BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into JobServe Community Stadium

Head for the North Stand if you are visiting with away supporters. Colchester United identifies it as the normal away section, although your own club's ticket instructions take priority if an unusually large allocation changes the arrangement. Follow the signed away route around the stadium rather than joining home turnstile queues. Walking from Colchester station, follow Mile End Road north, continue along Nayland Road and then Boxted Road towards the ground. From the Park & Ride side, use the pedestrian route beside McDonald's and cross the A12 on Boxted Road bridge. The club directs pedestrians onto the stadium site near United Way; there is no vehicle through-route from Boxted Road.

02 · Park and walk

Parking & park-and-ride

Book parking rather than banking on free street space near Colchester United. Visiting-club guidance describes a matchday exclusion area covering clearways and residential roads. We could not confirm a named, unrestricted street with a dependable matchday space. Avoid arriving late and circling housing estates looking for one. For the simplest visit, reserve the stadium car park through Colchester United before travelling. The club advertises almost 700 spaces at typically £7.50 and requires your registration number for its ANPR barrier. It is beside the ground, but supporters report slow exits. For a standard Saturday 3pm kick-off, Colchester Park & Ride on Cuckoo Farm Way (CO4 5JA) is the strongest cheaper alternative. The park-only tariff is £3 Monday to Saturday, and the walk crosses the A12 on Boxted Road bridge. Allow roughly 5–10 minutes to the stadium site and extra time to find the away entrance. Do not confuse it with the adjacent Northern Gateway sites. The leisure multi-storey charges £16.50 on football/event days. Its free retail bays outside Greggs and Wendy's allow only 90 minutes, while venue exemptions require genuine custom and validation. They are not free football parking. Allow at least four hours for a normal matchday visit, including arrival, the match, both walks and getting out. For a 3pm Saturday start, aim to be parked by about 1:30pm. Check Park & Ride closing times for late kick-offs, Sundays or bank holidays; its normal closing time is around 7:30pm and event extensions are not guaranteed. If the stadium car park sells out, use the Park & Ride only when your match fits its permitted hours. Otherwise check the Northern Gateway leisure multi-storey's paid matchday tariff or another confirmed authorised booking. The Sports Park has separate event pricing, so do not assume its normal rate applies.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay in central Colchester around High Street, North Hill or the city-centre streets if you want a proper evening out and a choice of places to eat. You will still need to travel north to the stadium, using the Park & Ride bus while it runs or a taxi.

Driving & road restrictions

Set your sat-nav to JobServe Community Stadium, United Way, Colchester CO4 5UP, and leave the A12 at Junction 28. Coming from the south, the club directs drivers over the junction bridge and through the roundabouts onto United Way. Coming from the north, use the junction roundabouts to reach the same entrance.

Only use United Way for vehicles: the connection to Boxted Road is blocked. The pedestrian route across Boxted Road bridge does not mean you can drive in that way. Follow temporary signs and matchday stewards, and check Essex Highways for current works or closures before setting off. Residential roads near the ground are not a reliable alternative to an authorised car park.

Parking verdict
Booking is advisable; do not rely on unverified free on-street parking near the stadium.
Legal restrictions — stadium surroundings
Visiting-club guidance identifies a matchday parking exclusion area covering existing clearways and nearby residential streets; exact section-by-section limits have not been independently mapped.
Legal restrictions — United Way / Boxted Road
No vehicle connection between United Way and Boxted Road; follow marked parking and travel restrictions.
Matchday availability — official stadium
Club lists almost 700 spaces and advises advance booking; sold-out fixtures have been reported.
Matchday availability — residential streets
Not verified: no up-to-date section-by-section legal evidence or recent dependable supply estimate.
Walk — stadium parking
Parking is on the stadium site, close to the turnstiles; exact away-gate time depends on allocated parking zone.
Walk — Colchester Park & Ride
Approximately 5–10 minutes to the stadium site by the designated Boxted Road bridge route; allow more to reach the away turnstile.
Arrive by — standard Saturday 3pm kick-off
Target approximately 1:30pm (planning recommendation, not a parking admission cut-off).
Paid fallback — official stadium parking
Typically £7.50 per car; pre-book via Col U ticketing and register number plate for ANPR access.
Paid fallback — Colchester Park & Ride
Cuckoo Farm Way CO4 5JA; MiPermit Park Only location 737944 costs £3 Monday to Saturday up to 19:00.
Paid fallback — Northern Gateway Leisure Park
Multi-storey Area A, MiPermit 737952; £16.50 football/event-day tariff from four hours before until two hours after event.
Paid fallback — Northern Gateway Sports Park
Sports Park MiPermit 737945: regular 8-hour price £3.30; special event price £16.50 and matchday tariffs/availability notified separately. Primarily sports-centre and club customers.
Booking recommendation
Advance purchase is needed for official stadium parking; Park & Ride is park-only pay-as-you-go and is not a reserved matchday place.
Park & Ride opening hours
Normal Monday–Friday 06:30–19:30 and Saturday 07:00–19:30; MiPermit warns event-day hours may differ. Sunday matchday provision not confirmed.
Supermarket permission/time limit
No nearby supermarket car park has been verified as authorised for football supporters; do not use customer-only parking for the match.
Retail parking — Greggs / Wendy’s surface
Northern Gateway Area B is free for 90 minutes only, no return within 2 hours; register free stay on MiPermit 737953. Not enough time for a match.
Retail parking — cinema, bowling and restaurants
Leisure multi-storey free-validation periods apply to genuine customers only: Vue 7h, Hollywood Bowl and Clip n Climb 4h, Slim Chickens/Joyato/Taste of Italy 3h. Not an unconditional matchday concession.
Hotel car park — Travelodge
Travelodge Northern Gateway guests qualify for free validated hotel parking, not general football supporters.
Total dwell time
Plan on at least four hours: around 60–90 minutes before kick-off, roughly 105–115 minutes of football and interval, two walks and departure delay; longer for a long pre-match stay or extra time.
After the match
February 2026 fan reporting describes stadium-car-park delays of up to an hour; not a guaranteed wait.

WHERE TO STAY

Driving and staying overnight?

Plan a base for the match. Check parking arrangements with the hotel before booking.

Where to stay

Stay in central Colchester around High Street, North Hill or the city-centre streets if you want a proper evening out and a choice of places to eat. You will still need to travel north to the stadium, using the Park & Ride bus while it runs or a taxi. Colchester Town station is convenient for parts of the centre; mainline trains use Colchester station. Choose Travelodge Colchester Northern Gateway if a short walk back from the game matters more than pubs and restaurants outside your hotel. It is on United Way beside the leisure park and close to the stadium. Guests have validated free parking at the leisure multi-storey or limited adjacent spaces, but that concession is for hotel customers, not football parking generally.

Useful Information ↗

For most overnight supporters, base yourself in the city centre and accept that the stadium is a separate matchday journey. Choose Northern Gateway instead only when getting back to the hotel quickly after the final whistle matters more than having Colchester's pubs and restaurants outside the door.

For the evening

The useful evening cluster is the city centre around High Street, Queen Street, North Hill and Crouch Street. Visit Colchester specifically highlights city-centre craft-beer venues, cocktail bars, live music and Queen Street late-night venues, with most of the central nightlife within easy walking distance.

For the train

Colchester Station is the mainline station for London/Norwich services and is the closest rail station to the stadium. Colchester United advises allowing about 45 minutes to walk from the station to the ground. Colchester Town station is more convenient for some central hotels but is not the mainline station.
