FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW PORTSMOUTH TO BIRMINGHAM CITY

This fixture is still months away, on 1 January. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Portsmouth are involved in the promotion picture by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Portsmouth are 13th in the Championship after 11 league games, with 15 points. Set that against the summer expectation: a side with survival to secure.

Portsmouth come into the current picture with two wins, two draws and one defeat across their last five league games, worth eight points from a possible fifteen. Birmingham City's last five recorded league games brought one win, three draws and one defeat: six points from a possible fifteen. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

Birmingham City were 11th in the Championship after 7 league games, with 10 points in the latest saved table. Before the season, they were seen as promotion and play-off contenders.

The destination is St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park in Birmingham. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For most supporters, base yourself around the Bullring, eastern city centre or Digbeth rather than immediately beside the stadium. You can walk out towards the ground with the matchday crowd, then return to a much wider choice of pubs, bars, restaurants and late venues. A New Street/Southside hotel makes sense if rail and nightlife matter more than shortening the stadium walk; a Bordesley-side room only wins if price or proximity is the priority. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

An away day is a chance to follow Portsmouth somewhere different and make a proper day of the football. Check ticket access and the confirmed kick-off before booking; leave enough time either side of the game to enjoy the visit as well as support the team.

Table and form checked 21 October.

Aparthotel Adagio Birmingham City Centre

Aparthotel Adagio Birmingham City Centre

Bullring / Digbeth edge

This is the strongest all-round football-trip choice rather than simply the nearest hotel. It is on the east side of the centre, close to the Bullring and Digbeth, so supporters get a sensible walk towards St Andrew's and still come back to one of Birmingham's best evening areas.

  • On the correct side of the city centre for St Andrew's, avoiding the extra distance of Broad Street/Brindleyplace hotels.
  • Digbeth's independent bars, food and late venues are close enough to use before or after the match.
The match journey

1.01 miles is the approximate straight-line distance from hotel coordinates to stadium coordinates; the actual walking route is longer. For planning, allow about 25-30 minutes via the Digbeth/Coventry Road side of the centre. Busy road crossings and matchday crowds can slow the final section.

The trade-off

It is not a turnstile-side hotel: allow roughly 25-30 minutes on foot to the ground depending on route, crowds and road crossings.

WHY STAY HERE?

Aparthotel Adagio Birmingham City Centre

Bullring / Digbeth edge

Our view

This is the strongest all-round football-trip choice rather than simply the nearest hotel. It is on the east side of the centre, close to the Bullring and Digbeth, so supporters get a sensible walk towards St Andrew's and still come back to one of Birmingham's best evening areas. Current Booking.com and TripAdvisor evidence is markedly stronger than the budget properties nearer the ground, and the studio format gives useful extra space, a kitchenette and air conditioning.

Why it suits this trip

  • On the correct side of the city centre for St Andrew's, avoiding the extra distance of Broad Street/Brindleyplace hotels.
  • Digbeth's independent bars, food and late venues are close enough to use before or after the match.
  • Booking.com was actively returning the property for the sampled 2026 dates and showed a current 8.8/10 score from more than 4,000 reviews.
  • TripAdvisor was 4.5/5 from roughly 600 reviews, with recent 2026 stays repeatedly praising location, cleanliness, space, staff and comfortable rooms.
  • The official property page confirms double and twin studios, kitchens, air conditioning, 24-hour reception and proximity to New Street/Bullring.

Getting to the ground

1.01 miles is the approximate straight-line distance from hotel coordinates to stadium coordinates; the actual walking route is longer. For planning, allow about 25-30 minutes via the Digbeth/Coventry Road side of the centre. Busy road crossings and matchday crowds can slow the final section.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel is on the Bullring side of Digbeth. Visit Birmingham identifies Digbeth as a major cluster of independent bars, restaurants and night-time venues, while Chinatown/Southside and John Bright Street are also walkable.

Arriving by train

The hotel's own site places New Street and the Bullring about 5 minutes away in its overview, while its detailed transport section gives a longer 10-minute New Street walk. Moor Street is also nearby. Treat 5-10 minutes as the realistic New Street range depending on entrance and luggage.

The trade-offs

  • It is not a turnstile-side hotel: allow roughly 25-30 minutes on foot to the ground depending on route, crowds and road crossings.
  • The matchday walk is through busy urban Digbeth/Bordesley rather than a pedestrianised centre.
  • The aparthotel model is less full-service than a conventional four-star hotel; the official site describes weekly housekeeping for longer stays.
  • A detailed June 2026 TripAdvisor review alleged discriminatory and unprofessional treatment. That is a serious complaint worth recording, but it is not a recurring pattern in the wider current review evidence.

Research price context

Typically about £130 midweek in the clean baseline sample, with ordinary sampled midweek rates ranging roughly £92-£161. The three ordinary weekend samples were unusually consistent at about £125, so there was no normal weekend premium in this sample. A Birmingham City home-match Saturday checked separately was about £173.

The Moseley Arms

The Moseley Arms

Digbeth / Highgate side

This is the proximity pick with caveats, not the quality winner. It is a simple pub-with-rooms on the Digbeth/Highgate side of the centre, substantially closer to St Andrew's than the main city-centre hotels and still walkable to Digbeth.

  • Around two-thirds of a mile from the stadium as the crow flies, making it a realistically short matchday walk.
  • Recent TripAdvisor evidence includes clean/value-focused stays and a football-specific review saying it worked well for an away match.
The match journey

0.67 miles is the approximate straight-line distance from hotel coordinates to stadium coordinates; the street route is longer. Allow roughly 15-20 minutes on foot, with ordinary busy-road crossings on the Highgate/Bordesley side.

The trade-off

This is budget pub accommodation, not a polished full-service hotel.

WHY STAY HERE?

The Moseley Arms

Digbeth / Highgate side

Our view

This is the proximity pick with caveats, not the quality winner. It is a simple pub-with-rooms on the Digbeth/Highgate side of the centre, substantially closer to St Andrew's than the main city-centre hotels and still walkable to Digbeth. Current Booking.com evidence is respectable for a budget property, and there is recent football-trip feedback describing clean rooms, a useful pub atmosphere and other supporters around. The trade-off is a much greater noise and room-consistency risk than at Adagio.

Why it suits this trip

  • Around two-thirds of a mile from the stadium as the crow flies, making it a realistically short matchday walk.
  • Booking.com actively returned it on multiple sampled 2026 dates and currently scores it 7.7/10, with value, staff and cleanliness among the stronger sub-scores.
  • Recent TripAdvisor evidence includes clean/value-focused stays and a football-specific review saying it worked well for an away match.
  • Free on-site parking and a pub downstairs can suit supporters arriving by car or wanting a simple one-night football stay.
  • It is still close enough to walk into the main Digbeth/Bullring area rather than being isolated beside the stadium.

Getting to the ground

0.67 miles is the approximate straight-line distance from hotel coordinates to stadium coordinates; the street route is longer. Allow roughly 15-20 minutes on foot, with ordinary busy-road crossings on the Highgate/Bordesley side.

Pubs and the evening

There is a pub on site and the main Digbeth nightlife cluster is walkable, but the hotel is not in the strongest part of the late-night cluster. It is better seen as a short-stadium-walk property with access to Digbeth, rather than a nightlife-first hotel.

Arriving by train

Booking.com describes Bordesley station as about an 8-minute walk. Matchday travel guides warn that Bordesley has limited stopping patterns, so most national-rail users should still plan around New Street or Moor Street and treat Bordesley as a bonus rather than the main arrival plan.

The trade-offs

  • This is budget pub accommodation, not a polished full-service hotel.
  • Noise is the main risk: the hotel's own site advertises live entertainment every Saturday night, and older/mixed review evidence repeatedly mentions music, road noise, thin walls and creaking floors.
  • Some reviews mention hot rooms, occasional bathroom/drainage smells and maintenance inconsistency.
  • The hotel's own site says reception closes at 23:00 while Booking.com lists a 24-hour front desk; supporters arriving late should confirm the actual after-hours procedure directly before relying on it.
  • Bordesley station is nearby, but its service pattern is limited and should not be treated as a substitute for staying near New Street/Moor Street.

Research price context

Usually around £70 midweek in the sample and about £75 on ordinary sampled weekends. The normal weekend uplift was modest at roughly 10%, while the separate home-match Saturday check rose to £95.

YOUR AWAY DAY · St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park

The ground

Portsmouth at Birmingham City

An old urban football ground embedded in east Birmingham rather than a detached out-of-town bowl. The current naming-rights title is St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, but the historic name remains the natural reference point. The Kop's side-on position is a small visual oddity; the Tilton Road end carries strong home-support symbolism; and the Gil Merrick side has recently accommodated visiting support.

Views from the away section

Away views are generally unobstructed and good.

Current ground-guide and recent visiting-club guidance agree that the Gil Merrick lower away section gives a good unobstructed behind-goal view, with straightforward concourse food and drink provision.

Why the ground matters

St Andrew's is the strongest physical continuity in Birmingham City's modern story. It opened in 1906, survived bombing and fire, carries memorials and murals, and has given names such as Tilton and Gil Merrick a second life in supporter vocabulary. A proposed future move therefore matters not simply because a new stadium would be bigger, but because leaving this particular accumulation of memory would be a major cultural change.

Tilton Road end

Closely associated with the home support and now also the location context for the Francis/Bellingham mural.

The Kop

Unusually runs along the side of the pitch rather than behind a goal.

Gil Merrick Stand

Named after one of the club's great local figures; a September 2026 visiting allocation used this area.

St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park

The current commercial name dates from a 2024 naming-rights agreement.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Portsmouth at Birmingham City

Can be loud for derby/high-demand fixtures; visiting support is close enough to influence atmosphere.

From the supporters

Supporter observation

St Andrew's can be one of the more intense Championship away days when the crowd and occasion are right. A packed, high-stakes game brings the old ground to life, with noise close to the pitch and a much stronger feel than you might get at a quieter fixture.

KRO before and during matches

Supporter interpretation

Singing Keep Right On is the clearest recurring supporter ritual and an immediate cue to the club's historical self-image.

Food & drink

Portsmouth at Birmingham City

For most visiting supporters, Birmingham works best as a city-centre-to-Digbeth away day rather than a hunt for a pub beside St Andrew’s. New Street is the obvious rail meeting point; The Shakespeare is virtually outside, while The Wellington suits adult real-ale groups. From there the walk through Digbeth brings The Anchor and Old Crown into play before the last stretch to the Gil Merrick Stand.

Food and drink around the ground

Near the ground, Cricketers Arms is the clearest exception to a largely home-fan pub scene, but recent matchday reviews warn of queues and crowding. Keep colours sensible once you leave Digbeth: current independent guidance discourages them immediately around the stadium, and doors can tighten for higher-risk fixtures.

Food is stronger away from the turnstiles: Old Crown for a proper pub meal, Original Patty Men for burgers, Indian Streatery for quick Punjabi street food, or Shababs if a Birmingham balti is worth a deliberate detour. Inside the away end, expect pies, burgers and hot dogs; alcohol is fixture-dependent, and outside food cannot be taken in.

Cricketers Arms

The one near-ground pub with repeated away-fan evidence. It is small, mixed and genuinely handy for the away end, but a November 2025 matchday review found long queues and an overcrowded bar.

Station to ground & away entrance

Head for the Gil Merrick Stand and the away entrance on the Coventry Road side of St Andrew’s. Birmingham City’s stadium plan places the visiting coach park and away ticket collection point beside that entrance. Follow your match ticket and stewards if your allocation or entry arrangements differ. From the city centre, follow the route through Digbeth towards Coventry Road rather than walking round to the home turnstiles on Cattell Road.

If you are arriving by shuttle, follow the signed pedestrian approach from its stop on St Andrew’s Road. Give yourself time for turnstile checks and the final approach, particularly when road closures separate pedestrians from traffic around the ground.

Buses & local travel

For the simplest ride from the city centre, use Birmingham City’s free 1875 matchday shuttle if it is running for your fixture. Transport for West Midlands confirms a service for men’s home matches, with a valid match or season ticket required to board. Check the boarding stop before setting off. The operator originally advertised departures from Smallbrook Queensway, with buses reaching St Andrew’s Road and returning towards the centre.

Those detailed stop and time arrangements date from the service launch and should be checked for the current game. Ordinary buses 17 and 60 also serve the ground. They are useful when you do not want to walk, but allow for diversions and heavier traffic after full-time.

Parking

Portsmouth at Birmingham City

**Book parking if you are driving to St Andrew’s.** The ground has no general visitor car park, and we could not confirm a named residential street that is unrestricted for a complete matchday visit. Do not mistake a previously proposed stadium permit scheme for an active rule: the council rejected that proposal in 2016, although normal street restrictions remain. Frederick Cooper, B9 4BZ, is a useful staffed matchday option.

Parking & park-and-ride

The independent operator lists RingGo code 44773 and requires pre-booking there. It also lists Carter Environmental on Lawley Middleway and Martell Timber on Coventry Road. Typical prices are advertised at £6–£10, not as guaranteed rates for your fixture. Most sites open three hours before kick-off and close one hour after full-time. Free parking on nearby streets is not something we can safely recommend.

In the Digbeth and Irish Quarter controlled zone, signed pay-by-phone bays charge Monday to Saturday, 8am–6pm, with a four-hour maximum. Sunday and bank-holiday charging exceptions do not override other signs or prove a particular bay is suitable. For a straightforward cheaper fallback, Green Parking’s Digbeth High Street car park, B5 6DY, advertises £4.50 all day, RingGo code 2855 and 24-hour access.

You can walk onward or check the free ticket-holder shuttle from the centre. It is not a reserved space, and the operator advises against overnight parking following wider-area vehicle incidents. Arrive with at least an hour to spare and allow four to five hours for parking, walking, the match and getting back. Morrisons Small Heath permits three hours for shoppers, which is not a suitable ordinary football-parking arrangement.

Do not leave your car in supermarket customer bays for the game unless the operator separately authorises your complete stay.

Parking verdict
Booking advisable. No safely confirmed free on-street bay for the full match visit; choose authorised pre-booked parking or an established pay car park.
Legal restrictions — stadium matchday permit-zone proposal
Council declined to proceed with proposed local St Andrew’s stadium matchday CPZ in 2016. Does not remove existing restrictions.
Legal restrictions — Digbeth and Irish Quarter zone
On-street signed paid bays: Mon–Sat 08:00–18:00, maximum 4 hours, RingGo payment, no return for one hour. Sundays not within the published charging days; individual signs remain decisive.
Matchday availability — local streets
2026 fan reports describe heavy competition, post-match congestion and vehicle-security concerns; reports are anecdotal and do not establish legal parking permission.

YOUR AWAY DAY · St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park

Worth knowing

Portsmouth at Birmingham City

An away supporter gets more from St Andrew's by reading it as a lived-in Birmingham ground rather than ticking off facilities. The things worth noticing are the supporter language, the Tilton identity, the historic memorials and the odd layers of humour and damage attached to the stadium.

Matchday features

21 away wheelchair positions. Good unobstructed view. Balti-pie/local food identity

Bags and entry

Check current stadium policy.

KRO is not a generic terrace song

Supporter interpretation

It has a specific 1956 origin story and works as everyday Birmingham City shorthand.

The ground carries visible club history

Supporter interpretation

The Hall clock and Francis/Bellingham mural reward a visitor who looks beyond the pitch.

The Second City derby shapes language even when Villa are not the opponents

The rivalry turns up in trophy history, supporter humour and stories such as Paul Tait's 1995 celebration.

The ground is old enough to have accumulated genuine oddity

Club folklore

Snow at the opening, wartime bombing, the fire-station fire and the curse story all belong to the same site.

The Francis/Bellingham mural near the Tilton Road end

It tells a Birmingham-specific youth story in one image.

The Jeff Hall memorial clock

Supporter interpretation

Its story reaches well beyond football.

The side-on Kop

It breaks the assumption that a 'Kop' must sit behind a goal.

The mixture of historic and commercial naming

The official Knighthead name is current, but 'St Andrew's' remains the emotional and historical core.

How close the proposed Sports Quarter remains to the old east-Birmingham footprint

Supporter interpretation

The future-ground story is about continuity of place as much as scale.

1906 snowy opening

Supporters and volunteers helped make the first match possible after heavy snow.

Second World War damage

The ground was repeatedly hit and later lost records and equipment in a wartime stand fire.

Jeff Hall clock

Supporter interpretation

Connects the ground to the player whose death helped change public attitudes to polio vaccination.

Record Breakers mural

Supporter interpretation

A modern heritage work rather than a generic decorative mural, specifically linking Trevor Francis and Jude Bellingham.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Trains

Rail, Underground & tram

Use Birmingham Moor Street or New Street for a reliable arrival, then walk through Digbeth or use the matchday shuttle. Moor Street is closer to the ground, while New Street has the widest choice of connecting trains. Allow extra time for the walk and the roads around the stadium.

Bordesley is physically nearer, with roughly ten minutes to the ground, but its ordinary train service is extremely limited. Extra football trains only run when advertised, so check your actual match in the journey planner before depending on it for either direction.

Bordesley has no step-free access to its platforms. New Street and Moor Street both have step-free station access, although you still need to consider the onward street journey.

Coaches

Away coaches

If you are travelling on an official away coach, follow your organiser’s drop-off and collection instructions rather than selecting a public parking site. Birmingham City’s published stadium plan identifies a visitors’ coach park beside the away entrance at the Gil Merrick Stand, reached from the Coventry Road side.

That is the most convenient approach for the visiting turnstiles, but traffic management can change how coaches enter and leave. Confirm the actual collection point with your driver before leaving the coach, and keep enough time after the final whistle for controlled departure.

Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Arrange accessible matchday parking through your own club’s ticket office before travelling. Birmingham City’s visiting-supporter guide places its accessible visitor spaces in the away car park on Coventry Road and says entry closes one hour before kick-off. Spaces are limited and should not be treated as available without prior confirmation.

The club provides accessible viewing arrangements, commentary headsets and induction loops on request. Speak to the visiting ticket office for seating, parking or assistance-dog arrangements, and ask a steward for the matchday disability liaison officer when you arrive.

Bordesley railway station is not step-free. For rail travellers who need step-free platforms, New Street and Moor Street have them, but a suitable onward route to the away entrance should still be arranged.

Station step-free distinction
Bordesley no step-free platforms; Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Moor Street have step-free platforms.
After the match

After the match

For the smoothest return, leave time to get away from the stadium before expecting to move quickly through traffic. The road layout around Cattell Road and Coventry Road is constrained, and the club has previously operated road closures immediately after matches. Follow the stewards rather than trying to drive through the stadium frontage.

The 1875 shuttle back towards Smallbrook Queensway can avoid a long walk to the city centre, but expect demand when the crowd leaves together. Check the current service times before relying on it for a tight train connection.

If you booked staffed matchday parking, be back before its stated closing time, generally one hour after full-time. A more distant city-centre car park trades a longer walk for avoiding some of the roads closest to the ground.

Road closure precedent
2025/26 club plan closed Cattell Road before and after matches; current fixture application unconfirmed.
Stadium-side traffic
Supporters in August 2026 reported slow car exits and congestion; anecdotal rather than an official traffic guarantee.
Return shuttle
TfWM lists free matchday shuttle; 2024 launch route returned from St Andrew’s Road to Smallbrook Queensway.
Matchday parking closing
Independent staffed sites generally close one hour after full-time.
Rail fallback
Bordesley additional football trains operate only if shown in timetable; otherwise travel via main Birmingham stations.
Suggested connection planning
Allow generous buffer for crowd exit, onward walking/shuttle queues, and rail check-in; no guaranteed clearance time verified.

Where to stay

Stay on the Bullring or Digbeth side of central Birmingham for the best balance of match access and an evening out. It keeps the main railway stations, food and bars within reach, and gives you a sensible walking or shuttle route towards St Andrew’s. There is little advantage to sleeping immediately beside the ground unless proximity matters most.

Digbeth has a useful choice of independent pubs, restaurants and late venues around the Custard Factory and High Street. For a railway-led trip, staying near New Street or Moor Street is just as practical, especially if your train home leaves soon after the final whistle.

There is no need to book a hotel solely for the football. If you are travelling a long distance for an evening match, check the last useful train before deciding.

Best overnight base
Bullring, Digbeth or eastern city centre for stadium access and evening food/drinks.
Rail-led base
New Street or Moor Street area for rail arrivals and connection to free shuttle.
Stadium accommodation trade-off
St Andrew’s is east of city-centre hotel/restaurant clusters; Digbeth offers broader overnight facilities.

Matchday services and parking arrangements can change. Confirm current details before travelling.

AWAY-DAY OVERVIEW

Before you head to the ground

For most visiting supporters, Birmingham works best as a city-centre-to-Digbeth away day rather than a hunt for a pub beside St Andrew’s.

Read full overview Hide full overview

For most visiting supporters, Birmingham works best as a city-centre-to-Digbeth away day rather than a hunt for a pub beside St Andrew’s. New Street is the obvious rail meeting point; The Shakespeare is virtually outside, while The Wellington suits adult real-ale groups. From there the walk through Digbeth brings The Anchor and Old Crown into play before the last stretch to the Gil Merrick Stand.

PUB / BAR

The Old Crown

188 High Street, Deritend, Birmingham B12 0LD
20 min walkAway fans welcomeFamily friendlyFood available
BEST FORproper pre-match meal · groups · families · Digbeth overnight stay
MATCHDAY INTELThe strongest all-round Digbeth stop: current food, proper seating and recent away-fan evidence from Birmingham v Hull. It suits groups wanting a meal rather than squeezing into a ground-side football pub.
WORTH KNOWINGWeekends are busy and the pub recommends booking; away-colours policy is not published, so large groups should check first.
PUB / BAR

Cricketers Arms

48 Little Green Lane, Small Heath, Birmingham B9 5AX
Away fans welcome
BEST FORclosest credible away-friendly pint · supporters wanting to drink near the ground
MATCHDAY INTELThe one near-ground pub with repeated away-fan evidence. It is small, mixed and genuinely handy for the away end, but a November 2025 matchday review found long queues and an overcrowded bar.
WORTH KNOWINGArrive early; do not assume colours are formally approved, and expect service to slow sharply close to kick-off.
PUB / BAR

The Anchor Digbeth

308 Bradford Street, Birmingham B5 6ET
22 min walkAway access: checkFood available
BEST FORwalk from the city centre · real ale · light food
MATCHDAY INTELA restored Digbeth pub on the walk from town, good for cask, Guinness and a light bite. Current away-guide evidence is positive, and an away supporter reported drinking there in colours without trouble.
WORTH KNOWINGThat colours report is from 2023, not a published door policy; higher-risk fixtures can change admissions.
PUB / BAR

The Shakespeare, Lower Temple Street

Lower Temple Street, Birmingham B2 4JD
25 min walkAway access: checkFood available
BEST FORtrain arrivals · easy group rendezvous · breakfast or pub food
MATCHDAY INTELThe simplest rail rendezvous: a Nicholson’s pub virtually outside New Street with breakfast, pies and pub classics. Away supporters use it across Birmingham football, although evidence specific to current Birmingham City home games is thinner.
WORTH KNOWINGExpect it to fill on football Saturdays; current away-colours policy is not published.
PUB / BAR

The Wellington

37 Bennetts Hill, Birmingham B2 5SN
30 min walkAway access: checkLimited food
BEST FORNew Street arrivals · real-ale groups · meeting before the walk
MATCHDAY INTELExcellent adult meeting point on Bennetts Hill for New Street arrivals: specialist real ale, handmade cobs and permission to bring a takeaway. It is not a near-ground pub and has no current BCFC-specific door policy.
WORTH KNOWINGOver-18s only. Use it to meet in town, then leave enough time for the roughly half-hour walk to the ground.

What to eatCheezy-E aged-beef burger, Alabama Slammer fried chicken, gravy fries and wings.

A strong Digbeth food stop for burgers rather than beers: Cheezy-E, Alabama Slammer fried chicken, gravy fries and wings. It is casual and on the route east, making most sense for Saturday arrivals with time to eat.

FOOD

Shababs Balti Restaurant

163-165 Ladypool Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham B12 8LQ
Where it isIn the Balti Triangle on Ladypool Road. This is a deliberate food detour south of the direct New Street-to-St Andrew’s route, better for an early arrival or overnight trip than a last-minute pre-match stop.View on map ↗
Birmingham baltisit-down restaurant
What to eatTraditional Birmingham balti, fast-cooked in a thin-pressed carbon-steel bowl and served in the same dish, with freshly baked tandoor breads.

For a proper Birmingham food stop, Shababs still serves traditional balti from noon daily in the Balti Triangle. It is worth the detour for the local speciality, not as a last-minute stop on the ground route.

BEST FORlocal speciality · early arrival · overnight supporters · groups wanting a proper meal
WORTH KNOWINGAllow separate travel time from Ladypool Road; the restaurant is unlicensed but allows BYOB, with soft drinks bought on site.
