Match night · 2 guests · 1 room
Holiday Inn Stevenage by IHG
Town centre / St George's Way
The best all-round football-trip choice. It is close enough to walk to the stadium, close enough to the station to avoid a taxi on arrival, and the recent review evidence is stronger than the similarly placed budget alternatives. Its sampled Friday prices were notably good value, although Stevenage's business demand can make some midweek nights much dearer.
- About a 15-minute walk from the stadium, so there is no need to depend on a post-match taxi.
- About a nine-minute walk from Stevenage Station, which suits rail-based away supporters.
Hotels.com places SPORTA Arena/the former Lamex Stadium about 0.8 miles and 15 minutes on foot from the hotel.
Old Town is a better evening pub/restaurant base, so this is the practical rather than the characterful nightlife choice.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.
Roebuck Inn
Roebuck / London Road, south Stevenage
The clear closest practical hotel to the ground. It is around 0.6 miles from SPORTA Arena/the former Lamex, so supporters can walk back in roughly 10–12 minutes after the match. The compromise is hotel quality and evening location: recent guests often praise the staff, cleanliness and Indian restaurant, but multiple current sources also describe the property as dated and in need of some updating.
- Around 0.6 miles from the stadium, with third-party route estimates of roughly 11 minutes on foot.
- Free parking is advertised by the hotel.
Expedia places the stadium about 0.6 miles and 11 minutes on foot from the hotel; another current hotel listing gives roughly 9–12 minutes.
It is away from Stevenage Station and Old Town, so it is weaker for rail arrivals and post-match nightlife.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.
Hotel Cromwell Stevenage
Stevenage Old Town High Street
The best choice if you want the overnight part of the trip to feel like more than a bed near a bypass. It sits directly on Old Town High Street among pubs, cafés and restaurants and has its own bar/brasserie.
- Directly on Stevenage Old Town High Street, the town's strongest independent food-and-drink area.
- Own Rump & Wade brasserie and bar on site.
Third-party listings place the hotel roughly 2.3–2.8 miles from the stadium depending route/method. Treat this as a taxi/bus hotel for matchday rather than a practical stadium walk.
It is not a sensible walk-to-the-ground choice after an evening match; plan on a taxi or bus.

Parking
Driving & road restrictions
For the ground, use Broadhall Way, Stevenage, SG2 8RH and follow signs from junction 7 of the A1(M) along the A602. If you intend to use the free matchday car park, follow the Fairlands Valley signs opposite the stadium rather than trying to enter the club's car park.
Stevenage FC says there is no general supporter parking inside the ground. Avoid the nearby retail parks, grass verges and residential streets, and use the pedestrian underpass when crossing from Fairlands Valley.
The A602 and stadium roundabout become busy around kick-off and full-time. Check live road information before departure; no specific future matchday closure has been verified for this guide.
- Ground postcode
- SG2 8RH
- Approach
- A1(M) junction 7, then A602 towards Stevenage and Broadhall Way
- General stadium parking
- Unavailable to ordinary supporters on matchdays
- Crossing from free car park
- Use underpass below A602, not the carriageway
Parking & park-and-ride
Free parking is normally the sensible choice at Stevenage, so you usually need not book. Head for the authorised Fairlands Valley Showground car park opposite the SPORTA Arena, rather than hunting for residential parking. The stadium itself has no general supporter spaces.
The club and visiting teams describe around 500 free spaces at Fairlands Valley, with roughly five minutes on foot to the ground. Use the signed underpass beneath the A602, then walk towards the South Stand on Monkswood Way. The spaces are not reserved, so aim to arrive around 75–90 minutes before kick-off, earlier for a large following.
We could not confirm any particular nearby residential street as unrestricted for a whole match. Council orders and permit schemes vary by street, while the club asks supporters not to park in residential areas. Do not treat an unsigned-looking space or a grass verge as permission.
If Fairlands Valley is closed or full, Westgate multi-storey in the town centre is a reliable paid alternative. Its published daytime tariff is £6 for up to five hours Monday to Saturday, or £2.50 on Sundays; allow around 20–30 minutes to walk. St George's Way multi-storey offers similar charges, but check its refurbishment restrictions.
Never use Roaring Meg or another retail car park for the match. Football guidance cites matchday limits of 90 minutes or two hours, with no general football-parking permission. Allow around four hours for the whole visit, including both walks, pre-match time and delays.
Fairlands Valley was closed for a separate private event at an August 2026 fixture, so check the latest club notice before setting off. Its single exit can also cause queues after full-time; wait patiently or use the town-centre fallback on busy dates.
- Parking verdict
- Free official supporter parking is normally realistic; booking is not necessary, but confirm fixture-specific access and keep a paid fallback
- Free option — Fairlands Valley Showground
- Normally free supporter car park opposite stadium; around 500 spaces, not pre-bookable or guaranteed
- Walk — Fairlands Valley
- About five minutes to stadium using signed A602 underpass; follow South Stand signs for away entrance
- Arrive by — Fairlands Valley
- Suggested 75–90 minutes before kick-off, earlier for larger fixtures; editorial guidance, not a published occupancy guarantee
- Matchday availability — Fairlands Valley
- Not guaranteed: unavailable for Stevenage v Doncaster on 29 August 2026 due to private event; single exit can cause delays
- Legal restrictions — residential streets
- No individual nearby stretch verified free for an entire match; council schemes and waiting restrictions vary, and club discourages residential parking
- Legal restrictions — named permit streets
- Green Street, Ivel Road and parts of Woolners Way entered a permit scheme from 5 January 2026; these are council examples, not recommended stadium parking
- Legal restrictions — town centre pay-and-display
- Danestrete, Marshgate, Southgate, The Quadrant, Swingate and behind Westgate: charges Monday–Saturday 8am–8pm, free outside controlled hours including Sunday
- Paid fallback — Westgate Multi-storey
- Westgate, SG1 1QR: Monday–Saturday 7am–7pm £6 up to five hours; Sunday £2.50 any duration; no maximum stay, card-only ANPR
- Paid fallback — St George’s Multi-storey
- St George’s Way, SG1 1EP: Monday–Saturday 6am–7pm £6 up to five hours; Sunday £2.50; no maximum stay, card-only ANPR
- Paid fallback — St George’s works
- North-side closure announced 13 September to mid-October 2026 with south side remaining open; current reopening not verified
- Paid fallback — Southgate
- Southgate, SG1 1AR: 24/7 long-stay car park; £7.10 daytime Monday–Saturday, £2.60 Sunday or evening tariff
- Walk — town centre fallback
- Approximately 20–30 minutes on foot depending on car park, route, pace and South Stand entrance; allow extra time
- Booking recommendation
- Do not book for Fairlands Valley; use a lawful town-centre car park if it is closed or full, or book a genuinely authorised private space if essential
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Roaring Meg
- Not suitable for supporters: club 2025/26 charter cites two-hour matchday limit, while other guides cite 90 minutes; confirm signs for shopping use only
- Supermarket permission/time limit — other nearby retailers
- No verified stadium-visitor permission or suitable whole-match stay: do not use nearby customer-only retail parks
- Total dwell time
- Allow around four hours for a typical league match visit: arrival buffer, 90 minutes plus half-time/stoppages, both walks and exit delays; longer for cup extra time
- After the match
- Fairlands Valley has a single exit, with possible bottleneck; town-centre car parks avoid the immediate stadium exit but require longer walk

Matchday advice: Free parking is normally the sensible choice at Stevenage, so you usually need not book. Head for the authorised Fairlands Valley Showground car park opposite the SPORTA Arena, rather than hunting for residential parking.
Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Stevenage station for the football ground. Great Northern, Thameslink and longer-distance services serve the town, and you should allow roughly 25–30 minutes to walk to the South Stand rather than expecting to step off the train beside the stadium.
Stevenage Interchange is opposite the station for local buses, with taxis another option if you cannot manage the walk. Check the return train before an evening kick-off, as bus connections and rail services may be less convenient after the final whistle.
National Rail lists step-free category B1 access, but Great Northern reported a lift outage affecting platforms 1 and 2 from 8 October 2026. If you need step-free travel, check the latest assistance arrangements before setting off.
- Recommended station
- Stevenage (SVG), on Lytton Way beside the town centre
- Walking time to ground
- Approximately 25–30 minutes; depends on route and pace
- Station accessibility
- National Rail category B1; current lift defects require a fresh accessibility check
- Train operators
- Great Northern, Thameslink and other main-line operators serve Stevenage
Station to ground & away entrance
Head for the South Stand on Monkswood Way, not the home turnstiles. From Stevenage station, follow the pedestrian route towards the Gordon Craig Theatre and through the town centre to ASDA. Continue past McDonald’s and Roaring Meg towards the stadium roundabout.
Use the signed pedestrian underpasses at Broadhall Way to reach the correct side of the A602. Never cross the dual carriageway at road level; from the southern side follow signs and stewards towards the away entrance.
Away tickets held for collection have previously been handled at the away ticket office beside the club shop, but collection arrangements are fixture-specific. Check your own club's ticket instructions rather than assuming you can collect at the South Stand.
- Away supporters entrance
- South Stand, accessed from Monkswood Way
- Station walking route
- Gordon Craig Theatre, town centre, ASDA, McDonald’s, Roaring Meg and signed pedestrian underpasses
- A602 crossing
- Use pedestrian underpasses, never cross the dual carriageway at road level
- Ticket collection
- Away ticket office by club shop when collection is offered; depends on fixture

Coaches
Away coaches
If you are using an official away supporters' coach, expect drop-off near the South Stand on Monkswood Way, off the A602. Recent visiting-club guidance places both drop-off and collection immediately outside the away end, avoiding a long walk from the town centre.
Coaches may leave the roadside after dropping off and return for collection. Your organiser should confirm the exact meeting position and time for your fixture, especially if police or stewards change the traffic plan.
For independent minibuses or privately arranged coaches, contact Stevenage before travelling rather than assuming they can remain parked beside the ground.
- Away coach drop-off
- Outside the South Stand on Monkswood Way, off the A602
- Away coach pick-up
- Normally returns to the South Stand approach; follow fixture-specific coach organiser instructions
- Coach layover
- Doncaster supporter guidance says coaches leave after drop-off and return for pickup
Buses
Buses & local travel
From Stevenage Interchange, opposite the railway station, the Arriva SB5 is a useful alternative to walking. The club's access guide identifies stop E and the SB5 route towards Broadwater; check the current stopping pattern and get off at the stop advised for the stadium approach.
A separate football shuttle has been described in older visiting guides, but its 2026/27 operation, fare and return boarding point were not confirmed. Do not plan your journey around that shuttle without checking with the club.
After the match, allow for bus queues and a possible wait for the next service. The town-centre walk is a dependable backup if your mobility and onward train connection allow it.
- Regular bus route
- Arriva SB5 from Stevenage Interchange, stop E, towards Broadwater via Shephall
- Bus interchange location
- Opposite Stevenage railway station
- Older matchday shuttle evidence
- Visiting guide describes a station/bus-station/stadium loop; current season operation unconfirmed
Accessibility
Accessible journeys
Contact Stevenage's Disabled Supporter Liaison Officer before travelling if you need a wheelchair position, help with the approach or an accessible parking arrangement. Four wheelchair spaces are provided for visiting supporters in the South Stand; email dslo@stevenagefc.com or call 01438 223223 to discuss requirements.
The club's access statement describes four dedicated on-site accessible bays and other spaces requiring advance registration, but a September 2026 visiting-club notice says accessible matchday parking was unavailable. Do not assume you have a stadium bay until the club confirms it.
Fairlands Valley offers a reported step-free underpass, although the walk may still be challenging. Stevenage railway station is classed as step-free B1, but an October 2026 lift outage means individual platform access should be checked. The club also notes a long distance between South Stand wheelchair places and the accessible toilet.
- Away wheelchair places
- Four in South Stand; arrange through club or visiting ticket office
- Disabled Supporter Liaison Officer
- dslo@stevenagefc.com; 01438 223223
- On-site accessible parking
- Four dedicated bays plus 14 additional spaces described in earlier club access statement; fixture-specific availability must be confirmed
- Fairlands access
- Reported accessible pathway and underpass from showground; roughly five minutes to ground
- South Stand accessible toilet
- At opposite end of stand from wheelchair positions, over 40m according to club
- Assistance/audio commentary
- Contact DSLO for assistance, receivers and practical arrangements; club references FM commentary and sensory support
- Station lift status
- National Rail category B1; Great Northern reports lifts between platforms 1/2 and footbridge out from 8 October 2026 until further notice
After the match
After the match
If you parked at Fairlands Valley, return through the pedestrian underpass and allow time to leave the car park. It has a single vehicle exit, and supporter reports describe a bottleneck when much of the crowd departs together.
If getting away quickly matters more than the short walk, a paid town-centre car park gives you a different starting point, but adds a longer walk back to the car. Check your outward road direction before choosing where to park.
If travelling by train, allow around half an hour to walk back to Stevenage station rather than making a tight connection. Away coaches normally return to collect by the South Stand; use the collection point agreed with your own organiser.
- Fairlands car park exit
- One vehicle exit, with potential queue after final whistle
- Rail return walk
- Allow around 25–30 minutes from stadium to Stevenage station, plus post-match crowds
- Coach return
- Organised coaches collect outside away South Stand according to visiting supporter guidance; confirm on fixture day
- Stadium car park exit rule
- Club charter notes its restricted on-site parking exits are managed until spectators have left; not relevant to general supporters parking at Fairlands
Where to stay
If you need to stay overnight, choose Stevenage town centre near the railway station rather than the stadium's retail-park area. It makes arrival and the onward journey easier, with the ground a manageable walk or local bus ride away.
Holiday Inn Express Stevenage advertises a location around six minutes on foot from the station; Holiday Inn Stevenage is on St George's Way near the town centre. Both are practical examples rather than reasons to stay overnight for an ordinary afternoon match.
Drivers wanting a hotel car park should check the property's guest conditions, charges and registration process. Do not assume a nearby retailer or hotel will allow non-guest matchday parking.
- Best overnight area
- Town centre or railway station area for onward connections and walk/bus to ground
- Example hotel near station
- Holiday Inn Express Stevenage, advertised approximately six minutes’ walk to railway station
- Example town centre hotel
- Holiday Inn Stevenage, St George’s Way, SG1 1HS
- Hotel parking conditions
- Premier Inn Stevenage Central advises guests to register their vehicles at reception for its hotel parking; not permission for non-guests to park for football

Stevenage play at SPORTA Arena on Broadhall Way, the ground many away guides still call the Lamex. Visiting supporters usually enter the South Stand; the club-run Broadhall Bar beside that end is the nearest documented away-welcoming pint, though its opening arrangements can change by fixture. Our Mutual Friend is the best-supported pub a short walk away, with the Roebuck an option for a later pint or sit-down Indian meal. Trains arrive at Stevenage, about 20 minutes’ walk from the stadium; meet around the New Town square or Old Post Office before following the pedestrian route and underpasses. Don't cross the A602 at road level. Day’s Fish & Chips on Broadwater Crescent works for an early Saturday lunch, but closes at 2pm; JJ’s Plaice and central cafés suit arrivals eating before the walk. Old Town has better independent meals and traditional pubs for overnight visitors, but requires a deliberate detour. The stadium kiosks provide a fallback, and mobile food traders should only be expected when that fixture's guide confirms them.

Food & quick bites
Where to grab a bite, have a proper meal or try the local matchday favourite.
Day's Fish & Chips
The strongest independent quick-food stop close to the ground. Pick up cod and chips or a sausage meal and head towards the visiting entrance.
The Fish & Chip Shop
An established Old Town chippy serving sit-in and takeaway fish and chips, well suited to a longer visit or a post-match meal.
SPORTA Arena away-end tea bars
The simplest food fallback if you arrive late. Club-published menus give burgers, pies, chips and hot drinks, although queue length and what is stocked can vary.
JJ's Plaice
Best rail-arrival chippy if you want to eat in the centre before walking to the stadium. The shop advertises Saturday lunchtime and evening collection.
Lolo Cafe & Bistro
A substantial brunch option rather than another chain burger. Turkish eggs, shakshuka or a full English make sense if you are spending the morning in Old Town.
The Tea Cosy
An independent early-opening café choice near the town centre if you want a seated breakfast or tea before setting off for the ground.
Bella Vista
A straightforward traditional café for a fry-up before the football. The central location suits supporters arriving early by train and wanting food before the 20-minute ground walk.
Manna Seoul Korean food van (fixture-specific)
A more interesting food option than the usual kiosk pie when the Korean van is booked for a match. It was advertised at the September 2026 Luton fixture.
