BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into The Cherry Red Records Stadium

Head for the away section at the north end of the ground, not the main entrance on Plough Lane. Approaching from Garratt Lane, follow St Martin’s Way and Maskell Road towards Batsford Way and the visiting turnstiles. Away Gates 6 and 7 have been used, so check your ticket and the instructions for your particular match. The ground’s main postcode is SW17 0NR. For the away approach, Plymouth Argyle used SW17 0BA, while Doncaster Rovers gave Batsford Way, SW17 0BB, for their September 2026 coach drop-off. Gate 6 has also served as a visiting ticket-collection point; that arrangement can change.

02 · Before the match

The Woodman

25-minute walk to the ground. The current designated away pub and the safest group rendezvous if you are using the District line. It is beside Wimbledon Park station, has a large garden and serves proper pub food before the 20–25-minute walk to Plough Lane. The away designation is current, but no published source guarantees colours for every fixture. High-risk matches can still bring security changes.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay around Wimbledon station if you are making a weekend of the match. It offers the easiest mix of rail connections, pubs, food and the 493 bus towards Plough Lane.

The Earlsfield

Good for Waterloo arrivals · train-group meet-up

Best meeting point for Waterloo arrivals: an independent pub beside Earlsfield station with established visiting-fan access. From here it is a straightforward Garratt Lane walk of roughly 20 minutes to the away end.

Expect station pub · away friendly · independent

Before you go Away access has good evidence, but colours are not explicitly guaranteed. The pub is narrow and can fill quickly with a sizeable following.

Good for Haydons Road arrivals · near-ground pint

A genuinely useful near-ground option: its current site explicitly welcomes both home and away fans and puts Plough Lane about ten minutes away. Match-ticket holders also get a food discount.

Expect near ground · mixed support · garden

Before you go Away fans are explicitly welcome, but the venue does not publish a colours policy. Kitchen opening varies by day, especially for midweek kick-offs.

Food & drink
Current matchday promotion gives 50% off food on presentation of a match ticket; individual dishes were not reliably text-readable from the live menu.

Good for Wimbledon station arrivals · overnight visitors

A mixed-support pub by Wimbledon station, useful for earlier arrivals and anyone staying in the town centre. It serves a full pub menu; take the 493 if you do not fancy the roughly 28-minute walk.

Expect town centre · mixed support · large pub

Before you go Mixed support is documented, but colours are not explicitly guaranteed. For a tighter schedule, use the 493 rather than walking from Wimbledon.

Food & drink

Good for real ale · smaller groups

The real-ale choice rather than the big away-fan meeting point. CAMRA currently says visiting supporters are welcome and the Hop Back pub opens early for Saturday Wimbledon home games, but food is limited to light snacks.

Expect real ale · traditional pub · quieter option

Before you go This is mainly a drinking stop: the current official food offer is only toasties, cheeseboard and similar snacks. Away colours are not explicitly covered.

Food & drink
Current official information lists a small food offer including toasted sandwiches and a cheeseboard; choose it for beer rather than a full meal.

WHERE TO STAY

Where should you stay?

Compare the ground, station and town-centre hotel options for your trip.

Where to stay

Stay around Wimbledon station if you are making a weekend of the match. It offers the easiest mix of rail connections, pubs, food and the 493 bus towards Plough Lane. You can get back into town after the game without relying on a car near the stadium. Wimbledon Park is a quieter option if you want to walk from the District line side, though it is less convenient for Waterloo trains. Balham works better for an evening out and Northern line travel, but it adds a further journey to the ground. You do not need a hotel merely because parking at Plough Lane is difficult.

AFC Wimbledon Away Guide (2026/27 Season) ↗

Choose Wimbledon Broadway/town centre for the best balance of hotel quality, food, pubs and rail connections. Stay by Wimbledon Park if being close enough to walk to Plough Lane is the priority. Choose Balham if you want a larger concentration of bars, restaurants and late entertainment and are happy to make a short post-match Tube/taxi journey.

For the evening

Wimbledon town centre has enough pubs and restaurants for a straightforward overnight football trip, but Balham has the stronger dedicated evening offer. Balham High Road and the streets around Balham station have a broad mix of pubs, restaurants and bars, and The Bedford itself adds live music, comedy and late opening at weekends.

For the train

Wimbledon is the most useful all-round transport hub, with National Rail, District line and tram connections and local buses towards Plough Lane. Wimbledon Park is useful for the north side of the ground and The Woodman. Haydons Road is one of the closest National Rail stations to the stadium. Tooting Broadway gives a practical Northern line route to Balham after the match.

Hotels to compare

  • Antoinette Hotel WimbledonAntoinette Hotel WimbledonWimbledon Broadway / Wimbledon town centreAll-round choice

Strong current reputation: Booking.com was showing an 8.5/10 score from roughly 1,300 reviews, while Tripadvisor showed 4.2/5 from about 1,350 reviews.

Bear in mind: It is not the closest practical hotel to Plough Lane; supporters prioritising the shortest match journey can stay nearer Wimbledon Park.

    More about this choice

Recent 2026 reviews repeatedly praise helpful staff, cleanliness, comfortable beds, air conditioning and value.

Wimbledon Broadway gives supporters food and pub choice without committing to central-London hotel prices.

Wimbledon station gives National Rail, District line and tram options, while local buses/taxis cover the last leg to Plough Lane.

The sampled price baseline was only modestly higher at weekends, making it a comparatively stable choice for this part of London.

The smallest rooms are genuinely compact, and some reviews mention internal or street noise.

Secure parking is limited and offered first-come, first-served rather than guaranteed.

Booking.com did not return the property in the nearby-hotel result set for two sampled AFC Wimbledon home-match Saturdays, so matchday availability should be checked early rather than assumed.

  • The Woodman PubThe Woodman PubWimbledon ParkFor the shortest ground journey

Closest practical primary stay researched for Plough Lane, with a roughly 15–20 minute match walk.

Bear in mind: This is accommodation above/with a busy pub rather than a conventional full-service hotel.

    Hotel details checked 2026-09-26
    More about this choice

A genuine supporter context: away fans are regularly directed to or seen using The Woodman before AFC Wimbledon matches.

Wimbledon Park Underground is close by and Plough Lane buses including the 156/N87 serve the corridor.

The pub itself provides food, pizzas, sports, a beer garden and an easy pre-match meeting point.

The sampled prices were consistently around the low-£100s and showed only a small weekend premium.

Some rooms can be affected by traffic and late pub/street noise.

A small Tripadvisor sample includes serious cleanliness and rear-access/security complaints; the much larger Booking.com sample is materially more positive, but the complaints should not be ignored.

The area is useful for the match but weaker than Wimbledon town centre or Balham for a full evening out.

  • The Bedford Balham - Live Music VenueThe Bedford Balham - Live Music VenueBalhamFor the evening

The strongest nightlife setting of the primary choices: Balham has a dense selection of pubs, restaurants, bars and late venues around the station.

Bear in mind: It is not close enough to Plough Lane to be treated as a stadium-area hotel; allow a post-match Tube/taxi journey.

    Hotel details checked 2026-09-26
    More about this choice

The Bedford itself combines bedrooms, bars, restaurant dining, live music and comedy, so supporters do not need another journey after checking in.

Booking.com showed a strong 8.4/10 score from roughly 760 reviews, with particularly good location, cleanliness and comfort sub-scores.

Balham station gives both National Rail and Northern line connections.

After a match, walking to Tooting Broadway then taking the Northern line two stops to Balham is a practical public-transport option; a taxi is simpler late at night.

Weekend rates were materially higher than midweek in the sample.

This is an entertainment venue: the hotel itself warns that it stays open until 2am on Friday/Saturday and low-level music may be audible in bedrooms.

Supporters wanting an early quiet night should choose the Antoinette rather than treating the late atmosphere as a benefit.
