FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW BROMLEY TO AFC WIMBLEDON

This fixture is still months away, on 13 February. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Bromley are involved in the promotion picture by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Bromley are 23rd in League One after 10 league games, with 8 points. Before the season, they were seen as a side likely to face a survival fight.

AFC Wimbledon are 16th in League One after 11 league games, with 12 points. The pre-season outlook had them down as a side likely to face a survival fight.

Recent results give AFC Wimbledon two points from a possible fifteen, with two draws and three defeats in their last five league games. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

The destination is The Cherry Red Records Stadium in London. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. Choose Wimbledon Broadway/town centre for the best balance of hotel quality, food, pubs and rail connections. Stay by Wimbledon Park if being close enough to walk to Plough Lane is the priority. Choose Balham if you want a larger concentration of bars, restaurants and late entertainment and are happy to make a short post-match Tube/taxi journey. There is an established rivalry here, which gives the away end an extra reason to turn out. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

Make the football the reason to go and give yourself enough time to enjoy it. Check the confirmed kick-off and ticket arrangements before committing to travel or a hotel, then choose the plan that lets you support Bromley from the away end without rushing the whole day.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Antoinette Hotel Wimbledon

Antoinette Hotel Wimbledon

Wimbledon Broadway / Wimbledon town centre

The best all-round MatchdayHotels pick for AFC Wimbledon. It is a proper independent hotel in Wimbledon rather than a room above a pub, has a much larger and stronger recent review record than the nearest accommodation, and keeps supporters close to Wimbledon station, restaurants and pubs.

  • Strong current reputation: Booking.com was showing an 8.5/10 score from roughly 1,300 reviews, while Tripadvisor showed 4.2/5 from about 1,350 reviews.
  • Recent 2026 reviews repeatedly praise helpful staff, cleanliness, comfortable beds, air conditioning and value.
The match journey

Tripadvisor lists the hotel about 0.9 miles from AFC Wimbledon. A walk is possible but the most comfortable matchday plan is usually a short local bus/taxi from Wimbledon town centre. Treat the walk time as approximate and allow longer around full-time.

The trade-off

It is not the closest practical hotel to Plough Lane; supporters prioritising the shortest match journey can stay nearer Wimbledon Park.

Our view

The best all-round MatchdayHotels pick for AFC Wimbledon. It is a proper independent hotel in Wimbledon rather than a room above a pub, has a much larger and stronger recent review record than the nearest accommodation, and keeps supporters close to Wimbledon station, restaurants and pubs. It is not a ground-side hotel, so the final leg to Plough Lane should be treated as a short local bus/taxi journey or a roughly half-hour walk rather than sold as doorstep convenience.

Why it suits this trip

  • Strong current reputation: Booking.com was showing an 8.5/10 score from roughly 1,300 reviews, while Tripadvisor showed 4.2/5 from about 1,350 reviews.
  • Recent 2026 reviews repeatedly praise helpful staff, cleanliness, comfortable beds, air conditioning and value.
  • Wimbledon Broadway gives supporters food and pub choice without committing to central-London hotel prices.
  • Wimbledon station gives National Rail, District line and tram options, while local buses/taxis cover the last leg to Plough Lane.
  • The sampled price baseline was only modestly higher at weekends, making it a comparatively stable choice for this part of London.

Getting to the ground

Tripadvisor lists the hotel about 0.9 miles from AFC Wimbledon. A walk is possible but the most comfortable matchday plan is usually a short local bus/taxi from Wimbledon town centre. Treat the walk time as approximate and allow longer around full-time.

Pubs and the evening

Plenty of pubs, restaurants and casual food around Wimbledon Broadway and the station for a football overnight, although it is a calmer evening base than Balham or Clapham.

Arriving by train

The hotel is around 0.5 mile from Wimbledon station, giving National Rail, District line and tram connections. South Wimbledon Underground is also close. Local buses/taxis make the final leg to Plough Lane straightforward.

The trade-offs

  • It is not the closest practical hotel to Plough Lane; supporters prioritising the shortest match journey can stay nearer Wimbledon Park.
  • The smallest rooms are genuinely compact, and some reviews mention internal or street noise.
  • Secure parking is limited and offered first-come, first-served rather than guaranteed.
  • Booking.com did not return the property in the nearby-hotel result set for two sampled AFC Wimbledon home-match Saturdays, so matchday availability should be checked early rather than assumed.

Research price context

Typically about £115–£120 midweek and £125–£130 at weekends in the sample. The observed weekend premium was modest at roughly 10%.

The Woodman Pub

The Woodman Pub

Wimbledon Park

The right choice when the supporter says 'keep me close to the ground'. The Woodman is a pub with rooms by Wimbledon Park, already established as a football-supporter stop before AFC Wimbledon matches, and the stadium can be reached on foot without needing to cross London. It is cheaper than the other primary choices.

  • Closest practical primary stay researched for Plough Lane, with a roughly 15–20 minute match walk.
  • A genuine supporter context: away fans are regularly directed to or seen using The Woodman before AFC Wimbledon matches.
The match journey

Approximate practical walking distance via the Wimbledon Park/Plough Lane corridor. Straight-line distance from the published coordinates is about 0.48 mile. Football reports describe supporters gathering at The Woodman and walking towards Plough Lane, confirming that the route is genuinely used on matchdays.

The trade-off

This is accommodation above/with a busy pub rather than a conventional full-service hotel.

WHY STAY HERE?

The Woodman Pub

Wimbledon Park

Our view

The right choice when the supporter says 'keep me close to the ground'. The Woodman is a pub with rooms by Wimbledon Park, already established as a football-supporter stop before AFC Wimbledon matches, and the stadium can be reached on foot without needing to cross London. It is cheaper than the other primary choices. The compromise is accommodation confidence: its large Booking.com sample is broadly positive, but a very small Tripadvisor sample contains credible complaints about cleanliness, road noise and overnight rear access, so it should be recommended for convenience with that caveat visible.

Why it suits this trip

  • Closest practical primary stay researched for Plough Lane, with a roughly 15–20 minute match walk.
  • A genuine supporter context: away fans are regularly directed to or seen using The Woodman before AFC Wimbledon matches.
  • Wimbledon Park Underground is close by and Plough Lane buses including the 156/N87 serve the corridor.
  • The pub itself provides food, pizzas, sports, a beer garden and an easy pre-match meeting point.
  • The sampled prices were consistently around the low-£100s and showed only a small weekend premium.

Getting to the ground

Approximate practical walking distance via the Wimbledon Park/Plough Lane corridor. Straight-line distance from the published coordinates is about 0.48 mile. Football reports describe supporters gathering at The Woodman and walking towards Plough Lane, confirming that the route is genuinely used on matchdays.

Pubs and the evening

The pub itself is the evening offer, with sport, food and events. For a wider restaurant/bar choice, Wimbledon town centre, Earlsfield or Balham is stronger.

Arriving by train

Wimbledon Park on the District line is roughly a five-minute walk away. The location is also useful for buses along Durnsford Road/Plough Lane and for walking to the stadium.

The trade-offs

  • This is accommodation above/with a busy pub rather than a conventional full-service hotel.
  • Some rooms can be affected by traffic and late pub/street noise.
  • A small Tripadvisor sample includes serious cleanliness and rear-access/security complaints; the much larger Booking.com sample is materially more positive, but the complaints should not be ignored.
  • The area is useful for the match but weaker than Wimbledon town centre or Balham for a full evening out.

Research price context

Typically about £105–£115 midweek and £115–£125 at weekends in the sample, with only a small weekend premium.

The Bedford Balham - Live Music Venue

The Bedford Balham - Live Music Venue

Balham

The strongest option for supporters who want the evening to continue after full-time. The Bedford is not simply a hotel near nightlife: it is a well-known Balham pub, restaurant and live-entertainment venue with boutique rooms upstairs, and Balham itself has one of the stronger south-London concentrations of restaurants, pubs and bars.

  • The strongest nightlife setting of the primary choices: Balham has a dense selection of pubs, restaurants, bars and late venues around the station.
  • The Bedford itself combines bedrooms, bars, restaurant dining, live music and comedy, so supporters do not need another journey after checking in.
The match journey

Distance and walk time are approximate. The better post-match plan is to reach Tooting Broadway and take the Northern line to Balham, or use a taxi. This recommendation is intentionally about evening quality rather than stadium proximity.

The trade-off

It is not close enough to Plough Lane to be treated as a stadium-area hotel; allow a post-match Tube/taxi journey.

WHY STAY HERE?

The Bedford Balham - Live Music Venue

Balham

Our view

The strongest option for supporters who want the evening to continue after full-time. The Bedford is not simply a hotel near nightlife: it is a well-known Balham pub, restaurant and live-entertainment venue with boutique rooms upstairs, and Balham itself has one of the stronger south-London concentrations of restaurants, pubs and bars. The trade-off is deliberate: you are giving up proximity to Plough Lane, paying a larger Saturday premium and accepting that late music is part of the property.

Why it suits this trip

  • The strongest nightlife setting of the primary choices: Balham has a dense selection of pubs, restaurants, bars and late venues around the station.
  • The Bedford itself combines bedrooms, bars, restaurant dining, live music and comedy, so supporters do not need another journey after checking in.
  • Booking.com showed a strong 8.4/10 score from roughly 760 reviews, with particularly good location, cleanliness and comfort sub-scores.
  • Balham station gives both National Rail and Northern line connections.
  • After a match, walking to Tooting Broadway then taking the Northern line two stops to Balham is a practical public-transport option; a taxi is simpler late at night.

Getting to the ground

Distance and walk time are approximate. The better post-match plan is to reach Tooting Broadway and take the Northern line to Balham, or use a taxi. This recommendation is intentionally about evening quality rather than stadium proximity.

Pubs and the evening

Balham is one of the stronger nearby food-and-drink bases, with restaurants, pubs and cocktail bars around Balham High Road/Hildreth Street. The Bedford adds its own bars, live music, comedy and late Friday/Saturday opening.

Arriving by train

Balham National Rail and Northern line stations are close to the hotel. From the Plough Lane side, Tooting Broadway provides a useful Northern line connection to Balham.

The trade-offs

  • It is not close enough to Plough Lane to be treated as a stadium-area hotel; allow a post-match Tube/taxi journey.
  • Weekend rates were materially higher than midweek in the sample.
  • This is an entertainment venue: the hotel itself warns that it stays open until 2am on Friday/Saturday and low-level music may be audible in bedrooms.
  • Supporters wanting an early quiet night should choose the Antoinette rather than treating the late atmosphere as a benefit.

Research price context

Highly date-sensitive: sampled midweek rates ranged from about £110 to £180 and averaged roughly £133; sampled Saturdays ranged from £150 to £196 and averaged about £180.

What to expect at AFC Wimbledon

All the key information for Bromley supporters heading to The Cherry Red Records Stadium — from the ground and atmosphere to food, access, parking and matchday practicalities.

#BromleyFC#Ravens
YOUR AWAY DAY · The Cherry Red Records Stadium

The ground

Bromley at AFC Wimbledon

The building itself is modern and compact; most of its distinctiveness comes from the layers supporters have deliberately inserted into it — old gates, a 1912 turnstile, mosaics, museum displays and references to the greyhound/speedway history of the site. That mixture stops “returning home” becoming a fake historical reconstruction.

Views from the away section

Modern away sightlines are generally good.

Why the ground matters

Plough Lane matters because supporters spent nearly three decades singing about a home they did not have, then had to solve the finance and ownership problems required to build one. The stadium is therefore both a football venue and the most expensive practical expression of the founding argument.

Stand features

The restored “Womble Till I Die” gates are displayed here as a surviving object from the old Plough Lane. Commercial stand names can change, but the gates are the stable point of interest.

A turnstile from the old football ground is installed at the new stadium beside modern access equipment.

Volunteer-led collections and stadium interpretation put club history into matchday space rather than treating it as a separate online archive.

The mosaic recreates the famous locked old-ground gates using individual supporter photographs.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Bromley at AFC Wimbledon

Compact stands close to the pitch help create a strong community-ground atmosphere.

Show Me the Way to Plough Lane

Sung during the Selhurst exile before AFC Wimbledon existed. Its subject is the lost home itself, so the eventual return gave the song a completed narrative without removing its historical meaning.

Teaching incoming players the club history

An explicit way of ensuring a squad assembled long after 2002 understands why supporters treat governance and place differently here.

Naming protest around Milton Keynes fixtures

At the 2017 Kingsmeadow meeting, the opponents’ badge was absent from the programme and the scoreboard used “MK”, showing how apparently tiny presentation choices can become identity statements.

Member votes on protected decisions

The supporter culture includes ballots and constitutional procedure alongside terrace culture; major ownership or structural questions cannot simply be treated as boardroom business.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Food & drink

Bromley at AFC Wimbledon

Plough Lane is not a ground where every nearby pub works for visiting support, so your rail route matters. Waterloo arrivals have the cleanest meeting plan at Earlsfield: The Earlsfield is beside the station and has established away-fan evidence, then it is about 20 minutes on foot. District Line groups can use Wimbledon Park and the Woodman, the current designated away pub.

Food and drink around the ground

Haydons Road is the closest rail stop for straight-to-ground travel; Tooting Broadway is better if food matters, with Tooting Market about 25 minutes away. Wimbledon town centre is the best-evidenced overnight base: visiting fans have stayed by the station, with the 493 running to the stadium, and the Alexandra accepts mixed support. Near the ground, the Garden Shed is a current home-and-away option, but do not assume other prominent pubs will admit visitors.

Inside the away end, current guides confirm cashless drinks, pies, sausage rolls, pizza and vegetarian options; older large-following reports warn that concourse queues can be slow.

The Woodman

The current designated away pub and the safest group rendezvous if you are using the District line. It is beside Wimbledon Park station, has a large garden and serves proper pub food before the 20–25-minute walk to Plough Lane.

Haydons Road on Thameslink is the closest railway station to the Cherry Red Records Stadium; AFC Wimbledon quotes about ten minutes on foot to the ground. Away supporters, though, need Gate 7 of the Togglit (North) Stand on Batsford Way, approached via St Martin's Way or Maskell Road, so allow extra time beyond the stadium-frontage walk. From London Waterloo, South Western Railway to Earlsfield is often the more straightforward choice.

Planning your arrival

Be at the stadium perimeter before the busiest turnstile period.

Rail, Underground & tram

Follow Garratt Lane south towards Summerstown, then the signed approach to the away entrance; the club quotes roughly twenty minutes to the stadium. Alternatively, Wimbledon station connects with rail, the District line and trams; bus 493 towards Tooting Broadway calls at Wimbledon Stadium, on the other side of the ground from the away entrance. Tooting Broadway on the Northern line also gives access via local buses.

For step-free journeys, Earlsfield has lifts to all platforms; Haydons Road has steps to its Sutton-bound platform. Check live services, lift availability and the onward route before setting off, especially for an evening match.

Closest rail station
Haydons Road (Thameslink). AFC Wimbledon gives approximately 10 minutes on foot to the stadium itself; allow additional time to reach Gate 7 of the away end.
Away entrance and postcode
Away supporters enter the Togglit (North) Stand through Gate 7, approached from Batsford Way via St Martin's Way or Maskell Road. The away-end postcode used by visiting-club guidance is SW17 0BA; the main stadium postcode is SW17 0NR.
From London Waterloo
Take a stopping South Western Railway service calling at Earlsfield, then walk south along Garratt Lane towards Summerstown and use the signed access streets for Gate 7. Check your chosen train actually stops at Earlsfield.
Earlsfield walking route
AFC Wimbledon quotes about 20 minutes on foot to the stadium from Earlsfield; the away entrance may take longer depending on the approach and matchday crowds.
More practical details 9

Earlsfield step-free access
National Rail category A, with lifts and step-free access to all platforms. This does not guarantee a step-free pavement route to the away entrance; contact the club if accessible entry arrangements are needed.
Wimbledon rail interchange
Wimbledon station is a National Rail, District line and tram interchange. Route 493 towards Tooting Broadway serves Wimbledon Stadium from the town-centre/Alexandra Road side; the bus stop is not Gate 7, so continue around to Batsford Way.
Wimbledon step-free access
Wimbledon station is generally listed by National Rail as step-free category A, with lifts; verify their working status and your actual interchange before travel.
Northern line option
Use Tooting Broadway (Northern line), then a local bus towards the Summerstown/Garratt Lane or Wimbledon Stadium area. Route 493 serves the stadium; routes 44, 77 and 270 serve Garratt Lane. Verify your departure stop and direction using TfL.
District line alternative
Wimbledon Park is on the District line and is a possible approach if travelling via the away-supporters’ Wimbledon Park area; expect a longer onward walk than from Haydons Road, and check step-free access before choosing it.
Return buses
Bus 493 towards Richmond via Wimbledon serves Wimbledon Stadium. Follow the stop directions displayed by TfL; allow for queues and the walk from Gate 7 after full-time.
Wimbledon Station taxi cost guide
Wimbledon Station to the stadium is described by Rome2Rio as about 1.3 road miles. TfL’s 2026 typical metered black-cab bands are £8.40–£13.20 for 1 mile and £12.60–£20.40 for 2 miles depending on tariff. These are general distance bands, NOT a station-to-Gate-7 quote; matchday traffic may increase the metered fare.
Matchday access support
Away supporters requiring accessible parking or stadium access arrangements can contact AFC Wimbledon’s Disability Liaison Officer at dlo@afcwimbledon.ltd.uk; arrange both the station and final approach in advance.

Station to ground & away entrance

Head for the away section at the north end of the ground, not the main entrance on Plough Lane. Approaching from Garratt Lane, follow St Martin’s Way and Maskell Road towards Batsford Way and the visiting turnstiles. Away Gates 6 and 7 have been used, so check your ticket and the instructions for your particular match. The ground’s main postcode is SW17 0NR.

For the away approach, Plymouth Argyle used SW17 0BA, while Doncaster Rovers gave Batsford Way, SW17 0BB, for their September 2026 coach drop-off. Gate 6 has also served as a visiting ticket-collection point; that arrangement can change.

Away stand
North stand, also referred to as the Togglit Stand.
Away entry gates
Visiting north stand: Gates 6 and 7 have been used. Follow ticket and club guide, with approach from Garratt Lane via St Martin’s Way/Maskell Road and Batsford Way.
Away sat-nav postcode

Buses & local travel

Use the 493 bus if you are arriving at Wimbledon station or parking in Wimbledon town centre. Board on Alexandra Road, near the station, towards Tooting and get off at Wimbledon Stadium on Plough Lane. From there, follow the outside of the ground to the visiting entrance rather than using the home gates. For the return, catch the 493 towards Richmond and Wimbledon from the opposite-direction stop.

Services also link Tooting Broadway with Wimbledon Stadium; buses on Garratt Lane give another approach from Earlsfield. Check TfL before travelling because crowds or temporary traffic management can affect the last part of the journey.

Recommended bus

Bus return
493 towards Richmond serves Wimbledon Stadium then Alexandra Road / Wimbledon.
Tooting Broadway bus
493 between Tooting Broadway and Wimbledon Stadium.
Other local buses
Routes along Garratt Lane connect the Earlsfield and Tooting Broadway areas; exact boarding depends on where you start.

Check your booked parking address separately, as the best approach can be away from Plough Lane.

Driving & road restrictions

YOUR AWAY DAY · The Cherry Red Records Stadium

Worth knowing

Bromley at AFC Wimbledon

An interested visitor gets more from Plough Lane by reading the stadium as a set of arguments made physical: this is where supporters wanted to return, this is what they rescued from the old ground, and this is how they acknowledge the sports that were here in between. The Milton Keynes fixture is the obvious exceptional case where ordinary away-day language does not capture the emotional history.

Matchday features

Return-to-Plough-Lane identity. Modern compact bowl. Low-level catering-counter gap

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

A modern ground carrying conspicuously old objects

The turnstile, gates and foundation stone prevent the stadium feeling like a generic new build if you know to look for them.

Supporter ownership is visible in the storytelling

Museum work, mosaics, Trust material and the Plough Lane financing story all make the people in the stands part of the institutional history, not just atmosphere providers.

The site has two sporting histories

Football came back to Plough Lane by building on the former greyhound/speedway stadium, and the heritage displays acknowledge that previous use.

Songs about Plough Lane have literal history

“Show Me the Way to Plough Lane” predates AFC Wimbledon and was sung when returning to the area still looked remote.

The old gates are real, not a replica

Their battered graffiti and rescue history carry more meaning than a newly manufactured heritage sign.

Look for the 1912 turnstile

It is an easily missed mechanical link to the former ground.

The foundation stone has unexplained graffiti

The “Mr. Toad” reading turns a solemn heritage object into an oddly human deep cut.

Notice the greyhound/speedway references

They complicate the simple “we came home” story by admitting that another sporting culture occupied this exact site.

The museum is part of supporter work

WiSH’s volunteers have catalogued and displayed thousands of artefacts, making heritage preservation another form of fan labour.

A detail worth noticing

The new stadium is close to the former football ground but on a different site. The preserved gates, turnstile and foundation stone make the connection material rather than geographical sleight of hand.

Mick the Miller and Ronnie Moore references acknowledge the sporting culture that occupied the new site before football returned.

The freehold transfer and returned patrimony place both ground and historical objects back within the borough associated with Wimbledon football.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Supporter insights combine the site's existing official guidance, supporter-oriented research and fixture checks.

After the match

After the match

For the simplest getaway, leave by the away exit and head back towards Earlsfield or Haydons Road if your onward train serves them. From Wimbledon Stadium, the 493 towards Wimbledon also gives you a connection to the main station and Wimbledon Quarter car park. Leave time for crowds and check the last suitable service.

If you have driven, do not expect to pull straight out of the streets nearest the away end. Coach collection and temporary road controls may be in force, and parking bays can remain restricted after full-time. A car parked in Wimbledon town centre avoids hunting for a nearby space, but you still need to allow time for the bus or walk back.

Post-match bus connection
493 towards Wimbledon from Wimbledon Stadium, then Alexandra Road / Wimbledon station.
Away coach collection
Batsford Way used in September 2026; exact post-match coach pickup is fixture-specific.
Car-park closure
Wimbledon Quarter car park locks at midnight, even though the site opens from 6am.
Temporary traffic constraints
Council matchday plan provides for managed Riverside Road, Summerstown and away-coach circulation; timing and implementation can vary.

Where to stay

Stay around Wimbledon station if you are making a weekend of the match. It offers the easiest mix of rail connections, pubs, food and the 493 bus towards Plough Lane. You can get back into town after the game without relying on a car near the stadium.

Wimbledon Park is a quieter option if you want to walk from the District line side, though it is less convenient for Waterloo trains. Balham works better for an evening out and Northern line travel, but it adds a further journey to the ground. You do not need a hotel merely because parking at Plough Lane is difficult.

Best general overnight base
Wimbledon town centre near Wimbledon station and Alexandra Road 493 bus stops.
Walk-oriented alternative
Wimbledon Park, District line approach, with a roughly 20-25-minute walk to stadium reported by visiting supporters.
Evening-out alternative
Balham, with Northern line connection to Tooting Broadway and onward access; additional journey required.
