FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW PLYMOUTH ARGYLE TO CAMBRIDGE UNITED

Plymouth Argyle are 5th in League One after 12 league games, with 19 points. Before the season, they were seen as promotion and play-off contenders. Plymouth Argyle are in the play-off places, below the two automatic promotion spots. Keeping that place is the first job; moving higher would give supporters more to chase.

Cambridge United are 4th in League One after 11 league games, with 20 points. The pre-season outlook had them down as a side likely to face a survival fight. Their position is more encouraging than that starting outlook. Cambridge United are in the play-off places, below the two automatic promotion spots. Keeping that place is the first job; moving higher would give supporters more to chase.

Plymouth Argyle's last five recorded league games brought two wins and three defeats: six points from a possible fifteen. Recent results give Cambridge United nine points from a possible fifteen, with two wins and three draws in their last five league games.

The destination is Cledara Abbey Stadium in Cambridge. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For the best balance, the Parker's Piece / Gonville Place edge of the centre works well: you remain on the correct side of town for the Abbey but can walk into the central evening. Choose Newmarket Road if price and the shortest possible matchday walk matter more than nightlife.

Make the football the reason to go and give yourself enough time to enjoy it. Check the confirmed kick-off and ticket arrangements before committing to travel or a hotel, then choose the plan that lets you support Plymouth Argyle from the away end without rushing the whole day.

Table and form checked 22 October.

The Gonville Hotel, a member of Radisson Individuals

Parker's Piece / Gonville Place

The best all-round overnight base for this fixture if the budget stretches to it. It sits on the city-centre edge by Parker's Piece, so you are much better placed for food and drinks than at the ground-side chains, while still being on the east side of central Cambridge for the return towards Newmarket Road.

  • Strong compromise between the Abbey Stadium side of Cambridge and the city-centre evening.
  • Regent Street, St Andrew's Street and the central food/drink area are walkable without needing another taxi after the match.
The match journey

Approximate practical route distance/time from the Parker's Piece edge to the Abbey; straightforward for supporters happy with a longer walk, otherwise a short bus/taxi is more sensible.

The trade-off

It is materially dearer than the Newmarket Road budget hotels and Holiday Inn Express.

Parker's Piece / Gonville Place

Our view

The best all-round overnight base for this fixture if the budget stretches to it. It sits on the city-centre edge by Parker's Piece, so you are much better placed for food and drinks than at the ground-side chains, while still being on the east side of central Cambridge for the return towards Newmarket Road.

Why it suits this trip

  • Strong compromise between the Abbey Stadium side of Cambridge and the city-centre evening.
  • Regent Street, St Andrew's Street and the central food/drink area are walkable without needing another taxi after the match.
  • Large body of current review evidence remains positive on staff, location and cleanliness.
  • Booking.com coverage and six representative GBP rate observations were directly verified.

Getting to the ground

Approximate practical route distance/time from the Parker's Piece edge to the Abbey; straightforward for supporters happy with a longer walk, otherwise a short bus/taxi is more sensible.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel is at the Parker's Piece end of the central evening area and is much better placed than stadium-side hotels for bars, restaurants and late-night venues.

Arriving by train

Reasonable walk from the main station via Station Road/Hills Road; easier than staying out by the ground if arriving by rail with luggage.

The trade-offs

  • It is materially dearer than the Newmarket Road budget hotels and Holiday Inn Express.
  • The stadium is not a short walk; allow a longer walk or use a bus/taxi.
  • Several September 2026 reviews raise maintenance, breakfast and value concerns, so this is not an unqualified luxury recommendation.

Research price context

In the sampled dates, roughly £190-£280 midweek and £210-£255 at weekends. The weekend uplift was small; the main issue is that the base price is already high.

Travelodge Cambridge Newmarket Road

Travelodge Cambridge Newmarket Road

Newmarket Road / Abbey

The practical ground-first choice. It is on Newmarket Road, around a 14-minute walk from the Abbey by current mapping, and it is usually far cheaper than the city-centre four-stars. For a supporter who wants to get checked in, walk to the match and keep the hotel bill down, this is the clearest fit.

  • Around 0.7 miles / 14 minutes on foot from Abbey Stadium in current mapping.
  • Direct Travelodge affiliate coverage is verified and a Booking.com property listing also exists.

For a supporter who wants to get checked in, walk to the match and keep the hotel bill down, this is the clearest fit.

Why it suits this trip

  • Around 0.7 miles / 14 minutes on foot from Abbey Stadium in current mapping.
  • Direct Travelodge affiliate coverage is verified and a Booking.com property listing also exists.
  • Current reviews remain broadly positive on staff, cleanliness and value for a basic stay.
  • The hotel says the city centre is about a 20-minute walk away, so the evening is still reachable.

Getting to the ground

A straightforward Newmarket Road matchday base. Current HotelsCombined mapping gives 0.7 miles / 14 minutes to Abbey Stadium.

Pubs and the evening

Not in the main late-night cluster. Travelodge states central Cambridge is about a 20-minute walk; bus/taxi options are available outside.

Arriving by train

The hotel publishes a walking route from Cambridge station via Station Road, Hills Road, Gonville Place, East Road and Newmarket Road; with luggage, a bus or taxi is the easier option.

The trade-offs

  • It is a functional chain stay rather than a destination hotel.
  • The best bars and late-night venues are in the city centre rather than immediately outside the hotel.
  • Road noise and warm rooms in hot weather recur in review evidence.
  • Premier Inn Cambridge East is mapped about 0.1 mile / one minute closer to the Abbey by one current source; Travelodge is selected here because the practical difference is negligible and the affiliate/booking trail is stronger.
  • Travelodge weekend price sampling is lower-confidence: two representative weekend checks succeeded before the connected pricing provider began throttling additional calls.

Research price context

The successful supplier-rate checks converted to about £33-£63 midweek and £55-£81 at weekends. Treat the weekend figure as indicative rather than a robust six-point baseline because only two weekend calls completed.

All the key information for Plymouth Argyle supporters heading to Cledara Abbey Stadium — from the ground and atmosphere to food, access, parking and matchday practicalities.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cledara Abbey Stadium

The ground

Plymouth Argyle at Cambridge United

Compact, piecemeal and visibly developed over time rather than conceived in one architectural sweep. The old terraces, Main Stand, supporter buildings and newer South Stand sit together with quirks that would be designed out of a modern bowl. The club itself has publicly acknowledged both the Abbey's charm and its imperfections.

Views from the away section

The South Stand provides a more modern viewing experience than much of the ground.

Supporter observation

Most views from Cambridge's South Habbin are decent, but the segregation fence can get in the way from some positions and may partly obscure the goalmouth. If seeing every part of the pitch matters to you, your exact position within the section can make a difference.

Why the ground matters

The Abbey is the physical archive of Cambridge United. It has been home since 1932, bears the marks of decades of supporter labour and became the central object in the club's financial trauma when it was sold. Buying it back in 2022 carried emotional force precisely because supporters had already spent generations treating the ground as something they helped make.

Newmarket Road End

Home terrace and the strongest visual supporter end; the rear carries the supporter-selected Legends Wall.

Main Stand

Part of the older fabric of the ground and a reminder that the Abbey grew by additions rather than one rebuild.

Habbin side

Terracing and structures here are deeply connected to the volunteer-building era in the stadium history.

South Stand

Newer all-seater stand behind the goal, normally the principal away section in current use.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cledara Abbey Stadium

Atmosphere & acoustics

Plymouth Argyle at Cambridge United

Close stands and terracing create an old-school atmosphere.

From the supporters

Supporter observation

The Abbey’s separated stand layout can make the overall atmosphere feel fragmented, even though the away terrace itself provides a good pitch view and a traditional close-up experience.

I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts

Supporter interpretation

Not merely a novelty song: it is the victory record, an inter-generational in-joke and the name-source for the club's major heritage project.

Coconuts after an Abbey win

A deliberately silly release after victory whose persistence is the point; it sounds unlike generic football triumphalism because it is genuinely local to United.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cledara Abbey Stadium

Food & drink

Plymouth Argyle at Cambridge United

Cambridge is best treated as two pre-match zones. Immediately around Cledara Abbey Stadium, dependable away-pub choice is limited: Grimsby Town’s January 2026 visitor guide said there was little reliable pub choice around the stadium for away fans. The useful counterweight is the ground itself, where the visiting South Habbin has food, drink and alcohol, while Cambridge United runs separate BrewBoard fan zones in home areas.

Food and drink around the ground

On Newmarket Road, there are food-led pubs close to the ground, but access policies can change by fixture. For rail arrivals, the Cambridge and Mill Road side offers more choice and a less rushed pre-match stop. Recent supporter discussion points to the Cambridge Blue and other Mill Road pubs, while visiting supporters have also used city-side pubs before continuing to the Abbey.

Families have several food-friendly options, but the simplest away-supporter fallback is still the ticketed stadium catering. Check fixture-specific pub access: the Supporters’ Club has switched to home-only on at least one 2026 fixture, and The Wrestlers is currently reported home-only for away fans.

South Habbin away-end food & drink outlets

The most reliable away-supporter option is inside the ticketed South Habbin area. Cambridge United’s current food page says hot food and drinks, including alcohol, are available around the stadium, while Grimsby Town’s January 2026 visitor guide specifically confirms food, drink and alcohol inside the ground for away supporters. A February 2026 MK Dons visitor also reported using the away food-and-bar area.

  • Late arrivals who do not want to rely on pub admission

The stadium is cashless for food and drink. Menu items can vary by stand, and fixture-specific opening arrangements should still be checked.

BrewBoard Fan Zones

Cambridge United repeatedly listed BrewBoard Fan Zones in the Newmarket Road End, Main Stand and North Habbin during 2026, with food, Abbey Gold and Camstar beer and Beer Buses in selected zones. Current evidence establishes the fan zones as a significant home-matchday option, but it does not confirm that South Habbin away supporters can enter these home-side areas.

Treat away access as unknown. The visiting section has its own food-and-drink provision, so away supporters should not rely on the home-side BrewBoard zones unless Cambridge United gives fixture-specific confirmation.

Abbey Lounge / Cambridge United Supporters Club

The Abbey Lounge is the current home of Cambridge United Supporters Club and its 2026/27 website says it opens on matchdays, charges non-members a guest fee and usually operates a kitchen. Away admission is not dependable: a current ground guide says the club is usually open to all supporters, but an MK Dons visitor in February 2026 found it restricted to home fans for that fixture.

The Corner House

This is the clearest pub candidate near the Abbey. The venue's current website explicitly describes The Corner House as away-fan friendly and family-welcoming, with Nepalese dishes, pub classics, real ale, live sport, heated cabins and an all-weather garden. The Green Dragon

The Green Dragon is one of the strongest supporter-led matchday leads. The Wrestlers

The Wrestlers remains a strong food pub close to the Abbey, with its current site centred on Thai food and cask ale and CAMRA listing it as family-friendly. For away supporters, however, the latest football-specific guidance says it is home fans only, so it should not be presented as an away pub despite older guides suggesting discreet away visitors could be served.

The Engineer's House

The Engineer's House is a useful food-and-beer alternative near the stadium rather than a proven away pub. Its current site confirms Calverley's beer and Neapolitan-style pizza, while CAMRA lists it as family-friendly and card-only. A current football-ground guide places it close to the Abbey, but no current source located confirms an away-fan or colours policy.

The Cambridge Blue is one of the stronger Mill Road/Gwydir Street options for supporters arriving by train. A Gillingham supporter discussing the March 2026 trip said it had been recommended, and a Cambridge United supporter in April 2026 grouped it among Mill Road pubs that have fans in before games. The Old Ticket Office

The Old Ticket Office would normally be an obvious station-side option, but it should not currently be recommended. Accessibility

Plymouth Argyle at Cambridge United

Contact Cambridge United before travelling if you need an accessible away ticket, wheelchair position or reserved parking. The club lists three away wheelchair spaces in South Habbin and limited stadium disabled parking, largely used by permit holders. Email dslo@cambridgeunited.com or call 01223 566500 to discuss the approach and arrangements for your fixture. Cambridge and Cambridge North stations both have step-free access to their platforms.

Accessible journeys

The Old Ticket Office would normally be an obvious station-side option, but it should not currently be recommended. Planning your arrival

Be at the stadium perimeter before the busiest turnstile period.

Rail, Underground & tram

The club estimates a 40–45-minute walk, so the Citi 3 bus towards Newmarket Road is usually easier. Get off at Ditton Walk and follow the away-supporter signs. Both Cambridge and Cambridge North stations have step-free access to their platforms, but that does not establish a fully step-free route to your turnstile.

Station to ground & away entrance

Go to the South Habbin away entrance on the Coldham’s Common side of the stadium. From the club shop on Newmarket Road, turn left and follow the footpath beside the ground to the far end. You can also approach the away side from Coldham’s Lane; do not mistake the ticket-office frontage for the away turnstiles. The club’s visiting guide describes a mixture of standing terrace and seats in South Habbin, with accessible positions there too.

Check your ticket for the exact area, since older guides refer to different allocations. Supporters arriving by coach are dropped at the Newmarket Road frontage and must still use the Coldham’s Common route.

Parking

Plymouth Argyle at Cambridge United

You do not need to book parking if you use Newmarket Road Park & Ride. The site at CB5 8AA has free parking for up to 18 hours, and Cambridge United recommends it for visiting supporters. The matchday bus costs £3.80 return for adults, paid to the driver. You can also walk along Newmarket Road, but leave extra time to reach the South Habbin away entrance. Free on-street parking cannot be recommended on a named residential stretch.

Parking & park-and-ride

Ditton Walk, Wadloes Road and the surrounding streets attract football traffic, and the club has reported blocked access. We could not confirm which individual roadside bays are unrestricted throughout a full match. Do not park on verges, pavements or private drives. For a Sunday fixture, Gwydir Street council car park on Mill Road, CB1 2LW, is free with no maximum stay during free hours.

Riverside car park on Abbey Road, CB5 8HH, is also free on Sundays, but has only 11 spaces. From Gwydir Street follow the New Street and Coldhams Lane route towards Newmarket Road. From Riverside join Newmarket Road before taking the away-end path. They are paid during most daytime hours on Saturdays and bank holidays. If you prefer a reserved space closer to the stadium, JustPark advertises private driveways on Ditton Fields, Vinery Road and other nearby streets.

Book for the full matchday visit and follow the host’s directions. Unlike an ordinary roadside bay, a valid driveway booking establishes permission to use that particular space. Prices and availability vary by fixture. Allow four to five hours for parking, the walk both ways and the match. Cambridge Retail Park and the Beehive Centre both limit free customer parking to four hours; neither confirms permission to leave a vehicle there for football.

For evening fixtures, check the final Park & Ride bus, although the car park itself stays open 24 hours.

Driving & road restrictions

Set the sat-nav to Newmarket Road Park & Ride, CB5 8AA, if you are driving for the match. It avoids arriving at a stadium with no general parking and gives you a bus or walking option. Drivers approaching Cambridge from the A14 can follow signs onto Newmarket Road, but should use their chosen car park entrance rather than the ground postcode. The streets around Ditton Walk and the Newmarket Road approaches can become congested.

Cambridge United has specifically warned about blocked driveways, verges and paths. Check live traffic and any event-specific diversions before setting off; a road closure reported for an old fixture should not be assumed to operate again.

Comfort & weather

Plymouth Argyle at Cambridge United

The forecast loads when you open this topic. Comfort and shelter guidance is below.

Facilities vary markedly by stand age.

Shelter and exposure

Supporter observation

The South Habbin standing section at Cambridge is covered, which is welcome on a wet or cold away day. The ground can still feel bitter in a winter cold snap, so the roof helps but it is still worth dressing for the conditions.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Cledara Abbey Stadium

Worth knowing

Plymouth Argyle at Cambridge United

For a visiting supporter, the Abbey is interesting because the historic story is still visible. The away end is newer, but look across and the rest of the ground shows how Cambridge United accumulated a stadium rather than bought one. The club's best identity details are small — the old box, terrace culture, names painted onto the Newmarket Road End — rather than monumental.

Matchday features

Modern-away-stand versus traditional-ground contrast. Accessible-space numbers can vary by fixture

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

The NRE Legends Wall

It is supporter-selected memory made part of the stadium fabric, not a boardroom list of greatest players.

The old tannoy box in the north-west corner

A surviving link to Jack Morgan and the accidental birth of the Coconuts ritual.

The Supporters' Club / heritage presence

Supporter interpretation

The ground's history is unusually entangled with supporter organisation and museum work.

The uneven mix of eras

Older and newer structures make the Abbey read like a ground that has been solved and re-solved as money, regulations and ambition changed.

Newmarket Road itself

Supporter interpretation

The club did not migrate to a neutral edge-of-town site; the same road and district keep appearing from the early Abbey United story onward.

Supporter-built infrastructure

Railway sleepers, volunteer construction and fundraising are repeatedly documented in the Abbey's development.

Sale and repurchase

The ground moved out of club ownership in the crisis years and came back in 2022.

Abbey naming

The club restored Abbey Stadium branding in 2017 specifically because of the historical link to Abbey Ward.

Trains

Rail, Underground & tram

Use Cambridge North if your train stops there and you are happy to walk. Cambridge United puts it around 30 minutes from the stadium. Follow the signed walking route towards the Newmarket Road side, then use the Coldham’s Common path to reach the away entrance. Leave extra time for that final approach.

Cambridge station is the better choice for many longer-distance trains.

Away coaches unload at the Newmarket Road frontage, where stewards direct the stop. Cambridge United’s supporter liaison guide asks operators to tell the club their coach numbers at least a week ahead. From the drop-off, walk along the outside of the stadium to the South Habbin entrance on Coldham’s Common.

Drivers are then directed to holding parking, with a lay-by near Stow-cum-Quy used for smaller coach movements. The guide describes Marshall’s Airport parking for exceptional larger allocations, subject to agreement. After full-time, follow your organiser’s exact collection instructions and the stewards’ directions rather than assuming your coach will remain outside the away turnstiles.

Accessible journeys

Contact Cambridge United before travelling if you need an accessible away ticket, wheelchair position or reserved parking. The club lists three away wheelchair spaces in South Habbin and limited stadium disabled parking, largely used by permit holders. Email dslo@cambridgeunited.com or call 01223 566500 to discuss the approach and arrangements for your fixture.

Cambridge and Cambridge North stations both have step-free access to their platforms. Newmarket Road Park & Ride advertises accessible buses and designated bays, but you should check the onward path over Coldham’s Common. AccessAble records a slope and says there is not level access into the away-side accessible entrance. Ask for a suitable gate and arrival route rather than assuming the final approach is step-free.

After the match

After the final whistle, follow the Coldham’s Common path back to Newmarket Road before choosing your onward route. For the Park & Ride, join the designated return service and allow for the walk and any waiting. The club advertised special 21:00, 21:30 and 22:00 buses for midweek games in 2025/26; confirm the service still applies to your fixture.

If you used a private driveway, check the return route before the game and expect local traffic around Newmarket Road to build. Drivers at Riverside or Gwydir Street can avoid looking for a space in the stadium streets, but neither car park guarantees a quick exit. Rail travellers should check the last useful train and allow enough time to reach Cambridge North or Cambridge station.

Where to stay

Stay around Parker’s Piece or the eastern edge of central Cambridge if you want a football weekend with restaurants and pubs close by. You can travel onwards to the Abbey by Citi 3 or take a longer walk along the Newmarket Road side of town. This is the most useful compromise if you are arriving by train and staying out after the match.

Newmarket Road accommodation is better if minimising the matchday journey matters more than the evening. It puts you closer to the ground and the Park & Ride corridor, but it offers less of central Cambridge’s atmosphere. A Cambridge station hotel makes rail arrivals easy, although it leaves you farther from both the stadium and parts of the city centre.

The Corner House

231 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8JE
10 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORAway supporters wanting a verified away-friendly pub near the ground · Families who want proper food before the match · Groups wanting live sport and covered outdoor space
MATCHDAY INTELThis is the clearest pub candidate near the Abbey. The venue's current website explicitly describes The Corner House as away-fan friendly and family-welcoming, with Nepalese dishes, pub classics, real ale, live sport, heated cabins and an all-weather garden. Its own current directions describe the Abbey Stadium as a 10-minute walk away.
WORTH KNOWINGAway-fan admission is explicitly supported by the venue, but no current source located states an away-colours policy, so colours remain unknown.

South Habbin away-end food & drink outlets

Cledara Abbey Stadium, Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8LN
Away fans welcomeFamily: checkFood available
BEST FORAway supporters who want the most dependable pre-match food and drink option · Late arrivals who do not want to rely on pub admission
MATCHDAY INTELThe most reliable away-supporter option is inside the ticketed South Habbin area.
WORTH KNOWINGThe stadium is cashless for food and drink. Menu items can vary by stand, and fixture-specific opening arrangements should still be checked.
PUB / BAR

The Green Dragon

5 Water Street, Chesterton, Cambridge, CB4 1NZ
15 min walkUsually away-friendlyFamily: checkFood available
BEST FORSupporters wanting a pub atmosphere without going into the city centre · Home supporters looking for a regular matchday meeting place · Supporters who value outdoor space and food
MATCHDAY INTELThe Green Dragon is one of the strongest supporter-led matchday leads. A Cambridge supporter described it as busy on matchdays and recommended it before the April 2026 Barrow game, while a current ground guide specifically lists it as an option for away fans. The pub's own site confirms current opening and Lebanese street food, with a large riverside garden.
WORTH KNOWINGThe current venue hours show Monday closed. Away colours are not covered by the available current evidence, so they should be checked directly for higher-profile fixtures.
PUB / BAR

Abbey Lounge / Cambridge United Supporters Club

530 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8LN
Away access: fixture dependentFamily: checkLimited food
BEST FORCambridge United supporters wanting a traditional pre-match club · Away supporters only when fixture-specific admission is confirmed
MATCHDAY INTELThe Abbey Lounge is the current home of Cambridge United Supporters Club and its 2026/27 website says it opens on matchdays, charges non-members a guest fee and usually operates a kitchen. Away admission is not dependable: a current ground guide says the club is usually open to all supporters, but an MK Dons visitor in February 2026 found it restricted to home fans for that fixture.
WORTH KNOWINGCheck the specific fixture before travelling, especially for early kick-offs, derbies or higher-profile games. Do not assume away colours or away entry are permitted.
PUB / BAR

The Engineer's House

Riverside, Cambridge, CB5 8HN
10 min walkAway access: checkFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORFamilies wanting pizza and outdoor space near the ground · Supporters looking for local beer and a quieter pre-match stop · Food-led groups rather than a traditional football pub
MATCHDAY INTELThe Engineer's House is a useful food-and-beer alternative near the stadium rather than a proven away pub. Its current site confirms Calverley's beer and Neapolitan-style pizza, while CAMRA lists it as family-friendly and card-only. A current football-ground guide places it close to the Abbey, but no current source located confirms an away-fan or colours policy.
WORTH KNOWINGCheck live opening hours, especially on Tuesdays: the venue website and CAMRA currently disagree about Tuesday opening. Away-fan admission and colours are unverified.
PUB / BAR

The Cambridge Blue

85-87 Gwydir Street, Cambridge, CB1 2LG
Away access: checkFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORRail arrivals who want a proper pub stop before heading to the ground · Real-ale and cider drinkers · Supporters who want food and a wider pub area rather than the stadium vicinity
MATCHDAY INTELThe Cambridge Blue is one of the stronger Mill Road/Gwydir Street options for supporters arriving by train. A Gillingham supporter discussing the March 2026 trip said it had been recommended, and a Cambridge United supporter in April 2026 grouped it among Mill Road pubs that have fans in before games. The current venue and CAMRA pages confirm extensive beer choice, food and family-friendly facilities.
WORTH KNOWINGNo current source located gives an explicit away-fan admission or away-colours policy. Keep those fields unknown and avoid presenting it as guaranteed for large travelling groups.
PUB / BAR

The Old Ticket Office

Cambridge Railway Station, Cambridge, CB1 2JW
Away access: checkFood available
BEST FORRail arrivals only if reopening is confirmed before travel
MATCHDAY INTELThe Old Ticket Office would normally be an obvious station-side option, but it should not currently be recommended. Its official website says 'We Are Open' and lists food and opening hours, while CAMRA says the pub has been temporarily closed since 5 September 2026 and is expected to reopen on or before 30 October 2026.
WORTH KNOWINGAs of the 2 October 2026 research date, treat the venue as unavailable until a live reopening is verified. Away-fan and colours policies are also unverified.
PUB / BAR

The Wrestlers

337 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8JE
7 min walkNot for away fansFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORCambridge United supporters wanting Thai food close to the stadium · Families looking for a food-first pub · Post-match food when admission is not football-sensitive
MATCHDAY INTELThe Wrestlers remains a strong food pub close to the Abbey, with its current site centred on Thai food and cask ale and CAMRA listing it as family-friendly. For away supporters, however, the latest football-specific guidance says it is home fans only, so it should not be presented as an away pub despite older guides suggesting discreet away visitors could be served.
WORTH KNOWINGAway access is currently treated as no. The available evidence does not separately state an away-colours rule, so away_colours remains unknown rather than inferred.

FANZONE

BrewBoard Fan Zones

Where it isCledara Abbey Stadium, Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8LNView on map ↗

Away access: checkFamily: checkFood available
BEST FORHome supporters who want to stay at the ground before kick-off · Supporters wanting club-run food and drink rather than a pub
WORTH KNOWINGTreat away access as unknown. The visiting section has its own food-and-drink provision, so away supporters should not rely on the home-side BrewBoard zones unless Cambridge United gives fixture-specific confirmation.
