Matchday parking at Villa Park

Use the postcode of your booked car park for sat-nav, rather than trying to drive to Villa Park itself. If approaching from the M6, Aston Villa’s visiting guide recommends junction 6, then follow the approach supplied by your operator.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

Put your trip together

01 · Arrive

Your route into Villa Park

Head for the Doug Ellis Stand on Witton Lane, not the Holte End. From Witton station, turn left towards the roundabout, turn left into Witton Lane and continue to the visiting-supporter turnstiles on your right. Follow stewards if a barrier or queue changes your approach. Lower-tier Block Q normally uses turnstiles Q91–Q96B; upper-tier Block P uses P87–P89, including P88A. There are 64 steps to the upper concourse. Cup allocations may use part of the North Stand instead, so follow the block and entrance on your ticket. The away ticket office is on Witton Lane opposite the coach park. Construction reported around the North Stand in October 2026 can change the final approach, so allow time for screening and steward directions.

02 · Park and walk

Parking & park-and-ride

Book matchday parking if you want to drive close to Villa Park. Residents’ permit bays are enforced on matchdays, while Witton Lane and parts of Trinity Road close to general traffic. We could not verify any named stretch of public road where free parking is both permitted and dependable for a visiting supporter. For a booked space, look at the club’s travel site or Countrywide’s school car parks. Birchfield Primary School on Trinity Road, Prince Albert Junior School on Albert Road and Aston Tower School on Upper Sutton Street were advertised at £10 per car for the upcoming Fenerbahce match. Allow extra walking time around the away-end cordon, even at the nearer sites. Free parking is a better proposition if you use Tame Bridge Parkway and catch the train to Witton. StarCity on Watson Road advertises 2,400 free spaces and fans report a walk of around 30 minutes, but we could not confirm the centre permits parking solely to attend football. Ask the operator before treating it as an option. Tesco on Aston Lane is not a free matchday car park. You can book a separate paid space through YourParkingSpace, subject to its available hours; ordinary shopper parking has limits displayed on site. Budget four to five hours for a normal visit, longer for a cup tie, rather than relying on a three-hour allowance. Aim to have your car parked about 90 minutes before kick-off, earlier for a big fixture. If your chosen site is full, use a confirmed pre-booked alternative or park-and-ride. Do not spend the final half-hour circling residential streets; the time lost and risk of a fine outweigh the saving.

03 · Stay or head home?

Choose your base before your hotel

Stay around Birmingham New Street if you are arriving by rail or want to enjoy the city before the match. The journey to Witton is short and the AV82 shuttle provides another choice, while you have more restaurants and late-evening options than immediately around Villa Park.

Driving & road restrictions

Use the postcode of your booked car park for sat-nav, rather than trying to drive to Villa Park itself. If approaching from the M6, Aston Villa’s visiting guide recommends junction 6, then follow the approach supplied by your operator. Check the latest motorway works before you leave.

A traffic exclusion zone restricts Witton Lane between Aston Hall Road and Witton Road, plus Trinity Road between Nelson Road and Witton Lane. Aston Villa’s published guidance allows for closures from as early as two hours before kick-off, with reopening roughly 30–60 minutes after full-time depending on crowd movement.

If you drive via central Birmingham, check your vehicle against the Clean Air Zone before choosing the route. The charging area sits inside the A4540 Middleway; the stadium itself is outside it.

Parking verdict
Booking advisable close to ground; no unrestricted public on-street section legally verified for a matchday recommendation.
Free option — area
Tame Bridge Parkway, WS10 0LD: free rail-user park-and-ride (not free street parking). StarCity B7 5SA advertises free general parking, but football-only permission is unconfirmed.
Legal restrictions — Aston matchday zone
Birmingham City Council lists Aston B6 matchdays-only resident permit scheme; permit bays are not available to ordinary football visitors.
Legal restrictions — stadium closure roads
Witton Lane from Aston Hall Road to Witton Road and Trinity Road from Nelson Road to Witton Lane; TEZ may begin two hours before kick-off.
Matchday availability — StarCity
Supporters in January and September 2026 report parking there and walking around 20–30 minutes; this is experience, not proof of visitor permission or a guaranteed bay.
Matchday availability — residential streets
A November 2025 supporter account names Waterworks Street and Electric Avenue but says early arrival matters; restrictions were not legally verified.
Walk — StarCity to away entrance
Supporters report roughly 25–30 minutes to the stadium from 32 Watson Road B7 5SA; allow a little more to find Doug Ellis turnstiles.
Walk — King Edward VI Aston School and Y International
January 2026 visiting-club report: approximately 10 and 15 minutes to Villa Park respectively; add time for away-end access.
Walk — Countrywide school sites
Birchfield and Prince Albert Junior sites are advertised 0.5 mile from Villa Park; Aston Tower is 0.7 mile, before any away-end detour.
Arrive by — near-ground parking
Aim to park around 90 minutes before kick-off, earlier for bigger fixtures; this is planning advice, not an operator-imposed arrival time.
Paid fallback
Countrywide Management Solutions offers Birchfield Primary School B6 6AJ, Prince Albert Junior School B6 5NH and Aston Tower Primary School B6 5BE. Each advertised £10 per car for Aston Villa v Fenerbahce; other dates may differ.
Paid fallback — online operator
YourParkingSpace lists separately bookable parking at Tesco Aston Lane, B6 6QR, close to Witton station.

Supermarket permission/time limit
Tesco Aston Lane free-shopper maximum and football-only permission unconfirmed; signs govern. Paid YourParkingSpace bookings are exempt from shopper maximum-stay terms.
Supermarket booking access
YourParkingSpace Tesco listing: Monday–Saturday 06:00–23:59, Sunday 11:00–17:00; bank holiday hours may vary.
Total dwell time
Plan roughly 4–5 hours from parking to departure for a normal match, including early arrival, walking, the match and exit delay. Extra time/penalties require longer. This is an itinerary calculation, not a quoted site limit.
After the match
Nearby paid car parks can queue; fans report markedly variable Y International exits, including hour-long waits. Rail park-and-ride avoids the stadium road cordon, not rail crowds.
Countrywide opening window
Usually opens three hours before an event and closes one hour after, but individual event pages may specify a different opening time (e.g. 17:00 for the Fenerbahce match).

WHERE TO STAY

Driving and staying overnight?

Plan a base for the match. Check parking arrangements with the hotel before booking.

Where to stay

Stay around Birmingham New Street if you are arriving by rail or want to enjoy the city before the match. The journey to Witton is short and the AV82 shuttle provides another choice, while you have more restaurants and late-evening options than immediately around Villa Park. Broad Street and Brindleyplace suit a trip centred on pubs and the evening, though you will still need to get back towards New Street for the straightforward rail connection. A room around Aston is worth considering only when a shorter stadium journey matters more than wider choice. For a late kick-off or European cup tie, check your last train home before deciding against a hotel. Extra time, station queues and the walk from the away end can all make a tight connection unrealistic.

Things to know if travelling to Villa Park (8 October 2026) ↗

For most supporters, Birmingham city centre is the better overnight base because New Street connects quickly with Witton/Aston and the AV82 matchday shuttle adds another direct option. Choose Aston only when walking to Villa Park is more important than restaurants, nightlife and a wider hotel market.

For the evening

Broad Street and Brindleyplace are the clearest choice for a full post-match evening, with a dense run of bars, restaurants and late venues. The wider city centre, Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth also work, but Broad Street is the simplest nightlife-led hotel area for this venue.

For the train

Birmingham New Street is the most useful city-centre transport anchor. Witton is roughly five minutes on foot from Villa Park; Aston is roughly 15 minutes and can be useful after matches because it has more frequent city-bound services.
