FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION TO MANCHESTER CITY

This is a cup tie in the Carabao Cup. League position and recent form help explain the teams' seasons, but progression in this competition is the task here, rather than league points.

Brighton & Hove Albion are 3rd in the Premier League after 7 league games, with 16 points. Before the season, they were seen as a mid-table side. Their position is more encouraging than that starting outlook. There is time to change that picture, but these are the results they take into this trip.

Manchester City are 1st in the Premier League after 7 league games, with 21 points. The pre-season outlook had them down as title contenders.

Brighton & Hove Albion's last five recorded league games brought four wins and one draw: thirteen points from a possible fifteen. Recent results give Manchester City fifteen points from a possible fifteen, with five wins in their last five league games.

The destination is Etihad Stadium in Manchester. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For most one-night football trips, Piccadilly is the best compromise: it is the main inter-city rail arrival point, has direct Metrolink access towards the Etihad Campus, is walkable to the ground for supporters who prefer to go on foot, and keeps the Northern Quarter within easy reach. Stay on the Etihad Campus only when the shortest possible post-match return matters more than city-centre choice.

Make the football the reason to go and give yourself enough time to enjoy it. Check the confirmed kick-off and ticket arrangements before committing to travel or a hotel, then choose the plan that lets you support Brighton & Hove Albion from the away end without rushing the whole day.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Motel One Manchester-Piccadilly

Motel One Manchester-Piccadilly

Piccadilly / city-centre east

This is the hotel we would put first for the typical Manchester City overnight trip. It is beside Piccadilly rather than beside the stadium, which is a feature rather than a flaw for most travelling supporters: arrival is easy, the Etihad is a straightforward tram ride or a roughly half-hour walk, and the Northern Quarter is close enough for food and drinks afterwards.

  • Beside Manchester Piccadilly, so it works particularly well for supporters arriving by train.
  • Simple onward trip to the Etihad by Metrolink, taxi or on foot.
The match journey

Approximately 1.4 miles as a location reference; recent football-visitor feedback puts the walk at about 25 minutes, while route planners are closer to 30–32 minutes. Metrolink from Piccadilly is the easier default for many supporters.

The trade-off

It is not the closest hotel to the Etihad; allow roughly 25–32 minutes if walking, depending on route and crowd conditions.

WHY STAY HERE?

Motel One Manchester-Piccadilly

Piccadilly / city-centre east

Our view

This is the hotel we would put first for the typical Manchester City overnight trip. It is beside Piccadilly rather than beside the stadium, which is a feature rather than a flaw for most travelling supporters: arrival is easy, the Etihad is a straightforward tram ride or a roughly half-hour walk, and the Northern Quarter is close enough for food and drinks afterwards. The very large current review base is consistently strong, so it carries less editorial risk than a newer or more variable property.

Why it suits this trip

  • Beside Manchester Piccadilly, so it works particularly well for supporters arriving by train.
  • Simple onward trip to the Etihad by Metrolink, taxi or on foot.
  • Close enough to the Northern Quarter to have a proper choice of pubs, bars and food after the match.
  • Large, current review base with recurring praise for cleanliness, staff and location.
  • Non-event pricing is often materially lower than the stadium hotel or boutique Northern Quarter options.

Getting to the ground

Approximately 1.4 miles as a location reference; recent football-visitor feedback puts the walk at about 25 minutes, while route planners are closer to 30–32 minutes. Metrolink from Piccadilly is the easier default for many supporters.

Pubs and the evening

Not inside the Northern Quarter proper, but close enough to walk to its bars, pubs and restaurants without making nightlife the whole basis of the hotel choice.

Arriving by train

The key strength: the hotel is directly by/opposite the station, making it the easiest of the three primary choices for rail arrivals.

The trade-offs

  • It is not the closest hotel to the Etihad; allow roughly 25–32 minutes if walking, depending on route and crowd conditions.
  • Standard rooms are compact and functional rather than spacious.
  • Breakfast is primarily continental rather than a full cooked-hotel breakfast.
  • Some guests mention city/tram noise and the rooms are deliberately light on extras such as mini-fridges.

Research price context

Typically about £85 midweek. The sampled weekend average was about £110, but Manchester is volatile: a quiet Sunday fell to £60 while sampled Saturdays were £135.

Radisson Blu Medlock Hotel, Manchester

Etihad Campus / Medlock Square

If the priority is getting out of the Etihad and into the hotel with the minimum possible fuss, this is now the obvious choice. It opened on the Etihad Campus in September 2026, immediately beside the stadium and Co-op Live, so it removes the usual post-match tram, taxi or long walk back into town.

  • Genuinely on the Etihad Campus rather than merely marketed as 'near the stadium'.
  • Around a few minutes on foot from the Etihad, making it the easiest hotel after a late finish or poor weather.
The match journey

The hotel is on the Etihad Campus at Medlock Square, adjacent to the stadium and Co-op Live. This is the only primary choice that is effectively a stadium-doorstep stay.

Normal sampled rates are higher than Motel One and can climb sharply on busy weekends or event nights.

Our view

If the priority is getting out of the Etihad and into the hotel with the minimum possible fuss, this is now the obvious choice. It opened on the Etihad Campus in September 2026, immediately beside the stadium and Co-op Live, so it removes the usual post-match tram, taxi or long walk back into town. The trade is price and atmosphere: you are paying for event-campus convenience, and the Northern Quarter is still where the denser after-match pub and food choice sits.

Why it suits this trip

  • Genuinely on the Etihad Campus rather than merely marketed as 'near the stadium'.
  • Around a few minutes on foot from the Etihad, making it the easiest hotel after a late finish or poor weather.
  • Modern full-service four-star property with restaurant, bar and fitness facilities.
  • Direct Metrolink connection keeps the city centre reachable without needing a taxi.
  • Particularly useful for supporters with mobility concerns or anyone prioritising the shortest post-match return.

Getting to the ground

The hotel is on the Etihad Campus at Medlock Square, adjacent to the stadium and Co-op Live. This is the only primary choice that is effectively a stadium-doorstep stay.

Pubs and the evening

There are onsite/event-campus food and drink options, but supporters wanting a broader pub/bar night will still usually head back towards Piccadilly, Ancoats or the Northern Quarter.

Arriving by train

Not a mainline-station hotel. Use Metrolink between Piccadilly and Etihad Campus; the hotel is designed around that campus connection.

The trade-offs

  • Normal sampled rates are higher than Motel One and can climb sharply on busy weekends or event nights.
  • The immediate area is an entertainment campus, not Manchester's best-established nightlife district.
  • The hotel only opened on 7 September 2026, so it does not yet have the long operating track record of the other primary choices.
  • Early reviews repeatedly mention awkward parking/site access and continuing works around the new development; one recent review also reported intrusive HVAC/ventilation noise.

Research price context

Typically around £130 midweek in the sample, rising to roughly £175 at weekends. The range is wide because the hotel sits inside an event campus and responds strongly to football and arena demand.

The Cow Hollow Hotel

The Cow Hollow Hotel

Northern Quarter

For a supporter who wants the match to turn into a proper Manchester night out, Cow Hollow has the best address of the three primaries. It is a tiny boutique hotel on Newton Street in the Northern Quarter, so bars, pubs, restaurants and late food are outside rather than a tram ride away.

  • Right in the Northern Quarter, with a dense choice of independent bars, pubs and food around the hotel.
  • Boutique character rather than a generic chain stay.
The match journey

Roughly 1.3 miles as an area/location reference; the actual walking route is longer than straight-line distance, so allow around half an hour or use Metrolink from the Piccadilly side of the centre.

The trade-off

Only 16 bedrooms, so availability can disappear quickly on football, arena and busy city weekends.

WHY STAY HERE?

The Cow Hollow Hotel

Northern Quarter

Our view

For a supporter who wants the match to turn into a proper Manchester night out, Cow Hollow has the best address of the three primaries. It is a tiny boutique hotel on Newton Street in the Northern Quarter, so bars, pubs, restaurants and late food are outside rather than a tram ride away. That also explains the compromises: only 16 rooms, potentially noisy streets, smaller room categories and sharp price swings when the city is busy.

Why it suits this trip

  • Right in the Northern Quarter, with a dense choice of independent bars, pubs and food around the hotel.
  • Boutique character rather than a generic chain stay.
  • Strong current guest scores for staff, location, comfort and cleanliness.
  • Still reasonably close to Piccadilly for rail arrivals and the tram/walk to the Etihad.
  • Official direct pricing gives a useful sense of positioning: standard rooms from £99 and weekends from around £149 before event-driven spikes.

Getting to the ground

Roughly 1.3 miles as an area/location reference; the actual walking route is longer than straight-line distance, so allow around half an hour or use Metrolink from the Piccadilly side of the centre.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel is on Newton Street in the Northern Quarter, with independent bars, pubs, restaurants and late-night options immediately around it.

Arriving by train

A short city-centre walk rather than station-doorstep convenience. Still practical for train arrivals and for reaching the Etihad via the Piccadilly Metrolink corridor.

The trade-offs

  • Only 16 bedrooms, so availability can disappear quickly on football, arena and busy city weekends.
  • Some room categories are small and can feel dark compared with larger chain rooms.
  • The Northern Quarter is lively late into the night; street noise is a real possibility for light sleepers.
  • Recent negative reviews include isolated plumbing/shower, Wi-Fi, lift/service and heat-related complaints; these are not the dominant review pattern but should not be ignored.

Research price context

Typically around £125 midweek in the sample and about £150 at weekends, but limited 16-room inventory makes busy dates volatile. The official hotel site itself advertises weekends from around £149, while sampled busy Fridays reached above £200.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Etihad Stadium

The ground

Brighton & Hove Albion at Manchester City

It is a large, continually developing modern ground rather than an old terrace maze. Its character therefore depends heavily on what supporters put into it: singing areas, safe standing, displays, the Poznań and the deliberate heritage outside. The 2026 North Stand expansion is an attempt to increase capacity while also improving the concentrated home atmosphere.

Recorded capacity
55,017

Views from the away section

Away sightlines are generally unobstructed.

Why the ground matters

The Etihad is sometimes treated as proof that City began again in the 2000s, but its identity is more interesting than that. The move returned the club towards east Manchester, tied it into the city's Commonwealth Games legacy and regeneration strategy, and eventually surrounded a modern stadium with visible references to both the Maine Road generation and the Guardiola-era club.

Expanded North Stand

Fully opened in 2026 with safe-standing and enhanced singing areas among the most identity-relevant changes; current details should be treated as live rather than timeless.

Former Colin Bell Stand naming

Supporters voted in 2004 to honour the 'King of the Kippax', carrying a Maine Road-era hero into the new stadium's geography.

Medlock Square

New public realm named for the River Medlock, giving a modern development a specific local-geography reference rather than a generic entertainment-district label.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Etihad Stadium

Atmosphere & acoustics

Brighton & Hove Albion at Manchester City

Home support adjacent to parts of the away section can produce lively interaction; intensity varies by fixture.

Blue Moon

The club anthem from around 1989-90 onwards. Its melancholy tone and the 'once in a blue moon' joke fit a support that adopted it before the era of routine trophies.

We're Not Really Here

Club folklore

A chant with disputed origins whose emotional force is tied to City's lower-league wandering and characteristic self-mockery.

Feed the Goat

Shaun Goater chant that turned a hard-working promotion-era striker into one of the club's clearest cult heroes.

Kinkladze / Wonderwall chant

A distinctly 1990s supporter-made chant, with its creator recalling flyers being handed out to get the words around the crowd.

The Poznań

Supporters turn away from the pitch, link shoulders and bounce; borrowed from Lech Poznań's away support in 2010 and then absorbed into City's own repertoire.

Inflatables

Not an every-game modern ritual, but still a visual symbol of the late-1980s support and its refusal to take either itself or a bad season too seriously.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Etihad Stadium

Food & drink

Brighton & Hove Albion at Manchester City

Manchester City is an away day to organise from Piccadilly rather than from the stadium gates. Rail arrivals should meet around Piccadilly: the Tap is literally outside the station, the Waldorf nearby, or carry on along the Citylink route to New Islington and Cask. City’s signed route is roughly 30 minutes on foot; the tram to Etihad Campus is under 10 minutes from Piccadilly. Visiting supporters enter the South Stand through L1–L3.

Food and drink around the ground

The pubs closest to the ground are heavily City: Mary D’s is not an away option, and reports on the Townley conflict, so do not build the day around getting in there or wearing colours. Food is much better covered. This & That does quick rice-and-three, Koffee Pot works for breakfast, Bundobust is a strong Piccadilly meal, and Northern Soul trades outside the East Stand every home match.

On campus, Blend and Three Rivers add useful pre-match food, while the away concourse has current 2026/27 stadium catering. Derby and other high-risk fixtures can tighten access; check the visiting club’s final advice.

Mary D's Beamish Bar

Mary D's remains one of the clearest Manchester City matchday institutions close to the Etihad. The club itself describes it as a long-established City pub with a lively matchday atmosphere, while current 2026 football guidance treats it as a home-supporter venue rather than a dependable stop for visiting fans.

  • Manchester City home supporters
  • visitors specifically wanting a City-heavy pre-match atmosphere

Do not plan this as an away pub. Current guidance says away supporters should avoid it and notes that match tickets may be checked at the door; no separate current colours policy was found.

Piccadilly Tap

Piccadilly Tap is one of the strongest practical rail-arrival options: it is directly by Manchester Piccadilly, is currently open, serves pizza, and is named in current away-oriented guidance as a neutral city-centre option for Etihad visitors. Its location also fits the broader pattern of away supporters drinking centrally before heading to the ground.

Where it is
8 Gateway House, Piccadilly Station Approach, Manchester M1 2GH
Away access

  • supporters arriving at Manchester Piccadilly
  • away fans preferring a city-centre pint before travelling to the Etihad
  • beer choice with simple food

No venue-published football admission or colours policy was found. Current city-centre away guidance is positive, but colours should still be treated as a check-on-the-day issue for high-risk fixtures.

The Waldorf

The Waldorf is a current city-centre pub close to Piccadilly with full food service, a kids menu and live-sport positioning. It is also named in current Etihad away guidance as a neutral option, making it a stronger away-day lead than the pubs immediately around the stadium.

Where it is
12 Gore Street, Manchester M1 3AQ
Away access
Usually accepts away supporters
  • rail arrivals wanting a conventional pub
  • away supporters staying in the city centre
  • groups wanting pub food before heading to the Etihad

There is no published venue-specific away-colours policy. Treat colours as a check issue because visiting-supporter guidance warns that some Manchester city-centre pubs may ask fans to cover them.

Cask

Cask is a strong adult-only Ancoats/New Islington option: the venue is current, has a substantial beer range and simple bar snacks, and a recent 2026 Etihad away guide describes it as relaxed and mixed, with away colours not an issue. It fits the broader pattern of using Ancoats/New Islington rather than relying on near-ground City pubs.

Colours accepted
  • adult away supporters wanting a calmer pre-match drink
  • craft-beer drinkers

Cask explicitly does not admit under-18s, including babies, so it is not a family option. Its away-friendly signal comes from a current independent guide rather than a published venue football policy.

Blue Carpet Experience - West Reception Atrium

With the rebuilt City Square still awaiting its late-2026 opening, the Blue Carpet Experience is the clearest currently documented club-run pre-match activity. Etihad Stadium - general admission food and drink

Manchester City has published a refreshed 2026/27 stadium menu with pies, hot dogs, burgers, fries, a chicken spice bag, a vegan burger and junior options. This is the most dependable food fallback once supporters are inside the Etihad, especially when a group does not want to rely on external pubs or the still-changing fan-zone construction.

Provide your registration in advance so the booking can be recognised at the barrier. Level 0 visiting wheelchair users enter by the flat, accessible L1 entrance.

Accessible journeys

Those booked on the Legends Balcony use Entrance H, with stewards directing them to the correct level. Manchester City lists nine Level 0 and sixteen balcony wheelchair places for Premier League visiting allocations, but cup arrangements can differ. Accessible toilets use RADAR keys, and a Changing Places facility is available in the South Stand by arrangement. Audio-descriptive commentary is provided through the club app.

For medical exemptions or lift assistance, contact Manchester City’s Access Team well before matchday; check your onward tram stop for any temporary accessibility issues.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Etihad Stadium

Before the match

Brighton & Hove Albion at Manchester City

Use Manchester Piccadilly for long-distance trains, then change onto Metrolink for Etihad Campus. Trams take around 10 minutes from the city centre and stop beside the ground. The onward walk around the stadium to your South Stand entrance takes longer than the short distance to the stadium perimeter. Ashburys is the nearest conventional railway station, around 20 minutes on foot from the Etihad.

Where it is
13 Grey Mare Lane, Beswick, Manchester M11 3DQ

Not recommended for away supporters
Football colours

  • Manchester City home supporters
  • visitors specifically wanting a City-heavy pre-match atmosphere

Do not plan this as an away pub. Current guidance says away supporters should avoid it and notes that match tickets may be checked at the door; no separate current colours policy was found.

Do not rely on entry in colours.

Away access
Usually accepts away supporters

Where it is
2 New Union Street, Cotton Field Wharf, New Islington Marina, Manchester M4 6FQ
Away access

Football colours
Colours accepted
  • adult away supporters wanting a calmer pre-match drink
  • craft-beer drinkers
  • supporters using Ancoats or New Islington before the match

Cask explicitly does not admit under-18s, including babies, so it is not a family option. Its away-friendly signal comes from a current independent guide rather than a published venue football policy.

Blue Carpet Experience - West Reception Atrium

With the rebuilt City Square still awaiting its late-2026 opening, the Blue Carpet Experience is the clearest currently documented club-run pre-match activity. Manchester City describes it as a free family-friendly event at the West Reception atrium, with live entertainment, music, catering and the team-bus arrival forming the main build-up.

Away-fan admission and away-colours rules are not explicitly stated on the current club pages, so do not present this as an away fanzone without a fixture-specific check.

Piccadilly Tap

The cleanest rail-arrival rendezvous: walk out of Piccadilly and you are there, with a serious beer range and the Citylink route starting from the station. Current away guidance names it among the central options used by visitors.

Rail, Underground & tram

It is reached by a short local train journey from Piccadilly, but its services may not suit your return. Manchester Victoria also connects to the Metrolink network, so check the best change before travelling. For an alternative that avoids waiting for a crowded tram, use the signed Citylink walk from Piccadilly through New Islington and Holt Town. Allow about 30 minutes to the stadium, plus time for the away turnstiles.

Check Metrolink engineering works before relying on the same route home.

Head for South Stand entrances L1, L2 or L3, which Manchester City designates for visiting supporters. If arriving at Etihad Campus tram stop, follow the stadium signs around to the away side rather than joining the first queue you see. Your ticket gives the final entrance and seating level. The Grey Car Park stands opposite the away turnstiles and is also the visiting-coach area.

Pre-arranged ticket collections are handled at the South Stand Ticket Office from two hours before kick-off, with photo ID required. Tickets must be arranged through your club beforehand. The club opens turnstiles two hours before kick-off and advises visitors to arrive at least one hour before the match. Security checks can take time, particularly for large away allocations. The club only accepts small bags no larger than A4 dimensions, so travel light.

Buses & local travel

Use Metrolink to Etihad Campus for the simplest journey from central Manchester. The stop is next to the stadium, but expect managed queues after full-time. Buy a suitable ticket or use contactless, and check the platform direction before joining the return queue. Manchester City also operates 18 matchday bus routes with 91 stops across Greater Manchester for 2026/27.

The MC1, MC2 and MC6 serve Co-op Academy Belle Vue Park & Ride, with return departures from their advertised pick-up points. Normal bus routes are separate and can change around road closures. For the city centre after the match, the club operates dedicated shuttle buses from Ashton New Road. They may be held until the road reopens, usually estimated at about 25 minutes after full-time.

Check the live club and Bee Network notices, particularly when Metrolink works alter normal connections.

Parking

Brighton & Hove Albion at Manchester City

Book parking to drive right to the Etihad. We cannot recommend a confirmed free street within an easy matchday walk of the away entrance. Eastlands permit controls operate daily, and short-stay visitor bays cannot cover a football match. Official car parks cost £12 for a shared car or £14 for a solo driver. Book ahead and use the correct postcode for Blue, Orange, Green or Vermillion. They open three hours before kick-off.

Parking & park-and-ride

Your booking guarantees a space, not a numbered bay; expect possible exit queues. For free parking, use Ashton Moss on Alexandria Drive (OL6 7UB) or Ashton West on Lord Sheldon Way (OL7 0PG). Both are free for paying Metrolink passengers, normally open 5am–1am and prohibit overnight parking. Buy a tram ticket and check return services. Co-op Academy Belle Vue also offers pre-booked Park & Ride, with MC1, MC2 and MC6 buses included for car occupants.

It costs £12 shared or £14 solo, so is not cheaper than club parking. It closes one hour after full-time; late cars can be locked in. Do not use supermarkets, retail parks or permit bays without clear permission. Allow four to five hours for the visit, including security, the match and walking. The council’s 90-minute visitor bays are unsuitable, and no supermarket football-parking permission was confirmed.

Aim to park 75–90 minutes before kick-off, especially on busy event days. If club parking has sold out, use Metrolink Park & Ride rather than circle Eastlands streets. Check engineering works and allow for post-match queues.

The Eastlands residents’ scheme covers a large area around Ashton New Road, Alan Turing Way and neighbouring streets.

It operates from midday until 11pm every day. Double yellow lines remain prohibited and short-stay visitor bays are not a matchday substitute. The club also reports a northbound closure on Alan Turing Way between Ashton Old Road and Ashton New Road.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Etihad Stadium

Worth knowing

Brighton & Hove Albion at Manchester City

An away or neutral visitor gets more from the Etihad by treating it as the latest layer of a club with several very different lives. The polished campus is real, but so are the songs and jokes inherited from a club that played third-tier football within living memory. The most revealing details are the ones where those worlds touch.

Matchday features

Cable-supported roof. Three-tier away geometry. Modern campus setting

Travel reminders

Holt Town and Velopark can be unavailable after major stadium events; check the live matchday notice.

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

A detail worth noticing

Do not look only for Agüero. The placement of Bell, Lee and Summerbee alongside the modern statues is the club making an argument that history did not start with the takeover.

The three rivers on the badge are not decorative filler; the Medlock now also names a major space on the campus.

As of 2026, supporter representatives were specifically praising safe standing and singing sections. This is one of the best current tests of whether the expansion changes atmosphere rather than just capacity.

Supporter interpretation

Most of the old-ground identity has to travel through people, songs, names and stories rather than surviving architecture at the Etihad. That makes the memorials and inherited supporter language unusually important.

The club left an 80-year home in Moss Side for the converted Commonwealth Games stadium in 2003. That was a rupture in match-going habit but also a geographical return towards City's earliest east-Manchester world.

The Bell-Lee-Summerbee monument and the Kompany-Silva-Agüero statues deliberately stop the present from erasing the late-1960s generation.

The old roots and the current campus belong to different economic Manchesters: one built around heavy industry, the other around sports-led regeneration after deindustrialisation.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Supporter insights combine the site's existing official guidance, supporter-oriented research and fixture checks.

Coaches

Away coaches

Visiting supporters travelling on organised coaches should use the Grey Car Park opposite the South Stand away entrances. The club identifies this as the parking area for visiting coaches and minibuses. Your coach organiser should arrange access and the precise approach with the club before setting off.

Follow your organiser’s collection instructions after the game rather than assuming the vehicle can move immediately. The club’s 2026/27 road arrangements restrict unauthorised stopping on Ashton New Road and can delay vehicles within the security closure. Check your coach company’s meeting point if police or stewards redirect pedestrians.

Buses

Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Arrange away wheelchair tickets, easy-access seating or Blue Badge parking through your own club’s Disability Liaison Officer when buying tickets. Manchester City allocates visiting supporters spaces in the Grey Car Park off Ashton New Road, accessed by Gate 7. Provide your registration in advance so the booking can be recognised at the barrier.

Level 0 visiting wheelchair users enter by the flat, accessible L1 entrance.

After the match

After the match

For the city centre, join the managed queue at Etihad Campus Metrolink or walk back towards Piccadilly using the signed Citylink route. The walk takes around 30 minutes without heavy crowd delays, while the tram queue can extend your journey. Leave a sensible buffer before booking your last train.

The club’s 2026/27 arrangements mean city-centre shuttle buses on Ashton New Road may be held until the road reopens, around 25 minutes after full-time. Holt Town, Velopark and some nearby tram stops can be closed temporarily for crowd management. Use Etihad Campus unless the live instructions tell you otherwise.

Drivers leaving stadium car parks should allow for queues and steward-controlled traffic movements. Belle Vue Park & Ride has a strict one-hour-after-full-time closing time, so head straight back to the buses and do not linger. Visiting supporters may be held briefly in the South Stand to allow crowds outside to clear.

Where to stay

Stay around Manchester Piccadilly for the easiest overall football trip. You can arrive by inter-city train, take a short tram ride to Etihad Campus and walk to restaurants and pubs afterwards. The Northern Quarter is close enough to make a second evening journey unnecessary.

If food, independent bars and nightlife matter most, look around Stevenson Square, Tib Street and the Northern Quarter. You are slightly farther from the tram connection than a hotel next to Piccadilly but much closer to the best evening choice. Check city events as well as the fixture when comparing prices.

For the shortest possible walk back after the match, the new Radisson Blu Medlock Hotel opened on the Etihad Campus in September 2026. It is beside the stadium and Co-op Live, so it suits an early start or late fixture. It is less useful if you want to spend the evening in central Manchester.

PUB / BAR

The Waldorf

12 Gore Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester M1 3AQ
30 min walkUsually away-friendlyFamily friendlyFood availableColours: check
BEST FORgroups · pub meal · train arrivals · watching football
MATCHDAY INTELA conventional pub near Piccadilly if the group wants food, screens and a table before heading east. Its own site explicitly says football bookings can be for home or away fans, stronger evidence than most city-centre options.
WORTH KNOWINGAway colours are not addressed by the venue. For a big televised fixture, booking is sensible and city-centre doors can still tighten.
PUB / BAR

Piccadilly Tap

8 Gateway House, Piccadilly Station Approach, Manchester M1 2GH
Usually away-friendlyFamily: checkFood availableColours: check
BEST FORsupporters arriving at Manchester Piccadilly · away fans preferring a city-centre pint before travelling to the Etihad · beer choice with simple food
MATCHDAY INTELPiccadilly Tap is one of the strongest practical rail-arrival options: it is directly by Manchester Piccadilly, is currently open, serves pizza, and is named in current away-oriented guidance as a neutral city-centre option for Etihad visitors. Its location also fits the broader pattern of away supporters drinking centrally before heading to the ground.
WORTH KNOWINGNo venue-published football admission or colours policy was found. Current city-centre away guidance is positive, but colours should still be treated as a check-on-the-day issue for high-risk fixtures.
PUB / BAR

The Waldorf

12 Gore Street, Manchester M1 3AQ
Usually away-friendlyFamily: checkFood availableColours: check
BEST FORrail arrivals wanting a conventional pub · away supporters staying in the city centre · groups wanting pub food before heading to the Etihad
MATCHDAY INTELThe Waldorf is a current city-centre pub close to Piccadilly with full food service, a kids menu and live-sport positioning. It is also named in current Etihad away guidance as a neutral option, making it a stronger away-day lead than the pubs immediately around the stadium.
WORTH KNOWINGThere is no published venue-specific away-colours policy. Treat colours as a check issue because visiting-supporter guidance warns that some Manchester city-centre pubs may ask fans to cover them.
PUB / BAR

Cask

2 New Union Street, Cotton Field Wharf, New Islington Marina, Manchester M4 6FQ
Usually away-friendlyLimited foodAway colours OK
BEST FORadult away supporters wanting a calmer pre-match drink · craft-beer drinkers · supporters using Ancoats or New Islington before the match
MATCHDAY INTELCask is a strong adult-only Ancoats/New Islington option: the venue is current, has a substantial beer range and simple bar snacks, and a recent 2026 Etihad away guide describes it as relaxed and mixed, with away colours not an issue. It fits the broader pattern of using Ancoats/New Islington rather than relying on near-ground City pubs.
WORTH KNOWINGCask explicitly does not admit under-18s, including babies, so it is not a family option. Its away-friendly signal comes from a current independent guide rather than a published venue football policy.
PUB / BAR

The Townley

31 Albert Street, Beswick, Manchester M11 3QW
Away access: fixture dependent
BEST FORonly if fixture-specific away entry is confirmed
MATCHDAY INTELThe nearest plausible traditional pub, but not a dependable away pub.
WORTH KNOWINGDo not rely on entry in colours.

BEST FORtrain arrivals · meeting point · pre-match beer
MATCHDAY INTELThe cleanest rail-arrival rendezvous: walk out of Piccadilly and you are there, with a serious beer range and the Citylink route starting from the station. Current away guidance names it among the central options used by visitors.
WORTH KNOWINGNo published football door or colours policy. City-centre guidance is positive, but some pubs may still ask away supporters to cover colours.
PUB / BAR

Cask

2 New Union Street, New Islington Marina, Manchester M4 6FQ
Away access: check
BEST FORbeer choice · New Islington stop · adult groups
MATCHDAY INTELA better halfway pint than gambling on Beswick: canal-side New Islington, with a deep beer list and simple pork pies and rolls. A current away guide reports a mixed crowd and no issue with away colours.
WORTH KNOWINGStrictly 18+, including babies. One guide claims a 10-minute walk to Etihad Campus; that timing was not independently corroborated, so allow more.
PUB / BAR

Mary D's Beamish Bar

13 Grey Mare Lane, Beswick, Manchester M11 3DQ
Not for away fans
BEST FORManchester City home supporters · visitors specifically wanting a City-heavy pre-match atmosphere
MATCHDAY INTELMary D's remains one of the clearest Manchester City matchday institutions close to the Etihad. The club itself describes it as a long-established City pub with a lively matchday atmosphere, while current 2026 football guidance treats it as a home-supporter venue rather than a dependable stop for visiting fans.
WORTH KNOWINGDo not plan this as an away pub. Current guidance says away supporters should avoid it and notes that match tickets may be checked at the door; no separate current colours policy was found.

Manchester City has published a refreshed 2026/27 stadium menu with pies, hot dogs, burgers, fries, a chicken spice bag, a vegan burger and junior options.
