Huddersfield Town

A mill-town football club that had to make space beside rugby, nearly became a Leeds club, then became England's first three-in-a-row league champion — and whose supporters have twice organised when the club's continuity was at stake.

What this club is really about

Town arrived late in a place already devoted to rugby, nearly left for Leeds in 1919 and then won the FA Cup and three consecutive league titles. The three stars still carry the pride of that sudden rise. Supporters also remember organising to keep their club alive: the retention campaign of 1919 and Survival Trust of 2003 belong to different generations with the same attachment to Huddersfield.

Why that identity still matters

The three titles live on in shirts, murals and supporter projects, while memories of 2003 keep ownership and finances close to fans' concerns. Blue-and-white stripes, 'Smile A While', the Cowshed name and the simple word 'Town' bring familiar Huddersfield traditions into the modern Accu Stadium.
