FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW LIVERPOOL TO NOTTINGHAM FOREST

This fixture is still months away, on 17 April. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Liverpool are involved in the chase for a higher league finish by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Recent results give Liverpool ten points from a possible fifteen, with three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five league games. Over their last five recorded league games, Nottingham Forest have taken four points from a possible fifteen: one win, one draw and three defeats. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

Liverpool were 5th in the Premier League after 7 league games, with 12 points in the latest saved table. The pre-season outlook had them down as challengers for Champions League football.

Nottingham Forest were 19th in the Premier League after 7 league games, with 5 points in the latest saved table. They started the campaign regarded as a side with survival to secure.

The destination is The City Ground in Nottingham. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For most supporters, base yourself between Nottingham Station and the city centre rather than forcing a stay beside the stadium. West Bridgford is useful when being close to the ground is the overriding priority, but its small hotel stock currently involves more quality trade-offs. The station/city-centre corridor gives a straightforward walk over Trent Bridge to the match and a better choice of reliable hotels. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

For Liverpool supporters, the point of the trip is being there for the team. Once tickets and kick-off are confirmed, work out whether the journey home leaves time for a meal or a drink, or whether a night away makes the better day of it.

Table and form checked 22 October.

Leonardo Hotel Nottingham

  • About a one-mile practical walking route to the City Ground, so there is no need to depend on post-match taxis.
  • Around five minutes on foot from Nottingham Station, making arrival and departure unusually simple for a football trip.
The match journey

Rome2Rio gives about one mile between the hotel and City Ground; Forest's own guidance puts Nottingham Station at roughly 20 minutes' walk from the stadium. Booking.com's City Ground search lists Leonardo at roughly 0.7 miles as a proximity measure.

WHY STAY HERE?

Leonardo Hotel Nottingham

Station Street / Nottingham Station, southern city centre

Our view

This is the strongest Nottingham Forest hotel for the widest range of supporters. It is close to Nottingham Station, roughly a one-mile walk from the City Ground, and still within easy walking distance of central bars and restaurants. Current Booking.com feedback is strong and recent Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly praise cleanliness, staff and convenience. It is not the cheapest option, and parts of the bedrooms/bathrooms are described as a little dated, but the weaknesses are far less concerning than those found at several closer or more nightlife-heavy alternatives.

Why it suits this trip

  • About a one-mile practical walking route to the City Ground, so there is no need to depend on post-match taxis.
  • Around five minutes on foot from Nottingham Station, making arrival and departure unusually simple for a football trip.
  • Strong current provider feedback: Booking.com around 8.5/10 with more than 8,000 reviews at the time checked.
  • Recent Tripadvisor feedback commonly mentions clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff.
  • City-centre bars and nightlife are still reachable on foot, so staying closer to the ground does not mean giving up the evening.

Getting to the ground

Rome2Rio gives about one mile between the hotel and City Ground; Forest's own guidance puts Nottingham Station at roughly 20 minutes' walk from the stadium. Booking.com's City Ground search lists Leonardo at roughly 0.7 miles as a proximity measure. For supporter-facing use, treat it as an approximately 20-minute, very practical walk rather than promising an exact door-to-turnstile time.

Pubs and the evening

Booking.com describes central bars/nightlife as about a ten-minute walk from the hotel. Hockley/Lace Market is a stronger late-evening cluster than Station Street itself, but it remains comfortably reachable.

Arriving by train

The hotel is about a five-minute walk from Nottingham Station according to the hotel and Booking.com.

The trade-offs

  • Sampled rates sit above Nottingham's budget tier and midweek pricing was quite variable.
  • Several recent guests describe bathrooms or parts of the rooms as dated/tired.
  • Occasional door/corridor noise appears in reviews.
  • Parking is not the hotel's strongest feature; nearby/off-site parking can add a walk.

Research price context

In the six representative non-home-match checks, roughly £106–£166 midweek and £140–£150 at weekends; averages were about £136 midweek and £146 at weekends.

Roomzzz Nottingham City

Roomzzz Nottingham City

Talbot Street / Rock City, northern city centre

Roomzzz is the strongest current nightlife-led choice because it combines a genuinely central late-evening location with much better recent guest feedback than several obvious city-centre rivals. It sits beside Rock City and a few minutes from central bars, restaurants and entertainment, while Hockley/Lace Market remains walkable.

  • Excellent current reputation: Booking.com around 8.8–8.9/10 and Tripadvisor around 4.6/5 when checked.
  • Rock City is essentially next door and the property says popular bars, shops and restaurants are within about five minutes.
The match journey

Location listings put the City Ground at about 2.4 km from Roomzzz. A walk is realistic for fit supporters but is materially longer than Leonardo; the property's own information instead highlights an 11-minute taxi or 16-minute public-transport journey to Trent Bridge.

The trade-off

Longer walk to the City Ground than Leonardo; this is a nightlife-first choice rather than a stadium-first one.

WHY STAY HERE?

Roomzzz Nottingham City

Talbot Street / Rock City, northern city centre

Our view

Roomzzz is the strongest current nightlife-led choice because it combines a genuinely central late-evening location with much better recent guest feedback than several obvious city-centre rivals. It sits beside Rock City and a few minutes from central bars, restaurants and entertainment, while Hockley/Lace Market remains walkable. The studio/aparthotel format also gives supporters a kitchenette and more room than a basic city hotel. Its drawback is football geography: the City Ground is roughly 2.4 km away, so the return after the match is longer, and the same nightlife location that makes it attractive can produce late-night street/music noise.

Why it suits this trip

  • Excellent current reputation: Booking.com around 8.8–8.9/10 and Tripadvisor around 4.6/5 when checked.
  • Rock City is essentially next door and the property says popular bars, shops and restaurants are within about five minutes.
  • Recent September 2026 reviews repeatedly praise staff, cleanliness, comfort and central location.
  • Studios include kitchen facilities, useful for a one- or two-night football trip where eating out every meal is not essential.
  • Sampled non-match prices were materially lower than the four-star full-service city-centre options.

Getting to the ground

Location listings put the City Ground at about 2.4 km from Roomzzz. A walk is realistic for fit supporters but is materially longer than Leonardo; the property's own information instead highlights an 11-minute taxi or 16-minute public-transport journey to Trent Bridge. The 35-minute walking time is an approximate planning figure, not a guaranteed route time.

Pubs and the evening

Roomzzz is about one minute from Rock City and roughly five minutes from popular bars, shops and restaurants. Hockley and the Lace Market are further east but remain walkable within the city centre.

Arriving by train

Roomzzz states Nottingham Station is about a 16-minute walk away.

The trade-offs

  • Longer walk to the City Ground than Leonardo; this is a nightlife-first choice rather than a stadium-first one.
  • Noise from Rock City, revellers, bins or people returning late is a recurring risk in reviews.
  • A small number of recent/2026 reviews describe room wear or an uncomfortable bed, so room consistency is not perfect.
  • It is an aparthotel rather than a conventional full-service hotel and does not offer the same on-site restaurant/bar experience.

Research price context

In the six representative non-home-match checks, roughly £83–£101 midweek and £96–£120 at weekends; averages were about £92 midweek and £107 at weekends.

What to expect at Nottingham Forest

All the key information for Liverpool supporters heading to The City Ground — from the ground and atmosphere to food, access, parking and matchday practicalities.

YOUR AWAY DAY · The City Ground

The ground

Liverpool at Nottingham Forest

A compact riverside ground built in layers rather than as a single masterplanned bowl. Its stand names carry different Forest generations — Clough, Taylor and now Robertson — and the Trent End turns the river-facing geography into supporter terminology.

Recorded capacity
30,404

Views from the away section

Away views are generally impressive and unobstructed; front rows can be more exposed to rain.

Supporter observation

Recent visiting-supporter reviews describe the City Ground away view as strong and unobstructed, with the behind-goal position helping the away section feel properly part of the match.

Why the ground matters

The City Ground has stood beside the Trent since 1898. Its river setting appears in the crest, song and Trent End name, giving the ground a lasting place in Forest's everyday language. That attachment helps explain the close attention to redevelopment in 2026.

Brian Clough Stand

The former Executive/East Stand was opened in the late 1970s and now carries Clough's name.

Peter Taylor Stand

The Main Stand lineage dates through the 1968 fire and rebuilding; its current name keeps Taylor alongside Clough in the stadium map.

Trent End

The river-end stand was rebuilt in the 1990s after the Taylor Report and takes its identity directly from the water beside the ground.

John Robertson Stand

Formerly the Bridgford Stand; officially renamed and celebrated in May 2026 in honour of Robertson.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · The City Ground

Atmosphere & acoustics

Liverpool at Nottingham Forest

The Bridgford End roof/overhang helps amplify crowd noise.

From the supporters

Supporter observation

Current Hull supporter guidance rates the City Ground among the more atmospheric Championship away trips.

Mull of Kintyre / City Ground adaptation

Adopted during the 1977/78 title season and rewritten around the City Ground, travel and the Trent; now a major pre-kick-off singalong.

You'll Never Beat Des Walker

Player chant attached to Walker's pace and defensive reputation; it survives as one of the clearest individual chants from the late-Clough period.

Pre-match Mull of Kintyre

Supporters are encouraged to be in place early enough for the ground-wide song before major home fixtures.

Forza flags and displays

Large supporter-organised visuals, usually rooted in Forest history or a current football story, have become a recurrent feature of big City Ground and Wembley occasions.

Forza annual boat trip

A deliberately Trent-centred pre-match event organised by supporters rather than the club.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

YOUR AWAY DAY · The City Ground

Food & drink

Liverpool at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham is straightforward by train: the station is roughly 20 minutes from the City Ground, and away fans now have a proper meeting point on that route. The Nest beside Meadow Lane is the clearest choice because it operates as an away-ticket-only fanzone, with bars, big screens and rotating street food. Hooters is Forest’s other established visiting-fan suggestion; Canalhouse and Vat & Fiddle work for smaller groups staying nearer the station.

Food and drink around the ground

Near the ground, be selective: Trent Bridge Inn and the cricket-ground fanzone are home-only, while Stratford Haven has mixed-support evidence but no guaranteed colours policy. Food is stronger than the usual stadium fallback: Relish’s pork, stuffing, crackling and gravy cob is the local matchday ritual, with Cuzina close by and Hungry Pumpkin useful for city-centre breakfasts. For an overnight stay, the station, city centre and Lace Market are the practical areas.

Away seats are in the lower John Robertson Stand, still called Bridgford in some current guidance.

The Nest

The obvious away meeting point. It sits on the station-to-ground route, admits visiting ticket-holders only and combines bars, big screens and rotating street food before the short walk to the away end.

Accessibility

Liverpool at Nottingham Forest

Contact your visiting club before the fixture if you need accessible parking. Forest allocates six away spaces in the Brian Clough Stand car park, off Scarrington Road (NG2 5FA), at £10 each. These are arranged through the visiting club, not by arriving with a Blue Badge on the day. The club describes the spaces as level gravel beside the away section.

Accessible journeys

Wheelchair supporters use a separate accessible entrance in the lower Bridgford Stand before being escorted to their away positions. There are 11 away wheelchair bays, in blocks W2 and X2. It is still worth checking Passenger Assist if anyone in your party needs help beyond the station. Station to ground & away entrance

Head for the visiting section in the lower Bridgford Stand, on the far side of the ground from Trent Bridge. After crossing the river, continue along Radcliffe Road and follow the signs around towards Colwick Road and the away turnstiles. Do not turn into Pavilion Road expecting to reach the visitors' entrance. Your ticket is the final authority on which turnstile to use.

Visiting blocks can be split between entrances, and the separate away ticket-collection point is immediately behind the stand. Allow time for queues and searches: the club normally opens the turnstiles about 90 minutes before kick-off. If approaching from Lady Bay Bridge rather than Trent Bridge, Scarrington Road is the usual stadium-side approach, subject to matchday road controls.

Buses & local travel

For a bus from Nottingham station, use the Nottingham City Transport Green Line towards West Bridgford and Trent Bridge. Routes 5 and 6 serve Nottingham Station and the Victoria Embankment stop at Trent Bridge. From there, walk along Radcliffe Road and around to the away side of the stadium. The Green Line also includes other services through this corridor, although individual stops and diversions differ.

Check the return stop as well as the outward one, particularly for evening games: matchday traffic and roadworks can change normal stopping arrangements. If travelling by tram, travel to Nottingham Station or Meadows Embankment and complete the last stretch on foot. There is no need to invent a dedicated stadium tram or shuttle service.

Parking

Liverpool at Nottingham Forest

You do not have to pre-book parking for every Forest match, but you should travel with a proper paid car park in mind. Do not rely on free residential parking around West Bridgford. Forest warns about enforced residents' schemes, and the council's central on-street bays now carry daytime charges or short stays. For value, try Green Parking on Queen's Road (NG2 3AD). It charges £6 all day on matchdays, has 88 spaces and takes RingGo or payment at the machine.

Parking & park-and-ride

The operator estimates a 15-minute walk towards the stadium over Trent Bridge; allow a little longer to reach the visitors' entrance. Places are not guaranteed. We could not confirm a particular unrestricted street suitable for the whole match. Bridgford Road, Fox Road and Hound Road have designated long-stay paid bays, while roads including Florence Road and Priory Road have short-stay restrictions on relevant sections.

Reports of free parking at Victoria Embankment or on industrial streets do not establish matchday permission. If Queen's Road is full, Nottingham Station's 24-hour multi-storey on Queen's Road costs £5.50 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Nottingham Rugby's ground on Holme Road offers £10 Forest matchday parking, first come, first served. County Hall, Meadow Lane and Cattle Market are other named parking sites, but check their current opening and charges.

Aim to park at least 90 minutes before kick-off, earlier for a big game. Allow around four-and-a-half to five hours for parking, both walks, the match and the return to your car. Avoid ASDA and other customer-only retail spaces unless their operator explicitly allows football parking for that full period. Sunday and evening restrictions still need checking: neither automatically makes these streets free.

Booking recommendation
For peace of mind on a large fixture book a legitimately authorised independent space; verify its confirmation and access terms. Public pay-on-arrival sites cannot guarantee a bay.
Supermarket permission/time limit
ASDA West Bridgford exists on Loughborough Road but no permission or matchday stay allowance was verified; do not recommend football parking there

Driving & road restrictions

Set your sat-nav to the car park you actually intend to use, not just the stadium postcode NG2 5FJ. Forest suggests approaching Nottingham from M1 junction 24 via the A453 from the south, or junction 26 and the ring road from the north. The last roads around Trent Bridge and Lady Bay Bridge can become congested. Do not assume you can drive along Colwick Road, Pavilion Road or Scarrington Road close to kick-off.

Forest has used timed closures and restricted access around those roads, while Nottinghamshire has also imposed match-specific closures at Lady Bay Bridge. These are fixture-specific arrangements, so check the latest match guide and highway notices before setting off. Parking north of the river and walking across Trent Bridge avoids needing vehicle access beside the away entrance.

Matchday advice: You do not have to pre-book parking for every Forest match, but you should travel with a proper paid car park in mind. Do not rely on free residential parking around West Bridgford.

Trains

Rail, Underground & tram

Use Nottingham station for the City Ground. Forest puts the walk at roughly 20 minutes, and you do not need a taxi for an ordinary arrival. Leave towards Carrington Street, head down towards London Road, cross the River Trent at Trent Bridge and follow the matchday signs towards the visiting end.

Nottingham station has step-free access to all platforms, with lifts available. It is still worth checking Passenger Assist if anyone in your party needs help beyond the station.

If you are coming from a tram park-and-ride, Nottingham Station tram stop is a sensible place to get off. Meadows Embankment is another option, with a walk to the ground that Forest estimates at around 20 minutes. Neither tram stop brings you to the away turnstiles themselves.

Away coaches

If your visiting club runs an official supporters' coach, use its confirmed arrival and collection instructions rather than arranging your own drop-off beside the stadium. Forest gives coaches priority within its limited stadium parking arrangements, and the visiting turnstiles are at the lower Bridgford end.

Older visiting-club instructions describe coach access via Scarrington Road, off Lady Bay Bridge. That is not a verified universal drop-off or collection point for every fixture in 2026/27, particularly with temporary road closures. Check where your coach will be waiting after the game before you leave it, and allow time for police-managed departures.

Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Contact your visiting club before the fixture if you need accessible parking. Forest allocates six away spaces in the Brian Clough Stand car park, off Scarrington Road (NG2 5FA), at £10 each. These are arranged through the visiting club, not by arriving with a Blue Badge on the day. The club describes the spaces as level gravel beside the away section.

Wheelchair supporters use a separate accessible entrance in the lower Bridgford Stand before being escorted to their away positions. There are 11 away wheelchair bays, in blocks W2 and X2. Tell the club about any step-free or seating requirements before you travel; do not assume every standard away turnstile is suitable.

Nottingham railway station is step-free to all platforms. Forest's accessibility team can be reached at accessibility@nottinghamforest.co.uk or 0115 982 4388.

After the match

After the match

If you are going back to Nottingham station, head over Trent Bridge and follow the pedestrian flow north along London Road. Leave a generous margin for your train, especially after a late kick-off, because the roads and approaches beside the away end can be congested after full-time.

Driving away from car parks near Lady Bay Bridge can take longer than the outward journey. Forest has used post-match closures on Lady Bay Bridge and Colwick Road, and earlier supporters describe slow exits from some near-ground parking. A car park north of the river avoids some of that stadium-side road management, though no exit time is guaranteed.

If you are on an official coach, return to the collection point given by your operator rather than assuming the arrival drop-off is unchanged.

Where to stay

Stay near Nottingham station or the southern edge of the city centre for the easiest football weekend. You can walk to the City Ground over Trent Bridge, get back to your train without a cross-city transfer, and still have a decent choice of places to eat after the match.

For more of an evening out, look towards Hockley or the Lace Market. Those neighbourhoods have a stronger collection of independent restaurants and bars, but mean a longer walk to the stadium and station.

West Bridgford is the alternative if being close to the ground matters most. It has the stadium and Trent Bridge sporting quarter on its doorstep, but there is less reason to stay beside the turnstiles if you also want Nottingham city-centre nightlife.

Recommended stay area
Nottingham Station and southern city centre: walkable to stadium and rail
Evening alternative
Hockley/Lace Market: concentrated independent restaurants and bars
Ground-side alternative
West Bridgford: close to City Ground and Trent Bridge

Read full overview Hide full overview

Nottingham is straightforward by train: the station is roughly 20 minutes from the City Ground, and away fans now have a proper meeting point on that route. The Nest beside Meadow Lane is the clearest choice because it operates as an away-ticket-only fanzone, with bars, big screens and rotating street food. Hooters is Forest’s other established visiting-fan suggestion; Canalhouse and Vat & Fiddle work for smaller groups staying nearer the station.

BEST FORsmaller away groups · good beer · pub meal · supporters staying centrally
MATCHDAY INTELA better beer-and-food option than squeezing into the main away venues. Canalhouse sits near the station, serves food every day and is currently listed as well placed for travelling fans heading to the City Ground.
WORTH KNOWINGThere is no published football-colours guarantee. It is a normal city pub, so large groups should check ahead rather than assume matchday entry.

Vat and Fiddle

12 Queensbridge Road, Nottingham NG2 1NB
Away access: checkFamily friendly
BEST FORreal ale · train arrivals · smaller groups · Saturday lunch
MATCHDAY INTELA strong beer-led station option with long-standing away-day use. The Castle Rock brewery tap is only a short walk from the platforms and is far calmer than the stadium-side home pubs.
WORTH KNOWINGCurrent first-party information does not publish a football admission policy. Sunday has no food service, so do not rely on it for a Sunday lunch.

BEST FORfood near the ground · mixed groups · real ale · supporters already in West Bridgford
MATCHDAY INTELThe best near-ground pub lead that is not firmly home-only. It has a strong beer range and an unusually useful Baujis menu, with Bombay burritos, curries and small plates.
WORTH KNOWINGAway admission is based on supporter-guide evidence rather than a current operator football policy. In colours, check before making it your only plan.
