FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW WIGAN ATHLETIC TO LEICESTER CITY

Wigan Athletic are 24th in League One after 10 league games, with 7 points. Their league position and recent results are the clearest guide to the task here. This is where they stand after the opening stretch, rather than where they are certain to finish. Wigan Athletic are in the bottom four, two points behind the side immediately above the relegation places. A result here would help the effort to climb out; it would not settle the season on its own.

Wigan Athletic come into the current picture with one win, one draw and three defeats across their last five league games, worth four points from a possible fifteen.

Leicester City are 10th in League One after 10 league games, with 15 points. Before the season, they were seen as promotion favourites. They have ground to make up on that early ambition. Leicester City are three points off 6th and the last play-off place. That is a gap to work on, not a reason to assume a place is already within reach.

The destination is King Power Stadium in Leicester. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For most football trips, the Welford Road corridor is the best compromise because it keeps King Power walkable while leaving the centre and railway station within a manageable walk. If the night out matters more than the shortest stadium walk, the Cathedral Quarter/St Martin's area is the stronger base.

An away day is a chance to follow Wigan Athletic somewhere different and make a proper day of the football. Check ticket access and the confirmed kick-off before booking; leave enough time either side of the game to enjoy the visit as well as support the team.

Welford Road / south city-centre fringe

The best all-round football-trip base in Leicester. It is close enough to walk back from King Power without turning the hotel choice into a pure stadium convenience play, while also putting the station and city centre within sensible walking distance.

  • Around a 10-minute walk from King Power Stadium.
  • Around a 13-minute walk from Leicester railway station, so it works well for rail arrivals.
The match journey

Hotels.com reports about 0.9 km / 10 minutes on foot to King Power Stadium. This is a normal city-street walk and is short enough to make the hotel genuinely useful before and after a match.

The trade-off

Not in the heart of St Martin's/Old Town nightlife; supporters wanting the best late-night food-and-drink position still have a walk north into the centre.

WHY STAY HERE?

voco Leicester by IHG

Welford Road / south city-centre fringe

Our view

The best all-round football-trip base in Leicester. It is close enough to walk back from King Power without turning the hotel choice into a pure stadium convenience play, while also putting the station and city centre within sensible walking distance. The hotel is a current 4-star voco operation on the former Hotel Brooklyn site and has materially stronger current guest feedback than the stadium-door Holiday Inn Express.

Why it suits this trip

  • Around a 10-minute walk from King Power Stadium.
  • Around a 13-minute walk from Leicester railway station, so it works well for rail arrivals.
  • Current Booking.com provider data showed an 8.7/10 score from roughly 4,800 reviews at the time of checking.
  • Modern full-service feel with bar/restaurant rather than a basic match-night-only proposition.
  • Strong balance between stadium access and reaching the central evening areas.

Getting to the ground

Hotels.com reports about 0.9 km / 10 minutes on foot to King Power Stadium. This is a normal city-street walk and is short enough to make the hotel genuinely useful before and after a match.

Pubs and the evening

Better positioned for the centre than the stadium-door hotel, but it is still a city-centre-fringe choice rather than being directly in the nightlife cluster.

Arriving by train

Hotels.com reports Leicester Station at about a 13-minute walk.

The trade-offs

  • Not in the heart of St Martin's/Old Town nightlife; supporters wanting the best late-night food-and-drink position still have a walk north into the centre.
  • Recent reviews include occasional complaints about service consistency, parking cost/availability and value.
  • The sampled prices varied substantially by date, including a £133 midweek observation, so it should not be presented as consistently cheap.

Research price context

Sampled at about £105 midweek (£83–£133) and about £88 on the selected non-home-match Friday/weekend baseline (£74–£96). In this sample, weekends were cheaper rather than carrying a premium.

Holiday Inn Express Leicester City by IHG

Filbert Way / King Power Stadium

The literal closest practical hotel to King Power Stadium: IHG describes it as next door and third-party mapping puts the walk at roughly one to two minutes. That makes it unbeatable for a late finish, families or anyone prioritising minimum walking. It is not the overall recommendation because the current quality evidence is weaker than voco and repeated 2026 reviews flag a long-running air-conditioning problem.

  • Roughly a 1–2 minute walk from King Power Stadium.
  • Free guest parking is directly between the hotel and stadium.
The match journey

IHG says the hotel is next door to King Power Stadium; Hotels.com reports about 0.2 km / 2 minutes on foot.

Our view

The literal closest practical hotel to King Power Stadium: IHG describes it as next door and third-party mapping puts the walk at roughly one to two minutes. That makes it unbeatable for a late finish, families or anyone prioritising minimum walking. It is not the overall recommendation because the current quality evidence is weaker than voco and repeated 2026 reviews flag a long-running air-conditioning problem.

Why it suits this trip

  • Roughly a 1–2 minute walk from King Power Stadium.
  • Free guest parking is directly between the hotel and stadium.
  • Free hot breakfast is included with standard stays, which adds value for an overnight football trip.
  • Simple post-match return with no need to cross the city centre.

Getting to the ground

IHG says the hotel is next door to King Power Stadium; Hotels.com reports about 0.2 km / 2 minutes on foot.

Pubs and the evening

Good for football convenience rather than a night out. For a broader pub/restaurant choice, supporters are better heading into the centre after the match.

Arriving by train

Hotels.com reports Leicester Station at around a 26-minute walk from the hotel.

The trade-offs

  • Current Booking.com provider score was materially lower than the other two primary picks at around 7.2/10.
  • Multiple 2026 reviews report the air-conditioning being out of order for a prolonged period; opening windows can introduce road/street noise.
  • The immediate stadium area is much weaker for a post-match night out than St Martin's/Old Town.
  • Sampled pricing was volatile and could be high even away from home-match nights.

Research price context

Sampled at about £124 midweek (£116–£140) and about £108 on the selected Friday/weekend baseline (£76–£134). Breakfast was included. The range is wide enough that this should be treated as a volatile stadium-adjacent property rather than a fixed budget rate.

The strongest choice when the evening after the match matters as much as the football. It sits directly in Leicester's Cathedral Quarter beside the St Martin's/Old Town food-and-drink cluster, has excellent current guest scores and is still walkable from King Power for supporters happy with a longer return. It is room-only and deliberately more like a boutique lodge than a full-service bar hotel.

  • Directly in the Cathedral Quarter beside St Martin's Square and the Old Town restaurant/bar cluster.
  • The hotel itself describes the surrounding area as having a wide choice of coffee shops, bars and restaurants.

Why it suits this trip

  • Directly in the Cathedral Quarter beside St Martin's Square and the Old Town restaurant/bar cluster.
  • Booking.com score was around 9.2/10 with very strong cleanliness, comfort and location subscores at time of checking.
  • The hotel itself describes the surrounding area as having a wide choice of coffee shops, bars and restaurants.
  • Room-only format suits supporters who expect to eat and drink in the city rather than remain in the hotel.

Getting to the ground

The hotel's own site states Leicester City Football Club is 1.4 miles away. The 28-minute figure is a transparent normal-walking-pace estimate from that published distance, not a live route time.

Pubs and the evening

This is the primary reason to choose it. Visit Leicester lists numerous independent restaurants, wine bars, craft beer and cocktail venues in and around St Martin's Square.

Arriving by train

Booking.com places Leicester Railway Station about 1.3 km / 0.8 miles from the property.

The trade-offs

  • The hotel states King Power Stadium is 1.4 miles away, so this is a materially longer post-match walk than voco or Holiday Inn Express.
  • No hotel bar/lounge or breakfast; recent guests specifically mention having nowhere inside to sit for a post-evening drink.
  • Reception/check-in is associated with the St Martins complex rather than feeling like a conventional large hotel front desk.
  • Some reviews mention street noise on busy nights and open-plan bathroom layouts in particular rooms.

Research price context

The sampled entry-level room was unusually stable at £125 on all six baseline dates checked, giving about £125 midweek and £125 at the weekend with no observed weekend premium.

YOUR AWAY DAY · King Power Stadium

The ground

Wigan Athletic at Leicester City

A modern bowl whose atmosphere is often debated by its own supporters. The ground can be visually and audibly transformed by big occasions and organised displays, but long-time fans often compare its separation of the Kop and away section unfavourably with Filbert Street's tighter arrangement. That is a recurring supporter view rather than an objective rule about every match.

Recorded capacity
32,261

Views from the away section

From the north-east corner you get a clear, unobstructed modern view across the bowl. The main compromise is distance rather than obstruction: the away section sits a fair way back from the pitch and the corner angle is less direct than a central side-on seat, but the rake still lets you follow the whole game comfortably.

Why the ground matters

King Power Stadium is historically young but sits in an old Leicester football landscape. Its importance comes from continuity of location, the 2016 title, European nights, the 2021-era success and the 2018 tragedy. Unlike Filbert Street, its identity is not mainly architectural; it is built from what happened there and the rituals and memorials supporters have layered onto it.

SK1 singing section

The area associated with Union FS and organised vocal support, developed after trials and campaigning for a dedicated singing environment.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha statue

Inaugurated in 2022 and designed as a permanent focal point outside the stadium. Its stone arrangement contains deliberate Thai and Buddhist references, including an eight-stone formation.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Memorial Garden

Opened one year after the 2018 accident on the site near the south-east corner. Floral tributes left after the crash were composted and used in the garden.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Wigan Athletic at Leicester City

The continuous, fully enclosed bowl is one of the reasons visiting noise carries well here. With stands of similar height and closed corners, sound is retained better than at open-corner modern grounds, so a full away allocation can make itself heard.

From the supporters

The King Power’s fully enclosed, even-height bowl is repeatedly noted for strong acoustics, helping both home and away support carry despite the ground’s modern uniform design.

When You're Smiling

The nearest Leicester has to a club anthem. Its precise route into the support is disputed; the club presents a commonly accepted story linking it to late-1970s pub singing at the Three Cranes and away-coach culture in the 1980s. A version is played shortly before kick-off at home matches.

Post-Horn Gallop before kick-off

Played at Leicester home games since 1941. Contrary to a widespread assumption, its Leicester origin predates the fox crest and is not simply a fox-hunting reference.

The Birch's matchday rally

Alan Birchenall's centre-circle microphone role became a distinctive piece of the pre-match routine and connects the current ground to a former player who has been around the club for more than half a century.

Supporter tifos in SK1

Union FS designs and funds visual displays as an attempt to make organised active support part of the modern King Power experience.

Food & drink

Wigan Athletic at Leicester City

Leicester’s current 2026/27 matchday picture is more city-centre-led than older away-day guides suggest. LCFC’s August visiting-supporter guide names five city-centre pubs for visiting fans, but one of them — Walkabout — closed on 12 September 2026, so the live verified list is effectively The Hind, Barley Mow, Locker Room and Corn Exchange. The long-standing Counting House away pub is also closed, despite a stale map label inside the same LCFC guide.

Food and drink around the ground

Around King Power Stadium, the dependable pre-match offer is stronger for food than for a designated away pub: LCFC confirms external catering vans and visiting-concourse counters, while Nando’s Freemans is currently open close to the ground. Train arrivals have the clearest range around London Road, Granby Street and the wider city centre before heading to Filbert Way.

Drivers going straight to the stadium have nearby food, but the close-ground pub picture needs more caution. Fox & Soar and Local Hero are current, supporter-discussed options, yet neither is on LCFC’s current visiting-pub list. The club Fan Zone is active in 2026/27 but fixture-specific; current away admission is not confirmed.

The Hind / Passion Blend & Hindbar

This is the clearest station-side choice in Leicester’s current official guidance. LCFC lists The Hind as a visiting-supporter pub and separately lists Passion Blend & Hindbar at the same address among its recommended eating places. Current venue and CAMRA information confirms the 49 London Road site is trading, serves food and welcomes families.

Barley Mow

Barley Mow is one of LCFC’s current visiting-supporter pubs and remains a straightforward traditional city-centre option. CAMRA confirms it is open and describes it as a traditional town-centre boozer near the railway station, but specifically says it does not serve meals, so it is better treated as a drinking stop than a food stop.

Away colours and match-specific door conditions are not stated in the current official evidence. There is no supported venue-to-stadium walking time, so walk_minutes is left null.

The Locker Room

The Locker Room is now one of the strongest current away-fan options in the centre. LCFC lists it as a visiting-supporter pub for 2026/27, while the venue’s current site confirms food, live sport, large screens, pool and ping pong. Recent visiting-supporter discussions also show it being actively promoted and used as an away-fan meeting point.

The Corn Exchange

The Corn Exchange is both on LCFC’s current visiting-supporter pub list and its recommended eating-place list. Wetherspoon’s live venue page confirms it is open, serves food and has TV screens, making it a practical city-centre option for supporters who want a meal as well as a drink.

  • Supporters wanting a central Wetherspoon option

Normal venue rules allow under-18s only between 8am and 8pm, but matchday-specific family or away-colour rules are not published in the evidence, so families should check before relying on entry.

Nando's Leicester - Freemans

For supporters who want food rather than a pub, this is the best verified close-ground option in the current evidence. LCFC includes the Freemans restaurant in its 2026/27 visiting-supporter eating list, and Nando’s current page confirms the branch is open and explicitly states that King Power Stadium is a nine-minute walk away.

  • Families or non-drinkers wanting a sit-down food option

The restaurant does not publish football-colour or fixture-specific admission rules. The nine-minute walk is retained because it is explicitly stated by the current official venue source rather than estimated.

King Power Stadium external catering vans

LCFC’s current visiting-supporter guide explicitly says visiting fans can buy a range of food and drink from catering vans around the stadium. It is the most dependable option for supporters who arrive at King Power without using the city centre first, and the guide also confirms food and drink counters once inside the visiting concourse.

Leicester City Fan Zone & Family Zone

The club’s Fan Zone is active in the 2026/27 season, with the September Oxford fixture featuring food and drink, a live DJ, competitions and a separate Family Zone for younger supporters. It is not safe to treat it as a general away-fan option, however: current 2026 coverage does not state away-ticket eligibility and previous official fixture guidance restricted the Fan Zone and Family Zone to home ticket holders.

The Local Hero

Local Hero is open, food-led and close to the stadium area. A current independent away guide describes it as popular with both home and away fans, while Leicester community discussion has reported plenty of families there on matchdays. However, LCFC does not include it in the 2026/27 visiting-pub list, so MatchdayHotels should not present its away admission as guaranteed without a fixture-level check.

The Fox & Soar

Fox & Soar is genuinely open and matchday-focused, with its current site listing upcoming Leicester City home dates and describing a lively pre-match crowd. Current independent football guidance says it has a mixture of home and away fans, while Fulham Supporters’ Trust also reported away admission in 2025.

The caution is that LCFC’s 2026/27 visiting-pub list does not include it and the venue itself emphasises Leicester supporters rather than publishing an away policy.

Accessibility

Wigan Athletic at Leicester City

Arrange away wheelchair tickets and parking through your visiting club before travelling. Leicester City's 2025/26 visiting guide lists accessible entry at turnstiles 42–43 and says disability parking must be bought in advance through the visiting club. The published £11 charge belongs to that season, so ask for the current fixture price rather than assuming it still applies.

Accessible journeys

The visitors' area has accessible toilets, with a RADAR key available from a steward, and audio-description headsets can be arranged. Leicester railway station has step-free access to all platforms, but that does not establish a step-free route over the entire walk to the ground. If you need a suitable drop-off point, a wheelchair space or help with the route, contact the club's disability team well before the match.

Continue along Lancaster Road, cross Welford Road and follow the stadium approach. Allow around 30–45 minutes on foot, rather than banking on the fastest estimate.

The caution is that LCFC’s 2026/27 visiting-pub list does not include it and the venue itself emphasises Leicester supporters rather than publishing an away policy.

Be at the stadium perimeter before the busiest turnstile period.

Rail, Underground & tram

Leicester has direct rail links with London, Nottingham and other Midlands destinations, but there is no rail or tram stop at the stadium. If the walk is unsuitable, take a bus towards Aylestone Road and allow time for the final walk to the visitors' corner. Check your return train before committing to a late kick-off.

Station to ground & away entrance

Go to the north-east corner of King Power Stadium for the visiting section, where the North and East Stands meet. Away tickets normally use turnstiles 40–49, with the precise entrance printed on the ticket. Allow time for security checks rather than arriving at the last minute. From Leicester station, follow the club's route via Nelson Mandela Park and Welford Road, then continue around the stadium perimeter to the visitors' corner.

If travelling from Freemen's Common or Welford Road parking, head towards the ground and follow signs and stewards to the North/East Stand junction. Accessible away entry is at turnstiles 42–43; anyone requiring assistance should arrange this in advance.

Buses & local travel

Use buses towards Aylestone Road if you do not want the whole walk from Leicester city centre. There is no regular bus stop immediately outside the visiting turnstiles. Leicester Park & Ride is another option if you are driving from farther out.

Birstall, Enderby and Meynell's Gorse offer free car parking for paying bus passengers, but the buses run into the city rather than directly to the away end. Enderby currently runs later on Monday to Saturday, until 9pm, while the other two sites finish at 7pm. There is no Sunday service, so an evening or Sunday fixture needs a different plan.

YOUR AWAY DAY · King Power Stadium

Parking

Wigan Athletic at Leicester City

Free street parking is not a reliable plan for King Power Stadium. You can find claims about streets farther out, but we could not verify a particular unrestricted stretch suitable for a full match. The residential roads around Filbert Street, Walnut Street and Aylestone Road include permit-controlled areas. For a straightforward visit, use authorised parking rather than circle the neighbourhood.

Parking & park-and-ride

The best-value verified option is the University of Leicester's Freemen's Common multi-storey on Welford Road, LE2 6BF. It explicitly welcomes football visitors and charges £5 all day on matchdays. The car park is open around the clock and has 550 spaces, though no individual bay is promised. Allow roughly 10–20 minutes to reach the away corner, plus time to leave after the game.

If being closest matters more than price, Leicester City sells Filbert Street matchday parking for £19 when available. Book before the match by calling 0344 815 5000, option 1. Independent car parks around Freemans Common and the Leicester Tigers ground are also advertised, but check the individual operator, tariff and whether football parking is genuinely offered.

For a council-run fallback, Newarke Street multi-storey has a published £8.80 tariff for up to six hours. It opens late Monday to Saturday but ordinarily closes at 6pm on Sundays and bank holidays, making it unsuitable for some fixtures. The walk to the away end is longer than from Freemen's Common. Allow at least four hours for parking, walking, the match and getting away, with extra margin for queues.

Morrisons on Aylestone Road has a three-hour maximum stay, which is too short for a normal football visit. Park & Ride is another option for suitable daytime Saturday games, but its closing times rule out many late kick-offs and all Sundays.

Parking verdict
Booking is advisable for the closest club car park, but £5 public matchday parking at Freemen’s Common is the best verified value option; do not rely on free streets
Free street evidence — Victoria Park Road
University suggests some free unrestricted stretches on the far side of Victoria Park, but exact legal sections and matchday access were not verified
Legal restrictions — Filbert Street
Leicester permit-zone B eligibility covers numbered stretches of Filbert Street and Filbert Street East; this is not a bay-by-bay restriction map
Legal restrictions — Aylestone Road
Permit-zone B includes addresses 65–101 odd; check actual bay signs and orders before parking

Legal restrictions — Walnut Street
Council lists portions of Walnut Street in permit zones B and D; no named free section established
Legal restrictions — nearby alternatives
Council lists parts of Upperton Road in Zone F and Jarrom Street in Zone D; permit eligibility does not identify every unrestricted bay
Best value — Freemen’s Common

Paid option — Filbert Street
£19 per car on current Leicester City parking page; reserve before match via 0344 815 5000 option 1
Paid option — Freemans Common independent
Club says independent sites around Freemans Common and Leicester Tigers usually £4–£5; no guaranteed individual operator or space

Council-run multi-storey, LE1 5SN, £8.80 up to 6 hours, 458 spaces
Newarke Street opening hours
Monday–Saturday 06:30–01:00; Sunday and bank holidays 10:00–18:00; check exceptions
Free Park & Ride parking
Birstall/Enderby/Meynell’s Gorse sites free for bus users; fare applies and no Sunday operation
Supermarket permission/time limit
Morrisons Aylestone Road LE2 7LT advertises 3-hour maximum; football parking permission not established; not suitable for a full match
Supermarket permission — retail parks
Retail/Leicester Tigers event-venue customer parking should not be treated as authorised football parking without site-specific permission
Total dwell time
Allow at least four hours, more for pre-match refreshments, slow walking, stoppage time or exit queues
Arrive by — best value site
Allow enough time to find a legal space and walk 10–20 minutes; no guaranteed on-the-day capacity
Booking recommendation
Book Filbert Street before the day if using club parking; for Freemen’s Common check matchday operation and turn up with payment method
After the match
Stadium approach roads and car-park exits may queue; farther council parking offers longer walk but avoids immediate stadium perimeter

Driving & road restrictions

Use King Power Stadium, Filbert Way, LE2 7FL for general directions, but set your sat-nav to the actual car park you have chosen. From the M1/M69 junction at M1 Junction 21, the club sends drivers towards the centre on the A5460, then via Upperton Road and Western Boulevard. Allow extra time on the final approach. For the £5 Freemen's Common multi-storey, navigate to Welford Road, LE2 6BF.

Its operator warns that you cannot turn right into the car park when heading south on Welford Road; approach northbound via Putney Road or use Counting House Road to reach Putney Road. Follow matchday signs and stewards rather than assuming every road beside the stadium stays open. The club says known temporary road closures will be announced through its fixture communications.

No specific 2026/27 closure timetable has been verified for every match, so do not plan a guaranteed quick drive out along Filbert Way or Raw Dykes Road.

Comfort & weather

Wigan Athletic at Leicester City

The forecast loads when you open this topic. Comfort and shelter guidance is below.

The away concourse is a good size, facilities are modern and multiple televisions let supporters keep watching the match while using the concourse. Covered seating removes most direct weather exposure; the main comfort trade-off is simply being a little farther from the pitch than at tighter older grounds.

YOUR AWAY DAY · King Power Stadium

Worth knowing

Wigan Athletic at Leicester City

An away supporter who only knows Leicester as the 2016 miracle misses much of what is in front of them. The interesting details are the old-ground continuity, the unusual pre-kick-off soundtrack, the memorial landscape and the tension between a modern bowl and supporters trying to manufacture a stronger home end.

Matchday features

Raised away wheelchair platform. Changing Places. Audio description

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

A detail worth noticing

The stadium address keeps the old-ground name in daily use.

The old and new grounds belong to the same small football district, allowing a visitor to understand 130-plus years of Leicester home grounds in one walkable area.

The mascot was named at Filbert Street and carried that name into the new stadium.

Use Leicester railway station for a straightforward away day at King Power Stadium. From the London Road exit, cross at the lights and follow Waterloo Way, New Walk and the path towards Nelson Mandela Park. Continue along Lancaster Road, cross Welford Road and follow the stadium approach. Allow around 30–45 minutes on foot, rather than banking on the fastest estimate.

Away coaches

If travelling on an organised away coach, follow your club's coach organiser rather than setting an independent parking destination. Visiting supporter guidance places coach drop-off by the front of the North Stand, convenient for the away turnstiles at the north-east corner. The organiser should confirm whether that position is being used for your fixture.

Arrange the return collection point before leaving the coach. Police and stewards can manage the approach roads around kick-off and full-time, so the coach may not be free to depart immediately. General city-centre tourist coach parking is a separate scheme and should not be mistaken for a football-coach allocation.

Accessible journeys

Arrange away wheelchair tickets and parking through your visiting club before travelling. Leicester City's 2025/26 visiting guide lists accessible entry at turnstiles 42–43 and says disability parking must be bought in advance through the visiting club. The published £11 charge belongs to that season, so ask for the current fixture price rather than assuming it still applies.

After the match

After the match

If you are driving, expect the roads nearest King Power Stadium to be busy immediately after full-time. Staying within the Filbert Street area may save a few minutes walking but does not guarantee a quick getaway. Freemen's Common provides an established separate car-park exit, although that does not remove wider traffic delays.

For a calmer departure, consider the longer walk to Newarke Street or your city-centre hotel, and avoid relying on an unverified shortcut through resident-only roads. For rail departures, allow time to walk back to Leicester station and move through the crowds before boarding. If using Park & Ride, check the last bus in both directions: the 7pm finish at two sites and lack of Sunday service can make it impractical after football.

After-match driving
Expect congestion near stadium and follow stewards; precise closure/holding period not confirmed for all fixtures
Longer-walk parking alternative

Rail return

Park & Ride return limitation
Birstall and Meynell’s Gorse finish about 19:00, Enderby about 21:00 Mon–Sat; no Sunday operation
Late fixture caveat
Newarke Street closes at 18:00 on Sundays and bank holidays under standard published hours
Away coach return
Use operator-confirmed collection point near visitor end; departure may be controlled

Where to stay

Stay along Welford Road or on the southern side of Leicester city centre if the football is the priority. That puts the King Power Stadium within a practical walk while keeping the railway station and central eating places accessible. The Holiday Inn Express beside the ground is the simplest option for getting back to your room straight after full-time.

For a stronger evening out, choose the city-centre side around St Martin's Square, Greyfriars or the Old Town. Those streets have a larger choice of independent restaurants, pubs and bars, but expect a longer walk to the ground. If arriving late or leaving early by train, staying near Leicester station is sensible; check the walking journey rather than assuming the stadium is immediately next door.

PUB / BAR

The Hind / Passion Blend & Hindbar

49 London Road, Leicester, LE2 0PD
Away fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORTrain arrivals wanting an official away-pub option · Supporters wanting food as well as a pint
MATCHDAY INTELThis is the clearest station-side choice in Leicester’s current official guidance. LCFC lists The Hind as a visiting-supporter pub and separately lists Passion Blend & Hindbar at the same address among its recommended eating places. Current venue and CAMRA information confirms the 49 London Road site is trading, serves food and welcomes families.
WORTH KNOWINGThe same premises is described under several names across current sources. Away colours are not addressed in the current evidence, so do not assume shirt admission.
PUB / BAR

The Locker Room

5-11 Belvoir Street, Leicester, LE1 6SL
Away fans welcomeFood available
BEST FORAway groups wanting live sport and food · Supporters arriving through the city centre
MATCHDAY INTELThe Locker Room is now one of the strongest current away-fan options in the centre. LCFC lists it as a visiting-supporter pub for 2026/27, while the venue’s current site confirms food, live sport, large screens, pool and ping pong. Recent visiting-supporter discussions also show it being actively promoted and used as an away-fan meeting point.
WORTH KNOWINGRecent Reddit posts include venue self-promotion and claims about matchday offers; those claims are not treated as authoritative here. Away colours and family admission remain unverified.
PUB / BAR

The Corn Exchange

1 Corn Exchange, Market Place, Leicester, LE1 5GG
Away fans welcomeFamily: checkFood available
BEST FORBudget-conscious pub food and drinks · Supporters wanting a central Wetherspoon option
MATCHDAY INTELThe Corn Exchange is both on LCFC’s current visiting-supporter pub list and its recommended eating-place list. Wetherspoon’s live venue page confirms it is open, serves food and has TV screens, making it a practical city-centre option for supporters who want a meal as well as a drink.
WORTH KNOWINGNormal venue rules allow under-18s only between 8am and 8pm, but matchday-specific family or away-colour rules are not published in the evidence, so families should check before relying on entry.
PUB / BAR

Barley Mow

149 Granby Street, Leicester, LE1 6FE
Away fans welcomeNo food
BEST FORTrain arrivals wanting a traditional pub · Away groups prioritising beer over food
MATCHDAY INTELBarley Mow is one of LCFC’s current visiting-supporter pubs and remains a straightforward traditional city-centre option. CAMRA confirms it is open and describes it as a traditional town-centre boozer near the railway station, but specifically says it does not serve meals, so it is better treated as a drinking stop than a food stop.
WORTH KNOWINGAway colours and match-specific door conditions are not stated in the current official evidence. There is no supported venue-to-stadium walking time, so walk_minutes is left null.
PUB / BAR

The Local Hero

84 Aylestone Road, Leicester, LE2 7LB
Usually away-friendlyFamily: checkFood available
BEST FORSupporters wanting food and a pub near the ground if away admission is confirmed · Groups mixing drinkers and diners
MATCHDAY INTELLocal Hero is open, food-led and close to the stadium area.
WORTH KNOWINGFamily presence is supporter-reported rather than a published football-matchday policy. Away colours and any fixture-specific door restrictions remain unknown.
PUB / BAR

The Fox & Soar

Raw Dykes Road, Leicester, LE2 7FQ
Usually away-friendlyLimited food
BEST FORSupporters wanting a pub immediately by the stadium if away admission is confirmed · Pre-match football atmosphere
MATCHDAY INTELFox & Soar is genuinely open and matchday-focused, with its current site listing upcoming Leicester City home dates and describing a lively pre-match crowd.
WORTH KNOWINGTreat away admission as a current lead, not a guaranteed rule. Check the specific fixture before recommending it publicly, especially for away colours or higher-risk games.

FOOD

Nando's Leicester - Freemans

Where it isFreeman's Leisure Park, 86 Aylestone Road, Leicester, LE2 7LB9 min walk to the groundView on map ↗

9 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORA straightforward meal close to King Power Stadium · Families or non-drinkers wanting a sit-down food option
WORTH KNOWINGThe restaurant does not publish football-colour or fixture-specific admission rules. The nine-minute walk is retained because it is explicitly stated by the current official venue source rather than estimated.
FOOD VAN / STALL

King Power Stadium external catering vans

LCFC’s current visiting-supporter guide explicitly says visiting fans can buy a range of food and drink from catering vans around the stadium. It is the most dependable option for supporters who arrive at King Power without using the city centre first, and the guide also confirms food and drink counters once inside the visiting concourse.

BEST FORSupporters going straight to the ground · A quick bite without relying on pub admission
WORTH KNOWINGThe guide does not name individual van operators, menus or exact pitches, so treat this as a stadium matchday service rather than a fixed independent venue.
FANZONE

Leicester City Fan Zone & Family Zone

Where it isKing Power Stadium, Filbert Way, Leicester, LE2 7FLView on map ↗

The club’s Fan Zone is active in the 2026/27 season, with the September Oxford fixture featuring food and drink, a live DJ, competitions and a separate Family Zone for younger supporters. It is not safe to treat it as a general away-fan option, however: current 2026 coverage does not state away-ticket eligibility and previous official fixture guidance restricted the Fan Zone and Family Zone to home ticket holders.
