Where to eat for York City: Monks Cross or the city centre
Start with where you want to eat, then check the full food, service and access notes below. A food recommendation does not guarantee pub admission, space or service for your fixture.
These are near-ground meal options. Compare their food and service notes without assuming that a restaurant has the same football admission policy as a designated away pub.
Pub food
Pear Tree Farm
12 min walk
Good for supporters wanting a proper meal reasonably close to the stadium · families and mixed-age groups
Pear Tree Farm is the strongest traditional pub-and-food lead close to the stadium. A visiting-club guide from April 2026 says it is frequently used by away fans for food and a pint, while its current official page confirms a full food offer, family facilities and daily opening.
Expect near-ground pub-restaurant · family friendly · carvery and pub food
Before you go A York supporter reported it as the 'official' pre-match place for one August 2026 fixture, but that appears fixture-specific and should not be treated as a standing designation. No current football-colours policy was found.
Monks Cross Drive, Huntington, York, North Yorkshire, YO32 9GZ
Good for supporters wanting a proper sit-down meal near the stadium · mixed groups who prioritise food over a football-pub atmosphere
Vallado Lounge is a practical near-ground food option in Vangarde Leisure Park. York City's current visiting-supporter page points visitors towards it, and Vallado's own current site confirms all-day opening, walk-ins and a broad food-and-drink menu.
Before you go No reliable current source was found stating whether football colours or away groups are accepted on York City matchdays, so it should be treated as a food lead rather than a verified away pub.
A city-centre meal leaves an onward journey to the stadium. Read The Hop's dress-code, admission and family notes before choosing it as your city-centre stop.
Pub food
The Hop York
Good for supporters wanting beer and a proper pre-match meal in the city centre · families earlier in the day
The Hop is one of the more useful city-centre combinations of pub and food: real ale plus stone-baked pizza. A 2026 York supporter interviewed for a Sunderland fan site specifically recommended it to travelling Sunderland fans, and the venue's own current rules make the key caveat explicit: no sportswear or football colours.
Before you go Do not arrive in football colours: the official venue page says its smart-casual dress code excludes sportswear and football colours. Supervised children are welcome until 8pm according to the brewery's official venue page.
Choose a base for the football and the rest of your visit.
Where to stay
Stay in central York if you want somewhere to eat and drink after the match. Fossgate and Walmgate have plenty of independent places, while the station area is handier for an early train. From either base, use service 9 or make your way to Stonebow for the Y22 football shuttle. A Malton Road hotel such as Holiday Inn Express York is a different choice: useful if you are driving and want to stay closer to Monks Cross, but less convenient for an evening in the centre. Its free parking is specifically for hotel guests, not a general matchday car park. Check your onward route before choosing it solely for ground proximity.
For the best overall overnight, base yourself around Piccadilly/Fossgate/Walmgate: you can walk to the main food-and-drink streets and use the city-centre-to-Monks-Cross bus pattern or the Stonebow matchday shuttle. Choose Malton Road only when being able to walk back from the ground matters more than the evening. If an early train is the priority, the station-side west of the centre becomes more attractive.
For the evening
Fossgate and Walmgate are the most useful football-weekend cluster in this research: independent food and pubs, The Hop on Fossgate and Brew York just off Walmgate, while still being within the wider historic centre.
For the train
York Station is on the west side of the centre. Service 9 links the station/city with Monks Cross; for a city-centre hotel east of the river, allow roughly 15-20 minutes to walk from the station or use a short taxi/bus with luggage.

City-centre location puts Fossgate, Walmgate, Shambles-area food and pubs within an easy walk.
Bear in mind: It is not close enough to the stadium to treat walking as the normal match journey; use bus/shuttle or taxi.

Free hot breakfast is included, improving value and convenience for a one-night football trip.
Large current Booking.com review base (8.5 from 11,849 reviews in the research check) gives more confidence than a small-sample boutique option.
Recent Tripadvisor feedback repeatedly highlights clean, modern rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast and a quiet stay.
The city-centre-to-Monks-Cross transport pattern is practical: Service 9 links the centre/station with Monks Cross, while the Y22 matchday shuttle runs from Stonebow.
York Station is roughly a 16-18 minute walk, so the Toft Green Hampton is better if station proximity alone is the priority.
Self-parking is off-site at Q-Park and currently listed at £22 per day by Hilton.
Sampled Saturday prices were roughly £211-£310, so this can cease to be a value choice on busy weekends.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF
Put your trip together
01 · Arrive
Your route into LNER Community Stadium
Go to LNER Community Stadium on Kathryn Avenue at Monks Cross, not York City's former Bootham Crescent ground. From the Monks Cross bus stop and car park, follow the signed pedestrian approach towards the stadium and leave enough time to walk around to your stand. The away allocation can be in the North Stand or West Stand blocks WH and WI, with other West Stand blocks sometimes opened. Check the block and entrance printed on your ticket rather than assuming every visitor uses one gate. The club recommends buying your ticket before travelling.
