Casa Hotel
Whittington Moor / Lockoford Lane
For a normal Chesterfield match trip, Casa is the most complete answer. It is close enough to the stadium that the hotel-to-ground leg barely needs planning, while still being a full-service independent four-star rather than simply the nearest bed. Booking.com currently scores it 9.0/10 across more than 2,800 reviews, with particularly strong comfort and cleanliness scores.
- About 0.1 mile from SMH Group Stadium; third-party mapping lists a 2-minute walk and the club's official rail-to-ground route runs along the hotel boundary.
- Current Booking.com score of 9.0/10 with strong comfort, cleanliness and staff sub-scores.
Hotels.com/Expedia list SMH Group Stadium at about 0.1 mile / 2 minutes; allow roughly 2–3 minutes depending on the entrance used. The club's official pedestrian route from the station runs along the Casa boundary.
Usually one of the dearer practical football options in Chesterfield.

Spire View at THE SPREAD EAGLE
Chesterfield town centre / Beetwell Street
The Spread Eagle is the better overnight base when the football trip includes a proper evening in Chesterfield. It is a historic town-centre pub with six en-suite rooms, food and a bar downstairs, and the market and central drinking/eating streets are close by. Booking.com currently scores it 8.7/10 from more than 500 reviews.
- Town-centre location close to the market, pubs, bars and restaurants.
- Pub, restaurant and rooms are in the same building, useful after an evening fixture.
KAYAK lists the stadium at about 1.3 miles. Allow roughly 25–35 minutes on foot depending on the exact route and entrance; a taxi is the easier post-match choice for many supporters.

Parking
Driving & road restrictions
Set your sat-nav for SMH Group Stadium, 1866 Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, S41 8NZ, but navigate to your actual booked parking location if different. From the M1 south and east approaches, the club advises Junction 29, then the A617 and A61 towards Sheffield Road. From Sheffield, follow the A61 south and turn onto the B6057 for the stadium.
The stadium sits beside Tesco Extra on a busy road corridor, so allow time for the last roundabouts and pedestrians. Sanforth Crescent and Nelson Street opposite the stadium were identified as access-only by a visiting club in April 2026; do not use them to hunt for parking. Recheck temporary restrictions and roadworks shortly before your fixture.

Parking & park-and-ride
Book an authorised matchday space if you want the simplest, shortest walk to Chesterfield’s away end. The stadium has limited pre-booked or permit-controlled spaces, and the club introduced ANPR controls for 2026/27. The best straightforward choice for many visiting drivers is to reserve parking at Tesco Extra on Lockoford Lane through YourParkingSpace before setting off.
That Tesco listing allows matchday-length bookings and is immediately beside the stadium. It is different from using the supermarket’s ordinary customer spaces without a booking. Ordinary customer parking has separate signposted terms, so do not assume shopping parking is valid for a football visit.
Free street parking is possible in the wider area, but we cannot recommend a confirmed, unrestricted stretch close to the away entrance. Derbyshire lists marked free bays on Old Hall Road and Wheatbridge Road without identifying usable sections for this journey. Visiting guides suggest side roads off Sheffield Road, yet some Sheffield Road bays have one- or two-hour limits. Avoid access-only Sanforth Crescent and Nelson Street.
For a paid fallback that does not require searching residential streets, use the council’s Station Approach car park, S41 7UA. It costs £3.10 for up to 24 hours, is open around the clock and takes RingGo only. Expect a longer walk via the station-side route; its 85 spaces are not a reservation or availability guarantee.
For a typical league match, allow at least four hours of parking, and more for pre-match food or a long walk. Arrive around 60–90 minutes before kick-off, especially for a larger fixture. Choose a booking covering your entire visit, and check later return arrangements if it is an evening match or a cup tie with possible extra time.
- Parking verdict
- Booking advisable for a short walk; free on-street parking not sufficiently verified for a named recommendation
- Free option — Old Hall Road / Wheatbridge Road
- County open-data PDF identifies small numbers of marked free bays, but neither exact sections nor reliable away-gate walking route established: do not recommend as a guaranteed or mapped free option
- Free option — roads off Peveril Road / Lockoford Lane
- April 2025 supporters report successful street parking when early, but exact legality and matchday availability not established: no named free recommendation
- Legal restrictions — Sheffield Road
- County open-data lists marked limited-waiting bays with 1-hour and 2-hour limits; hours include 9am–6pm or Mon–Sat 9am–6pm or Mon–Fri 9am–5pm depending on bay; exact bay boundaries unknown
- Legal restrictions — Sanforth Crescent / Nelson Street
- Visiting-club April 2026 guidance identifies these as access-only opposite stadium; do not park
- Legal restrictions — Chesterfield controlled areas
- Derbyshire operates residents permit zones and waiting restrictions; exact position and current sign/TRO must be checked
- Matchday availability — immediate streets
- Away guides describe limited parking; a 2025 fan account says early arrival helps and evening games can be busy; reports do not prove legal rights
- Matchday availability — Tesco reserved
- YourParkingSpace listing is a bookable parking product; 2026 customer reviews include football visits and one account of needing an alternative when full
- Walk — Tesco booked parking
- Beside stadium; club 2025 guide estimates approximately 100 metres to stadium, not a measured distance to specific away turnstile
- Walk — Station Approach
- Follow the station-side Stonegravels Way / Infirmary Road / Canal Wharf / Hazlehurst Lane walking approach; club estimates about 30 minutes from railway station, but exact car-park-to-away-gate time not measured
- Arrive by — Tesco / independent booking
- Plan to park 60–90 minutes ahead of kick-off; editorial planning allowance, not an operator arrival requirement
- Arrive by — unbooked street space
- Only attempt with substantial spare time and immediate authorised paid fallback; no confirmed street or latest supply guarantee
- Paid fallback — Tesco Extra
- Authorised advance booking through YourParkingSpace, Lockoford Lane S41 7JB; 24-hour listing; match-specific total price to check at booking
- Paid fallback — Station Approach
- Council car park, S41 7UA, 85 spaces, £3.10 up to 24 hours, 24h, RingGo-only pay on arrival; not pre-reserved
- Paid fallback — Saltergate
- Council multi-storey, 24h pay on exit, £6.20 up to 4h / £6.80 up to 5h / £8.70 up to 24h; longer town-centre walk, 2.1m height limit
- Paid fallback — club stadium parking
- Club June 2025 guide advertises £12 pre-booked per match; 2026/27 casual-match price and eligibility not independently reconfirmed. Permit/ANPR controls active
- Booking recommendation
- Pre-book Tesco or another explicitly authorised matchday product if close arrival is important; read entry instructions and reserve full visit
- Booking guarantee — Tesco
- YourParkingSpace confirms paid bookings; no personally numbered/physically allocated bay confirmed from the listing
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Tesco
- Tesco permits matchday parking via distinct paid YourParkingSpace booking; ordinary free retail parking has site-specific signposted maximum stay not published for this store
- Supermarket permission/time limit — Asda
- No verified football-use permission or maximum-stay terms for ordinary Asda Chesterfield retail parking; do not recommend
- Supermarket permission/time limit — other retailers
- No verified matchday permission and time limit for Lidl or nearby retail sites; do not recommend for football parking
- Total dwell time
- Allow >=4 hours for a typical league match including arrival, 90-minute match, half-time, stoppages, walking and egress; more with food, longer walks or cup extra time
- After the match — stadium car park
- Club safety notice asks drivers to remain in stadium-car-park bays for 30 minutes after the final whistle or until directed by stewards; notice dated 30 July 2024
- After the match — Station Approach
- Longer walk to car potentially avoids immediate stadium-side release queue; no guaranteed exit-time data
- Park-and-ride
- No dedicated verified Chesterfield FC park-and-ride service found; do not advertise one

Trains
Rail, Underground & tram
Use Chesterfield railway station for the SMH Group Stadium. It is the nearest practical rail arrival point, with a club-published walking route taking about 30 minutes. The station serves intercity and regional routes, and taxis are available outside if you would rather avoid the walk.
Allow enough time for the walk and the queue at your allocated East Stand entrance. Chesterfield station has step-free access to its platforms, but the club’s direct walking route includes steps; station accessibility does not mean the whole journey is step-free. Check your return train before travelling, particularly for evening fixtures.
- Recommended rail station
- Chesterfield (CHD), Corporation Street, S41 7UB
- Walk from station
- Approximately 30 minutes using club walking route
- Station accessibility
- National Rail category A step-free access to all platforms; lifts listed
- Taxi alternative
- Taxi rank at station; published club guide estimated about £7 in 2025, not a current quoted fare
Station to ground & away entrance
Follow Stonegravels Way from Chesterfield station, crossing over the dual carriageway. Turn right down the steps, then use Infirmary Road past Chesterfield College and continue along Canal Wharf. At Hazlehurst Lane, take the path beside the dual carriageway past Casa Hotel towards Lockoford Lane.
At the stadium, head to the Chesterfield College Community East Stand rather than assuming the main West Stand entrance is yours. Visiting fans normally use E1, with additional East Stand blocks opened for larger allocations. Check your ticket and the stewards’ signs for the correct E turnstile, because allocations differ between fixtures.
- Away stand
- Chesterfield College Community East Stand; usually E1, possibly E2/E3 for larger away allocations
- Away turnstiles
- East Stand E-series; Grimsby April 2026 guide specified E1–E3
- Station walking route
- Stonegravels Way, Infirmary Road, Canal Wharf, Hazlehurst Lane, Casa Hotel boundary, Lockoford Lane
- Direct path step-free
- No: club walking directions include steps; alternate step-free route unverified

Coaches
Away coaches
If you are travelling on an official away supporters’ coach, use the drop-off and collection instructions from your operator. Chesterfield says coaches are now parked off-site, so do not assume your vehicle will wait in the stadium car park throughout the match.
The club’s away-fan guide identifies The Red Lion on Sheffield Road as an away-friendly pub with coach parking that must be arranged directly with the venue. That is not an automatic matchday coach allocation. The exact drop-off and return meeting point should come from the coach organiser or Chesterfield before the fixture; allow time to get back after the final whistle.
- Current coach parking rule
- Club 2026/27 notice says all coaches now park off-site
- Possible independently arranged coach parking
- The Red Lion, Sheffield Road; advance agreement with venue required
- Coach station general coach parking
- Chesterfield Coach Station has four pre-bookable free coach bays for visiting groups; not confirmed for fixture away coaches
Buses
Buses & local travel
For a bus to the ground, head towards Chesterfield’s town-centre stops and take a service travelling north along Sheffield Road. Routes 25, 43, 44, 50 and 50A serve the Football Stadium/Stand Road area. From the stop, follow Sheffield Road to the stadium and the East Stand turnstiles shown on your ticket.
This is a town-centre bus connection, not a confirmed dedicated station-to-stadium shuttle. If arriving by train, allow time to reach a suitable town-centre stop or take a taxi from the station. Check your return bus before kick-off: Stagecoach is changing some Chesterfield timetables from 25 October 2026, and late-evening or Sunday journeys may differ.
- Bus services on Sheffield Road
- 25, 43, 44, 50, 50A; stop data also lists 15
- Towards stadium
- Use northbound Sheffield Road service; alight at Football Stadium/Stand Road area
- Town centre departure

- Timetable change
- Minor Stagecoach changes scheduled from 25 October 2026 for 25/50/50A and 43/44
Accessibility
Accessible journeys
If you need accessible parking, contact Chesterfield’s ticket office before travelling rather than relying on a general car park. The club reserves four spaces near the visiting entrance, but warns these may be released to home supporters if not taken 48 hours before kick-off. Ask about the cost, drop-off and the exact approach for your fixture.
Visiting wheelchair supporters are accommodated with the away fans, normally at the front of East Stand block E2. Wheelchair and personal-assistant tickets need advance arrangements; contact the club on 01246 269300 or the Disability Liaison Officer at dlo@chesterfield-fc.co.uk. Chesterfield railway station has step-free platform access, but the direct club walking route includes steps, so arrange an accessible onward journey separately.
- Away accessible parking
- Four visiting-supporter reserved spaces close to visiting entrance; may be offered to home supporters if unbooked 48 hours prior
- Accessible parking booking
- Call ticket office 01246 269300, option 1
- Accessible away seating
- Visiting wheelchair fans at front of block E2; wheelchair and PA tickets arranged via clubs rather than ordinary online inventory
- Accessible facilities
- Accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility in the HUB; see club page for exact route
- Station step-free
- Station category A, lifts to platforms
- Walking route step-free
- false
- Stadium accessibility concerns
- 2025/26 away wheelchair fan reports raise obstructed pitch-level sightlines and stewarding; club responded that procedures would be reviewed
After the match
After the match
After the final whistle, follow your allocated East Stand exit and the stewarded pedestrian route. If you parked in the stadium car park, do not plan an immediate departure: Chesterfield has published a request to remain in your bay for 30 minutes or until stewards release vehicles.
For a train home, allow the club’s roughly 30-minute walk back to Chesterfield station, plus time to leave the stand and reach your platform. If driving from Tesco, expect pedestrian and car traffic around Sheffield Road; a longer walk back to Station Approach may make for a calmer getaway, but exit times have not been verified. Agree a precise coach meeting point with your organiser.
- Stadium car park exit restriction
- Club July 2024 notice requests 30-minute wait or steward permission before leaving
- Return railway walk
- Approximately 30 minutes from stadium to Chesterfield station on published route
Where to stay
Stay near Chesterfield town centre if you are coming by train or want pubs, restaurants and an easier return towards the station. It gives you more to do after the match, while leaving a roughly half-hour walk or a taxi ride to the stadium. Look around the market and central streets when choosing accommodation.
If being close to the turnstiles matters most, Casa Hotel on Lockoford Lane is the obvious ground-side option. It sits by the club’s walking route and near the stadium, but Whittington Moor has fewer evening choices than the centre. For a straightforward Saturday afternoon visit with an easy journey home, there is no need to book a hotel.
- Ground-side hotel
- Casa Hotel, Lockoford Lane, S41 7JB
- Rail-oriented stay area
- Central Chesterfield near station and town-centre pubs/food; longer ground walk
- Town-centre station-to-stadium journey
- Club direct station walking route about 30 minutes
- Overnight necessity
- Conditional on travel/late finish; not required for an ordinary day trip

By rail, Chesterfield station is the starting point rather than the drinking destination: the club’s signed walking route to the SMH Group Stadium takes about 30 minutes and finishes beside Casa Hotel. For a town-centre meet, Pig & Pump by the Crooked Spire gives rail arrivals food and real ale; for a football-first stop, carry on to Sheffield Road. The Derby Tup is the safest away-pub call, explicitly welcoming visiting supporters and seven minutes from the ground, with Beer Parlour and Glassworks useful alternatives. Donkey Derby needs more care: recent supporter evidence calls it predominantly home but says booked away diners have been admitted in colours. Near the turnstiles, Batch House is the strongest food choice, with several independent kitchens opposite the stadium; North Sea Fish Bar, Chesters and Afat’s add chippy and proper-meal options. Away fans now use East Stand block E1, with E2/E3 possible. For overnight trips, Casa is ground-side; the town-centre hotel area suits station, pubs and evening food. Check fixture notices for local derbies and higher-risk games.

Food & quick bites
Where to grab a bite, have a proper meal or try the local matchday favourite.
The Batch House
The near-ground food answer: directly opposite the stadium, explicitly recommended in Chesterfield’s away guide and built around shared tables and independent kitchens. Birria tacos, sourdough pizza, Indian street food, halloumi fries and burgers cover mixed groups well.
Chesters Restaurant & Takeaway
The strongest chippy if you want to sit down rather than eat from paper: Sheffield Road is on the town-to-ground line, the menu is current, and there is unusually broad gluten-free fish-and-chip coverage alongside the normal takeaway.
Away concourse – SMH Group Stadium
Inside E1, this is more than a token pie counter: the latest away guide lists hot dogs, burgers, four pie choices, chicken, chips and nachos, plus alcohol. Useful if you want to go straight through rather than gamble on queues outside.
Cocina at Casa Hotel
For supporters staying next to the ground, Cocina gives Casa Hotel a proper evening-meal advantage: local steak, tapas, grilled meat and fish, with a children’s menu. It is an overnight/post-match choice rather than standard Saturday pre-match food.
North Sea Fish Bar
A proper chippy choice on Sheffield Road, specifically flagged by Grimsby’s visiting guide. Haddock is £9.50 on the current delivery menu, with mini cod and chips at £8.45; quick, familiar fuel before moving back toward the turnstiles.
The HUB Café
A quieter stadium-side option rather than concourse scran. The Community Trust says the café at the rear of the East Stand is open to the public, with coffee, snacks and meals; Chester’s Den makes it particularly practical for families.
Afat's Grill
For a proper meal near the Whittington Moor pub cluster, Afat’s is the standout non-pub option: Turkish charcoal grill, mixed grills, Adana and a £5.95 lahmacun. It suits supporters arriving early enough for table service.
