What this club is really about
Swansea's story makes most sense as a sequence of recoveries rather than a straight rise. The old Vetch tied the club physically to the city for generations; supporters and local investors fought for the club when ownership crises threatened it; the 2003 Hull match then became a line in the sand before Martínez, Rodgers and Laudrup-era football turned 'the Swansea Way' into shorthand for ambition through possession rather than size or spending. The result is a supporter culture that can be nostalgic without being purely backward-looking.
