Use Reading Green Park station if your train connection suits it. The station is on the Reading–Basingstoke line, around a 15-minute walk from the stadium, and is the closest railway stop.
Plan a stay at Reading ↗Go to the South Stand if your away ticket lists blocks R30–R32. Gate 10 is the usual entrance, including accessible entry. Larger allocations can extend into the Upper West Stand, where visiting supporters are directed to Gate 11; follow the gate printed on your ticket rather than the nearest visible turnstile. From Reading Green Park station, take the signed pedestrian route towards the stadium and allow roughly 15 minutes before walking round to your allocated gate. From the F1 or F3 football bus stops, follow the stewarded pedestrian approaches around the stadium. Do not cut across private business car parks to save a few minutes. The ground is beside the A33, not in the town-centre streets around Reading station. Arrive with time to find the correct side of the stadium, especially when both away areas are in use or queues build at the turnstiles.
Reading Football Club Visiting Supporters’ Guide 2024/25 ↗If you need to catch a train, aim first for the Reading Green Park connection or the F1 return bus, then allow time for your onward service from Reading. Use the current bus operator’s departure information rather than assuming the last departure printed in an older club guide still applies. Drivers using the stadium’s own car parks should expect a slow start. Reading has previously held vehicles back for roughly 20 minutes to let pedestrians and buses clear, with further congestion around the A33. A parking spot closest to the stadium entrance is not necessarily the quickest way home. Green Park Station parking means a short walk back to your car without joining the car park queues immediately beside the ground. Mereoak is more straightforward if you are heading south on the M4 corridor, but queues for the F3 bus can offset that advantage after a busy game.
Reading FC visiting-supporter information and coach arrangements (historical) ↗Stay near Reading station or in the town centre if you want a straightforward overnight away trip. You will have rail connections, a better selection of pubs and restaurants, and the F1 matchday bus to the stadium without needing to keep a car near the ground.

Compare the stay areas →Use Reading Green Park station if your train connection suits it. The station is on the Reading–Basingstoke line, around a 15-minute walk from the stadium, and is the closest railway stop. Allow a little longer to reach the South Stand away turnstiles, particularly with children or reduced mobility.
For most longer-distance journeys, Reading main station will be simpler. Either change onto a Reading–Basingstoke service for Green Park or use the dedicated F1 matchday bus from the station area. The bus avoids a lengthy walk along the A33 corridor, but queues after full-time are possible.
Both Reading and Reading Green Park stations have step-free access to all platforms and lifts. Check your last train carefully for evening and cup games; the short Green Park connection does not remove the need to connect back onto your onward route.

Catch the F1 football shuttle from Reading station for the simplest bus journey to the ground. Reading Buses lists a £6 adult return for 2026/27, and football tickets must be bought separately from ordinary bus tickets. The service normally runs before and after league fixtures, but check your specific kick-off.
If you are parking south of the M4, Mereoak Park & Ride uses the dedicated F3 football bus. A £7.50 adult return includes parking, and the group ticket is £11 for up to five passengers with no more than three adults. That can make it better value than five separate fares.
The ordinary Mereoak 600/650 routes and their £4 promotional returns are not the F3 matchday shuttle. For cup ties, check whether football specials are running at all; Reading cancelled them for at least one 2026 EFL Trophy fixture.
If you are travelling on an organised away coach, follow the coach organiser’s instructions rather than heading for a public car park. A previous Reading visiting-supporter guide describes free away-coach parking close to the ground, with additional coaches placed a short walk away when more vehicles attend.
The exact 2026/27 coach approach, drop-off and return meeting point could not be independently confirmed. Ask your travel organiser to obtain the current allocation from Reading FC and to tell you whether to return to the drop-off spot or a different pickup area.
Leave enough time after the match to reach the coach before departure. Car and coach movements can be managed around the stadium while spectators and football buses clear, so a coach parked close to the gate will not necessarily leave quickly.
Contact Reading FC before travelling if you need an accessible parking space or a specific route into the away section. The club’s accessibility statement identifies Gate 10 as the step-free visiting entrance and 15 away wheelchair positions in the South Stand. Ask your ticketing club to confirm the arrangements for your allocation.
Reading Green Park railway station has step-free access to both platforms, but the final journey to the stadium takes longer on the accessible walking route. The club lists limited pre-bookable accessible parking in its Orange area and says a Blue Badge holder must travel in the vehicle.
For parking prices and availability, use the Reading accessibility team rather than an older guide’s tariff. Call 0118 968 1313, option 2, or email disability@readingfc.co.uk. Reading FC has also described a limited Readibus-supported door-to-door service which must be arranged ahead of the fixture.

Stay near Reading station or in the town centre if you want a straightforward overnight away trip. You will have rail connections, a better selection of pubs and restaurants, and the F1 matchday bus to the stadium without needing to keep a car near the ground. If being close to the match is more important than nightlife, the stadium and Green Park corridor are convenient. Hotels such as voco Reading sit at the stadium, while Hilton Reading is farther up the A33. Check parking rights separately: a hotel booking does not automatically include permission to leave a car for the match. For an evening out, the station, Friar Street and Oracle Riverside areas make more sense than the stadium retail park. The journey back from the football is a separate consideration, so check F1 running times and rail connections before committing to a late return home.
Discover Reading: The Perfect Football Away Day Destination ↗For most rail-arriving supporters staying overnight, base yourself around Reading Station, Friar Street or the central shopping/nightlife streets and use the F1 matchday bus. If minimising matchday walking matters more than the evening, use the stadium/Green Park corridor. Hilton Reading is the strongest compromise between those two extremes.
Reading's late-night core is the town centre, especially Friar Street and Gun Street, with the Oracle Riverside adding a broad food-and-drink cluster. A central hotel is materially better if the post-match evening is part of the trip.
Reading Station is the main rail hub and the F1 matchday shuttle leaves from the station area. Reading Green Park is the nearest rail station to the stadium, with Visit Reading and away-supporter guidance putting the walk from there at about 15 minutes.
Approximately 1.1 km / 17 minutes on foot to Select Car Leasing Stadium in current mapping/travel listings, making it realistically walkable for most supporters.
Bear in mind: Not in the main Friar Street/Gun Street nightlife area; a bus or taxi is the practical choice for a bigger post-match evening.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-01Strong recent reputation: Tripadvisor 4.3/5 from 2,607 reviews in the live lookup, with recent September 2026 reviews repeatedly praising staff, cleanliness, comfort and leisure facilities.
Booking.com was verified in live searches and showed an 8.4/10 review score with more than 1,200 reviews.
Non-match weekend sample averaged about £86, which is good value for this quality level in Reading.
Indoor pool, sauna/steam and restaurant make it more useful for an overnight football trip than a basic roadside room.
Hilton currently charges for on-site self-parking, which weakens the value proposition for drivers.
The immediate setting is an urban/business corridor rather than a characterful football or nightlife district.
Directly adjacent to Select Car Leasing Stadium; IHG lists the stadium at around 0.15 miles.
Bear in mind: Weakest of the primary choices for pubs, bars and restaurants beyond the hotel itself.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-01The hotel explicitly caters to matchday visitors, including pre-match dining.
Booking.com profile was 8.7/10 with more than 1,600 reviews; recent cleanliness, comfort and staff scores are strong.
Recent Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly praise large rooms, beds, breakfast, staff and leisure facilities.
Best option for supporters with mobility concerns around a long post-match walk, subject to room availability.
No hotel local-area shuttle; town-centre nightlife needs public transport or a taxi.
Booking.com availability disappeared on all three sampled Reading home-match nights, so the hotel may be hard to secure precisely when football demand is highest.
One recent review specifically described bar prices as expensive.
On Friar Street, one of Reading's main late-night streets.
Bear in mind: Not a practical stadium walk for most supporters; use the F1 matchday bus or Reading Green Park rail connection.
Hotel details checked 2026-10-01Accor places Reading Station only a few minutes away, which is useful for both rail arrivals and the F1 matchday shuttle.
Pool, sauna and gym add useful four-star facilities for an overnight stay.
Recent Tripadvisor reviews strongly support the central location and friendly staff.
Non-match weekend sample sat tightly around the high-£80s, making it competitive with less central four-star hotels.
Nightlife/street noise is a recurring current review theme; request a quieter room if sleep is a priority.
On-site parking is limited, must be pre-booked, and Accor currently quotes £21 per night.
Booking.com overall score is a respectable rather than standout 7.9/10.
