Identity & place

What this club is really about

Notts carry 1862 as a living connection to football's beginnings. Modern supporters have also known administration, a fan-led rescue, the Munto affair, relegation from the Football League in 2019 and a return in 2023 after 107 points still fell short of automatic promotion. Sirrel, Wheeler, Slater and Lawton sit alongside the Juventus connection, The Pie and the Wheelbarrow Song in a history fans know how to cherish and question.

Reedtz-era data-led operations helped restore EFL football; promotion to League One in 2026 opened another chapter beyond the recovery from 2019.

The Wheelbarrow Song

A popular account puts the Wheelbarrow Song's breakthrough at a wet Shrewsbury game in April 1990, when a miserable promotion chase improved as Notts recovered to draw. Other versions survive, so that night remains the best-known supporter tale…
