Blackpool

Tangerine shirts, Bloomfield Road and the 1953 cup winners are familiar Blackpool landmarks; the boycott, Homecoming and repeated play-off dramas matter just as much to recent supporters.

What this club is really about

Blackpool's seaside setting and tangerine shirts are unmistakable. Bloomfield Road sits close to the resort centre, carries the names of Matthews, Mortensen and Armfield, and links the club's civic badge to the town around it. Recent supporters also remember years when thousands stayed away: organised fans saw ticket and merchandise spending as support for the Oyston ownership they opposed. Their return for the 2019 Homecoming became as significant a memory as many promotions. Matthews, Mortensen, Armfield and Ball remain part of the club's older football inheritance.

Why that identity still matters

The boycott left supporters alert to the conduct of owners. Blackpool Supporters' Trust remains an independent democratic organisation, and volunteers helped repair neglected areas of Bloomfield Road after the Homecoming. The ground continues to change, with rail seating, tangerine-and-white paintwork, statues, memorials and a Matthews mural keeping club history visible alongside new facilities.
