightlife axis. Wind Street is the main official-tourism nightlife cluster, so Morgans gives easy access to bars and food without requiring a stay directly above the busiest late-night strip.

Arriving by train

Current travel-platform mapping places the hotel at roughly an 11-minute walk from Swansea station. It is less immediate than The Grand but still practical with luggage.

The trade-offs

  • At roughly two miles from the stadium it is not the closest practical hotel.
  • Usually costs more than ibis and often more than The Grand.
  • Recent individual reviews mention noise from private functions or ground-floor/corridor activity; a quiet-room request is sensible for a Saturday stay.
  • Room character/condition is not completely uniform across the main hotel and townhouse inventory.

Research price context

In the six-date sample, Morgans averaged about £131 midweek and £153 at weekends. Midweek was unusually steady at roughly £128–£133; sampled weekends ranged from about £133 to £177, so Saturday pricing can move materially.

Closest to the groundPut the stadium journey first
The Grand Hotel Swansea

The Grand Hotel Swansea

High Street / Swansea railway station

The best answer to 'closest practical', particularly for supporters arriving by train. The stadium's own event FAQ names The Grand as the nearest accommodation at about 1.5 miles, and it is directly opposite Swansea station. It is also materially cheaper than Morgans in the sampled baseline.

  • Identified by the stadium as the nearest accommodation at roughly 1.5 miles.
  • Directly opposite Swansea railway station, excellent for luggage and late train arrivals.
The match journey

The stadium FAQ identifies The Grand as the nearest accommodation at approximately 1.5 miles. Club travel guidance also puts Swansea station at about 1.5 miles from the ground, and The Grand is immediately opposite the station. Allow roughly 20–30 minutes on foot depending on pace and matchday pedestrian conditions.

The trade-off

Current 2026 review evidence is inconsistent and includes repeated maintenance/dated-condition complaints.

WHY STAY HERE?

The Grand Hotel Swansea

High Street / Swansea railway station

Our view

The best answer to 'closest practical', particularly for supporters arriving by train. The stadium's own event FAQ names The Grand as the nearest accommodation at about 1.5 miles, and it is directly opposite Swansea station. It is also materially cheaper than Morgans in the sampled baseline. However, recent 2026 reviews are too mixed for it to be the overall recommendation: current guest reports mention renovation/building work, dated or inconsistent room condition, smells/cleanliness issues and maintenance problems.

Why it suits this trip

  • Identified by the stadium as the nearest accommodation at roughly 1.5 miles.
  • Directly opposite Swansea railway station, excellent for luggage and late train arrivals.
  • Verified current Booking.com coverage.
  • Sampled baseline was cheaper than the stronger boutique city-centre options.
  • Still within the city centre rather than isolated near the stadium.

Getting to the ground

The stadium FAQ identifies The Grand as the nearest accommodation at approximately 1.5 miles. Club travel guidance also puts Swansea station at about 1.5 miles from the ground, and The Grand is immediately opposite the station. Allow roughly 20–30 minutes on foot depending on pace and matchday pedestrian conditions.

Pubs and the evening

Good for central access, but it is at the station end of the centre rather than in the Wind Street/Somerset Place nightlife cluster. Choose it for rail and stadium practicality rather than for having the best post-match evening on the doorstep.

Arriving by train

Directly opposite Swansea railway station; this is the strongest rail relationship of the researched hotels.

The trade-offs

  • Current 2026 review evidence is inconsistent and includes repeated maintenance/dated-condition complaints.
  • Renovation/building work has been mentioned in recent reviews.
  • One recent guest review raised temporary fire-route/electrical safety concerns during works; this is an individual guest report, not an independent safety finding.
  • No hotel car park; the official supporter guide points drivers to railway-station parking.
  • Less convenient than Morgans for the core Wind Street/Maritime Quarter evening cluster.

Research price context

The sampled midweeks averaged about £98, ranging from roughly £80 to £116. The selected non-home-match weekend sample averaged about £112, ranging from roughly £94 to £130. That is a useful saving versus Morgans, but the lower price comes with a weaker current condition/reputation picture.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Swansea.com Stadium

The ground

Stoke City at Swansea City

A modern all-seater in Landore rather than the cramped city-centre Vetch. The most identity-rich areas are not architectural oddities but supporter and heritage features: the East Stand singing section, Ivor Allchurch statue, Robbie James Wall of Fame and memorial space.

Views from the away section

Views and legroom are consistently rated excellent.

Why the ground matters

The Swansea.com Stadium represents the club's post-2005 stability and scale, but much of its identity comes from the effort to carry the Vetch with it: statues, a Wall of Fame, old songs and a modern singing section all work against the anonymity that can affect newer bowls.

Stand features

Currently described by the club as the loudest home stand, with the singing section and drummer in the north-east corner.

Currently the away end, behind one goal.

Designated barrier areas now allow permitted standing in parts of the north-east home section and away area, a small return of terrace behaviour within a modern safety framework.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Stoke City at Swansea City

Enclosed bowl can create good noise, especially for Welsh derbies.

Swansea City — Roger Evans

A 1979 club song that still connects present-day supporters to the Vetch Field.

Singing from the home end

Supporter interpretation

Historically associated with the Vetch North Bank; at the current stadium the club identifies the East Stand, especially the north-east singing section, as the loudest home area.

Remembering the Vetch

The old ground remains active in songs, former-player memories and visits to the preserved community space on its site.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Food & drink

Stoke City at Swansea City

Swansea is more city-centre-first than ground-pub-heavy for visitors. Swansea station is 1.5 miles from Swansea.com Stadium — about 30 minutes on foot — and away supporters sit behind the goal in the North Stand. For train groups, the Swansea Jack on Little Wind Street is the best-supported meeting point: the Supporters’ Trust says away fans are welcome, it serves an Indian grill and runs a pre-booked stadium shuttle.

Food and drink around the ground

If you want to drink beside the ground, Harvester Morfa Parc is the clearest mixed option; the nearby Railway Inn should be avoided because its current CAMRA listing records a permanent ‘Swansea Supporters Only’ matchday sign. Plough & Harrow is a second near-ground away lead, though its football policy is guide-backed rather than published by the pub.

Food is unusually good: Rossi’s for fish and chips, Vesuvio for a sit-down matchday menu, and Swansea Market for Welsh cakes, cockles and laverbread. The stadium is cashless. Treat the Cardiff derby as a separate operation and wait for fixture-specific travel and policing instructions.

Planning your arrival

Be at the stadium perimeter before the busiest turnstile period.

Rail, Underground & tram

Check your return train before kick-off, particularly for evening games: stadium exit queues, road closures and the walk back make a connection immediately after full-time risky.

Recommended railway station
Swansea
Rail to stadium
Swansea station is approximately 1.5 miles from the stadium; club estimates about 30 minutes on foot.
Rail step-free access
Swansea railway station is Category A with step-free access to all platforms.
Rail assistance
Station staffing and boarding ramps are listed; confirm assistance arrangements for your journey.
Alternative rail stations
Llansamlet and Skewen appear in the supplied distance seed but no supported convenient onward stadium journey was confirmed; Swansea is the recommended station.

Station to ground & away entrance

Head for the North Stand, behind the goal, when you arrive at Swansea.com Stadium. Away turnstiles open around 90 minutes before kick-off, and you must use the turnstile printed on your ticket rather than guessing an entrance from the main reception. From Swansea station, allow around 30 minutes on foot towards Landore, using the New Cut Road and Morfa Road corridor and stadium wayfinding.

Local buses stop close to the north-west corner, with a pedestrian crossing to the stadium; ask a steward for the North Stand approach if the surrounding roads are being managed.

Away stand
North Stand, behind the goal.
Away entry
Use the turnstile number printed on the visiting match ticket; stadium turnstiles open approximately 90 minutes before kick-off.
Ground postcode
SA1 2FA.
Approach from station
Around 30 minutes on foot; New Cut Road/Morfa Road is the established city-to-Landore pedestrian corridor, but follow matchday signs to the North Stand.
Bus arrival side
Bus stop adjacent to stadium with pelican crossing and dropped kerbs, reaching the north-west corner.

Buses & local travel

From Swansea railway station, catch a suitable First Bus service 4 towards the Swansea.com Stadium from the stop opposite the station. The stadium is also served from Swansea bus station, normally around 15 minutes away; check the 4/4A timetable carefully because individual journeys do not all use the same route. For 2026/27, Swansea City is trialling matchday shuttles from Wellington Street via Quay Parade and New Cut Road, and from Fabian Way Park & Ride.

The advertised adult return fare is £5, with parking charged separately. The initial club announcement described a home-fan service, so visiting supporters should confirm they may board rather than relying on it. The club’s 16 October notice said the final return shuttle would leave Landore one hour after full-time. Check the latest fixture instructions before depending on that cutoff.

Parking

Stoke City at Swansea City

Book an authorised parking space if you want to drive close to Swansea.com Stadium. Free street parking is reported farther out, but we could not confirm a legally unrestricted section that is dependable on matchdays. The club has also lost substantial capacity at established Park & Walk sites, so do not arrive expecting an easy free space. The closest practical pre-booked choice is LCV at Riverside House, Normandy Road, SA1 2JA, around five minutes from the ground.

Parking & park-and-ride

You must buy before matchday and may have to wait for roads to reopen afterwards. Alamein Road, SA1 2HY, also offers authorised card-on-arrival spaces about five minutes away, but availability is first come, first served. Fans report parking on Beaufort Road and near Cwm Level Park, with a roughly 15–20-minute walk. Those accounts do not prove where restrictions permit parking, and nearby streets have controlled sections.

Do not rely on these roads without checking signs and the relevant council orders. For a more predictable fallback, High Street multi-storey beside Swansea station is open 24 hours and the council lists £5 for up to 24 hours. Expect a longer walk of roughly 35–45 minutes, or check onward bus arrangements. The restored Virgin Media site on Siemens Way has also been advertised as pre-bookable.

Allow at least four to five hours for the whole visit, including both walks, the match and departure. Morfa Retail Park is not unrestricted football parking: only a specifically purchased Morrisons-side long-stay booking is authorised. A normal shopping visit or a short retail limit is not enough.

Parking verdict
Booking advisable for near-stadium parking; free on-street alternatives reported but no named legally verified section can be recommended.
Free option — Beaufort Road
Reported by supporters in September 2025 as a place they parked; precise sections, permitted hours and restrictions unverified, so not a confirmed recommendation.
Free option — Cwm Level Park vicinity
Historical supporters report informal free roadside spaces and a roughly 15-minute stadium walk, with competition before kick-off; legal restriction status unverified.
Free option — Kilvey Hill / Pentre-chwyth
Older fans mention roads near Kilvey Hill and Pentre-chwyth and up to 25 minutes on foot; no confirmed legal sections or current permission.
More practical details 18
Legal restrictions — stadium vicinity
The club instructs drivers to check signs and respect residents; Morfa Retail Park restrictions are actively enforced. Historic controlled parking introduced in 2015 is not sufficient to certify any street as unrestricted now.

Paid fallback — High Street
Council lists £5 for up to 24 hours, 24-hour opening and 1.98m height restriction; city-centre location by rail station.
Paid option — Virgin Media
Matrix Court, Enterprise Park, Siemens Way; 16 October 2026 fixture guide advertised pre-booking at £12.29 and 10–15 minute walk; not a permanent price.
Paid option — Theatre Bistro
176 Neath Road, SA1 2JT; 16 October 2026 fixture guide offered parking only at £10, or matchday food-and-drink package at £20; enquire directly.
Paid option — stadium
16 October 2026 fixture guide lists £14 on-the-day, first come first served; not guaranteed and closes to entrants shortly before kick-off.
Booking recommendation
Pre-book LCV or an authorised partner space; High Street multi-storey provides a non-residential fallback if nearby matchday spaces are gone.
Supermarket permission/time limit
Normal Morfa Retail Park parking is not football parking; only pre-purchased Morrisons-side designated spaces via JustPark are permitted for matchday use. Ordinary shopper maximum stay has not been verified.
Total dwell time
Plan for at least 4–5 hours including arrival before kick-off, 90-minute game plus interval/stoppage, both walks and post-match delays; longer for extra time or extended activities.
After the match
LCV/Alamein Road exits are affected by managed closures; do not assume a close car park gives the fastest departure.
Landore Park & Walk capacity change
Club’s August 2026 announcement states substantial parking capacity has been lost at Landore Park & Walk and Virgin Media; ordinary council Park & Ride terms must not be applied automatically to football.

Driving & road restrictions

Use SA1 2FA to find Swansea.com Stadium, but navigate to your actual parking site rather than trying to drive straight to the turnstiles. LCV parking is at Riverside House, Normandy Road, SA1 2JA; the authorised card-on-arrival parking on Alamein Road is at SA1 2HY. Both sit in the Morfa industrial area. Roads near the stadium can be managed or closed around full-time, and the club warned of extended delays at a sold-out October 2026 fixture.

Build in extra time on the A4067 approach and follow steward directions. Check current roadworks before you leave; an older concert closure map is not a reliable football-match diversion plan.

Worth knowing

Stoke City at Swansea City

An interested away supporter is visiting a modern Championship ground whose real texture comes from the history carried into it. The useful details are therefore less about facilities than about knowing why 'Jacks', the Allchurch statue, the Wall of Fame and songs about the Vetch matter.

Matchday features

Transparent roof elements. Excellent view/legroom. Shared rugby venue

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

A detail worth noticing

The stadium itself is modern, but the club's strongest heritage objects point back to people and places that pre-date it.

The former ground's site is now community recreation space with a blue plaque rather than being completely erased by redevelopment.

Outside the stadium near the south-west entrance.

Unveiled in 2012 to honour major figures from the club's history.

A remembrance space linked to Terry Coles and other departed supporters.

Trains

Rail, Underground & tram

Use Swansea railway station for the stadium. It has intercity connections and the club places it about 1½ miles from the ground. Allow roughly 30 minutes to walk, or take a local bus or taxi if you would rather save your legs before the match.

Swansea station has step-free access to every platform and staff assistance is available. Check your return train before kick-off, particularly for evening games: stadium exit queues, road closures and the walk back make a connection immediately after full-time risky.

Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Arrange accessible parking through Swansea City before travelling. The club reserves a small number of visiting-supporter bays behind the North Stand; it says spaces are allocated first come, first served and can be booked from two weeks before the match. Contact the ticket office on 01792 616400, option 1, or accessibility@swanseacity.com for entry support.

Swansea station has step-free access to all platforms. At the stadium, away supporters have accessible entrances, an accessible lift, dropped service counters and toilets. After the match

After the match

If you parked in LCV or Alamein Road, expect to wait for stadium-area restrictions to clear before you can drive away. Swansea City warns that closures around full-time can run longer for a busy match; a five-minute walk to the car does not mean a five-minute exit.

If your priority is a less pressured departure, use an authorised car park farther from the stadium, such as High Street, and accept the longer walk. For public transport, check the First Bus timetable or trial shuttle return arrangements in advance. The 16 October club notice allowed only one hour after full-time for the last shuttle from Landore, so do not linger without checking its latest timetable.

Post-match road closures
Stadium-area road restrictions operate around full-time and may last longer for busy fixtures.
LCV and Alamein Road exit
Both near-stadium sites lie in areas affected by closures.
Longer-walk alternative
High Street multi-storey is by the railway station and outside the immediate stadium car parks; no verified guarantee of faster road departure.
Matchday shuttle return
16 October 2026 guide: last departure from Landore one hour after full-time; recheck for the actual fixture.
Evening rail connection
Check latest train times; club estimates 30-minute walk to Swansea station before crowd delays.

Where to stay

Stay in Swansea city centre, particularly around the railway station or High Street, if you want the simplest overnight football trip. You can reach the stadium on foot in about 30 minutes or take a local bus, and the same base gives you restaurants and an easier railway departure the next day.

Wind Street and the central waterfront are better for an evening out, while a hotel beside the stadium suits anyone prioritising proximity to the turnstiles. The club lists options near the station, city centre and waterfront, but match-night hotel prices and availability should be checked for your actual date rather than inferred from earlier examples.

Best stay area
Swansea city centre near railway station/High Street for transport, eating and straightforward onward travel.
Alternative stay area
Wind Street/city-centre waterfront is useful for pre- and post-match socialising, with longer access to stadium.
Station to stadium
Club estimates around 30 minutes on foot or local bus/taxi.

Matchday services and parking arrangements can change. Confirm current details before travelling.

MATCHDAY INTELThe strongest city-centre meeting point. Swansea’s Supporters’ Trust explicitly says away fans are welcome, while the official sports bar combines live football, an Indian grill and a pre-bookable stadium shuttle.
WORTH KNOWINGAway welcome is documented, but no published colours rule was found. For the Cardiff derby or another high-risk fixture, check the match-specific arrangements first.

MATCHDAY INTELThe clearest mixed option beside the stadium. Current accessibility guidance says Harvester is used by home and away supporters, and recent visiting-fan discussion still points to it as the obvious near-ground drink-and-food stop.
WORTH KNOWINGNo current replica-shirt policy was found and it can be extremely busy. Treat supporter estimates of the away/home split as opinion, not an admission guarantee.

MATCHDAY INTELA useful traditional-pub alternative to Morfa Parc. Current ground guidance puts the Brynhyfryd Plough & Harrow five to ten minutes from the stadium and describes it as very friendly to visiting supporters.
WORTH KNOWINGAway access is guide-backed rather than a published house rule. Do not confuse this pub with the different Plough & Harrow at 18 Swansea Road, Llangyfelach.

WORTH KNOWINGIt is not a designated away pub and publishes no colours policy. Groups larger than its normal reservation sizes should contact the venue rather than assume matchday space.
