Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre by IHG
Lime Street / St George's Quarter
For a typical overnight football trip this is the most balanced recommendation. You can step off the train at Lime Street, leave your bags, walk a short distance to the 917 departure point at Commutation Row and still be in the city centre when you come back after the match.
- Opposite Liverpool Lime Street, so rail arrivals and early departures are unusually simple.
- The official 917 express to Anfield leaves from Commutation Row near Lime Street and is advertised by Liverpool FC as about a 15-minute journey.
Approximate pedestrian route; most supporters will prefer the 917 express or another matchday bus. Liverpool FC describes Anfield as about two miles north of the city centre.
It is a city-centre hotel, so you still have to manage the post-match bus queue or walk back rather than simply crossing the road from the stadium.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.

The Arc Hotel
Anfield Road
If the brief is 'as close as possible without dropping the quality bar', The Arc is the most convincing choice. It is on Anfield Road and recent reviews include real match-night stays praising the short walk, cleanliness, breakfast and staff. That makes it a more defensible recommendation than simply picking whichever room happens to plot nearest to a stadium pin.
- Within a few minutes' walk of Anfield, so the post-match journey is effectively removed.
- Recent 2026 match-night Tripadvisor reviews are unusually specific and positive about football-trip use.
Approximate route. The hotel describes itself as less than a five-minute walk from Anfield; recent guests describe it as effectively beside the stadium.
You are choosing the stadium district rather than Liverpool's main evening economy.
Compare live rates and room options for your dates.

The Resident Liverpool
Ropewalks / Seel Street
This is the nightlife choice because it is actually on Seel Street in Ropewalks, not because a marketing page calls it 'central'. The useful bit is that its review record suggests you do not have to accept a poor night's sleep in return: recent guests repeatedly describe the rooms as quiet despite the lively streets outside.
- Bars, restaurants and late-night venues in Ropewalks are immediately around the hotel.
- Tripadvisor's 2026 evidence is similarly strong, especially for cleanliness, service, value and sleep quality.
Approximate pedestrian route. Walking is possible for fit supporters, but the better plan is usually city-centre matchday transport and then walking back into Ropewalks.
The 917 departure point is not on the doorstep; allow time to walk back towards Lime Street/Commutation Row.

Parking
Driving & road restrictions
If you must drive, set your sat-nav for the car park you have chosen, not Anfield itself. Bootle Strand on Vermont Way, L20 4XZ, gives you an organised parking and shuttle option outside the immediate stadium streets. Liverpool ONE or Mount Pleasant is a better starting point if you want food or drinks in the city before the match.
Avoid the residential roads around Anfield. The council operates football-match residents' parking zones, and Liverpool FC warns that parking enforcement is active on matchdays. People offering to sell roadside spaces in yellow jackets are not an authorised council parking service.
Walton Breck Road is subject to matchday road closures and Anfield Road is closed to through traffic on a section near the ground. These restrictions make last-minute driving towards the turnstiles a poor plan. Check the fixture travel notice for diversions before departure.

Parking & park-and-ride
Don't rely on free residential parking at Anfield. Liverpool FC asks visiting drivers to avoid neighbourhood streets, and the council enforces football-match parking zones. There are a few designated free bays within those zones, but their exact positions and availability cannot be recommended as a reliable plan.
For a straightforward drive-and-ride visit, use the Strand Shopping Centre multi-storey in Bootle, entering from Vermont Way, L20 4XZ. It charges £4 for four to five hours or £7.50 for longer stays. Walk to Bootle Bus Station for the 968 shuttle, costing £2 each way, then follow the wayfinding from Everton Valley to Anfield.
If Bootle doesn't suit your journey, park in the city centre. Liverpool City Council's Mount Pleasant multi-storey is open 24 hours, with a £6.50 daytime five-hour tariff. You can reach the 917 matchday bus from Commutation Row; Q-Park at Liverpool ONE is another 24-hour, pre-bookable option for the city-centre services.
Allow at least four to five hours for parking, travel, security checks, the match and returning to your car. Bootle Strand publishes different closing times by fixture, so check its notice, particularly for evening and Sunday matches. Arrive well before the last inbound shuttle rather than hoping to find a space near the ground.
Do not use supermarket parking unless its operator explicitly authorises a football-length stay. We could not verify any nearby supermarket as suitable, and no advertised free on-street stretch was established far enough from the ground to recommend legally. Booking a legitimate private driveway is possible, but check that the booking confirms use for the whole match and gives you the actual access instructions.
- Parking verdict
- Use authorised paid parking or park-and-ride; no dependable named free street option near Anfield
- Free option — marked bays inside FMRPZ
- Council acknowledges a few free bays, but does not identify a visitor-ready street/side/section
- Legal restrictions — Anfield FMRPZ
- Resident bays/permit parking applies with zone signs 10am to midnight, 1 August to 30 June inclusive
- Legal restrictions — near Robson Street and Breckfield Road North
- Beware unofficial sellers offering public-highway parking; not an authorised council service
- Club policy — residential parking
- Liverpool FC asks fans not to park on residential streets; enforcement on matchdays

- Walk — Bootle Strand
- Use 968 shuttle and short walk from Everton Valley; not a practical walk from Bootle
- Arrive by — Bootle
- Aim several hours before kick-off; first 968 buses start 3 hours before, last inbound 30 minutes before
- Total dwell time
- Allow at least 4–5 hours including walking/shuttle, queueing, a football match and return

Matchday advice: Don't rely on free residential parking at Anfield. Liverpool FC asks visiting drivers to avoid neighbourhood streets, and the council enforces football-match parking zones.
Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Liverpool Lime Street for long-distance trains, then take the 917 express from nearby Commutation Row to Anfield. The club puts the bus journey at roughly 15 minutes, making it more useful than looking for a train that stops beside the ground. Check engineering works and leave time for the onward bus queue.
If you are already travelling on Merseyrail, change onto the Northern line for Sandhills and use the matchday Soccerbus. Sandhills and Kirkdale are both also roughly half an hour's walk from Anfield, so walking is the fallback if the shuttle queue is long. Neither station is right outside the turnstiles.
For a step-free railway journey, Lime Street, Sandhills and Kirkdale all currently list access to their platforms. Bank Hall does not, and is not a suitable substitute for someone who needs step-free access.

Station to ground & away entrance
Approach the away entrance from 97 Avenue for Liverpool's Anfield Road Stand. The club's visiting-supporter guide directs visiting fans to entrances Q and R, reached from the 97 Avenue side of Anfield Road rather than directly from Arkles Lane. Follow the coloured wayfinding and your match ticket because stewarded access can change.
If you arrive from the Arkles Lane coach park, follow the route via Dahlia Walk through Stanley Park towards 97 Avenue. Do not assume you can walk straight along Anfield Road: the club identifies a closed section between Skerries Road and Alroy Road.
Get to your assigned entrance in good time for searching. Liverpool's 2025/26 visiting guide says visiting turnstiles opened two hours before kick-off; confirm the time for your fixture.

Coaches
Away coaches
Supporters travelling on an organised away coach should follow their club's allocation and police or steward directions. Liverpool's official visiting guide names Arkles Lane as the usual visiting-coach parking area, but coach positions can change for individual fixtures or large allocations.
From Arkles Lane you still need to reach the away turnstiles via the Stanley Park route towards Dahlia Walk and 97 Avenue. Do not attempt the closed section of Anfield Road or assume the coach parking is beside the away entrance.
Before kick-off, agree a post-match meeting point with your coach organiser and keep the organiser's phone number. Return to the instructed coach location after the final whistle rather than following ordinary shuttle-bus queues, which use different stops.
- Visiting coach parking, normal guide
- Arkles Lane
- Coach walk to visitors entrance
- Follow Dahlia Walk and 97 Avenue; do not try to cut through closed Anfield Road

- Confirm with visiting club or organiser for each fixture

- Liverpool has used Arkles Lane and Priory Road for earlier fixtures; allocation is event-specific
Buses
Buses & local travel
Take the 917 from Commutation Row if you are coming from Lime Street or the city centre. Stagecoach runs its direct matchday shuttle from three and a half hours before kick-off, with returns from Walton Lane after the final whistle. The advertised adult fare is £2 single or £4 return.
For Merseyrail passengers, use Soccerbus from Sandhills, with an adult return currently £3.80 when added to a rail ticket or £4 bought aboard. Merseyrail publishes a three-hour pre-match window and buses for up to 90 minutes after full-time. Allow for queues rather than planning a tight last train.
If you're travelling from Liverpool ONE, Arriva runs the 926 out and 927 back. Bootle's 968 service is a separate option for people using Strand parking; check where the return bus stops before kick-off.

Accessibility
Accessible journeys
Contact Liverpool FC's disability team before booking if you need accessible parking or a shorter route to the away seats. Matchday spaces are very limited and allocated through an advance request or ballot, not on arrival. The club lists Arkles Lane/Wylva Road as an accessible drop-off option for the Anfield Road Stand.
Away wheelchair provision depends on the fixture's allocation. Liverpool's stadium accessibility hub describes up to 24 pitchside away positions, while another visiting-supporter page refers to 12 bays. Confirm your actual space and entrance with the club rather than assuming either number is guaranteed.
Liverpool Lime Street, Sandhills and Kirkdale list step-free platform access, and the Soccerbus is described as accessible. Check live lifts and assistance before travel. For additional needs, contact disability@liverpoolfc.com or 0151 264 2500.

After the match
After the match
Plan your return transport before kick-off, because the roads around Anfield are heavily managed at full-time. For Lime Street and the city centre, follow signs to the 917 queue on Walton Lane. Stagecoach starts return buses after the final whistle, but the queue and journey can take longer after a major game.
For Merseyrail, use the Soccerbus back to Sandhills, then join your train. It normally runs for 90 minutes after the match, so check your final connection before choosing to stay behind. Liverpool ONE's 927 and Bootle Strand's 968 use different stops around Everton Valley and St Domingo Road.
If you have parked at Bootle Strand, return for the correct 968 and check its published car-park closing time. Drivers leaving authorised spaces near the stadium should expect Walton Breck Road closures and give pedestrians time to clear before moving off.

Where to stay
Stay around Lime Street and St George's Quarter if you want the simplest football journey. You'll be close to your inter-city train and the Commutation Row matchday shuttle, without having to spend the evening in the mainly residential streets immediately around Anfield.
For more pubs, restaurants and a late night, choose Ropewalks around Bold Street, Seel Street or Concert Square. You'll travel a little farther to the shuttle, but the city-centre choice is much wider than beside the stadium. Liverpool ONE is another useful base for fans using the 926 and 927 buses.
Stay near Anfield only if walking back after the match matters more than easy rail travel and city nightlife. Match nights can cause major hotel price changes, so check your actual date before booking and allow for late finishes.
- Best for railway and matchday transfer
- Lime Street / St George’s Quarter
- Best for nightlife
- Ropewalks, Bold Street and Seel Street
- Liverpool ONE bus base
- Arriva 926 and 927 connect Liverpool ONE with Anfield
- Stadium-area accommodation trade-off
- Anfield is residential with constrained parking and matchday access; less practical for city-centre evening
- Hotel pricing
- Match and city events affect rates; check live date rather than rely on sample snapshots

Liverpool is easiest if train arrivals meet in the city centre, then move out to Anfield later. Lime Street is the main station; the 917 runs from nearby Commutation Row and Liverpool’s guide puts the journey at about 15 minutes. For a pint by the ground, the Arkles remains the strongest away lead, backed by recent visiting-club guidance, but it gets packed and admission or colours can tighten by fixture. The Flat Iron and Thomas Frost are useful fallbacks, while Ship & Mitre and Ma Egerton’s suit supporters who would rather stay central. The away allocation is in the Anfield Road Stand, but do not assume the Arkles Lane side is the entrance: recent guidance routes visitors via 97 Avenue, with exact turnstiles changing between fixtures. Food is better than an afterthought here. Homebaked is the standout local stop for a Scouse or Shankly pie; Kims and Anfield Cafe are quick near-ground options, while Baltic Market works particularly well for groups staying around the Baltic Triangle.
