The Bristol
Harbourside / city centre
The strongest all-round match-trip hotel in this research. It is not the closest bed to Ashton Gate, but its Harbourside position gives supporters a much better evening after the match, it is easy enough from Temple Meads, Booking.com coverage is verified and the current reputation evidence is substantially stronger than the budget properties closest to the ground.
- Harbourside location puts pubs, restaurants and the Old City within an easy walk after the match.
- About 1.3 miles from Ashton Gate on published hotel-distance listings; a longer but realistic walk, or a short taxi/bus journey.
Third-party hotel-distance listings put The Bristol about 1.3 miles from Ashton Gate. The actual walking route is longer than a straight-line measure; fit supporters can walk it, but a taxi/bus is attractive in poor weather or late at night.
You are choosing city atmosphere over stadium-doorstep convenience; allow roughly 30-35 minutes on foot to Ashton Gate depending on route.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.

Southville Guest House
Southville / BS3
The closest option found that combines a genuinely useful Ashton Gate walk with review evidence strong enough for MatchdayHotels to put its name behind. Even nearer guest-house options surfaced, but their current review evidence was materially weaker. Southville Guest House also keeps you near North Street rather than leaving you stranded in a purely residential stadium-side location.
- About 1.3 km/0.8 miles from Ashton Gate on current Tripadvisor proximity listings.
- Southville/North Street gives supporters useful local pubs, cafés and restaurants before or after the game.
Tripadvisor's current Ashton Gate proximity listing places the guest house about 1.3 km from the stadium. That makes it a realistic walk for a match rather than merely 'nearby' on a city map.
This is an eight-room guest house, not a full-service hotel; availability is much thinner than the city-centre chains.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.

Clayton Hotel Bristol City
Old City / Broad Street
The best choice if the night after the match matters as much as the match itself. Broad Street puts you in the Old City, close to King Street/Welsh Back, St Nicholas Market and a dense set of pubs, bars and food options. It also has stronger modern-hotel facilities than the small BS3 options and verified Booking.com coverage.
- Old City location is immediately useful for post-match pubs, food and late-evening choice.
- King Street/Welsh Back, one of Bristol's recognised pub/craft-beer clusters, is walkable.
Current Tripadvisor/Hotels.com proximity results place Clayton roughly 2.5-2.6 km/1.6 miles from Ashton Gate. Walking is possible, but nightlife rather than ground proximity is the reason to choose it.
At roughly 1.6 miles from Ashton Gate on current hotel-distance listings, it is the longest stadium walk of the three primary picks.

Parking
Driving & road restrictions
Set your sat-nav to the car park you have chosen, not simply to Ashton Gate's postcode, BS3 2EJ. The main approaches around Winterstoke Road and Ashton Road get busy before and after games, and the stadium car park is not open for casual matchday parking. An independent space at The Clanage is approached from Clanage Road, while Ashton Vale sites have their own trading-estate entrances.
Before setting off, check whether your vehicle is liable for Bristol's Clean Air Zone charge. Non-compliant cars are charged £9 for entering the signed zone, including at weekends. The Clanage operator advertises an approach outside that zone via the A369, but you must check your full route. Any temporary diversions or road closures need checking for your fixture.
- Stadium navigation address
- Ashton Gate Stadium, Ashton Road, Bristol BS3 2EJ
- The Clanage parking address
- Clanage Road, Bower Ashton BS3 2JX; operator advertises access from A369 outside CAZ
- DJ Matchday Parking address
- Cala Trading Estate, Ashton Vale Road BS3 2HA
- Clean Air Zone non-compliant car charge
- £9 per day for entering the Bristol Clean Air Zone, 24/7 including bank holidays
- Clean Air Zone non-compliant coach charge
- £100 per day on roads inside the zone
- Ordinary on-site matchday access
- No casual access; Bristol Sport shop states pre-booking with supporter services is required for any matchday vehicle entry
Parking & park-and-ride
For most Saturday and weekday visits, book a car park or use park-and-ride rather than hunting free spaces around Ashton Gate. Parking near the ground is restricted, and the club does not allow casual entry to its on-site car park on matchdays. Booking a legitimate off-street space is especially useful if you're arriving near kick-off or travelling with children.
For a short walk, try an authorised booking at The Clanage on Clanage Road, BS3 2JX. Its operator advertises roughly seven to ten minutes to the stadium and advance payment. DJ Matchday Parking on the Cala Trading Estate, Ashton Vale Road, BS3 2HA, is another close option. Check prices and whether your particular fixture has spaces before travelling.
Free on-street parking is a genuine possibility on Sundays and public holidays. Bristol Council says the signed shared-use section of Kennel Lodge Road is free outside its Monday-to-Saturday 9am–9pm controls. Ordinary eligible bays in the Southville residents' scheme are also generally free on Sundays and bank holidays. Neither rule applies to yellow lines, loading bays or the rest of Bower Ashton's permit-only streets. Arrive early, inspect the exact bay signs and have a paid fallback.
If those spaces are taken, Long Ashton Park & Ride is a reliable alternative for drivers who will use the m2 bus. Its free car park has fixed closing hours. There are also authorised longer-stay JustPark bookings at Sainsbury's Winterstoke Road, separate from ordinary two-hour customer parking.
Allow at least four hours for the visit, more for a distant space or cup tie. Do not assume that a two- or three-hour shop limit covers football, and check the Sunday park-and-ride closing time before relying on it after the match.
- Parking verdict
- Booking advisable for Saturday/weekday matches; Sunday/bank-holiday signed free bays possible with paid backup
- Free option — Kennel Lodge Road
- Signed shared-use area only: no permit or payment needed on Sundays/public holidays or outside Mon–Sat 09:00–21:00
- Legal restrictions — Kennel Lodge Road
- Only the signed shared-use section is free outside controlled hours; Bower Ashton permit parking area otherwise operates 24 hours daily except Christmas Day
- Walk — Kennel Lodge Road
- Bristol City Women estimates 15 minutes from Hotwells Lane/Kennel Lodge Road parking to the stadium; the actual marked bay-to-Atyeo walk varies
- Matchday availability — Kennel Lodge Road
- No verified matchday space availability; few signed bays may be contested on Sundays
- Arrive by — Kennel Lodge Road
- Arrive well before kick-off if trying an eligible bay; no evidence for a reliable exact time
- Free option — Southville RPS
- On Sundays and bank holidays, correctly signed ordinary permit, shared-use or pay-and-display bays can be free when the scheme is not operating
- Legal restrictions — Southville RPS
- Resident scheme operates Mon–Sat 09:00–17:00; outside these hours scheme permits generally not required, but yellow lines and other separate restrictions remain
- Walk — Southville RPS
- Depends on exact selected signed bay; the nearer Ashton Road/North Street end is walkable to the Atyeo but no single bay-to-entrance time verified
- Matchday availability — Southville RPS
- Legally eligible spaces may already be occupied by residents or football traffic; no guarantee of availability
- Free option — Long Ashton Park & Ride
- Free site parking for bus users, not a blanket right to park without using transport; take m2 to the stadium area
- Park & Ride opening — Long Ashton
- 05:00–00:00 Mon–Sat, 07:00–20:00 Sunday/public holidays; closed overnight; 1,500 car spaces advertised
- Paid fallback — The Clanage
- Clanage Road BS3 2JX; pre-paid independent matchday car park; operator estimates 7–10 minutes to stadium
- Paid fallback — DJ Matchday Parking
- Cala Trading Estate, Ashton Vale Road BS3 2HA; Bristol City Women page quotes £10 and five-minute stadium walk; verify men’s fixture price and admission method
- Paid fallback — Sainsbury’s Winterstoke Road
- JustPark offers separately authorised 24/7 longer-stay bookings, advertised from £6.50; check live matchday booking
- Paid fallback — nearby private driveways
- JustPark has booked driveway spaces around Raleigh Road and Durnford Street; price and exact availability vary
- Booking recommendation
- Use an operator-authorised advance reservation for a Saturday match; booking does not eliminate road congestion
- Supermarket permission/time limit
- Sainsbury’s general customer-car-park policy is usually up to 2 hours free; longer stadium stays require an explicitly authorised separate booking
- Total dwell time
- Allow about 4–5 hours: arrival, both walks, pre-match entry, 90 minutes plus interval and stoppages, and vehicle exit; longer for extra time or delays
- After the match
- Expect traffic pressure on Winterstoke Road and Ashton Road; outer pre-booked parking or park-and-ride may reduce close-in congestion but buses and exits still queue
- Saturday controls — Kennel Lodge Road
- Permit or pay-and-display needed 09:00–21:00 on Saturday in signed shared-use bays; not a free Saturday afternoon option
- Saturday controls — Southville
- Permit or payment required in relevant bays 09:00–17:00 Saturday; restrictions do not automatically cease for a 3pm kick-off
- New matchday parking proposals — status
- October 2026 Ashton Vale matchday controls and Ashton Gate resident controls are consultation proposals, not yet confirmed active schemes

Parking
Where to leave the car for Bristol City.
Matchday advice: For most Saturday and weekday visits, book a car park or use park-and-ride rather than hunting free spaces around Ashton Gate. Parking near the ground is restricted, and the club does not allow casual entry to its on-site car park on matchdays.
Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Parson Street if your train stops there: it is about a 15-minute walk to Ashton Gate, and you can head towards Winterstoke Road before following signs for the away Atyeo Stand. Check your train's stopping pattern, because not every long-distance service calls there. Parson Street has stairs to its platforms and is unsuitable if you need a step-free station.
Bristol Temple Meads is the better arrival point for most long-distance supporters. From there you can use the dedicated AG3 matchday bus or change to a suitable local train. Bedminster is an alternative with some step-free platform access, although it involves a longer walk and steep ramps at the station. Check return connections before an evening fixture.
- Nearest useful railway station
- Parson Street, approximately 15 minutes on foot from the stadium; not step-free
- Mainline arrival
- Bristol Temple Meads; matchday AG3 onward bus or local rail towards Parson Street
- Alternative accessible rail station
- Bedminster, National Rail category B2; steep-ramp limitations apply
- Bristol Temple Meads step-free status
- Category A; step-free access to all platforms
- Parson Street step-free status
- false
- Approximate walk from Temple Meads
- Around 40 minutes to stadium, before any additional away-entrance routing
Station to ground & away entrance
Go to the Atyeo Stand at the Ashton Road end of Ashton Gate, using the away-supporter route through the Ashton Road car-park approach. Do not cut through the residential gaps behind the stand. Visiting-club guidance identifies the away turnstiles there, while your own match ticket and stewards will confirm the entrance in use.
From Parson Street, walk towards Winterstoke Road and continue to the stadium perimeter, then follow Atyeo and away-fan signs. If you arrive by matchday bus or at a nearby car park, allow extra time to reach this end of the ground rather than the nearest home entrance. Expect searches at the turnstiles, particularly before a busy kick-off.

Buses
Buses & local travel
The AG3 matchday bus is the easiest public-transport link from Bristol Temple Meads. Board at Station Approach stop T6, or use the listed city-centre stops at Haymarket and St Augustine's Parade. First Bus also advertises AG1 from Portway Park & Ride and AG2 from Brislington Park & Ride for Bristol City home fixtures.
If you're driving to a park-and-ride site, Long Ashton is another option. Its m2 service serves the Ashton Gate area, although the stop is still a walk from the away end. Parking at the sites is free for bus users, but the car parks have closing times. Check the match-specific AG timetable, bus ticket and final return before travelling, particularly for Sunday or evening matches.

Accessibility
Accessible journeys
If you need wheelchair seating or parking, arrange it through your own club and Bristol City's Supporter Services before travelling. Level Playing Field records two accessible away parking bays and wheelchair spaces in the Atyeo Stand, so neither should be assumed available on arrival. The club also identifies a drop-off point by its main entrance near KFC off Winterstoke Road, but confirm how to reach the away entrance from there.
Parson Street is not step-free. Bristol Temple Meads has step-free platforms and is a more dependable starting point for an accessible onward journey. Bedminster has some step-free access but the ramps are steep. Check assistance needs, accessible matchday bus boarding and the precise Atyeo entrance before committing to your route.

After the match
After the match
If you have parked near Ashton Gate, allow time for the crowds to clear before driving away. Winterstoke Road and Ashton Road can be busy after full-time, so an outer car park may be less frustrating than one immediately beside the stadium. Keep to the route back to your booked space rather than trying to cross the stadium access roads at the busiest moment.
For rail, check the last useful service from Parson Street in advance and remember its platforms are not step-free. The AG3 and park-and-ride buses provide alternatives, but you must check their return service and queue before the game. In particular, Sunday's earlier park-and-ride closing times may not suit a late finish.
- Busy road corridors
- Ashton Road and Winterstoke Road approaches are congested around events
- Rail return
- Parson Street near stadium; use live train times and allow walking and boarding buffer
- Matchday bus return
- AG1/AG2/AG3 are advertised for Bristol City home fixtures; confirm final return times for fixture
- Sunday Long Ashton car park closing
- 20:00 Sunday and public holidays
- Sunday Brislington car park closing
- 19:30 Sunday and public holidays
Where to stay
Stay around the Harbourside or Old City if you want a full Bristol away weekend. There is a much stronger choice of hotels, food and pubs, with the matchday AG3 bus or an onward local connection bringing you towards Ashton Gate. That is usually easier for long-distance rail travellers than looking for a room next to the stadium.
Southville and Bedminster suit supporters who prefer to walk to football and spend the evening closer to the ground. North Street has places to eat and drink, while Ashton Gate itself is a stadium district rather than a hotel quarter. Check how you will return after the match, particularly for late trains and any fixture-specific restrictions on away-supporter pub admission.
- Best all-round overnight base
- Harbourside/Old City for hotels, food, city-centre arrival and evening options
- Football-first local base
- Southville or Bedminster for a shorter walk to Ashton Gate
- Stadium address
- Ashton Road, Bristol BS3 2EJ

Bristol City is better approached as a city-centre or harbourside away day than a pub crawl immediately around Ashton Gate. Visitors are in the Atyeo Stand, with current guidance routing them through the Ashton Road car park. Bristol Temple Meads is the main rail arrival; Parson Street is closer, but the centre gives far better meeting choices. For an overnight stay, the Temple Meads/city-centre or harbourside/Wapping Wharf areas are more useful than staying beside the ground. King Street Brew House is the strongest central rendezvous, while Bedminster Cricket Club is the clearest established away base nearer Ashton Gate. Nova Scotia, The Cottage and The Pump House make the harbourside the best mixed-support drinking route. North Street is trickier: Tobacco Factory and the Bristol Beer Factory Tap Room are good venues, but recent visiting-club guidance still repeats Bristol City's advice to avoid that pub area, so check the fixture before wearing colours. Food is strongest at Wapping Wharf or in the harbourside pubs. The Atyeo Guinness Bar and concourse are the safest close-to-kick-off fallback, but food can sell out.

Food & quick bites
Where to grab a bite, have a proper meal or try the local matchday favourite.
Ashton Gate – Atyeo Stand away concourse catering
The simplest fallback once you reach the away turnstiles. Visiting-club guidance confirms basic hot food and drinks in the Atyeo concourse, but do not come expecting the full range of South Stand street-food traders.
Salt & Malt – Wapping Wharf
A much better harbourside stop than a generic station takeaway if you have time before heading south to the stadium. Proper fish and chips travel well; the restaurant offers a slower option for an overnight stay.
Pizzarova – North Street
A flexible pizza stop for couples, groups or families, with collection as well as seats. The menu includes interesting toppings without forgetting the basics, plus vegetarian and vegan swaps.
The Malago
A comfortable pre-match breakfast choice if you are staying locally or arriving with family. It covers full English-style plates, vegetarian and vegan breakfasts, and lighter dishes without forcing everyone into burger-and-chips.
Tobacco Factory Café Bar
The best all-round vegetarian sit-down choice in the immediate Southville food area, with family facilities and an appealing space for mixed ages. Its bar setting, however, makes football-match admission less certain than a takeaway.
Clark’s Pies – North Street bakehouse
For a genuinely Bristol matchday snack, pick up a Clark’s pie while walking North Street. The original beef-and-kidney filling is the local signature; steak and ale and savoury pasties offer other choices.
Oowee Diner – North Street
A reliable choice when the group wants big burgers and loaded fries rather than a sit-down restaurant meal. The North Street diner has seating and specifically invites advance collection orders, useful when kick-off is getting close.
Pizza Workshop – North Street
Choose Pizza Workshop if you want a proper pizza table before the game or a pre-ordered takeaway. It takes bookings for parties of up to eight, and the operator advertises advance collection to keep the stop manageable.
Soukitchen – Southville
A strong choice for supporters who want dinner to be part of the trip rather than just fuel before kick-off. Shared dishes suit a small group, but allow a full restaurant sitting and pre-book.
COR Restaurant
For supporters staying overnight and wanting one memorable Bristol meal, COR is a credible choice. Its Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition reflects serious cooking, but the setting calls for a reservation and time to enjoy it.
Kofi Lounge – Ashton Gate
Handy for a hot drink and small snack near Ashton Gate without committing to a pub meal. It is on the main stadium side rather than beside the visiting-supporter turnstiles, so allow for a separate walk around.
North Street Shawarma
Good for a substantial hand-held meal: the shawarma wraps are easier to take away than a long restaurant sitting, and the menu has falafel and halloumi alternatives. Choose collection to control your stop.
Coronation Curry House
For a longer curry before an evening match or an overnight meal, this is a distinctive local alternative to pizza and burgers. The operator says dishes are cooked to order, so allow time.
